#twelvedaysofstitchmas days 10-12 I'm skipping the one on cheapest/most expensive - never used very expensive cloth. I've not dared. I'm not good enough to warrant trying Silk. Day 11 - crafting space - made things for hanging stuff ok of a pallet. I'll put some decoration above it next year. At the centre is a Square and Compass logo, made with vintage tools. Above the sewing machine is the bit for hanging patterns in use, in this case, next year's project: Day 12 - next year - in the new year I'm going to try to make a corset for the first time. It's the #rillacorset pattern, 1910s style. To cut out the pattern I recycled paper I used to draw maps for some books for @helionbooks - see if you recognize the places!

Earlier this week, standing in a sewing room that looks like a bomb has gone off, I finished the boning channels for my @scrooppatterns 1910s Rilla corset. My total lack of hips and bum was on full display, though aided by my Scott three-piece hip pads. The next piece for the 1915 ensemble was a corset. I used the #rillacorset pattern from @scrooppatterns and it was an adventure, especially as this is my first under-bust corset! Not really difficult to sew at all, but I made so many little “mom brain” mistakes 🤪 In the end, though, it turned out beautiful and functional! It’s made from cotton coutil with German plastic boning. I used a vintage lace from my stash for the top, and I’m absolutely in love with the little ribbon garter clips! #historicalcostuming #historicalsewing

Enjoy some corset inspiration from the Prague Museum of Decorative Arts @upm_prague This corset is nearly identical in cut to the Rilla Corset, but is constructed with the boning channels sewn on the outside of the corset, rather than the inside. It would be an easy alteration to make to the pattern if you wanted to recreate this exact corset. @scrooppatterns #rillacorset this year I am pushing my skills. I tried tailoring with my winter coat and now I broke into corsetry. The Rilla Corset was very good for my first corset ever. It wasn't intimidating but also let me practice. I cut out a mockup and did several fittings before cutting this out. I cut the largest size (52), but I needed 10" for my hip measurement. I added that to the mockup and ended up shaving a lot of that off since I'm very squishy. As you can see I probably could have removed more but then sitting down would not be as comfortable because of body spread. The panels turned slanted because in my fittings, I was lazy and took out of seams equally instead of panel by panel. This is a single layer corset made of cotton coutil with bias tape boning channels. I used plastic boning and a grommet pliers. I wish I had gathered the lace or even left it out. I refuse to unpick the binding again though. I may cut some of the bottom length off at some point. I am so happy with that straight lacing gap and the results. This corset does not compress me or make my measurements smaller. It just kind of smooths things out. My ultimate goal is to make corsetry for myself under really fancy and coutureish gowns that I have plans for. Working on a new corset - blue moire and white lace - how dreamy! The last corset I made was my wedding corset 2 years ago (swipe to see it). I wanted to make it blue, but that would have shown slightly through my wedding dress, so I used some of my cream colored dress silk for the corset instead (and made do with a blue silk petticoat, worn under a white petticoat so it wouldn’t show through!) So it’s fun now to be making a pretty blue corset! Your girl here might have a 41" bust measurement, but she has no backside whatsoever! I had to reduce the hip/bum fit on my Titanic Era corset by so much I had to draw in new notches because the original ones were cut off! Normally the answer to this proportions conundrum would be a small bustle pad, but my wheelchair stops this being an option. Ive been enjoying others' year end wrap ups so i thought id do my own. This was not really a year of making for me, but a year of BEING. In this post are things that i didn't post to the grid -- the first outing of my @pipandpin Aurora headband, a finished long-term WIP, a detour into bag making, the best dog in the world (lost to this world one day after my beloved grandma passed), GO OILERS GO!!!!, refit my @chalkandnotch #shaydress, new #rillacorset via @scrooppatterns, a wonderful concert after 20 years (!!) With @evanescenceofficial and my sisters, and another detour into stuffed toys (this one is a cat). A few other things happened too, and primarily i have been enjoying my time at home and protecting my energy. . In the coming year I want to keep doing the things that I love, but also say YES to more things. I want to go to more concerts, see more shows, read more books, visit friends and family near and far, keep reconnecting with the me who made themself smaller to fit into the world.
