I definitely forgot to get pics of this little cardigan jacket when I made it this summer. But this is actually the first time wearing it. I’ve really been struggling to figure out my style for layering/jackets the past year. I want to move on from the dated long cardigan. I basically got rid of all my jackets/cardigans and am rebuilding this part of my wardrobe with pieces that feel more trendy. This was just for a casual day doing errands. One more crossed off #makenine2022 Pattern: @patternscout Lulu cardigan Fabric: @seeyouatsixfabric French terry from @ansje.stoffen.naailessen This has been on my list for a couple of years now. In the winter I was inspired by some french Terry from See You at Six and the project became a bit more tangible. According to their size chart I was between 18 and 20. This feel too big for me and next time I will size down one or maybe two sizes. I also cut 4 cm off the sleeves. Next time I will measure the sleeves on the pattern and compare to the sleeves of this version. Also in terms of fit, I wish the entire thing would be 4 cm shorter. What I was looking for was a cropped cardi and this is a bit too long for me to qualify as such. I don’t toile but I make mock ups in the real fabric by basting the pieces together. However I wasn’t really feeling this project when I started so skipped this step, figuring with the stretch of the fabric, I will fit either way. I was not expecting it too big. In terms of construction this came together like a charm. The instructions very pretty basic. I still can’t do this type of collar properly and telling “sew the collar” isn’t helping. Also I do wish they would have included binding the zipper and collar seam. Its not a lot of work but does so much for your finished garment. In terms of fabric I used about half a meter of ribbing, a meter of French Terry. Do keep in mind I cut single layer and make my own fabric layouts to minimise scraps. Now I finished this yesterday and immediately wore it to an appointment and to school pick. I had a bit of a rummage in the wardrobe and came out with this combination. I think it is inspired, especially finding the shirt! This checked shirt was bought in the nineties and is a lovely quality, but I really don't know why I picked something so yellow as it really isn't a colour I wear much. So, this item has been at the back of the wardrobe for years and only gets occasional outings. But I love this combination, perhaps I just needed a red pair of trousers to pair it with! More Lulu love…😏 I actually made this in Feb, but after an emotional whirlwind of a month in Montreal that saw the (peaceful and loving) passing of my father-in-law, I’m only just now starting to feel my feet on the ground, and was finally able to get the snaps installed. This is yet another #pslulucardigan . While working on my #refebulous sweatshirt version, I had pulled out some scraps and realized I had enough leftovers from my Nettie Dress for this short-sleeve one. I gave the sleeves the puff treatment for some cute spring vibes and the dusty rose ribbing is from the stash. Hi. I haven’t been sewing much. I have so much denim, but these are eBay-ed @americaneagle artist jeans with short inseam that fit better than any jeans I’ve made myself…and I did not have to make them… and my #pslulucardigan hack hoodie (from @swafing fleece + rib prob from @jumpingjunetextiles Sub questions: how many days per week do you wear jeans, how many pairs do you own, and do you get a better fit from RTW or self-sewn? Bye!

Finally finished this #pslulucardigan and it fits perfectly. Great pattern from @patternscout, her patterns have different cupsize options which is such a help with fitting. I did have enormous trouble getting the zipper in correctly (nothing to do with Casey's instructions which are superb!), but I persevered. Seriously, I was ready to scrap the whole project at one point but I'm really glad I didn't! I had planned other makes for this month's #magamsewalong #fitfebruary but couldn't find the motivation. Kind of lost my sewjo this week, I often do when (world) news turns so sad. Another war, the list keeps growing. But trying to help in my own small way, I volunteer every Monday at a non-profit that helps people new in the Netherlands with practising speaking Dutch. Let's try to make this a better world together. Week 4: ‘Show yourself wearing it!’ Here she is, refabbed & #REFEBULOUS ! I know — taking a couple of sweatshirts and turning them into…another sweatshirt…may not be super transformative. But turning a couple of sweatshirts that were stained and/or made me feel like I had given up on life into one that I now LOVE wearing and makes me feel a bit more badass…that’s worth it! 🙌 Again, this is the #pslulucardigan ( @patternscout — bust up to 58”/137cm with cup sizes). I harvested a lot of usable elements from the original garments, including a zipper that had this great bound edge hidden inside the facing, and some cool woven taping around the neck edge. I shortened the zipper and made it exposed to show it off, which meant changing up the construction order. I didn’t have quite enough of the taping to go all the way around the inside neck, and I almost didn’t use it because of this, but it’s enough that it goes from the front edge to the back shoulder seam. Cutting around stains at the cuff meant my sleeves were a bit short — not a big deal, as I mostly push them up anyway, but I did add a bit of darker grey ribbing from my stash (I had to scrounge for it, the piece was so small) to the original ribbing to make the cuffs a bit longer. The last bits of the stash stuff was cut and pieced into a strip to sew along the inside hood facing. The shoulder detail was some spur-of-the-moment freewheeling as I was cutting it out, and I really dig it! I’m making decent progress on my repair/refashion pile, but this is my ‘official’ entry for the #refebulouschallenge , and since Week 3 is a post of oneself working on said project, here I be. I’m terrible at taking #wip shots, as I’m in a bit of a bubble when I’m working things out, and I like it that way. Sewing gets me away from a screen and away from my phone (except for listening to podcasts/music) so I don’t often think to snap process pics. But every once in awhile… 😏 This is going to be a #pslulucardigan (@patternscout ) with a hood, and I’m using leftover pieces from a black hoodie I got in a swag bag from being a presenter at an awards show (I used the back for another project), and a grey, schlubby zip-up hoodie that had stains on the front. #MeMadeMay2021 Day 9 and I’m excited to show off my newest make 🤍 I finally finished my second #PSLuluCardigan and I love it! Shout out to Casey from @patternscout for including different cup sizes 🙌🤍 This is also the first fabric I bought when I got into sewing over two years ago. I planned to make a #SewingCoco out of it but seriously underestimated the complexity of sewing with stripy knit fabric at the time 🥲 Since I never finished the Coco (and didn’t see myself wanting one now), I recycled those cut out pieces for this make hence the shorter sleeves. #PatternMatching didn’t work out as well as I would’ve wanted but I’m content with how it is. Also I do wish they would have included binding the zipper and collar seam. Its not a lot of work but does so much for your finished garment. In terms of fabric I used about half a meter of ribbing, a meter of French Terry. Do keep in mind I cut single layer and make my own fabric layouts to minimise scraps. Now I finished this yesterday and immediately wore it to an appointment and to school pick. Ella's in the house!! Casey Sibley @patternscout patterns has just released her newest pattern, The Ella Dress. I was so happy to be able to test this pattern for Casey- her patterns have a timeless, minimalist look that fit so easily into my "curated" (my goal word for this year!) closet. The pattern was such a pleasure to make up; my favorite part was the construction of the bodice which helps to create a wonderful fit around the neckline and arms and is as pretty on the inside as it is to look at! My measurements: B36/W30/H37 & height 5'3''. I chose Size 10 and graded to an 8 at the hips and shortened the pattern by 2" which gave me the perfect midi length that I was looking for. The fabric that I used was a viscose jersey from #beyondthepinkdoor which gave the dress a bit of the flowy swish that I love in summer dressing. I've added some styling pix - I have that "rule of 3" (has to fit in my closet to make three other looks) and Ella checked all the boxes for that, including becoming a skirt when paired w/my Slope cropped knit tank! More Lulu love…😏 I actually made this in Feb, but after an emotional whirlwind of a month in Montreal that saw the (peaceful and loving) passing of my father-in-law, I’m only just now starting to feel my feet on the ground, and was finally able to get the snaps installed. While working on my #refebulous sweatshirt version, I had pulled out some scraps and realized I had enough leftovers from my Nettie Dress for this short-sleeve one. Week 4: ‘Show yourself wearing it!’ Here she is, refabbed & #REFEBULOUS ! I know — taking a couple of sweatshirts and turning them into…another sweatshirt…may not be super transformative. But turning a couple of sweatshirts that were stained and/or made me feel like I had given up on life into one that I now LOVE wearing and makes me feel a bit more badass…that’s worth it! 🙌 Again, this is the #pslulucardigan ( @patternscout — bust up to 58”/137cm with cup sizes). I harvested a lot of usable elements from the original garments, including a zipper that had this great bound edge hidden inside the facing, and some cool woven taping around the neck edge. I shortened the zipper and made it exposed to show it off, which meant changing up the construction order. I didn’t have quite enough of the taping to go all the way around the inside neck, and I almost didn’t use it because of this, but it’s enough that it goes from the front edge to the back shoulder seam. Cutting around stains at the cuff meant my sleeves were a bit short — not a big deal, as I mostly push them up anyway, but I did add a bit of darker grey ribbing from my stash (I had to scrounge for it, the piece was so small) to the original ribbing to make the cuffs a bit longer. The last bits of the stash stuff was cut and pieced into a strip to sew along the inside hood facing. The shoulder detail was some spur-of-the-moment freewheeling as I was cutting it out, and I really dig it! I’m making decent progress on my repair/refashion pile, but this is my ‘official’ entry for the #refebulouschallenge , and since Week 3 is a post of oneself working on said project, here I be. I’m terrible at taking #wip shots, as I’m in a bit of a bubble when I’m working things out, and I like it that way. Sewing gets me away from a screen and away from my phone (except for listening to podcasts/music) so I don’t often think to snap process pics. But every once in awhile… 😏 This is going to be a #pslulucardigan (@patternscout ) with a hood, and I’m using leftover pieces from a black hoodie I got in a swag bag from being a presenter at an awards show (I used the back for another project), and a grey, schlubby zip-up hoodie that had stains on the front. Happy New Year Everyone! Looking forward to the new year I've been thinking about my sewing goals and one of my big ones is to shop my stash more. It's so easy to just keep adding to the stash and forget why I fell in love with a fabric or pattern enough to buy it in the first place. So for my #makenine2022 I'm committing to fabrics and patterns that I already own. Not only will this keep me focused on my goal of sewing down my stash, it also is a very frugal way to tackle this challenge. #MeMadeMay2021 Day 9 and I’m excited to show off my newest make 🤍 I finally finished my second #PSLuluCardigan and I love it! Shout out to Casey from @patternscout for including different cup sizes 🙌🤍 This is also the first fabric I bought when I got into sewing over two years ago. I planned to make a #SewingCoco out of it but seriously underestimated the complexity of sewing with stripy knit fabric at the time 🥲 Since I never finished the Coco (and didn’t see myself wanting one now), I recycled those cut out pieces for this make hence the shorter sleeves. #PatternMatching didn’t work out as well as I would’ve wanted but I’m content with how it is. Is this unzipped because I effed up and the zipper keeps sticking? It’s possible. Also the fabric doesn’t have enough stretch so it’s too small for me.
