Persis Corset 1907-1911
The Persis Corset is a late Edwardian corset featuring dramatic swooping front panels and a curvaceous silhouette. It comes in two views: View A with a scooped front neckline and View B with a sweetheart neckline. The pattern includes three bust sizes and two waist-to-hip ratio options, making it adaptable for different body shapes. Recommended for midweight, tightly woven, stable natural-fiber fabrics like coutil, satin or brocaded coutil, and ticking.

Persis corset mock-up in progress. I’ve had the materials for this corset for over a year now. It’s been hard to find time sew lately between my mom being sick, running a business and an unplanned move but here we are on the other side-ish. I’m making size 42 with the slender hip panel option. Try on photos are coming soon! #scrooppatterns #persiscorset #edwardiancorset #historicalsewing

FINALLY got my @scrooppatterns #persiscorset to the point of try on! It was a ridiculous saga of running out of grommets, an emergency order from @farthingales that arrived no more than an hour before my sewing circle today, (a day before expected so no compalaining here!) and then heading off to sewing circle having forgotten several small but key items that hampered my progress working on it! But, it’s on, I’m so excited, and I don’t regret skipping my toile, so all is well in this even if the rest of the world is going to hell. Fit wise, the hips are perfect (followed pattern advice for grading between sizes), the lacing gap is perfect, I might just remove a smidge from the bust (yay bust gores) and maybe shave down the height a little bit. And smooth out the bottom edge where I obviously made some kind of cutting error. Thank you Leimomi for a great pattern with great instructions! #tanitisissews

Today’s tester showcase is Ivy @the_sewlo_artist and her utterly gorgeous pink Persis Corset Ivy made a View A in size 30 with the Large Bust cups and Average Hip flare. I love how striking her corset is (especially against that fabulous wallpaper!). Her corset is coutil flat lined over silk, and she did an incredible job of working with the two layers of fabric. Ivy’s fit is a great demonstration of the work that I put into making sure that the cup sizing works well across sizes. She says “I was concerned while making up the corset that the cup sizes wouldn't scale well for such a small band since a 28E is actually not that large in terms of simple volume. But I am very pleased that the corset fits perfectly! The cup size fits extremely well the the volume is exactly right.” “Incredibly impressed with the variability of the pattern and the flexibility in sizing. I'd love more patterns designed this way in future. Overall this was one of the easiest to construct corsets I've ever made, and I'm incredibly satisfied with the results in terms of fit and ease of construction.” #persiscorset #scrooppatterns #newsewingpattern #bestpatterntestersever #patterntesting #patternlaunchsale #corsetpattern #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardiancorset #edwardianfashion #edwardianstyle #historicalcorsetpattern #historicalcorset #1900scorset #1900scorsetpattern

Spotlight on View B of the Persis Corset! ⭐️🌸Just four days left to get 10% off the Persis Corset pattern!🌸⭐️ Fipe @fipefoai models a View B Persis made of cotton coutil in ‘drab’,* with bindings in cotton sateen. View B of the Persis has a sweetheart neckline that dips lower between the breast than View A and curves up to sit just above the nipple, a high back neckline, and a bottom hem with a squared-off front hem point, less upward curve over the thighs, and a higher back hemline than View A. While we opted for a simple lace finish for this corset, View B would look spectacular with the fancy pointed lace finish shown in the View A sample! *’Drab’ is a light brown shade. It was one of the most popular corset colours in the late Edwardian era. While it’s a very pretty colour, it is, admittedly, not a very appealing name by modern standards! #persiscorset #scrooppatterns #newsewingpattern #patternlaunchsale #corsetpattern #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardiancorset #edwardianfashion #edwardianstyle #historicalcorsetpattern #historicalcorset #1900scorset #1900scorsetpattern

Some Sunday Silliness from the Persis Corset photoshoot. This is what happens when one model keeps an out-of-frame running commentary on the aesthetics and possible uses of the outfits in the antique magazine the model currently working is trying to pose with - and she just looses it! 🤣 I think the particular offender in this case was a hat that looked just a little tooooo much like a decorated toilet roll holder 😜 "The hat for when you might need to go when you go out" #scrooppatterns #persiscorset #sillysunday #corsetpattern #corsetmaking #edwardiancorset #edwardiancorsetpattern #edwardianpattern #1900scorsetpattern #1900ssewing

Dressed for Boomtown today as we took the twins to @wdm.ca. It’s a @scrooppatterns outfit, with my new #persiscorset under the #fantailskirt, and a 1970s-does-Edwardian RTW blouse. And my mom’s antique cameo brooch to finish the whole look off. It’s a look that fits in pretty well at the WDM, even though it’s a little earlier than peak boomtown (aka 1910). I love this kind of skirt (as you may have noticed 😂) but man I just don’t love a high buttoned blouse on myself.

My @scrooppatterns #persiscorset is stalled until the grommets I ordered last night arrive (and @farthingales already shipped my order so that’s pretty amazing), but I realized I could still start work on boning channels and getting those on wherever they don’t cross seams so I guess I’m not really stalled actually, I’m just easily brought to a standstill.

It’s far from perfect but it is FINISHED. Theres a lot of little things “wrong” with this corset but it’s functional! (Or serviceable as they’d say back in the day. lol) It’s a miracle this got finished at all with everything going on in my life/the world currently so yes the waist stays are slightly off in the front but sometimes finished is better than perfect. #persiscorset #scrooppatterns #edwardiancorset #historicalcostuming #historicalsewing #sewing

Husband left me alone without children for a couple of hours, so I’m taking costume pictures and regretting the sad state of my home backdrops right now. Finally finished hemming this pseudo-Viking-inspired smock in (maybe) linen, that has been kicking around since pre twins (apparently with 12 inches of seam felling and a threaded needle on the inside as well?!?). I like it equally well under my #persiscorset as in this @sallypointer -inspired Iron Age fantasy. Also @alien_wonder_child bought me a long brown wig. It’s a bit more romance fantasy than historical, but definitely sells a look in a way my short and spiky style doesn’t. #tanitisissews

Still so in love with the curves of the #persiscorset It was very tricky to grade the pattern accurately to maintain that deliciously swoopy panel on the front in elegant proportions for every size, but so worth it! #scrooppatterns #edwardiancorset #corsetpattern #corsetmaking #1900scorset

One of my favourite parts of pattern development is the product photoshoot. Dressing gorgeous models up in gorgeous outfits and then taking them to a gorgeous location to shoot photos? What’s not to love! (and, in case you can’t tell from the photos, the models are also delightful, hilarious people who are just plain awesome to hang around with, in addition to looking fantastic in clothes). One of my other favourite, but much, much harder, parts of pattern development is then choosing which of the resulting photos to show. There are almost always too many good ones! The Persis Corset photoshoot was particularly hard. I swear that Fipe @fipefoai and Te KuraHuia @bbeezxo couldn’t take a bad photo if they tried, and their ability to find the best light was unbelievable. 💛 Every time I was photographing one of them I’d turn around to discover that the other one had picked the most stunning light to hang out in while they waited. Plus, we were in a fabulous venue. The @katherinemansfieldhouse is full of fascinating nooks and crannies, and that aforementioned beautiful light. So here’s a few more photos from the shoot for you to enjoy, because they are too beautiful not to share! #persiscorset #scrooppatterns #newsewingpattern #patternlaunchsale #corsetpattern #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardiancorset #edwardianfashion #edwardianstyle #historicalcorsetpattern #historicalcorset #1900scorset #1900scorsetpattern

Let’s talk about the sizing for the Persis Corset. The Persis is available in sizes 30-52. That covers bust 30’’/76.5cm to 55’’/139.5cm, with three different cup options, and hips 32’’/81 to 56’’/142cm, with two different hip fits. Two hip sizes means it’s easier to get the fit perfect no matter what the difference between your waist and hip: quite straight, or very curvy. The bust cup sizing is fully graded, so it’s totally proportional to the size of the corset, and to amount of moveable flesh you have. Getting those fabulous curves in corsets is all about how easy it is to move squish around: it’s not about squeezing you in, it’s about rearranging! The cup sizes take this into account, and you can see how perfectly they fit on the models: no dent lines and muffin tops, and no gaping. The boning layouts are also customised for different size ranges, so that every size gets the appropriate amount of support and shaping from the boning. The first image is an illustration of how the boning layouts change in different size ranges Unfortunately I’m not currently able to expand the Scroop Pattern size range for complicated patterns like the Persis. Size Pack C is by far my worst selling size pack for every pattern. In fact, in most patterns I don’t even sell enough of Size Pack C to cover the cost of developing the sizes above Size 46 (the top size in Size Pack B). I use the sales of smaller sizes to subsidise the work and development that goes into sizes 48-52, because I think it’s important for historical sewing patterns to be as inclusive as possible. With no evidence for a significant amount of demand for the largest sizes I already produce, I literally can’t afford to add more sizes. I do include an extended range (up to size 56) in patterns like the Fantail Skirt, that are cheaper to grade. If you want to see additional sizes in patterns like the Persis the best way to encourage that is to buy Size Pack C, even if you have to grade it a little to make it fit you. #persiscorset #scrooppatterns #patternsizing #sewinclusive #corsetpattern #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardiancorset #historicalcorsetpattern #1900scorset

We got so many amazing photos from the #persiscorset photoshoot at @katherinemansfieldhouse that it was incredibly difficult to pick which ones to showcase in the product photos on Shopify. This stunning image with @fipefoai literally glowing against that blue wall is one that didn't make it, but it's too pretty not to show you. I love the way the curves of the furniture are picked up in her chemise and the lines of the Persis Corset. #scrooppatterns #corsetmaking #persiscorset #1900scorset #1900scorsetpattern #edwardiancorsetpattern #edwardiansewing #historicalcorsetpattern

Showcase on Rhia of @rhia_evildressmaker and her beautiful Persis Corset! Rhia’s corset is a great example of blending views and sizes. She combined the View B top and View A hem. Her fabric is a cotton coutil in one of the pale brown shades so popular in corsetry of this period, and she opted for very simple trimming, to keep the corset sleek under outer wear. For sizing, she blended between a 42 and 44, to accomodate a narrow ribcage, and used the Average pattern pieces for the back, and the Slender pattern pieces for the hip, as she has slim hips and a fuller bottom. She used the Small bust pieces. She’s really showing off the ‘hip subdued’ figure that corset ad I showed yesterday promised. You can really see the way this style evolved from the Edwardian straight front in her photos. She liked that “the instructions mentioned I can add more or remove boning if I feel the need, so I chose more in front for bust support and less at the back. “ Thank you Rhia for your detailed feedback. 💛💛💛 #persiscorset #scrooppatterns #newsewingpattern #bestpatterntestersever #patterntesting #patternlaunchsale #corsetpattern #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardiancorset #edwardianfashion #edwardianstyle #historicalcorsetpattern #historicalcorset #1900scorset #1900scorsetpattern
