Ettie Petticoat/Skirt
The Ettie Petticoat is a versatile four-gored petticoat or skirt with finishing details that create the correct silhouette for fashions from 1890-1920, but also looks fantastic as a modern skirt. It features four views with different silhouettes and details: View A (1890-1910), View B (1909-1914), View C (1915-1917), and View D (1915-1920). Recommended fabrics include lightweight cottons, silks, thin wools, linens and rayons.

The snow is too slushy to take my new blue wool ensemble outside, so here’s another sunny beach pic instead. Late Victorian cape and walking skirt, both sewn by me. Cape pattern is TV590 Skirt is Scroop Fantail Skirt, which I altered to add pockets on the side back seams. Wearing the skirt over the Scroop Ettie Petticoat (View A). Not too bad for baby’s first insertion lace! 😍 I’m taking the time to remake/ finish my first attempt at the #ettiepetticoat by @scrooppatterns and I’m loving it so far!

New video of me making some 1910s underthings featuring vintage lace and ribbons 🎀. I had the itch to stitch as soon as I saw the new #EttiePetticoat by @scrooppatterns. Mine is view B, early 1910s-style. I’m hoping to get around to making an 1914 dress to go with it soon. My corset is also by Scroop. Combinations are a #WearingHistory pattern. Scrolla ner för svenska. ~•~*~•~ ~•~*~•~ ~•~*~•~ ~•~*~•~ I’m back to sewing historical clothing, diving into the 1910’s for a ball this fall. And as we all know a new period starta with new underwear. This is Scroop patterns Ettie Petticoat in view B (1909 -1914) and Wearing historys 1910’s brassiere. I’ve modified the later, taking out a lot of seam allowance as I’m a bust 35” and the pattern is single size for a bust 38”. The garments are made from vintage cotton bedsheets that was in my stash and a lot of different lace (also stash). I feel that sheets are a bit to stiff for the petticoat, but I hope it will work. 📒Ettie Petticoat by @scrooppatterns and 1910’s edwardian brassiere by @wearinghistory The chemise is also wearing history (1917 combination underwear, made two years ago), the corset is true vintage. #ettiepetticoat #wearinghistorypatterns #scrooppatterns #annatextilecraft #stashdown #stashdown2024 #makingfromthestash #1910sundergarments #1910sunderwear

#historicalsundayundies means a sneak peek at my new #ettiepetticoat - another fantastic pattern from @scrooppatterns I had so much fun with this one, I love so many details, and was able to combine features from the different views to make exactly what I wanted. I’ll feature those later in a blog post. @virgilsfinegoods provides paper copies of #scrooppatterns , which I greatly prefer when making larger items like skirts, gowns, and petticoats (#sewhonestsunday - I get bored of taping so much paper together 😆) … #edwardian #historicalfashion #petticoat #lace #tucksandruffles

I needed to get measurements before I can start on the corset cover, so I took a few photos to share. This is the #trulyvictorianE02 chemise with the #trulyvictorianE01 corset, which has bust, hip, and bum pad under it. Over all that is the @scrooppatterns #ettiepetticoat view A

Finally, finally my @scrooppatterns #ettiepetticoat #ettiepetti is complete! 7 yards of cotton, 12 yards of insertion lace! 10 hours of being driven crazy by the ruffles, which still aren’t even (which is my fault, not the pattern.) But I’m really pleased with the results— the pattern was easy to read and still came out fluffy even with my use of a plain quilting cotton instead of cotton lawn. Randall also joined in for photos, of course. #sewing #imademyclothes #imadeitmyself #costume #victorianfashion #plussizesewing #plussizesewist

Johanna of @bandykullan was one of the first testers to finish her Seatoun skirt. The classic black and white combination she picked is so chic - and works so well with her polka dotted Selina blouse. She also provided prompt and extremely clear feedback, much of which made it into the pattern, and the rest of which will reveal itself in tutorials here and on the blog. Johanna made her Seatoun in Size 42, View B. Her skirt is made from a cotton herringbone twill. Her whole outfit is by Scroop - she’s wearing it over a Rilla Corset and an Ettie Petticoat! I love her hat: a great refashion of a hat with the right Edwardian shape from a high-street shop. So clever. Her overall thoughts on the pattern are very simple! “Loved it” ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Both the Seatoun & Tara are 15% off this week! 🌹 Treat yourself to the digital pattern at ScroopPatterns.com, or pre-order the paper pattern at VirgilsFineGoods.com 🌹 #scrooppatterns #scrooptara #scroopseatoun #historybounding #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardianhistorybounding #historicalsewingpatterns #1910ssewingpatterns #selinablouse #rillacorset #ettiepetticoat #vintageinspiredsewing #bestpatterntestersever

I haven’t participated in #fallforcostume because I’m a stressed out little baby at the moment, but I finally found some spoons to fuel my #ettiepetti project! So day 14: Underpinnings is very on point! I spent the whole day hemming and adding lace to the dust-ruffles - I can’t wait to wear this floofy thing ☺️ #ettiepetticoat #scrooppatterns #underpinnings #petticoat

I am still hand sewing the backs of my insert lace for the @scrooppatterns #ettiepetticoat Next time I’ll have a better sense of how long that takes! In the meanwhile, here’s a picture of Randall helping (thx for the photo @atigerwithagun )

On a roll! I have a (self imposed) Wednesday deadline for my #persiscorset , and a Saturday deadline for an #ettiepetticoat . Of all the pattern brands I’ve used, @scrooppatterns has a very special place in my heart. 🧵

A look at the lace insertion on my #1908wrapper⠀ ⠀ The extant pattern I used is VERY brief. Almost no sewing instructions, and very few pattern markings. ⠀ ⠀ I'd meant this to be a very simple make, but the orchid purple was rather bold and overwhelming. The pattern illustration showed lace running across the bodice, and I thought it would help to cut the colour, and balance the embroidery on the skirt. ⠀ ⠀ There was nothing marked on the pattern pieces, but I was able to figure out an approximate placement line for my lace which matched the pattern illustrations. ⠀ ⠀ I've used two different types of lace on the bodice in order to add texture and interest: narrow crocheted lace, and a wider embroidered net. To insert the lace I used two of the insertion techniques covered in the @scrooppatterns #ettiepetticoat pattern. ⠀ ⠀ The sleeves are trimmed with the narrow lace and a wide vandyked lace edging. The lace hem on the sleeves also uses a technique from the Ettie pattern.⠀ ⠀ I love the way the lace insertion gives a glimpse of my skin and underthings, while still being quite demure. The blue bow is the bow of my combinations. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #edwardianfashion #edwardiancostuming #costumehistory #laceinsertion #sewinglace #thedreamstress

It may not look like much now, but it’s on its way to being the ruffliest petticoat ever! The @scrooppatterns #ettiepetti #ettiepetticoat is just finishing up— a bit more hand sewing on the insert lace left to go, then I can show it to you in all its glory!

My Seatoun skirt worn with my Selina blouse. Underneath are an Ettie petticoat and Rilla corset. I love this skirt and the 1910s silhouette, I wonder if I can twist @scrooppatterns arm for a jacket pattern…. #rillacorset #seatounskirt #selinablouse #ettiepetticoat

One more piece of my Edwardian outfit checked off the list! ☑️ I was fortunate enough to be chosen to test the recently released Ettie Petticoat pattern by @scrooppatterns It comes with four views covering 1890 to 1920 and this is View A suitable for 1890-1910 🧵I gotta be honest this took what 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 like forever to make. Not because it was difficult but because I’m impatient and it turns out doing lace insertion (partially) on a treadle sewing machine is kind of tedious so I kept taking breaks and dragging this make out. lol I’m so in love with the end result though! Next I’ll be making View D to wear with my #kilbirnieskirt 🧵 All of my fabric and notions are from @joann_stores #scrooppatterns #ettiepetti #petticoat #ettiepetticoat

✨hot girl summer✨ is over… it’s time for 🕯️victorian ghost autumn 🕯️ The undergarments for my Halloween costume are finally complete! I constructed the corset cover completely by hand (except the buttonholes bc no one has time for that). It was nice to take a break from my machine for a bit. I thought the petticoat was going to take wayyy longer than it did to make which is good bc I still have so much to do 😅 Patterns: Corset cover - @wearinghistory Petticoat - #EttiePetticoat from @scrooppatterns Image Descriptions: Photo 1: Emma, a white thin young person with curly short light brown hair, stands in front of a bookshelf lit with candles wearing a white Edwardian corset cover and petticoat. They are holding a candle in their right hand. Photo 2: same person, place, and outfit as the first photo but this time it’s a close up on Emma’s face/torso.
