The temperature in SW England dropped by about 8oC yesterday and in the afternoon we toddled down to the beautiful church in our new little town to hear a piano recital by @simonwatterton perform, who we were blown away by. This is one of the reasons we moved here - we were missing such concerts and fed up of tribute bands in the theatre. I taught piano for years and now I’m missing my piano 😢, although I didn’t play this! We wore memades, of course, which isn’t difficult these days as we gave most of our RTW clothes to Save the Children because they had good labels and highly sellable. We both desperate much more comfortable in our memades. My dress is a @merchantandmills Ellis dress in their gorgeous linen. It’s actually my Christmas dress although the linen is only 170gsm. No pattern matching on the back bodice because I didn’t have enough fabric as I squeezed it out of less than the pattern called for and I’m not ashamed, either. This afternoon we went for a 3-mile walk through the Rousdon Estate only a few miles from our house and close to Lyme Regis. The wind is still cold, despite the time of year so my #ruskasweater kept me nice and warm, over my sleeveless Hinterland dress in blue check linen from @merchantandmills about six years ago. Mr T is wearing all memades too. We brought very few RTW clothes with us and gave the rest to Save the Children charity shops and we get regular updates on how much they’ve raised, which is so good to know. They were almost all White Stuff and Seasalt clothes from our working days. Our new heating system is complete and working perfectly and so quiet after the old one we’d inherited with the bungalow. It sounded like a rattling old train every time it fired up and took no notice of the thermostat so we were roasting or frozen and not much in between. We can now have a shower installed and get on with other jobs. Anyway, it was interesting to see Rousdon because we’d considered buying one of the houses in the fourth photo but we weren’t sure we’d like to live on a secluded estate. Having seen it today, we loved it, but we love even more the community here in Colyton. It made for a fabulous walk though with so much birdsong. The village dates back to the 12th Century but was bought by Sir Henry Peek in 1872 who commissioned the huge mansion in the 6th photo to built on the sight of an old Manor House. He also formed a business with George Frean - anyone remember the biscuit company Peek Frean? The estate is now divided into individual homes and run as a business with the homeowners, which is pretty cool. Rain is due tomorrow morning, so I might even try and organise my sewing room at last. Showcasing the denim @merchantandmills #Ludlow Jacket that I made for Mr T’s birthday last July in the fabulous denim I bought loads of from @stonefabrics. He didn’t wear it much because the sleeves were so wide, but I’ve narrowed them now. I would size down next time. I used the same measurements as I did fit his Landgate jacket but it came up large. He loves it now. Well hello there! It’s been a few days. We have been so busy unpacking, getting quotes for work that need doing and tidying that I’ve not had the energy to post. Downsizing is not for the faint hearted, especially those with hobbies!!! Anyway, we have been out before breakfast each morning, walking our dogs in the many amazing paths and lanes we can choose from, without needing the car. Today’s was along the river that runs through our new tiny town. This walk was what made us want to move here when we chanced upon it one Sunday in September 2023. Having grown up in the Lake District in a water mill, I have so missed having a river for the past twenty years, living in Brixham. I do love the sea but there’s something life giving about a river. I plan to and sit and knit there, or play my harp there this summer. It’s only ten minutes’ walk from home. We’re rocking our @merchantandmills clothes today. I’m wearing the first Camber dress I made and my first Ottoline jeans, plus my #ruskasweater by @jessicamknits in gorgeous lightweight but super warm @bcgarn Loch Lomond worsted yarn from @woolontheexe (of course). I love that my boys are matching for Christmas this year! I never sew for my husband but I fell in love with this thick, super soft cable knit from @joann_stores in deep navy blue and envisioned father son sweaters with it. It has rained all day today and I’ve been at my sewing machine for eight hours making a dry oilskin jacket for Mr T, so I thought I’d indulge myself and show the photos my lovely son took of my Hinterland dress hack in @merchantandmills Moonlit stripe linen. I absolutely love this dress and the waitress at our cafe in Glastonbury complimented me on it, which was flattering as she was probably only in her 20s. It doesn’t look too bad in the photos considering we had been two hours in the car driving north and then sitting eating lunch. Linen is the best fabric, in my opinion. The linen clothes I’ve been sewing these past few years will hopefully last a lifetime and can be patched up creatively when necessary. Mr T and I have given away 90% of our RTW clothes to Save the Children and because I Gift Aid to them, they tell me how much they have raised from them, and our books and CDs etc, and it’s a substantial amount since we started decluttering to move last October. It seemed a nice way to start semi or total retirement and feels good to have a memade wardrobe that fits and suits our new life. I’m still glowing from our fabulous afternoon with my son and daughter in law and looking forward to seeing lots of them when back here for the whole of December. When we took photos of my latest stripy Hinterland dress hack 2 1/2 weeks ago, our estate agents were phoning us all in the chain to suggest a move date of 18 November and we figured by now we would be exchanging contracts with a firm date in mind, but no! The chap at the beginning is still holding everyone up. It’s so frustrating. It’s 11 weeks on Wednesday since the new chain started and it’s well over a year now since we put our cottage on the market and got an offer on the first viewing. I have to admit we’re a tad fed up of living in limbo and half packed but, we have made the best of it and made some amazing memories hiking and swimming etc in the meantime. You can always make good things out of bad or frustrating situations. Anyway here’s my first linen Hinterland which I’ve just taken in by two sizes but I forgot to take my sweater off to show! 🤭. I’m wearing it with my Hinterland sweater by @knit.love.wool in @dropsdesign 4-ply alpaca which I highly recommend. It’s so soft and light, but so warm and economical too, if you’re a serial knitter like me. It cost £27 for the 100% alpaca and £15.99 for gorgeous @malabrigoyarn variegated sock yarn that I used for the fair isle. My shawl is the Tamdou by @mairlynd and is knitted in beautiful Cumbria fingering yarn by @thefibrecompany My Hinterland dress is in @merchantandmills Alta Mare 185 linen and I made it in 2018. At last it’s cool enough to wear my @merchantandmills Cawley Dress in navy cotton twill. I finished it in the spring just as the weather became too warm and have been looking forward to wearing it again. It’s so comfortable and I could hide a merino layer under it in very cold weather. 17 buttons and buttonholes on this one! Leggings are memade - Helen’s Closet Avery Leggings in striped hearses from @stonefabrics. Forgive my sad little flatlay, but I wanted to share the @threadtheorydesigns #finlaysonsweater I made for number one son awhile ago. I noticed that the one he was sporting last Christmas was looking rather sad so I delivered a replacement when we got together for a visit this summer. The Finlayson is one of my favourite patterns to make for the men in my life. This one is in a fleece from @fabricland.canada but it also works well in a sweater knit or sweatshirt fleece. A lot of selfless sewing going on over here. Three shirts for neil- one in gray seersucker, one in red checked seersucker and a blue chambray for fall. Scott has two #Finlaysonsweaters complete. One is a gray wearable lightweight knit from who knows where. The blue is a stretch corduroy-like knit from @the_stitchin_post. The decorative piece in the back is a beautiful Liberty paisley also from the Stitchin post. Pattern is @finlayson from @threadtheorydesigns . Both designs have the collar turned the wrong way. Still cannot figure out how I did that but it seems to be a common error. The shirts are made from fabric from #promenadefabrics in New Orleans. While the pattern started from thread theory I changed so much I can’t claim it as theirs. In the end I did a pattern from needle sticking an original Brooks Brothers shirt and then making it smaller. Seems if ready to wear won’t fit well neither will a pattern. Neck size was an XL but shirt was medium. Here are the new #nelsonpants by @helens__closet made in deadstock black K-deer tencel spandex jersey from @surgefabricshop . This fabric is perfect for these pants. Super soft and flowy! I think I have enough left over to make the same pants in a shorter version 👏 I made a size 16 according to my measurements and made no mods. They’re a perfect fit! I watched Helen’s video post of her making the pants in under an hour and decided to see if I could do it. I made it at 55 minutes (after cutting). This is the first Helen’s Closet pattern I’ve sewn and I immediately decided to buy her other new pattern the Slocan Tank. Finally sewed up the Polartec grid fleece that we bought at @discoveryfabrics (along with my raincoat fabric) back in September. This @threadtheorydesigns #FinlaysonSweater is the third one I’ve made for Thom. It’s very lightweight but quite warm. I added the optional kangaroo pocket this time just because. And since there was a bit of yardage left out of the 2m I squeezed out a #BlommaTank just to try out this free pattern (with newsletter sign-up) from @paradisepatterns and I quite like it! The bands are applied in a somewhat different method than I’ve seen before and it worked out well. Unfortunately though this fleece undershirt is just a little tighter in the waist and hip than I prefer. The fabric doesn’t quite have enough stretch even though I sewed a size F at the top and graded to an H from underarm to hem. It’ll be fine though in the cotton rib I plan to use for the next ones! We actually had a dry day yesterday and it was beautiful down at the harbour - swipe to the end to see the seals who mostly seem to lie on the pontoons in winter. Christmas present for mr Hubby, Thread Theory, Finlayson Sweater. Fabric is from local @abakhanbrand store, medium weight knit. I made him same sweater last year, but he is not wearing it so much and when I asked why, he said sleeves were a bit short, he has pretty long arms. So I lengthened sleeves a bit and this sweater is in constant use 😁👍 I should make him more of these. Most complicated part was attaching the collar, otherwise very quick sew. I added a little detail and made the label myself. Used scrap of denim and my machine emproidered the letters. This afternoon we went for a 3-mile walk through the Rousdon Estate only a few miles from our house and close to Lyme Regis. The wind is still cold, despite the time of year so my #ruskasweater kept me nice and warm, over my sleeveless Hinterland dress in blue check linen from @merchantandmills about six years ago. Mr T is wearing all memades too. We brought very few RTW clothes with us and gave the rest to Save the Children charity shops and we get regular updates on how much they’ve raised, which is so good to know. They were almost all White Stuff and Seasalt clothes from our working days. Our new heating system is complete and working perfectly and so quiet after the old one we’d inherited with the bungalow. It sounded like a rattling old train every time it fired up and took no notice of the thermostat so we were roasting or frozen and not much in between. We can now have a shower installed and get on with other jobs. Anyway, it was interesting to see Rousdon because we’d considered buying one of the houses in the fourth photo but we weren’t sure we’d like to live on a secluded estate. Having seen it today, we loved it, but we love even more the community here in Colyton. It made for a fabulous walk though with so much birdsong. The village dates back to the 12th Century but was bought by Sir Henry Peek in 1872 who commissioned the huge mansion in the 6th photo to built on the sight of an old Manor House. He also formed a business with George Frean - anyone remember the biscuit company Peek Frean? The estate is now divided into individual homes and run as a business with the homeowners, which is pretty cool. Rain is due tomorrow morning, so I might even try and organise my sewing room at last. When we took photos of my latest stripy Hinterland dress hack 2 1/2 weeks ago, our estate agents were phoning us all in the chain to suggest a move date of 18 November and we figured by now we would be exchanging contracts with a firm date in mind, but no! The chap at the beginning is still holding everyone up. It’s so frustrating. It’s 11 weeks on Wednesday since the new chain started and it’s well over a year now since we put our cottage on the market and got an offer on the first viewing. I have to admit we’re a tad fed up of living in limbo and half packed but, we have made the best of it and made some amazing memories hiking and swimming etc in the meantime. You can always make good things out of bad or frustrating situations. Anyway here’s my first linen Hinterland which I’ve just taken in by two sizes but I forgot to take my sweater off to show! 🤭. I’m wearing it with my Hinterland sweater by @knit.love.wool in @dropsdesign 4-ply alpaca which I highly recommend. It’s so soft and light, but so warm and economical too, if you’re a serial knitter like me. It cost £27 for the 100% alpaca and £15.99 for gorgeous @malabrigoyarn variegated sock yarn that I used for the fair isle. My shawl is the Tamdou by @mairlynd and is knitted in beautiful Cumbria fingering yarn by @thefibrecompany My Hinterland dress is in @merchantandmills Alta Mare 185 linen and I made it in 2018. And I knitted my socks last year! Yesterday it rained so hard all day so I made Mr T another @threadtheorydesigns Finlayson Sweater in the beautiful organic fleece back Terry that he bought when we visited @raystitch in London last month. Their organic sweatshirt fabric is superb quality and so lovely to sew and I made it mostly using my Babylock. As you can see, he’s very pleased with it very pleased with it. His jeans are Thread Theory’s Fulford jeans in M&Mills 12oz twill which I made a couple of years ago now. I really love making his clothes! No rain till this evening when it returned with a vengeance, and right after taking these photos at the Leechwell in Totnes town. These wells date back to the 13th Century. The springs were used by the townspeople for healing purposes, most probably for skin and eye conditions, and the troughs into which the outlets poured were given the names Toad, Long Crippler and Snake (long crippler being a local word for the slowworm). Their use became so popular that the Leechwell was included in a list of sites to be minded by two town wardens in 1444. The temperature in SW England dropped by about 8oC yesterday and in the afternoon we toddled down to the beautiful church in our new little town to hear a piano recital by @simonwatterton perform, who we were blown away by. This is one of the reasons we moved here - we were missing such concerts and fed up of tribute bands in the theatre. I taught piano for years and now I’m missing my piano 😢, although I didn’t play this! We wore memades, of course, which isn’t difficult these days as we gave most of our RTW clothes to Save the Children because they had good labels and highly sellable. We both desperate much more comfortable in our memades. My dress is a @merchantandmills Ellis dress in their gorgeous linen. It’s actually my Christmas dress although the linen is only 170gsm. No pattern matching on the back bodice because I didn’t have enough fabric as I squeezed it out of less than the pattern called for and I’m not ashamed, either. Well hello there! It’s been a few days. We have been so busy unpacking, getting quotes for work that need doing and tidying that I’ve not had the energy to post. Downsizing is not for the faint hearted, especially those with hobbies!!! Anyway, we have been out before breakfast each morning, walking our dogs in the many amazing paths and lanes we can choose from, without needing the car. Today’s was along the river that runs through our new tiny town. This walk was what made us want to move here when we chanced upon it one Sunday in September 2023. Having grown up in the Lake District in a water mill, I have so missed having a river for the past twenty years, living in Brixham. I do love the sea but there’s something life giving about a river. I plan to and sit and knit there, or play my harp there this summer. It’s only ten minutes’ walk from home. We’re rocking our @merchantandmills clothes today. I’m wearing the first Camber dress I made and my first Ottoline jeans, plus my #ruskasweater by @jessicamknits in gorgeous lightweight but super warm @bcgarn Loch Lomond worsted yarn from @woolontheexe (of course). Showcasing the denim @merchantandmills #Ludlow Jacket that I made for Mr T’s birthday last July in the fabulous denim I bought loads of from @stonefabrics. He didn’t wear it much because the sleeves were so wide, but I’ve narrowed them now. I would size down next time. I used the same measurements as I did fit his Landgate jacket but it came up large. He loves it now. It has rained all day today and I’ve been at my sewing machine for eight hours making a dry oilskin jacket for Mr T, so I thought I’d indulge myself and show the photos my lovely son took of my Hinterland dress hack in @merchantandmills Moonlit stripe linen. I absolutely love this dress and the waitress at our cafe in Glastonbury complimented me on it, which was flattering as she was probably only in her 20s. It doesn’t look too bad in the photos considering we had been two hours in the car driving north and then sitting eating lunch. Linen is the best fabric, in my opinion. The linen clothes I’ve been sewing these past few years will hopefully last a lifetime and can be patched up creatively when necessary. Mr T and I have given away 90% of our RTW clothes to Save the Children and because I Gift Aid to them, they tell me how much they have raised from them, and our books and CDs etc, and it’s a substantial amount since we started decluttering to move last October. It seemed a nice way to start semi or total retirement and feels good to have a memade wardrobe that fits and suits our new life. I’m still glowing from our fabulous afternoon with my son and daughter in law and looking forward to seeing lots of them when back here for the whole of December. I love that my boys are matching for Christmas this year! I never sew for my husband but I fell in love with this thick, super soft cable knit from @joann_stores in deep navy blue and envisioned father son sweaters with it. I used the Finlayson Sweater pattern from @threadtheorydesigns and it was my first time using their patterns. Forgive my sad little flatlay, but I wanted to share the @threadtheorydesigns #finlaysonsweater I made for number one son awhile ago. I noticed that the one he was sporting last Christmas was looking rather sad so I delivered a replacement when we got together for a visit this summer. The Finlayson is one of my favourite patterns to make for the men in my life. This one is in a fleece from @fabricland.canada but it also works well in a sweater knit or sweatshirt fleece. A lot of selfless sewing going on over here. Three shirts for neil- one in gray seersucker, one in red checked seersucker and a blue chambray for fall. Scott has two #Finlaysonsweaters complete. One is a gray wearable lightweight knit from who knows where. The blue is a stretch corduroy-like knit from @the_stitchin_post. The decorative piece in the back is a beautiful Liberty paisley also from the Stitchin post. Pattern is @finlayson from @threadtheorydesigns . Both designs have the collar turned the wrong way. Still cannot figure out how I did that but it seems to be a common error. The shirts are made from fabric from #promenadefabrics in New Orleans. While the pattern started from thread theory I changed so much I can’t claim it as theirs. In the end I did a pattern from needle sticking an original Brooks Brothers shirt and then making it smaller. Seems if ready to wear won’t fit well neither will a pattern. Neck size was an XL but shirt was medium. Here are the new #nelsonpants by @helens__closet made in deadstock black K-deer tencel spandex jersey from @surgefabricshop . This fabric is perfect for these pants. Super soft and flowy! I think I have enough left over to make the same pants in a shorter version 👏 I made a size 16 according to my measurements and made no mods. They’re a perfect fit! I watched Helen’s video post of her making the pants in under an hour and decided to see if I could do it. I made it at 55 minutes (after cutting). This is the first Helen’s Closet pattern I’ve sewn and I immediately decided to buy her other new pattern the Slocan Tank. The top is a @threadtheorydesigns pattern I made probably 8 years ago #finlaysonsweater - with a modified collar. Finally sewed up the Polartec grid fleece that we bought at @discoveryfabrics (along with my raincoat fabric) back in September. This @threadtheorydesigns #FinlaysonSweater is the third one I’ve made for Thom. It’s very lightweight but quite warm. I added the optional kangaroo pocket this time just because. And since there was a bit of yardage left out of the 2m I squeezed out a #BlommaTank just to try out this free pattern (with newsletter sign-up) from @paradisepatterns and I quite like it! The bands are applied in a somewhat different method than I’ve seen before and it worked out well. Unfortunately though this fleece undershirt is just a little tighter in the waist and hip than I prefer. The fabric doesn’t quite have enough stretch even though I sewed a size F at the top and graded to an H from underarm to hem. It’ll be fine though in the cotton rib I plan to use for the next ones! This one is for the guys! Or should I say this one is for those that like a classic straight cut hoodie with a bit of a classy twist. #genderisasocialconstruct #wearwhatyouwant The @threadtheorydesigns #finlaysonsweater is another pattern that I have made multiple times that works great with polar fleece. It is designed for knits and my first versions I used knit fabric for the sleeve cuffs and bands as I was worried the polar fleece wouldn’t be stretchy enough. I experimented and discovered it doesn’t matter. 😅 Though stretching the cuffs to fit and sewing three layers of this stuff does require patience, serious finger gymnastics and deep breathing. 😂 This is a fantastic pattern and very well drafted. The fit is slim and the model wearing the grey is true to the size made. The model for the khaki one measured smaller than the size made so it’s baggier on him. The pattern has an option for a hood or a rolled shawl collar (which I haven’t tried yet). I made these less than a year into my return to sewing. It was a challenge as that collar is a bit tricky. I’d say this is for advanced or adventurous beginners. The high loft of polar fleece can mask many sins. On the other hand it only has two way stretch so can’t be manipulated as much as knits so in that regard can be less forgiving. We actually had a dry day yesterday and it was beautiful down at the harbour - swipe to the end to see the seals who mostly seem to lie on the pontoons in winter. I’m wearing my #mmwhittaker which I made about four years ago and have hardly worn. I didn’t like the way the skirt hangs, but I’ve decided I really like it now! Somethings just grow on you, do any of you find that with clothes you make? I made it up in 6oz denim from @stonefabrics years ago, in fact the same fabric I used for my first Ottoline. (I’m currently making a heavier denim Ottoline). Christmas present for mr Hubby, Thread Theory, Finlayson Sweater. Fabric is from local @abakhanbrand store, medium weight knit. I made him same sweater last year, but he is not wearing it so much and when I asked why, he said sleeves were a bit short, he has pretty long arms. So I lengthened sleeves a bit and this sweater is in constant use 😁👍 I should make him more of these. Most complicated part was attaching the collar, otherwise very quick sew. I added a little detail and made the label myself. Used scrap of denim and my machine emproidered the letters. Finished up a Finlayson sweatshirt for my brother. It is super soft sweatshirt fleece with contrasting ribbed jersey from Fabric Place Basement. They never let me down! It was my first time sewing a Thread Theory pattern and I just love it. It looks so polished with the twill tape, the collar is a beautiful design element. It’s still January! Not too late for a Make Nine 2022 yet! Right?! Have you ever had a theme for your #makenine ? This year I’m trying something different and only including projects for my husband in my make nine plans. I figure I’m going to sew for myself no matter what, but having definite plans will mean at least SOME of these projects will actually get sewn this year! At last it’s cool enough to wear my @merchantandmills Cawley Dress in navy cotton twill. I finished it in the spring just as the weather became too warm and have been looking forward to wearing it again. It’s so comfortable and I could hide a merino layer under it in very cold weather. 17 buttons and buttonholes on this one! Leggings are memade - Helen’s Closet Avery Leggings in striped hearses from @stonefabrics. Mr at is wearing his well-worn corduroy (from @exeterfabriccentre )!@threadtheorydesigns Fulford jeans, and Finlayson Sweater in superb quality organic fleece back sweatshirt from @raystitch. The sea temperature has only dropped to 16oC but it did feel cooler. Invigorating though, and we like invigorating! 😁. I am wearing my hand knit socks to warm my toes afterwards. Still no move date yet but we are inching closer to it. The person at the bottom of the chain is complicating things. So frustrating. But, I shall keep sewing and knitting. Using some more of that great textured jacquard knit from @1stforfabrics, I made the Finlayson Sweater from @threadtheorydesigns which I think looks pretty fine on my OH! Gorgeous cozy fabric, super easy to make jumper with great instructions that was a breeze to put together. It has this great neckline that gives it a bit of sophistication. Best news is he loves it and has worn it every day since I finished it. Here is another make from last year that I didn't post about. This is the Finlayson Sweater by @threadtheorydesigns in a size XL that I made for Andrew. I used a sweatshirt fleece from @minervadotcom . I'm really happy with this sweatshirt! The front neckline is a bit fiddly and stressful. If you get it wrong, it's front and center. I hand-basted the neckline and crossover hood to make sure it looked alright. I also love the decorative facing on the back. It's a great spot for a tag and it just makes the whole sweatshirt look really nice. I love seeing end of year and wrap up posts, so here is mine for 2023! I don't make as many items as some folks I follow, but I do find great joy in the things I do make. Here are my highlights for my sewing year, likely in chronological order. Part 1: Garments 1. Easy Fit Yoga Pants by @jsterndesigns . I made these at the SewExpo this year, my first time going! 2. Paola Workwear Jacket by the @fabricsstorecom for Andrew. I used flannel scraps for this wearable muslin. At the time, I had a difficult time with the collar and I haven't gone back to make this again. 3. Adrienne Blouse by @fridaypatterncompany . This was a wearable toile and I love it! I've only made one more, but I have lots planned. 4. Matching set with the Luna Tank by @helens__closet and Easy Fit Yoga Pants by @jsterndesigns . 5. Nolan pants by @seamwork . I made a zipper fly! Tragically, the pants are two sizes too big and I need to re-home them. 6. Jesse tee by @truebias . I like this shirt a lot, even though it's a tad too short. I'd love to make more with a couple adjustments. 7. Puff pants by @georgeandgingerpatternco . These are a wearable toile and for next versions need order of construction adjustments. 8-9. Finlayson Sweater by @threadtheorydesigns for Andrew. This is the second Finlayson I've made Andrew and I always have plans for so many more. This one is for the guys! Or should I say this one is for those that like a classic straight cut hoodie with a bit of a classy twist. #genderisasocialconstruct #wearwhatyouwant The @threadtheorydesigns #finlaysonsweater is another pattern that I have made multiple times that works great with polar fleece. It is designed for knits and my first versions I used knit fabric for the sleeve cuffs and bands as I was worried the polar fleece wouldn’t be stretchy enough. I experimented and discovered it doesn’t matter. 😅 Though stretching the cuffs to fit and sewing three layers of this stuff does require patience, serious finger gymnastics and deep breathing. 😂 This is a fantastic pattern and very well drafted. The fit is slim and the model wearing the grey is true to the size made. The model for the khaki one measured smaller than the size made so it’s baggier on him. The pattern has an option for a hood or a rolled shawl collar (which I haven’t tried yet). I made these less than a year into my return to sewing. It was a challenge as that collar is a bit tricky. I’d say this is for advanced or adventurous beginners. The high loft of polar fleece can mask many sins. On the other hand it only has two way stretch so can’t be manipulated as much as knits so in that regard can be less forgiving. My husband’s birthday was at the end of January. He said he has enough of pajamas pants and similar makes, so I decided to make him two sweaters that had a lot of details that took some time. One was a hit, unfortunately this one was not. It probably didn’t help that Elise yelled out that mom has a sweater just like that when he opened it. 🤣 I do have some tops with this shawl type collar, which is true. However, this is a Thread Theory pattern. I had not made any of their pattern before. They only have men’s patterns. I thought this type of collar would be so nice for work for my husband. It all started, because I bought some rib knit from Greenstyle fabrics for some tops. Well, what came was a tube of what I would call ribbing. So, I purchased some of their french terry to match the ribbing and had just a pattern like this in mind with it. I have some for myself in french blue and I would love to make this exact style for me. I may just do a full bust adjustment and use the same pattern. Even though it’s not his favorite, I love the way it fit him and it was fun to make. Christmas present for mr Hubby, Thread Theory, Finlayson Sweater. Fabric is from local @abakhanbrand store, medium weight knit. I made him same sweater last year, but he is not wearing it so much and when I asked why, he said sleeves were a bit short, he has pretty long arms. So I lengthened sleeves a bit and this sweater is in constant use 😁👍 I should make him more of these. Most complicated part was attaching the collar, otherwise very quick sew. I added a little detail and made the label myself. Used scrap of denim and my machine emproidered the letters. I wasn't the only one glamming it up on the allotment the other day. I made something else for him! Using some more of that great textured jacquard knit from @1stforfabrics, I made the Finlayson Sweater from @threadtheorydesigns which I think looks pretty fine on my OH! Gorgeous cozy fabric, super easy to make jumper with great instructions that was a breeze to put together. It has this great neckline that gives it a bit of sophistication. Best news is he loves it and has worn it every day since I finished it. Progress photos of my husbands sweatshirt. I love love the colour as it’s so bright. I’m glad I’m making it for him as the weather has been complete crap so far and it’s still freezing cold at night. 🥶🥶🥶 I used #threadtheorydesigns pattern #threadtheoryfinlayson I’m making the hooded version of it. I added a cotton poplin as the back facing, just to add some visual interest when it’s sewn up. And I twill taped the shoulders to stop them from stretching out as well.
