She also calculated the material costs and working hours spent to this project: Reading instructions, tracking the pattern, drawing and cutting the pattern pieces 3h, Ironing and cutting fabric 2h. Sewing the main construction of the coat 6h (includes a lot of ironing,) Sewing and attaching the interfacing 4h. My new Wimborne Coat! ✨ The new issue of @taukomagazine is out and the Wimborne is one of the patterns. This one I made, is sewn out of a teal, wool blend coating. Love this pattern! I was able to preview the patterns and immediately chose this one to sew. Cocoon space, oversized, collar neckline -all outerwear things I love. I opted to lined mine, but leaving it unlined is also a choice. Happy I lined this, as it adds a nice professional finish and another layer of wind blocking. Sews up quickly for a coat which is a nice bonus. A perfect weight for the weather we’re having here in Ohio right now. I’m already planning on sewing this again. Went straight back on my make list. A few months ago, @taukomagazine reached out to preview issue 5 (out today!) to test a pattern of my choosing. I really had a tough time picking just one, there are some bangers in there! With Fall and Winter around the corner I chose to test @theavidseamstress’ design, the Wimborne coat. You can choose to make the coat with lining or without, for a deliciously cozy cocoon of warmth. I made a size 4, with no modifications — it is an oversized fit, perfect for layering your knitwear or additional winter layers. The hem and arm length are perfect for me as written, but I am 5’9” so you may need to make adjustments to shorten or lengthen. I used a boiled wool-viscose blend from @moodfabrics in the shade golden olive, just a perfect ‘me’ color. Since I was using boiled wool, I chose not to line it and you don’t need to finish the seams as it won’t fray, so I made this in a few short hours. I love! And as @vivianshaochen said a few days ago — sewing with wool is very satisfying, I’ve been brainstorming a few other makes with wool fabrics. It’s cold! ❄️ 🥶 Well, Bay Area Cold. But now I’ve got my new #wimbornecoat to keep me warm! Leopard print boiled wool. 🐆 I bought this fabric last winter, majorly inspired by @burieddiamond and her leopard coat. 🐆 It sat as I tried to find the right pattern. And then I saw @ccmadethat and her fabulous wimborne and decided this was it! It was a journey to say the least to get this fairly simple sew where I wanted it. But now it’s there and I’m happy. And warm. . . . Coat: Wimborne Coat from @theavidseamstress for @taukomagazine . I initially made a size 5, but it was way too big for my preferences. I took the seams in considerably and probably wound up closer to a 4. I also shortened it 5”, as the mid calve length just looked like a bathrobe on me (I’m 5’7”). I hand stitched the facing and hem for a clean finish, and tacked the pocket bags down to the fronts to keep some pocket collapse at bay. I also added a hanging chain and a beautiful label from @suechinglascelles . I used my wood clapper to press all my seams and they are beautifully flat!
