Seatoun Skirt 1915-1918
The Seatoun Skirt is a classic A-line skirt based on original garments and patterns from 1915-1918. View A is cut on the fold with triangular bucket pockets on the front, while View B has center front and back seams with shield-shaped bucket pockets placed on the side seams. Both views have a boned internal waistband, smooth front, and gathers at the back waist, fastening at the left side seam with a placket and snap fasteners.

A little Sunday Silliness from the Seatoun Photoshoot, in which @taylorrose.terekia and @historyresponsibly take formal photos with #georgethemummifiedporcupinefish, read him a bedtime story, and show him some love. George, for the record, lives on a scotch chest in my bedroom, attractively arranged among my jewellery boxes, and comes out for photoshoots on the regular. Bescause having a mummified porcupine-fish in your bedroom is totally normal, right? #seatounskirt #edwardianhistorybounding #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardianfashion #scrooppatterns

So excited to share these photos of the new #seatounskirt from @scrooppatterns 🫶🏻 I’ve been a BIG fan of Scroop patterns for years so loved testing this new 1910’s skirt ❤️ I used a gorgeous wine taffeta that has been sitting in my collection for YEARS! I will definitely be making more of the pattern and couldn’t suggest the Seatoun skirt (1915-1918) or the modern alternative the Tara skirt and pinafore enough! I used this as an opportunity to FINALLY make a 1910s petticoat, blouse and corset cover too! Plus some historical socks and my go to Rilla corset (also a Scroop pattern!) will share more soon 🍂 My fave part of the skirt is the GORGEOUS triangle pockets 🪡 now I need to make view B too 😂🙈

When @scrooppatterns asked for pattern tester for a 1915-1918 skirt I jumped at the chansen and here is the result. This is my favorite fashion era for comfortable and elegant everyday wear, I just wish Ibhad more opportunities to wear it. Read more about the making in my blog, link in bio and the pattern, with some tweaks compared to the test makes is for sale as the #seatoun skirt at #scrooppatterns #seatounskirt #edwardianfashio

I am SO excited to share these photos of @scrooppatterns latest release, the Seatoun Skirt! I tested the pattern in a straight size 40, no mods beyond raising the pocket placement and using the skirt itself as a hem rather than the instructed bias facing (i shortened it 3" to suit my height, so it worked!), in an absolutely delicious dark olive green wool gabardine. I am wearing the full accountrement of mid-late teens layers - chemise, corset, petticoat and corset cover. The shirt is a #patinablouse by @fridaypatterncompany in black cotton poplin, and the boots are from @biotimefootwear . #seatounskirt #wwiclothing #1910sclothing #vintagefashionnotvintagevalues

I’d gotten too far into @scrooppatterns #seatounskirt without a mistake so I had to make an easily avoidable one. Managed to sew one of the pockets too high. Might finish the rest before fixing it, just so I can adjust based on my arm length lol

Day 27 of #fallforcostume24 hosted by @sew_through_time is #hats . Hats are such a fun way of completing an outfit, and they don't have to be too complicated. For the photos of my tester make of the #seatoun skirt by @scrooppatterns I of course wore my 1910s hat. It started out as a cheap summer hat from H&M that I wore regularly, a couple of years later I needed an Edwardian hat so I added a band a bow from poly duchesse satin and a plume from my stash, and all of a sudden I had a nice big hat for the 1910s. #fallforcostume #hat #edwardianfashion #1910s #1910sfashion #scroopppatterns #seatounskirt

Feeling the need to get this 1910s taffeta skirt out again and take more photos with it 📸 I’d LOVE to make the Seatoun Skirt in more fabrics 🪡 I have a skirt in mind for @espehickling using this pattern 👀 so many some day you’ll see a more modern version of this! For now my classic historical 1910s skirt will do 😍 #seatounskirt @scrooppatterns #1910sfashion #scrooppatterns #rillacorset #edwardianfashion #seamstress #historicalsewing #costumemaker

My Seatoun skirt worn with my Selina blouse. Underneath are an Ettie petticoat and Rilla corset. I love this skirt and the 1910s silhouette, I wonder if I can twist @scrooppatterns arm for a jacket pattern…. #rillacorset #seatounskirt #selinablouse #ettiepetticoat

It’s here!!! I was so grateful to help test the #SeatounSkirt by @scrooppatterns !!! It’s a super cute skirt that is based on skirts from 1910s! I went sort of 70s with my styling of it due to wanting to see if I could bring it into modern wear and because in Louisiana it’s like 80 million degrees out. So go grab the skirt now! It has a modern and a historical view! (And I put my pockets up really high. The pattern has them lower! ) #PatternTester #HistoricalSkirt #HistoricalSewing #1910s #ScroopPatterns #SelfishSewing #MeMadeSkirt #MeMadeWardrobe

I´m planning to remake this blouse, so more about it later, but skirt was pattern testing for Scroop Patterns and pattern is already in shop. So drop by and check its modern sister Tara Skirt too! #scrooppatterns #scroopseatoun

Unlike the Kilbirnie Skirt pattern, which is based on an extant garment, the Seatoun is based on period patterns, pattern drafting guides, and images from catalogues and fashion plates from the era. Here are some of the things that inspired it! The pattern includes 9 pages of additional historical information, with detailed descriptions of the pattern inspiration, the types of fabrics used on similar skirts in-period, the stitches used, and more, all accompanied by period images and detail photographs of extant garments that use the techniques described. Both the Seatoun & Tara are 15% off this week! 🦋 Get the digital pattern at ScroopPatterns.com, or pre-order the paper pattern at VirgilsFineGoods.com 🦋 #scrooppatterns #scrooptara #scroopseatoun #historybounding #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardianhistorybounding #vintageinspiredsewing #1910sfashion #1910sewingpatterns #1910sstyle

The Seatoun may be a historical pattern, but it can also be worn for modern wear - as beautifully demonstrated by Klara of @klara_posekana I’m immediately transported back to Czechia looking at her photos, and want to go strolling through the meadows and mushroom picking in the woods. Isn’t it the perfect outfit for looking elegantly outdoorsy? Klara made her Seatoun out of what was advertised as a firm midweight linen - and proved to be a floppy linen viscose when it arrived (oh my do I have feelings about fabrics sellers like that!). Because of that she used the pocket construction from the Tara pattern, as it worked better with her fabric - that’s the beauty of being able to mix and match between the patterns! Klara liked the boned interior waistband of the Seatoun so much she’s going to be using it on other garments: “I really like way the belt is made and I will make it on other skirts I already have in my ufo pile waiting for belt.” Klara made View A in Size 48’’. She’s 168cm tall. Thank you Klara for your amazing, amazing attention to detail as a tester! ♥️ Both the Seatoun & Tara are 15% off this week! 🍄 Get the digital pattern at ScroopPatterns.com, or pre-order the paper pattern at VirgilsFineGoods.com 🍄 #scrooppatterns #scrooptara #scroopseatoun #historybounding #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardianhistorybounding #vintageinspiredsewing #bestpatterntestersever

Spotlight on the Tara Skirt & Pinafore pattern! As I was developing the Seatoun pattern I realised how much I desperately wanted the amazing pockets on a modern skirt. I mean, who wouldn’t? Have you seen those pockets! Just getting the @lindsey__woolsey and @taylorrose.terekia to take their hands out of them in the shoot was a challenge! I was also going through the responses to the Scroop Pattern survey , and one of the top requests was historically-inspired skirts with elastic waistbands. Combine the two, and what do you get? The Tara! And of course I had to add a pinafore top, because everyone loves a pinafore! The pinafore top also has some historical inspiration: it’s based on an Edwardian apron I’ve examined! In testing options for the Tara it became obvious that the best fit required a completely different pattern to the Seatoun. Making a totally different pattern allowed the perfect fit, and it gave me the opportunity to add lots of fun extras to the Tara, like the option to cut it on the bias. The design link between the two is clear, but every single pattern piece, even the pockets, is different. The construction for the two patterns (including the pockets!) is also completely different, which is why the Seatoun and Tara are being sold as totally separate patterns, instead of having the historical + modern option of the Fantail Skirt. #scrooppatterns #scrooptara #scroopseatoun #historybounding #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardianhistorybounding #pinaforesewingpattern #pinaforepattern #vintageinspiredsewing

Does anyone else get a weird satisfaction from using up thread? It’s the funniest, most useless, feeling of ‘accomplishment’ These are all the spools I used up sewing samples of the #scroopseatoun skirt! What kept me occupied during October? Testing new pattern for Scroop Patterns - fabulous Seatoun Skirt. I love going out in long flowing skirts and this one is great for both countryside hike and working in the office. Funny triangular pockets are not deep enaught for carrying phone, but handkerchier or chocolate bar fitts well and that´s it. Looks like warm autumn is now over and I will need to wait to spring to wear it again. But maybe I´ll make another from thicker fabrick and will wear it whole winter because it is great. For those who are interested - pattern is already out, just check @scrooppatterns website. #scroopseatoun

#fallforcostume day 23: leaves. I was so excited to be a pattern tester for the new @scrooppatterns Seatoun Skirt!! It was an excellent excuse to go back to my comfort era of the 1910s. Scroop Patterns is my all-time favorite pattern company and this pattern is already a favorite. I’ll definitely be making another historical version and probably a modern version too! Johanna of @bandykullan was one of the first testers to finish her Seatoun skirt. The classic black and white combination she picked is so chic - and works so well with her polka dotted Selina blouse. She also provided prompt and extremely clear feedback, much of which made it into the pattern, and the rest of which will reveal itself in tutorials here and on the blog. Johanna made her Seatoun in Size 42, View B. Her skirt is made from a cotton herringbone twill. Her whole outfit is by Scroop - she’s wearing it over a Rilla Corset and an Ettie Petticoat! I love her hat: a great refashion of a hat with the right Edwardian shape from a high-street shop. So clever. Her overall thoughts on the pattern are very simple! “Loved it” ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Both the Seatoun & Tara are 15% off this week! 🌹 Treat yourself to the digital pattern at ScroopPatterns.com, or pre-order the paper pattern at VirgilsFineGoods.com 🌹 #scrooppatterns #scrooptara #scroopseatoun #historybounding #edwardiansewingpattern #edwardianhistorybounding #historicalsewingpatterns #1910ssewingpatterns #selinablouse #rillacorset #ettiepetticoat #vintageinspiredsewing #bestpatterntestersever
