I have been meaning to post these since receiving them months and months ago from @moxiestudiolisa haha. Today seems like a good day to share 🩷 My husband and I renewed our vows in May for our 10th wedding anniversary. He said he wanted to marry me again in front of our immediate family, and who could say no to that? 😍 I, of course, made all the things! My dress was a mash of 3 patterns: the bodice and ruffle sleeves were the Ruffled Top Sydney and Laced Up Constance Dress by @thisiskachi . The skirt is the Pirate Pencil Skirt by @patternsforpirates . The guys' shirts are the Fairfield Button Up Shirt by @threadtheorydesigns, and their ties are a free tie pattern by @treasurie . I created the quilted bunting from a cutter quilt as well as the "baby's breath" flowers in my bouquet. The bouquet and boutonniere were self designed. The last picture is a memorial chair I created in memory of my grandpa, my husband's cousin, and my stepmom, whom we miss dearly...the pictures of each of them were from our wedding day. Two Me-Mades in one outfit. My husband has been pairing these two gifts together a lot since I gave him the hat for his birthday this year. (A little tradition we’ve had going ever since the first birthday we spent together.) I made him a hat for that first birthday and he’s worn it to death, so it was about time for another one. I picked up this gorgeous yarn from @oxfordyarnstore this summer (a lovely store with even lovelier staff) and knit this up almost completely while on our plane trip to visit our families in the US. It’s such a quick, easy knit with stunning results. The shirt was for last year’s birthday and it is the famous #fairfieldbuttonup made it super soft flannel shirting. As soon as the weather gets cooler, he reaches for this about twice a week and it still looks just as good as when I gifted it to him last year. I clearly need to make him another one soon. We got to visit the little community park and farm we got married yesterday, and I was finally able to grab a few shots of both together. I didn’t intentionally make the hat to match his shirt, but I couldn’t be more pleased that they go so well together. Was tun, wenn das Öffnen eines Stoffpäckchens fast zu einem innerfamiliären Zwist führt, weil die einen ein Kleid im ausgepackten neuen Schatz sehen und die anderen das ultimative Herrenhemd? Und der andere - sprich, das liebe Kind - dabei höchst geschickt sämtliche emotionale Register zieht? Genau. Man setzt sich als gute Mutter hin, spielt unter Einsatz sämtlicher Geduldsfäden mehrere Runden kreatives Schnittmustertetris und näht beides. Als Kompromiss wurde es ein kurzärmeliges Hemd - lange wären sich beim besten Willen aus den insgesamt 3m Stoff für Kleid und Hemd nicht ausgegangen. Und das passt auch wunderbar, denn die tolle Leinen-Baumwoll-Zusammensetzung des neuen Buffalokaros von @zuleeg_stoffe eignet sich genial für den Sommer. You sit down as a good mother, play several rounds of creative pattern tetris using all your patience threads and sew both. As a compromise, it became a short-sleeved shirt. And that is fiercely loved, because the great linen-cotton blend of the new buffalo check from @zuleeg_stoffe is really brilliant for summer. When he eyes up a fabric that I’ve had in my stash for a few years and not so subtly requests a new shirt 😅 I’d been saving this cotton viscose for the perfect garment - it’s perfectly lightweight but structured enough to hold a pleat or a collar - but as it turns out that garment wasn’t meant for me 😂 I used the @threadtheorydesigns #FairfieldButtonUp with all his standard fitting adjustments (lowered and lengthened collar, size large shoulder - medium hip) and just straightened off the curved hem. Hah! My last man-shirt was but a clever ruse to disguise my real objective: practicing to make this extra special secret 2nd Father's Day shirt! This time I used contrast fabric for the collar stand and copied one of his RTW shirts by adding a little band around the sleeve hem (see second pic). This adds a certain je ne sais quoi to the end result, IMO. Fabric is once again from the amazing @fabricmart and is the softest, loveliest cross-dyed linen in baby blue and pink. I followed #sandrabetzina 's linen method: hot dry iron; wash in hot, dry on hot until nearly dry; iron again. I made a #fairfieldbuttonup shirt by @threadtheorydesigns for my lovely dad which he will be receiving for Christmas! He requested a shirt with a grandad collar, NO POCKETS PLEASE, and plain fabric NO PATTERNS. He’s a conservative liberal 😅 His measurements spanned 3 different sizes according to the pattern’s size chart. He was mainly a size Large but with an XXL collar size. So I cut a size L and a XXL collar, and used Thread Theory’s sew along blog post on creating a custom fit to adjust the shirt for a larger collar size, which was really clear and so useful. I also watched a couple of the incredibly helpful YouTube videos by @sewsewlive where she makes this shirt, and she had so many handy tips that I wouldn’t have known about otherwise, so thank you Saremy! The pattern is actually really easy to follow but I would recommend Saremy’s videos as there are a few nuances to it. It’s made entirely with flat-felled seams which are really satisfying, and uses the GENIUS burrito method for sewing the yoke which I was so excited about when it actually worked! I made a few mods, the main one being the larger collar size. I also lengthened the sleeves by 1 inch, and straightened out the side seams to give a slightly boxier fit. After I finished, I measured the inside of the collar, just to check it, but somehow it hasn’t come out any bigger!!! I wasn’t prepared to re-do it! So if it doesn’t fit then he’s just going to have to leave the top button undone and be happy 😂 let’s hope the rest of it fits him 🤞🙏 The fabric is @robertkaufman herringbone Shetland flannel in the colour Olive which makes it more of a medium weight autumn/winter shirt and is so soft and almost fluffy on the inside 🥰 Buttons are 11mm from @merchantandmills in the colour Garden Slate. I added a little tab to one of the inside side seams for a spare button. I have been meaning to post these since receiving them months and months ago from @moxiestudiolisa haha. Today seems like a good day to share 🩷 My husband and I renewed our vows in May for our 10th wedding anniversary. He said he wanted to marry me again in front of our immediate family, and who could say no to that? 😍 I, of course, made all the things! My dress was a mash of 3 patterns: the bodice and ruffle sleeves were the Ruffled Top Sydney and Laced Up Constance Dress by @thisiskachi . The skirt is the Pirate Pencil Skirt by @patternsforpirates . The guys' shirts are the Fairfield Button Up Shirt by @threadtheorydesigns, and their ties are a free tie pattern by @treasurie . I created the quilted bunting from a cutter quilt as well as the "baby's breath" flowers in my bouquet. The bouquet and boutonniere were self designed. The last picture is a memorial chair I created in memory of my grandpa, my husband's cousin, and my stepmom, whom we miss dearly...the pictures of each of them were from our wedding day. It was a beautiful day, and I'm so grateful for my husband and our 2 sons. Bf's shirt: #fairfieldbuttonup by @threadtheorydesigns in linen viscose blend A month after the wedding, we finally took proper photos, I still get a bit self-conscious about taking photos in public, but my bf makes it so easy, I'm a lucky girl 🤭 Size S and I shortened the sleeves and bodice by 1,5". First time sewing men's apparel and mistakes were made 🤡. I was so careful when cutting all the pattern pieces, but the instruction said to cut on the wrong side of the fabric where this one looks the same on both and I ended up making the placket on the wrong side. I am still upset about it and I think it's overcomplicating it in the pattern 😠. Then cherry on top was making button holes on the wrong placket 🤡🤡🤡 (this one is on me unfortunately). I managed to save it, save the buttonholes down and add buttons on (last slide) and overall bf liked the final product. Was tun, wenn das Öffnen eines Stoffpäckchens fast zu einem innerfamiliären Zwist führt, weil die einen ein Kleid im ausgepackten neuen Schatz sehen und die anderen das ultimative Herrenhemd? Und der andere - sprich, das liebe Kind - dabei höchst geschickt sämtliche emotionale Register zieht? Genau. Man setzt sich als gute Mutter hin, spielt unter Einsatz sämtlicher Geduldsfäden mehrere Runden kreatives Schnittmustertetris und näht beides. Als Kompromiss wurde es ein kurzärmeliges Hemd - lange wären sich beim besten Willen aus den insgesamt 3m Stoff für Kleid und Hemd nicht ausgegangen. Und das passt auch wunderbar, denn die tolle Leinen-Baumwoll-Zusammensetzung des neuen Buffalokaros von @zuleeg_stoffe eignet sich genial für den Sommer. And the other - that is, the dear child - cleverly pulls out all the emotional stops? Exactly. You sit down as a good mother, play several rounds of creative pattern tetris using all your patience threads and sew both. As a compromise, it became a short-sleeved shirt. And that is fiercely loved, because the great linen-cotton blend of the new buffalo check from @zuleeg_stoffe is really brilliant for summer. Just in time for my youngest’s brief return to NZ did I find the linen shirt pieces I cut out in NZ first Covid Lockdown March 2020. I thought I had looked for it everywhere. Found it in a filebox named building consents! I would never have found it had I not been on a mission to do some serious sorting and clearing out while my wrist was broken. As the pattern was assembled and the fabric cut out it felt like the project was already nearly completed! This was my 5th Fairfield shirt and it sewed up like a dream! I was so happy to finally gift the #fairfieldbuttonupshirt from @threadtheory I had promised 5 years ago! Loses a lot of energy on running around trying to decide which dog to play with, ends up tired without any real play done. Also know as executive dysfunction. When he eyes up a fabric that I’ve had in my stash for a few years and not so subtly requests a new shirt 😅 I’d been saving this cotton viscose for the perfect garment - it’s perfectly lightweight but structured enough to hold a pleat or a collar - but as it turns out that garment wasn’t meant for me 😂 I used the @threadtheorydesigns #FairfieldButtonUp with all his standard fitting adjustments (lowered and lengthened collar, size large shoulder - medium hip) and just straightened off the curved hem. Two Me-Mades in one outfit. My husband has been pairing these two gifts together a lot since I gave him the hat for his birthday this year. (A little tradition we’ve had going ever since the first birthday we spent together.) I made him a hat for that first birthday and he’s worn it to death, so it was about time for another one. I picked up this gorgeous yarn from @oxfordyarnstore this summer (a lovely store with even lovelier staff) and knit this up almost completely while on our plane trip to visit our families in the US. It’s such a quick, easy knit with stunning results. The shirt was for last year’s birthday and it is the famous #fairfieldbuttonup made it super soft flannel shirting. As soon as the weather gets cooler, he reaches for this about twice a week and it still looks just as good as when I gifted it to him last year. I clearly need to make him another one soon. We got to visit the little community park and farm we got married yesterday, and I was finally able to grab a few shots of both together. I didn’t intentionally make the hat to match his shirt, but I couldn’t be more pleased that they go so well together. Our day trip to buffalo yielded many photos in front of brutalist architecture 🏢. There are no shortage of spots for photo shoots! This is my second fairfield button up from @threadtheorydesigns and I love it! I had thrifted this fabric which was giving me 70s vibes, hacked a big-a$$ collar onto it and it’s a look, if I do say so myself.
