Made the Birch vest sewing pattern from Patternscout. I made size 12 DD cup option, (my upper bust size is 37 inches, my full bust 41 inches, waist 34 and hip 40). I usually would need DDD (or E) cup size option, but the pattern only goes to DD. Decided to try the DD. I would prefer a little more room for my bust, but it fits me. Just finished making a second one, for my daughter, size 10 DD. Great pattern, easy to do, there’s also a tutorial on YouTube. Giving Al Pacino vibes in this little 2-piece set. Today I finished sewing this #psbirchvest to finish off the look. 🩶 I feel like these two projects have really pushed my skills and I’ve come out the other side feeling like I can make anything! The best is fully lined (first time doing a full lining on a project) and has princess seams to accentuate the fit. I used the leftover fabric from my pants project (#s9709) and honestly think they look so cool together. I’m also going to try styling the vest with jeans and maybe even a maxi skirt. #holidaywardrobe I kept seeing these co-ord sets on Pinterest and in the high street and knew I needed to create my own. The trousers are @namedclothing #ainatrousers they have a semi elasticated back and a cute button detail at the waist, that enables you to adjust the waist fit. The waistcoat is the @patternscout #psbirchvest I chose this pattern as it comes in a good range of sizes and most importantly for me bust size options. Fabric is a striped linen noil from @lamazifabrics so soft and such a beautiful fabric to wear in the heat.

I found this great length of fabric at @thesewinglair and instantly knew I wanted a vest and wide leg pant suit. Matching checks is not my forte and I ended up with a green box over my crotch, next time I'll nudge the pieces over to avoid that! The pants are @cashmerette #calderpants, quick and easy if you aren't doing 4D chess matching up checks. The vest is a @patternscout #psbirchvest and I'm stoked with it. Saying goodbye to my first ever D&D character today, and while cosplay isn’t my thing, this outfit felt very much Marigold - a vaguely misanthropic soft goth gloomstalker ranger/divine agent rouge/psi fighter with coral hair, a big mouth and bigger attitude - energy and I like to think it was committing to really wear her skin that will lead to all of the crits. Roll well, dice babies. This is the @patternscout #psbirchvest in cotton twill from @corefabrics and it’s my way of trying on the tailored waistcoat look without committing to welt pockets and SBAs galore. This is very much a wearable toile as there are a few things I think this needs - narrower shoulders and an extra inch of length to start - but I am very pleased with it. I made a size 20 at the bust graded to 24 at the waist and that was 100% the move. My favorite thing is the Pattern Scout patterns are graded for each cup size in every size and as a very small busted human for the rest of my body, I appreciate this greatly. It’s fully lined and the princess seams were a treat to sew. Conversely, these @fibremood #fibremooddahlia shorts were a NIGHTMARE to work on in several places. Thankfully I know my way around a zip fly but I found the instructions incredibly hard to understand and the large hem band - which is the whole reason I bought this pattern - was difficult to follow. I started sewing clothing a few months ago, and my latest creation is this linen vest! It’s fully lined and made from a @magiclinen sheet that I bought a few years ago, that I dyed this pretty green using @ritdye .😄 When I finished it I thought it looked too much like a Girl Scout vest. 😂 (we wore outfits this exact color,) but it’s growing on me! I had the wonderful opportunity to be a tester for Pattern Scout’s newest pattern - the Birch Vest. It’s a wonderful lined vest which comes in 3 cup sizes. I made a size 14D, grading to a 16 at the waist. The blue vest was made from some stretch cotton twill from @socialfabric, that I had also made some trousers from, and the leopard vest was made from some home decor fabric I had in my stash. I love the fit and it is so quick and easy to make. I can see many more vests in my future and it’s a great accessory to any outfit. Recently I had the great pleasure of testing the new #PSBirchVest for Casey of @PatternScout. What a cute, quick and satisfying sew! I made the size 10 in the C cup option, graded between size 10 and 12 at the waist*. I loved having the cup options and being able to sew this up without have to fuss with a bust adjustment. I used a brushed back twill for the main shell and a bemberg lining, both from @oursocialfabric. I’ve pattern tested a few times for different companies now but this might have been the most enjoyable test I’ve been part of. Casey created a safe and welcoming environment for everyone to thoughtfully share their ideas and feedback. Thanks so much for your generosity @patternscout ! **** Today is release day for the @PatternScout #PSBirchVest pattern that I was lucky enough to test. The pattern is on sale for 20% off until January 8th (no code needed)! The Birch Vest is lined and has a lovely semi-fitted shape with a bit of a curve out from the waist - very elegantly drafted 👌🏻 The neckline has a slightly curved scoop neck that I wouldn’t have thought to use and it gives it a lovely shape. The sizes are up to 58” D-cup bust (yes! There are cup sizes included!) Completely in line with my usual adjustments I graded the waist out one size and had to take in a smidge at the upper bust/armhole. And, because Casey drafts for 5’9”, I don’t have to adjust length for #SewingTall !!! I had such fun using up what I already had on hand: black & white canvas print and coral/red silk cotton lining. I was prepared to not love this vest pattern because there were no facings and I thought my coral/red lining would show at the edges. To compensate, I just stitched all the lining seams at (approximately) a hair more than the outer seams - it worked! 😉 Casey has said she will do a free add-on for facings later, though, too. Running a little late again, here’s My Best Fit, Custom Fitted for #sewapril2024 One of the major points with sewing your own garments is to fit the clothes to your own body. Hardly nobody has all the standard measurements for their size. With better fitted clothes you look slimmer. I always have to grade between sizes if the garment is fitted around the waist. I have a very square body type with hardly any typically feminine waist. Some sewing/fitting knowledge and real stubbornness help transform even a fitted waistcoat like this though. Fabric is actually a Christmas cotton jacquard curtain thrifted at @rodakorsetkungsbacka. (I love it! Apart from this vest I’ve made one dress for me and one for my mum with it. This is my toile for the January Closet Core Crew Onyx knit pant. I am normally a wide leg/jogger pant wearer, so imagine my surprise when I decided to dig in and try the pattern and LOVED the outcome! The Onyx pant pattern is part of Closet Core's "CREW" pattern subscription offering and for 2024 the first of what will end up being one component of a capsule wardrobe. The pattern calls for a Ponte or stable knit- the Ponte that I used for this pair is slightly lighter but feels great and will be a wearable toile for sure. The pattern was very easy to complete and supported by several resources available for CREW patterns if I had needed additional help. Even though this is a toile, I still like to see if I can come up with my "rule of 3" outfits from my closet and found that Onyx was easy to style. The floral vest is the Pattern Scout "Birch"- made from stash upholstery fabric! I was a tester for this garment and love the versatility a vest brings to my closet. The knitted vest is YS-629 Sleeveless Top by Eisaku Noro Design Team using Malabrigo Rios yarn, color: Hojas (880). The pattern is written for a cropped version and I added extra length. The turtleneck is RTW, as is the Madewell cream cardigan. I've included my (very messy..sorry) "Make Notes" with the croquis that I drew up before starting this project. I started sewing clothing a few months ago, and my latest creation is this linen vest! It’s fully lined and made from a @magiclinen sheet that I bought a few years ago, that I dyed this pretty green using @ritdye .😄 When I finished it I thought it looked too much like a Girl Scout vest. 😂 (we wore outfits this exact color,) but it’s growing on me! Giving Al Pacino vibes in this little 2-piece set. Today I finished sewing this #psbirchvest to finish off the look. 🩶 I feel like these two projects have really pushed my skills and I’ve come out the other side feeling like I can make anything! The best is fully lined (first time doing a full lining on a project) and has princess seams to accentuate the fit. I used the leftover fabric from my pants project (#s9709) and honestly think they look so cool together. I’m also going to try styling the vest with jeans and maybe even a maxi skirt. Squeeeaking in my entry for #SewFrugal24 on this rainy (in L.A, anyway) Easter Sunday! 😅 I made this skirt using the free #MiltonPinafore pattern (@peppermintmagazine , designed by @just_patterns ). I hacked it by replacing the bib with a regular waistband and moving the back button placket to the front. Beautiful crinkle rayon was bought last fall from @lyricalfabrics with a gift certificate from my lovely sister, @shauna.hixson.9 (as was the guava pointelle in the first pic, but more about that in a future post). I love how many looks I can get out of this simple, swishy skirt! These are just three. The wrap top is mostly self-drafted (hoping to get the video up on YT later today!), the denim vest is the #psBirchVest (@patternscout ), and the burgundy linen tie-front blouse is the #no9rønne (@howtodofashion ). It’s rare that my sewing projects line up with any challenges going on, so I’m tickled that this worked out! I found this great length of fabric at @thesewinglair and instantly knew I wanted a vest and wide leg pant suit. Matching checks is not my forte and I ended up with a green box over my crotch, next time I'll nudge the pieces over to avoid that! The pants are @cashmerette #calderpants, quick and easy if you aren't doing 4D chess matching up checks. The vest is a @patternscout #psbirchvest and I'm stoked with it. I might give myself a smidge more tummy room next time and shave off some fullness above the bust apex. We are 42 here, we are no longer a perky miss. Lucy wanted to be a model today. Thanks so much for your generosity @patternscout ! **** Today is release day for the @PatternScout #PSBirchVest pattern that I was lucky enough to test. The pattern is on sale for 20% off until January 8th (no code needed)! The Birch Vest is lined and has a lovely semi-fitted shape with a bit of a curve out from the waist - very elegantly drafted 👌🏻 The neckline has a slightly curved scoop neck that I wouldn’t have thought to use and it gives it a lovely shape. The sizes are up to 58” D-cup bust (yes! There are cup sizes included!) Completely in line with my usual adjustments I graded the waist out one size and had to take in a smidge at the upper bust/armhole. And, because Casey drafts for 5’9”, I don’t have to adjust length for #SewingTall !!! I had such fun using up what I already had on hand: black & white canvas print and coral/red silk cotton lining. I was prepared to not love this vest pattern because there were no facings and I thought my coral/red lining would show at the edges. To compensate, I just stitched all the lining seams at (approximately) a hair more than the outer seams - it worked! 😉 Casey has said she will do a free add-on for facings later, though, too. I couldn’t resist button thread to match the lining on my #PSBirchVest - just because I can. Also - as a thank you for reading this far 😉 - not really - Casey is just generous! Casey has given me a code to share with one of you to try the #PSBirchVest for yourself! No, I'm not taking up upholstering anytime soon, however I did have this midcentury modern chair that I picked up at an auction reupholstered! I loved this fabric and there were some remnants returned with the chair which immediately went into my stash! I had an opportunity to be a tester for the Pattern Scout Birch Vest pattern and knew right away what fabric I would choose to make up the vest! Pattern matching was tricky with the pieces that I had left but really wanted to focus on the floral motif on the back. I also pulled the buttons from my stash- they're vintage 1950's and were a perfect match. It's a very versatile pattern; I'm planning on making this one again! I had the wonderful opportunity to be a tester for Pattern Scout’s newest pattern - the Birch Vest. It’s a wonderful lined vest which comes in 3 cup sizes. I made a size 14D, grading to a 16 at the waist. The blue vest was made from some stretch cotton twill from @socialfabric, that I had also made some trousers from, and the leopard vest was made from some home decor fabric I had in my stash. I love the fit and it is so quick and easy to make. I can see many more vests in my future and it’s a great accessory to any outfit. Happy launch day to the Birch Vest from Pattern Scout! I tested this pattern and it was such a fun make! It’s that perfect project with enough details to give a tailored finish, but not big enough that it feels imposing. I had so much fun with this one! It is drafted in three different cup sizes, and the princess seams make it relatively easy to make fit adjustments. I sewed the B cup in size 16 at the shoulders graded to size 20 at the waist. The fit is spot on with enough ease to wear a shirt underneath. I think if I were going to make a version to wear on its own, I would adjust the fit to be a little closer around the arm. I made this version out of some wool my grandmother passed along to me from her stash. It’s perfect for layering! Congratulations to Casey @patternscout on another great pattern launch! #holidaywardrobe I kept seeing these co-ord sets on Pinterest and in the high street and knew I needed to create my own. The trousers are @namedclothing #ainatrousers they have a semi elasticated back and a cute button detail at the waist, that enables you to adjust the waist fit. The waistcoat is the @patternscout #psbirchvest I chose this pattern as it comes in a good range of sizes and most importantly for me bust size options. Fabric is a striped linen noil from @lamazifabrics so soft and such a beautiful fabric to wear in the heat.
