Fern top from Pattern Scout. I stitched this December last year and finally got a chance to get pics clicked. It was a bit snug when I made it. I seem to have lost a few inches.. it fits me better now. Highly recommend this pattern if you want a top that fits and flatters. The construction is very straightforward and the sewing goes by quickly. I think I stitched this in half a day..but, I don't remember it exactly. December 2021 seems like ages ago. 😅 I'll lengthen the torso a bit when I make it again. The paneled bodice gives options to color block. I'll try that next time. Does it still count as a refashion if you only wore the original garment once?? I was gifted this lovely green and pink crepe fabric from @minervadotcom in return for a blog post and I decided it would be perfect for a tilly and the buttons indigo dress. Originally I didn’t love the look for this but I got totally swayed by the hype. I made it up and it comes together very nicely, it’s a lovely quick make and so well drafted. BUT it just does nothing for me! It’s far too short on the bodice to begin with (this is probably wear I should have made a mock up - but it’s a smock!! I didn’t think they could go so wrong), the skirt just seems too long and shapeless and the sleeves were quite restricting. So not a great success but I decided to give it a day and see how I felt. I had two zoom meetings that day and I just thought - “this fabric is perfect, so lovely and a great colour” so considered keeping the dress just to wear when working from home where no one would see more than the top 6inches of my bodice. Then I saw Joy @pinkcoatclub had remade a Stevie into a top and thought that was an even better idea! So here it is- the @patternscout fern top. This is a great pattern, I just love the peplum detail. It comes together very quickly because there’s no darts or set in sleeves. I made a size 10 and it’s a much better fit. It also comes in cup sizes!! Woohoo! I have a lilac rtw chunky cardigan and I think this will be my new Saturday wear with my @sewoveritlondon Mia jeans. Went out with friends last night and had nothing to wear due to weight gain, so I sewed up a quick #psferntop 😁 I had a bit of a challenge deciding on fabric because everything I picked out that was prewashed didn’t have enough yardage. Fortunately I had enough of this cotton sateen, which I used to make a sleeveless Granville shirt that no longer fits )see above reference to weight gain). Första sömnaden 2025 - Och till mig själv! Jag blev inspirerad av Joonmade som hade sytt en ljuvlig version av @patternscout Fern top i linne med handbroderier och vips hade jag beställt hem mönstret (som pdf). Plus ”expansion pack” för att få den fina fyrkantiga halsringningen. 🌺 Först sydde jag en toile i ett tunt gulmönstrat linnetyg och följde mönster och beskrivning exakt, (stl 16). Efter den gjorde jag en liten justering i ringningen, höjde den ca 2 cm och även smalnade av den i botten ca 2 cm. Svep ➡️ för att se bilder och även skiss på mönstret. 🌺 Nästa version valde jag att förlänga till en klänning med utanpåfickor som jag sett att andra här på Instagram gjort! Och jag valde att sy den av min härliga blocktryckta duk som jag köpte på en marknad i Milano i höstas 🤗 Så roligt att placera mönsterdelarna på de olika mönstrade partierna! Hello. 👋 Long time no post. For various reasons I haven't felt like adding any new pictures here for a while. But this dress was a lot of fun to make, and I did promise the lovely ladies at Skroten (where the fabric is from) that I would show them the result. So here it is! Done too late to wear this year (or would it work with dark tights and a sweater? Hmm...). The fabric is a cotton/linen blend from @skroten_tyg , one of their remnants from Spain. It's not my usual colours, but I just couldn't stop stroking it. I went back to it again and again and finally it had to come home with me. 😅 I knew from the start that I wanted to play with the direction of the stripes, so I picked a pattern that would let me do just that. This is the Fern top by @patternscout . I turned it into a dress by skipping the waist panels and adding the skirt (slightly straightened and with a hem facing) from the Hope dress by Style Arc. The patch pockets are based on the lines of the fabric and if my phone would fit into them. Oh, and I had quite a bit of fabric (about 2,70 m) so I patternmatched EVERYTHING, even the facings. It was a lot of fun! 😁 (I know some of you will think I'm crazy saying that, but I enjoyed it a lot.) I had a label from @kylieandthemachine that was a perfect fit, so of course it had to go on there. I forgot to post this recent make. Love this #psferntop and Burda 5969 pants together. I was going to sew a dress, but I just don’t wear them often and thought I would get more use out of a pant set I could mix and match with. I should have made a muslin for both because they were both too large on my smaller frame and I suit fitted clothes better. Ah well. I’m onto my 3rd set (still to post) and have them fitted up well now. The other adjustment I’m making is raising the square neckline on the Fern top, this turned out too loose and low for my comfort. The fabric is a lovely printed linen from Fabricland that is soft and drapes nicely. I redrew the front waistband as a low bib then added ties. The back elastic waistband was kept the same. Super comfy and love the way it looks with a variety of tops. Inspired by a few of you sewists (can’t remember who…) use fabrics for my #makenine2023 instead of patterns. So here are nine stash fabrics that I want to use this year. Tentative plans : 1. Brushed cotton dog fabric for a wintery #sewingmarnie 2. Striped stretch silk some kind of top..maybe just the back? 3. Cotton linen vintage floral possibly #bubblefrock or #psferntop dress although had originally planned a blazer have decided it’s too drapey. 4. Liberty cotton probably a shirt 5. Linen cotton cream green and red plaid possibly pants or a cropped blazer 6. Natural linen plaid planned for a #heatherblazer 7. Liberty silk. Had originally planned to use as poofy sleeves on merino top. May do that or saguaro set top? Open to ideas for this one. 8. Black and cream linen. Better post this one as it’s a new make from the weekend and an unposted make. The pinafore is a hacked #saturdayskirtset skirt @fridaypatterncompany in slate #organiclinen @wearethefabricstore . I redrew the front waistband as a low bib then added ties. The back elastic waistband was kept the same. Super comfy and love the way it looks with a variety of tops. Love this organic linen too, so nice to sew and wears and washes beautifully. The top is a hacked #psferntop @patternscout with extended puffy sleeves and shirring at the waist. Went out with friends last night and had nothing to wear due to weight gain, so I sewed up a quick #psferntop 😁 I had a bit of a challenge deciding on fabric because everything I picked out that was prewashed didn’t have enough yardage. Fortunately I had enough of this cotton sateen, which I used to make a sleeveless Granville shirt that no longer fits )see above reference to weight gain). #psferntop done 3 ways!🎉😁 I find this to be a super enjoyable pattern - both the project brainstorming and sewing are great. I bought it at the beginning of my sewing adventure after @emsewhappy endorsed it as a good ‘learn to sew’ garment. But I didn’t manage to cut and tape until just last month - so silly! Drafting and instructions are great, lots of options especially with the neckline expansion, and the blog explains some hacks you can’t resist. The hot weather made we want to use breezy fabrics. I did a toile to make sure my usual adjustments (extra shoulder height, longer torso, grading out at the hips) would work. Then I pulled out a just over 1m piece of lovely blue linen blend from @themakersplacehunterregion and made v1. I loved the square neck but wanted it 1cm higher. After that adjustment it was time for stripe play and a dress hack with this yarn-dyed cotton that was on sale for 5$/m. It is quite transparent so I used a nude voile to line the top midsection and skirt. Of course I added pockets and side ties. Also shown seated in the last pic. And finally I had another 1.2m piece of gauzy cotton that seemed perfect for this pattern. For that one I tried the original rounded neckline (not as fun) and the pleated peplum skirt. Hello. 👋 Long time no post. For various reasons I haven't felt like adding any new pictures here for a while. But this dress was a lot of fun to make, and I did promise the lovely ladies at Skroten (where the fabric is from) that I would show them the result. So here it is! Done too late to wear this year (or would it work with dark tights and a sweater? Hmm...). The fabric is a cotton/linen blend from @skroten_tyg , one of their remnants from Spain. It's not my usual colours, but I just couldn't stop stroking it. I went back to it again and again and finally it had to come home with me. 😅 I knew from the start that I wanted to play with the direction of the stripes, so I picked a pattern that would let me do just that. This is the Fern top by @patternscout . I turned it into a dress by skipping the waist panels and adding the skirt (slightly straightened and with a hem facing) from the Hope dress by Style Arc. The patch pockets are based on the lines of the fabric and if my phone would fit into them. Oh, and I had quite a bit of fabric (about 2,70 m) so I patternmatched EVERYTHING, even the facings. It was a lot of fun! 😁 (I know some of you will think I'm crazy saying that, but I enjoyed it a lot.) I had a label from @kylieandthemachine that was a perfect fit, so of course it had to go on there. Första sömnaden 2025 - Och till mig själv! Jag blev inspirerad av Joonmade som hade sytt en ljuvlig version av @patternscout Fern top i linne med handbroderier och vips hade jag beställt hem mönstret (som pdf). Plus ”expansion pack” för att få den fina fyrkantiga halsringningen. 🌺 Först sydde jag en toile i ett tunt gulmönstrat linnetyg och följde mönster och beskrivning exakt, (stl 16). Efter den gjorde jag en liten justering i ringningen, höjde den ca 2 cm och även smalnade av den i botten ca 2 cm. Svep ➡️ för att se bilder och även skiss på mönstret. 🌺 Nästa version valde jag att förlänga till en klänning med utanpåfickor som jag sett att andra här på Instagram gjort! Och jag valde att sy den av min härliga blocktryckta duk som jag köpte på en marknad i Milano i höstas 🤗 Så roligt att placera mönsterdelarna på de olika mönstrade partierna! Och så bestämde jag mig för att helfodra framstyckets mittenparti i samma tyg, är inte så förtjust i infodringar. 🌺 Och den blev så bra! Jag är supernöjd! Inspired by a few of you sewists (can’t remember who…) use fabrics for my #makenine2023 instead of patterns. So here are nine stash fabrics that I want to use this year. Tentative plans : 1. Brushed cotton dog fabric for a wintery #sewingmarnie 2. Striped stretch silk some kind of top..maybe just the back? 3. Cotton linen vintage floral possibly #bubblefrock or #psferntop dress although had originally planned a blazer have decided it’s too drapey. 4. Liberty cotton probably a shirt 5. Linen cotton cream green and red plaid possibly pants or a cropped blazer 6. Natural linen plaid planned for a #heatherblazer 7. Liberty silk. Had originally planned to use as poofy sleeves on merino top. May do that or saguaro set top? Open to ideas for this one. 8. Black and cream linen. Originally planned #helenawrapdress but undecided if this will suit me and be wearable after making the toile. Maybe just a long tiered skirt? 9. Sharing with you the Pattern Scout - Fern Top (hacked to a dress w/pockets added) version A with square neck, cuffed sleeve & pleats. Size 14 D cup - quick and easy sew! French seamed everything including the pockets (which didn't work out as well as I had hoped-I think I missed something) it's a bit too cold to wear in the Northeast now- but it will be cute for spring! Sharing a toile on Patternscout Fern Top in size 10. I could pinched about 1.5 inch at both sides of the waist. And decided to add a pleat at that location. I would like to grade to size 6 at waist next. I did the rounded back and shoulder check but hugging myself. It seems like the loose good fitting at size 10 is comfy for an everyday wear. What do you think? Fabric is DG from BAH. I couldn’t agree more, @sewing.to.outrun.my.stash , that DG is so so so comfortable to wear! I did my neckline facing without interface to try. It works well. But I’m not sure if the neckline will stay nice with frequent washes. Pattern is #psferntop.

I used the Fern top pattern from Patternscout with the square neckline option, which I modified by making the neckline round, by making it a big longer, and by adding a waist band sewn on the front and that ties in the back to show my waist. I made it with double gauze cotton fabric I purchased a while ago from The Fabric Snob. Fern top from Pattern Scout. I stitched this December last year and finally got a chance to get pics clicked. It was a bit snug when I made it. I seem to have lost a few inches.. it fits me better now. Highly recommend this pattern if you want a top that fits and flatters. The construction is very straightforward and the sewing goes by quickly. I think I stitched this in half a day..but, I don't remember it exactly. December 2021 seems like ages ago. 😅 I'll lengthen the torso a bit when I make it again. The paneled bodice gives options to color block. I'll try that next time. Want to see a mid-Summer update on my #makenine2021 plans? I like to sketch my planned projects and then paint the sketches when each project is completed. As you can see, I’ve finished 4/9 so far! I’m not terribly behind yet, but I need to get sewing!! To be very honest, I don’t know if all of these plans will get completed this year. When I made the list, my wedding plans looked quite different and didn’t involve any additional sewing on my part. Now, I’ve taken on at least one big wedding sewing project (and maybe two if I don’t fit in my wedding dress again by November…). But I think that’s the beauty of sketching out sewing plans in this way. These are good ideas, and I still want to pursue all of them. I have owned several RTW clothing items with Soutache detailing (sewing down a braid or cord for decoration on a garment) but have never tried it. Many years ago I made this trim with different colored metallic twine braiding. The braids have been sitting in a drawer for at least 5-6 years. This is the @patternscout #psferntop done in a lightweight cotton lawn. I mounted the front bodice and front skirt on pieces of linen to give the braid stability.
