Recent makes and repairs. 1) I sewed another pair of @threadtheorydesigns Jutland pants with mods to suit my husband’s needs. I tried to reinforce as much as possible because he will wear these until they fall apart. Navy corduroy from @fabricwholesaledirect 2) I chopped off the bottom of this hoodie dress and used the leftover to make a bottom band. I’m sure I’ll reach for it more as a sweatshirt. 3) The zipper pull came off these pants. I purchased some stoppers and put the pull back on. Not my neatest fix but they are at least wearable now. 4) The tie ends on this wrap cardigan were switched accidentally. I never wore it because it drove me crazy. I made these #jutlandpants for my husband this week. The fabric is the washed cotton canvas from #blackbirdfabrics. He wore them last night and loves them. I made the version with the welt pockets because I actually love making welt pockets. I opted to sew both the inseam and the side seams as flat-felled seams. I just finished a pair of #jutlandpants for my husband. I used the mid weight organic cotton canvas from #corefabrics. Some of the seams were tough to stitch over but damn canvas holds a crease really well. I’ll have to get photos of them on him soon. I’ve been sewing plenty for me too but for some reason getting photos of my makes on me seems like a lot of effort lately. When the firstborn child requested brown shorts I was SO much more excited to sew than when I made the exact same thing for him in black! This chocolate brown cotton twill from @circularsourcing was just beautiful to work with and it truly felt like making the most of a manufacturer remnant because it was one piece about 60cm x 150 plus another scrap about a quarter the size and I used almost every bit. @ThreadTheoryDesigns #JutlandPants pair number 6 for Thom! Each pair is different and this one gave me a few extra grey hairs. This stretch denim obviously had more elastane in it than usual or else it was extra sensitive to heat. I did my usual wash and machine dry before cutting it out but when the iron hit it, it shrank quite a lot in the width-wise direction. So of course then I had to shrink all the pieces (and there are many!) the same way. After that the interfacing still bubbled a bit after application but not too obviously from the outside. Luckily it didn’t shrink at all in the lengthwise direction! I was able to use smaller vertical seam allowances (thank goodness they were 5/8” originally!) and along with the looser style and the residual stretch the finished pants still fit fine. Whew! The fabric for the pockets and other details is a vintage Concord floral cotton print. I think the scraps were left over from something I made for my daughter in the late ‘70’s or early ‘80’s! Maybe she will recognize it? I also added my last precious #sewoverageism #sewover50 tag to one of the cargo pockets. He wears his Jutlands all the time as his absolutely favourite pants. However now that he has half a dozen pairs I can go on to making him some other things. Like another vest, a warm flannel shirt or another warm sweatshirt. I feel some serious fabric shopping will be happening first though! The Last of the Blues (for now at least): this is the 5th pair of @ThreadTheoryDesigns #JutlandPants that I’ve made for Thom. He obviously loves them very much, especially with all the extras like cargo pockets and knee and cuff reinforcements. I have one more grey pair cut out but need a break from sewing heavy denim in the Sweat Shop! 🥵 At least until it cools down to something reasonable. And then he’ll have a half-dozen pair and I won’t have to make any more for quite some time. Maybe forever? 😅 Mending will keep them going… Apologies that this isn’t a modelled pic either because he would much rather be wearing his old (and not wife-made) shorts in our current heat wave! This dark denim fabric has a slight stretch content for extra comfort. Just finished my first pair of men’s trousers mostly made on the hand cranked Singer. Great design from Thread Theory ‘Jutland’. The Singer/I occasionally struggled with the thick fabric. matchy matchy 👯‍♂️ I’ve been wearing these pants a ton since making them a few months ago, and eventually Kevin got a little jealous and wanted a pair of out of the same @thenewdenimproject upcycled denim! We bought the fabric awhile ago and after lots of pestering I finally made him a matching pair! (At the time blackbird was out of the fabric I ordered so we got it from the fabric store. The fabrics look & feel identical despite being listed under different weights and color ways.) Then we went to @savers_thrift and picked up a fabulous haul of items to upcycle, including this cotton ikea blanket that we promptly turned into matching pullovers! 👖Patterns: Kevin’s pants are the @threadtheorydesigns #JutlandPants in size 32 (his true measurement), out of 13oz upcycled denim from @wearethefabricstore in the pumice speckle color way. I redid the zipper fly construction bc it’s meh. My pants are @openstudiopatterns #ShopPants (size 1, waist taken in 1” and shortened) in 12oz upcycled denim from @blackbirdfabrics in the concrete fleck color way. 👕Patterns: @merchantandmills #MMSidney in a thrifted ikea blanket. Kevin’s is size 10 with the sleeves and body lengthened (38” chest, 6’4”), mine is size 6, body shortened (32” chest, 5’3”) both are 2 sizes down from where the chart puts us. The Bearded One (aka @thom_chadwick ) has a new shirt! This is the #FairfieldShirt from @ThreadTheoryDesigns and is the 5th or 6th one I’ve made so far. The pattern has been tweaked into his perfect fit and this is the second half of my 4 metres of Abyss Blue linen that I used for my Ethel Pants. It’s a perfect weight for a shirt. The buttons were recycled off an old worn-out shirt and matched perfectly. Freelance project complete for this 3 button blazer/trouser set. The blazer is vintage pattern #butterick5630 and pants are #jutlandpants pattern. Both are made out of light grey lightweight wool and lined with a beautiful blue silk charmeuse fabric. The blazer is semi-fitted with center back inverted pleat, welt and flap pockets. Changed to 3 button front closure rather than 2. The pants are classic relaxed fit, straight legged , fly front, belt loops, welt back pockets front pockets and french and felled seams. This is a great choice for warm weather Texas which is where my client lives. I learned some new tailoring techniques with this project which is always fun ( and a little nerve-wracking at the same time when it’s for a client). Making a tailored blazer made me well-aware why a well-made suit is pricey and what is under it all! Another year of attempting my #MakeNine2025 challenge which i probably go off track on by...March? 😆 I really like it though for taking stock of what fabrics I have & match them up with patterns I am excited about 1. A Fox Quilt - friend's baby is due mid Feb so there's a definite deadline 2. Another #CameronButtonUp in a silk linen blend for hubby. Likely with some embroidery this time 3. #AtlasBlouse in navy viscose to act as a semi-mock up 4. #AtlasBlouse in this seagreen linen I bought in Japan 5. #ClosetCoreCarolyn (short) in a leafy double gauze 6. #ClosetCoreCarolyn (long) in Llama cotton 7. #PippiPinafore in an autumnal check fabric 8. #JutlandPants in a grey twill also for hubby 9. #DDOrage in a dark blue with colourful specks knit fabric Let's see how many I manage this year. I definitely think repeating one or two patterns helps with my sewjo as I don't have to worry about fitting. There's no Roscoe blouse on the list but I wouldn't be surprised if that sneaked in 🤣

A twofer for him! First the #BeachcomberJacket from @FridayPatternCompany. This casual lined jacket will be great for days that aren’t too cold or wet. That time is coming someday fairly soon, right? We even chose a size that left enough room underneath for an extra layer if necessary but isn’t too oversized without. He picked a bold corduroy fabric in a greyed green that of course doesn’t photograph correctly at all. The detail pic is the closest. And for lining it’s the same Dragon Flame quilting cotton that I made my ironing board covers from recently. He hadn’t even remembered that fact when he chose the last of the bolt at @Dressew so I had the opportunity to combine the last of the leftovers of both jacket lining and covers to squeeze a #WBMTropicalShirt to match. This is a classic camp shirt pattern and he has many of them now which are worn all summer. (I even have another cut out in linen but may not get to sew it until too late to wear it!) Back to the jacket. I used the original wider collar although they have a narrower version available as well. This one can be popped high for lots of neck coverage if necessary. There’s also a hood if you prefer but he never wears hoods so I didn’t bother with it. For the jacket’s chest pockets I used a couple of the free pocket add-ons available for their Ilford Jacket instead of the included one. I chose a similar one but a little larger than Beachcomber’s and I also went for a pen pocket under the left one. This won’t actually be for a pen but for his sunglasses to hang from! Seriously though, remind me why I decided to make welt pockets in this thick corduroy? Ugh. At least you can’t see the back part! Then I finished up with copper snaps from good old @LonsdaleLeather and I’m getting really comfortable applying them now especially after my raingear projects. Hammer time! Oh and did I mention he’s also wearing a pair of his favourite #JutlandPants and I still have one last pair to make him before the end of the month. This was my first pair of fitted pants! I "finished" these shortly before Christmas, but never wore them. So recently I revisited them and took both side seams in by ~2cm, giving them a more fitted look which is more my style. I should have spent more time with the toile instead of changing everything after construction... Since these were my first fitted pants, that meant it was also my first zipper fly...and it went horribly. The topstitching is really bad and they should only be worn with a t-shirt covering the fly 😂 I'm also not happy with the instructions, though the online sew-along blog is slightly better. But overall, the fit is really nice now! They have a nice, high-waisted fit, are reasonably snug above the hip (the waistband gapes when sitting because it's straight 🤷) and are fitted through the legs. I also like the added detail of using the pocket fabric for the inner waistband which is then bias-bound. Pattern: #jutlandpants @threadtheorydesigns, size 32, took both side seams in by 2cm and moved the side seams to prevent twisting below the knee (hence that red line) Fabric: Cotton Canvas in grey, 250gsm (I ordered grey-beige, but I still think I received grey 🤔)

A Fox Quilt - friend's baby is due mid Feb so there's a definite deadline 2. Another #CameronButtonUp in a silk linen blend for hubby. I made these #jutlandpants for my husband this week. The fabric is the washed cotton canvas from #blackbirdfabrics. He wore them last night and loves them. I made the version with the welt pockets because I actually love making welt pockets. I opted to sew both the inseam and the side seams as flat-felled seams. A twofer for him! First the #BeachcomberJacket from @FridayPatternCompany. This casual lined jacket will be great for days that aren’t too cold or wet. That time is coming someday fairly soon, right? We even chose a size that left enough room underneath for an extra layer if necessary but isn’t too oversized without. He picked a bold corduroy fabric in a greyed green that of course doesn’t photograph correctly at all. The detail pic is the closest. And for lining it’s the same Dragon Flame quilting cotton that I made my ironing board covers from recently. He hadn’t even remembered that fact when he chose the last of the bolt at @Dressew so I had the opportunity to combine the last of the leftovers of both jacket lining and covers to squeeze a #WBMTropicalShirt to match. This is a classic camp shirt pattern and he has many of them now which are worn all summer. (I even have another cut out in linen but may not get to sew it until too late to wear it!) Back to the jacket. I used the original wider collar although they have a narrower version available as well. This one can be popped high for lots of neck coverage if necessary. There’s also a hood if you prefer but he never wears hoods so I didn’t bother with it. For the jacket’s chest pockets I used a couple of the free pocket add-ons available for their Ilford Jacket instead of the included one. I chose a similar one but a little larger than Beachcomber’s and I also went for a pen pocket under the left one. This won’t actually be for a pen but for his sunglasses to hang from! Seriously though, remind me why I decided to make welt pockets in this thick corduroy? Ugh. At least you can’t see the back part! Then I finished up with copper snaps from good old @LonsdaleLeather and I’m getting really comfortable applying them now especially after my raingear projects. Hammer time! Oh and did I mention he’s also wearing a pair of his favourite #JutlandPants and I still have one last pair to make him before the end of the month. Recent makes and repairs. 1) I sewed another pair of @threadtheorydesigns Jutland pants with mods to suit my husband’s needs. I tried to reinforce as much as possible because he will wear these until they fall apart. Navy corduroy from @fabricwholesaledirect 2) I chopped off the bottom of this hoodie dress and used the leftover to make a bottom band. I’m sure I’ll reach for it more as a sweatshirt. 3) The zipper pull came off these pants. I purchased some stoppers and put the pull back on. Not my neatest fix but they are at least wearable now. 4) The tie ends on this wrap cardigan were switched accidentally. I never wore it because it drove me crazy. NYC Outfit Roundup ✨ Kevin and I spent a long weekend in New York for my brother’s wedding on Long Island, and then extended our trip 36 hours since Kevin’s never been to the city before! We had so much fun and fit tons in! The main reason we extended our stay was to hit up Eleven Madison Park🍴for our belated anniversary dinner and it was amazing!! 🥂We also saw Book of Mormon on broadway, (my second time seeing it here, but 11 years later - 5 of which were spent in Utah - it really hit different 😂) I did go to Mood Fabrics but since I don’t need any fabric I just snagged some cute buttons! I only made two things for this trip, a jewelry pouch from a free pattern I found @applegreencottage which worked perfectly (last pic)!! @jamesjwolff bought some @filson1897 oiled tin cloth fabric and asked me to make him a pair of work pants. They came out so cool! 😍 I used @threadtheorydesigns #jutlandpants, but modified them to have back yokes rather than darts and designed my own double knee fronts using @leila.makes tips! 🙌

Last day of March so I’m squeezing these in before our 🌸Celebration of Spring🌸 family dinner! These are the first of three new pairs of @ThreadTheoryDesigns #JutlandPants for Thom. Couldn’t get a modelled shot yet but here’s some detail pics! These were totally frugal: 4th use of the pattern, fabric from @heathersewist at the last #MetroVanSewingSwap, contrast lining and pocket bags from deepest stash. This black denim is the first non-stretch fabric I’ve used for this pattern but surprisingly they are still comfy! I added all the reinforcements pieces to the knees and back cuffs plus the cargo pockets, and even went for the crossed back belt loops which I think are a really nice detail. Memo to Self: Do NOT try to do regular flat fell seams. They were a lot of fuss and immediately started to fray out of the topstitching. 😠 Luckily I discovered this before I sewed on the cargo pockets! I unpicked the seams and restitched with what I call my faux flatfell - actually just a regular seam, serged and then topstitched. It’s actually very durable and not nearly as bulky. I’d forgotten that I’d done the last 3 pairs like that because the stretch denims are quite thick. 🫤 So now I have 2 more pairs of Jutlands cut out and ready to sew. Thom will have a whole wardrobe of them! He loves them so much better than his old ragged Levis (which I keep stealing to cut up! 😂) and I hope these will last for a good long time. Just finished my first pair of men’s trousers mostly made on the hand cranked Singer. Great design from Thread Theory ‘Jutland’. The Singer/I occasionally struggled with the thick fabric. Apparently my grandmother regularly made men’s trousers on this machine but she sewed military uniforms during WWII so I imagine she could do them in her sleep. #jutlandpants #threadtheory #singersewingmachine

matchy matchy 👯‍♂️ I’ve been wearing these pants a ton since making them a few months ago, and eventually Kevin got a little jealous and wanted a pair of out of the same @thenewdenimproject upcycled denim! We bought the fabric awhile ago and after lots of pestering I finally made him a matching pair! (At the time blackbird was out of the fabric I ordered so we got it from the fabric store. The fabrics look & feel identical despite being listed under different weights and color ways.) Then we went to @savers_thrift and picked up a fabulous haul of items to upcycle, including this cotton ikea blanket that we promptly turned into matching pullovers! 👖Patterns: Kevin’s pants are the @threadtheorydesigns #JutlandPants in size 32 (his true measurement), out of 13oz upcycled denim from @wearethefabricstore in the pumice speckle color way. I redid the zipper fly construction bc it’s meh. This was my first pair of fitted pants! I "finished" these shortly before Christmas, but never wore them. So recently I revisited them and took both side seams in by ~2cm, giving them a more fitted look which is more my style. I should have spent more time with the toile instead of changing everything after construction... Since these were my first fitted pants, that meant it was also my first zipper fly...and it went horribly. The topstitching is really bad and they should only be worn with a t-shirt covering the fly 😂 I'm also not happy with the instructions, though the online sew-along blog is slightly better. But overall, the fit is really nice now! They have a nice, high-waisted fit, are reasonably snug above the hip (the waistband gapes when sitting because it's straight 🤷) and are fitted through the legs. I also like the added detail of using the pocket fabric for the inner waistband which is then bias-bound. Pattern: #jutlandpants @threadtheorydesigns, size 32, took both side seams in by 2cm and moved the side seams to prevent twisting below the knee (hence that red line) Fabric: Cotton Canvas in grey, 250gsm (I ordered grey-beige, but I still think I received grey 🤔)
