I'm excited to share my first make with gifted fabric from Minerva! I sewed up the @patternscout #psromywrap top in a beautiful floral. I've had this pattern stashed for a while, and had one of those "Why haven't I made that yet?!" moments not long ago. It jumped to the top of my list when I spotted this print from @minervadotcom

This pattern is one of those that’s fun to make if you like the sort of details that feel like magic fabric origami when they turn into real shapes. Lovely little pleats and gathers, a continuous lap sleeve placket, a wrap bodice. There are even instructions for how to make the whole thing with a combination of flat felled and French seams for pretty insides too! I did not do that.

Let's be real, I had just come off of making a tiny gown out of chiffon and lace and satin with French seams and hand gathered ruffles and lots and lots of hand-stitched details and I'm getting sewing anxiety just thinking about it. I was in a place where I wanted to quickly overlock my raw edges and move on with my life. That works for this pattern too! But, for some reason, despite bemoaning detail work I dig doing a good continuous lap or pleats. It's like a fabric puzzle you get to wear when you solve it! So very satisfying.

I graded from a size 16 at the shoulders and bust out to a 20 at the waist. I based this on the finished garment measurements given, but in the end, I probably didn't need quite so much room at the waist. Fortunately, I simply adjusted the placement of the buttons to get the wrap fit the way I wanted. There's a fair amount of ease in the bust, which is not always the case with wrap patterns.

It was a fun make, and the pretty feminine details fit my style perfectly. The fabric is a stretch smooth crepe, which at first glance looks like it will be one of those slippery messes that will have you screaming at your machine. Not so! The little bit of slip factor was easy to manage, and it took a press well. The color is intense and just gorgeous! I love the warmth of the ochre against the cool blues. It makes for the perfect transitional summer to autumn piece!
