Fi’s second attempt @theavidseamstress sun dress…….perfect for drinking beers in the sun @arboretumnotts beer festival! So good to be back in our home town of Nottingham! Love this pattern but first effort was too tight despite sizing seeming to match the size 12. Went up a size for this and needed the underarm adjustment so thoughtfully provided by Lisa. This gorgeous raspberry and grey poplin from @minervadotcom has been saved for something since last year - this was it! Sew……. The third version will be using the beautiful fabric from the #avidseamstressaesthetic subscription box now that hopefully all the errors have been made! Perfect for upcoming hols. Key to bodice success is meticulously marking the pieces with notches but also side seams. I can’t help but look at this fabric and see palm fronds against the sky. It’s got a definite echo of summer to it. This is an ecovero by Atelier Brunette and such a wonderful cloth to work with. Drapey but well behaved - two excellent qualities in my book!!! This would make such an elegant summer dress such as the #bhlhannah or if you want sleeveless then the Avid Seamstress #thesundress would be superb. Incidentally, I cut out my very first (😱) Anna dress yesterday utilising the remainder of this fabric. I didn’t have enough for a maxi version so I had to cut the knee length. I’ve also been working on my @theavidseamstress sun dress today & its very nearly finished😱 I just need to add some buttons to the front. I had to lop a whopping 8” off the bottom of the skirt as I’m such a shorty😂 I could have done with shortening the bodice a little bit too but otherwise I’m really pleased with it. so many fitting issues with the sun dress I made... altered a toile, tried on the real one before putting the zip in... seemed too small, so I picked up this decorative zip from @guthrieghani to create more space and now it’s very wide around my waist. I am happy with my button game, and with this wonderful japanese cotton from @clothhouse ... although I’m not sure if I can pull it off. 🍫 Yummy chocolate linen sun dress by @theavidseamstress Plenty of sewing happening so bear with while I catch up on the photos and posting malarkey! I toiled the bodice for this dress before cutting into the linen but made very few tweaks as it was a good fit, just moved the strap angles for better bra strap coverage and altered the dart length and angle. I sewed a full placket but as I get in and out through the zip at the centre back I won’t do full buttonholes next time. Love this design and my only wish would be that the dress had a lined bodice. Confession: I stuffed up the pleats by pinning them on the right side of the fabric so they go the wrong way. Didn’t notice my error til I’d attached the bodice and overlocked the waist seam *deepsigh* but it hasn’t stopped me wearing it every chance I get! It feels put together but so relaxing to wear.
