Another gorgeous lining from @davishatextilemerchants quilted onto wool batting. Perfect buttons in multiple sizes from @jimmybuttonau No idea where the stashed rocket label came from, but I figured he'd like it. Two out of three coats for the upcoming holiday....

Finally finished sewing this wool coat for my husband! It was a big project and took me months to complete! More #goldstreampeacoat progress - facings and linings sewn together with a little pop of Liberty lawn piping, and interior phone pocket patched on. Buttons chosen, and decided to do bound buttonholes, despite saying I would never ever do them again.

This was a joint project of my son and I, and it was so great to create together! I think we made a really great coat for him! 🎈 When I was working on my previous coat, my son became curious and I asked if he wanted a coat for himself, too. He was interested and we quickly chose a very suitable fabric from my stash. I asked IG community for an advice on good men’s coats patterns and few people suggested #threadtheorypeacoat which we ended up choosing. I had to narrow down shoulders and upper back a bit, and overall there was quite a lot of seam ripping involved, but mainly because I was working on another body type than mine ☺️ I’ve described all amendments which we opted for on my blog post, if you are curious☀️ It was a lengthy process, but also an enjoyable one as we worked as a team and I was creating something for one of my dearest people on Earth ❤️ Fabric is Yorkshire tweed that I bought from @fabworksmillshop few years ago. Pattern is #goldstreampeacoat by @threadtheorydesigns . I opted to carefully interface the coat and add all supporting features like sleeve heads and shoulder pads for more defined look. So technically it is a very well made coat, fingers crossed he will love wearing it and won’t grow out of it too soon! 🤞

Welcome to what might be the slowest sewing project ever. I'm making the #goldstreampeacoat by @threadtheorydesigns and so far, I have cut out the pattern, and also cut the back, front and one sleeve out of some test wool to check for fit. This is going to be super challenging - I've made a coat before but this one isn't for me. I'm in no rush. I'm hoping to have it finished by the autumn!

It's been a busy morning and I've made all the bits and bobs for my #goldstreampeacoat - that's the sleeve tabs, epaulets, interior patch pocket, exterior patch pockets, patch pocket flaps, and collar (with a pop of colour for the under collar (ie I ran out of the main fabric)). Phew! I can't go much further without choosing buttons, and I need to decide whether to put some magnetic snaps on the outer pocket flaps. My iron and wooden clapper have been working overtime with so much steam my glasses kept misting over. Time for a sit down.

🍁Fall is in the air- isn’t it a gorgeous day in FTW?! Brian just finished his @threadtheorydesigns #goldstreampeacoat in a lovely wool by @ladymcelroyfabrics. This is his first ever coat- didn’t he do an AMAZING job 🤩 Lined in silk! Handstitched buttonholes! It’s a first run- before he attempts the pattern on a gorgeous wool herringbone he picked up in Scotland. I love watching my customers learn how to sew, from his early tshirts and progressing to more adventurous projects such as this. I had chocolate croissants 🥐 to give away this morning to the first customers. You MUST snatch these before noon (I ran out too soon!). Go to @bodegasouth. They have wonderfully delicious to-go goodies and french pastries every weekend. This croissant was so light, buttery and fresh 💚

It’s finished. It’s warm. It’s well-fit and snug, but not tight or restrictive. And the best part, the entire reason I started sewing, the sleeves are long enough. I’m so proud of how this coat turned out. I got to try out some new tailoring techniques, as well as the ever-popular Goldstream Peacoat pattern, designed by @threadtheorydesigns. The finished coat comes with two very roomy side pockets as well as an inner welt pocket. The lapels and collar have been pad-stitched into place to help create and maintain the rounded edges. The final small detail that had to wait until after construction: the inner welt pocket. A staple of a great coat is the vast number of pockets, yes. But at what risk? En total he estado 20 horas cosiendo este abrigo, la prenda a la que más horas le he dedicado. Para que se hagan una idea, una camisa de manga corta de las que hago yo tiene 12 piezas, este abrigo tenía 74. Hace unos meses (a finales de noviembre) fui a un mercadillo navideño, y en un puesto estaban @banjulsisters , un pequeño negocio aquí en Madrid que hace una labor bastante guay trabajando con mujeres de tribus indígenas de Ecuador y Gambia y donan parte de sus ganancias, así que mola bastante. Pues total, que en su puesto vendían cosas de lana de alpaca de Ecuador y me enamoré y decidí comprar 2 mantas para hacer 2 abrigos (1 para mí y el otro para Carlos). Todavía no me ha dado tiempo de hacer el otro, pero aquí está el primero. La lana es súper suave y le metí dentro una tela aislante, así que el abrigo es bastante calentito. Como la tela era lisa, quise elegir una tela de forro más especialita, por eso decidimos poner esa de flores. Los ojales los hice en una máquina de coser especial que solo cose ojales y la verdad que es una auténtica maravilla esa máquina. Al ser mi primer abrigo cometí algún errorcillo, por ejemplo el bajo me quedó un poco feucho, pero bueno. El patrón que usé fue el #goldstreampeacoat , por si alguien quiere hacer este abrigo. I made a ton of alterations to the pattern and then applied a ton of tailoring techniques as well. The fabric is a wool cashmere blend from @blackbirdfabrics. The lining is my #peterpan print on @spoonflower on their poly satin. Christmas Posting Part 3: The Coat I made this coat for my partner for Christmas this year! He's been wanting a wool coat for awhile, and so when we went to the fabric store together, he and I picked out a nice black wool, brown satin brocade with a dusty pink Chinese design, and brown leather buttons. I also purchased hair canvas, flannel, shoulder pads, and other notions for structure and warmth. I started in the beginning of December, and finished just 5 days before Xmas day. The pattern I used was the Goldstream Peacoat from @threadtheorydesigns, but I made some modifications: both following a helpful blog post on their website in which a woman went through her process of creating a tailored version of this same coat, as well as using the book, "Tailoring: a Classic Guide to Sewing the Perfect Jacket" by the editors of Creative Publishing International. I am pretty happy with the outcome, considering this is my first time trying my hand at tailoring. As always, there are some things I'd do differently if I tried again, but I really learned a lot! Morning morning! I’ve been a little absent lately, as all my energy has been going towards this beaut of a coat for my partner. We’re on the homestretch! Welcome to what might be the slowest sewing project ever. I'm making the #goldstreampeacoat by @threadtheorydesigns and so far, I have cut out the pattern, and also cut the back, front and one sleeve out of some test wool to check for fit. This is going to be super challenging - I've made a coat before but this one isn't for me. I'm in no rush. I'm hoping to have it finished by the autumn!
