Sayward Raglan
A versatile raglan t-shirt pattern with attractively curved raglan seams and a relaxed crew neckline. The sleeves are slim without clinging and the body has an average fit suitable for most figures. Choose between full length sleeves or short sleeves that end mid-bicep. The pattern can be sewn using a regular machine or serger.

Quilted+cozy clothes I previewed the #KitePants by @matchymatchysewingclub and made a quilted version. The pattern goes up to a 57 inch (145 cm) waist. I used the front pockets from View A and the back pockets from View B. I made a size M with no other mods. I quilted the fabric myself using leftovers/scraps from other projects. Since I didn't have enough length, the fabric is cut cross grain. If the colors look familiar, most of them are from a quilt I made several months back. Solids are linens gifted by @wearethefabricstore for previous ads and the gingham was purchased from @blackbirdfabrics a couple-ish years ago. I made this sweater about a year ago using a very modified #SaywardRaglan pattern with a jacquard cotton purchased from #MerchantAndMills

I made a #MMPaynter jacket. I was drawn by the hidden button placket and bellowed hip pockets - which were not constructed how I thought they would be! I used this wool blend that I've had in my stash for years. This fabric was originally from @WeAreTheFabricStore , but I purchased this yardage secondhand from @spaghetti_western_sewing . I slipped in a quick lining made from cotton sateen. The bottom lining is left free because I shortened it a bit too much 😬 My sweater is a highly modified #SaywardRaglan made from a jacquard woven cotton with matching ribbing. The fabric is also from @MerchantAndMills My jeans are rtw.

My makes for the month of October! A little late, but still want to post it because I love how it’s become a record of my progress. This month was actually quite productive! Part of that I have to attribute to getting some patterns printed at the print shop rather than taping them together myself. For me, nothing is a bigger hinderance to sew-jo than the prospect of spending an entire evening cutting and taping. I figured I’d treat myself this month and have a handful of my up-and-coming project patterns printed and give myself a leg-up on actually getting to some of them, haha! In order, we have: - A grim reaper robe (no pattern, just made using my son’s size as a guide. He even helped sew it!) - @helens__closet #blackwoodcardigan (post coming soon!) - Matching @fridaypatterncompany #pogonippullovers - A @threadtheorydesigns #saywardraglan in lovely organic cotton waffle for a gift for my uncle - A @truebias #nikkotop and matching beanie to make myself a Minion for Halloween (I bought this yellow jersey on discount ages ago from @galafabrics and this is finally the right use for it! 😝💛) - A @fridaypatterncompany #donnyshirt I have some exciting sewing plans for the month of November. Send your good sew-jo vibes so that I can pull them off for an exciting early December deadline! 🤞 #MyMakesForTheMonth #mymakesforthemonthoctober24

Ad. It's merino season. Fabrics used here were provided by @WeAreTheFabricStore in exchange for promotion and payment. I used #TheFabricStore 's ZQ merino in "Avocado" and "Vanilla" to make this long-sleeved raglan tee. I used the #SaywardRaglan pattern by Thread Theory (up to 50 inch or 127 cm chest). I also made this color blocked bag, pattern by @TytkaStudio . I used the colors Caper, Citrus, and Buttercream from The Fabric Store's linen range.

Yesterday was my honey's birthday! Summer is good, we have wedding anniversary, my birthday and then hers in close succession, but spread out enough that we get multiple (chocolate) cakes. We had lunch at @raggedPointInn, a perfect day trip since traffic is still light from road closures and a really wonderful culinary event (yes, crab was involved, chocolate was fabulous). I rarely get timing right, and even less sewing timing. But this year I scored big time! Not only did I get her birthday t-shirt done in time, I got it done right as Kamala Harris was announcing her candidacy. Every wearing brings her an avalanche of well-deserved "childless cat lady" compliments 🤣. So, for the sewers: #saywardraglan from @threadTheoryDesigns, exquisitely drafted. With @jSternDesign's really well thought out full belly adjustment, and some upper neck fullness shenenighans as well. In perfect Cat Lady fabric from @emerald_curtain_fabric on a delightfully light rayon lycra base with excellent recovery. Since Jane spends a lot of time in black uniform baking in her blazing hot light booth, it was meant as good theater attire. Just lucky it's also perfect for the next couple of anxious pre-electoral months. Also unmodeled #bunzies from @stitch_upon_a_time. Thanks also to my zoom-sewing bffs Fanchette and Cath, who reminded me that I didn't have to flop around buying iffy fabric online, since I'd been a tightwad in the way-back planning and was way short. I got a $2 black t-shirt at my local thrift store, completely unworn because of the stupid saying, and even used the original hem for the sleeve. The slighly heavier fabric works well as raglan sleeves, no untoward pulling. #loveIsLove 🌈 #sewOver50 #sewOver50August24 #sewQueer #curvySewing #sustainableSewing #handmadeWardrobe #centralCoastCalifornia #SLOCAL #SLO #shareSLO #visitSLO #SLOCAL

I'm part of #RubyStarMakers2024 for this calendar year. @RubyStarSociety will send me fabric periodically throughout the year in exchange for me making and sharing something. I made a self-drafted tote bag using a canvas from their "Dog Park" collection, to be released in April. It's lined with quilting cotton from the same collection, and I used leftover denim scraps for the handles and bottom. I've been exploring quilting these past few months, so I'm very excited for this opportunity - even though the first thing I made with RSS wasn't a quilt. 😅 My sweater is a modified #SaywardRaglan made from cotton jacquard purchased from #MerchantAndMills and my pants are rtw.

First time doing a raglan sleeve. Came together super fast! Didn't realize until finished, but it has a "relaxed crew neck" Also first time using a twin needle. Good stuff! Pattern = #saywardraglan by @threadtheorydesigns Fabric = cottonpoly jersey (navy blue)

First make of 2024! Was going to take proper photos but I looked so gay today that I wanted to post. Quilts are definitely work wear in my opinion. Sweatshirt was made of matching French terry and rubbing from #iseefabric using the #saywardraglan pattern from @threadtheorydesigns with modifications to add wrist and bottom ribbing. Perfectly completed with a matching @sarahhearts tag. Definitely struggled with the quilt block which does not bode well for my ongoing quilt project…

It just wouldn’t be Christmas without our Luxury Pyjama Bundles 🥰 We have added a new range of colours in our very popular Luxury Pyjama bundles, a choice of bright and cheerful colours to more neutral tones. These beautiful kits are a seasonal favourite and make the perfect gift, either to give to a sewist or to make some luxury pyjama’s for a loved one. Or even better… you can treat yourself to some cosy new pj’s! Featuring our double brushed flannel for extra warmth and comfort, you can choose between 2 colours of coordinating jersey or add both if you can’t decide ☺️ if you are after something a little more lightweight we have also added a kit with a Yarn Dyed Check Cotton (swipe to the end to see) These kits are ideal for making a pair of woven pyjama bottoms like the @tillybuttons Jaimie Pyjamas or @threadtheorydesigns Eastwood Pyjamas with a t-shirt or long sleeve top in the jersey. We recommend the @grainlinestudio Lark Tee or @threadtheorydesigns Sayward Raglan. These kits are not limited to pyjama’s though! They are also perfect for making cosy flannel shirts or shirt dresses with a jersey basic underneath. This is my entry into this months #magamsewalong, the theme for this month is nifty. How can a raglan sleeve t-shirt be nifty I hear you say! Well, I used a nifty thread called Maraflex which allowed me to sew this garment using a straight stitch on my sewing machine. Yes I do have an overlocker but it doesn’t like me very much, so I sew jersey on the machine. This t-shirt is @threadtheorydesigns #saywardraglan and it was lovely to sew up. The neckband looks like it’s not going to play nicely so I think I’ll be unpicking that and reducing its length by a cm or two. The garment is for Mr.V and he says he’s pleased with it, but is yet to wear it! On the subject of Maraflex, the jury is out as far as I’m concerned. I couldn’t get the thread tension right until eventually I turned the presser foot tension up by two, which solved the problem. I have a few more jersey garments planned and I’ll see how I get on with those. #magamniftynovember #isew #imakeclothes #sewingformen #threadtheorydesigns #sewingwithknittedfabrics @suestoney @sewing_in_spain @timetosew

My first #saywardraglan tee shirt for my lovely husband. I still need to top stitch the neckband, but he’s pleased with it. I love summers in this city. I made a rash guard from recycled nylon swim fabric that I purchased from @BlackBirdFabrics recent sale. It's a green base with pink flowers, but the pink doesn't translate well in these pics. I modified the #SaywardRaglan by adding a hood+brim. This pattern goes up to a 46.625 inch (118.3 cm) waist. I've made so many things with this pattern as a base, I think it's fair to call it a tried-and-true pattern (for me.) The hood is modified from the #TFSCloud hoodie. I lengthened the hood by two inches, but it still pulls the collar up a bit when it's on my head. The brim was traced from an existing hat, and stiffened with interfacing and a piece of cotton canvas. I simply sandwiched it between the hood layers, sewed, and understitched the seam allowance to the lining. #MeMade I had enough leftover fabric for a matching pair of swim briefs. The pattern is modified from the Mascultory Pouch Boxer Briefs on etsy, which goes up to a 44 inch (111.8 cm) waist. I left out the inner separating layer, reshaped the front pouch, added an extra layer of swim mesh to line the front pouch (the lining was cut on the fold to avoid having a center seam), added an inch of height to the waistband, and used an extra shoelace as a front waist tie. The extra height was unnecessary (I typically like bottoms sitting higher up on my waist), but I'm committed to the front tie so I won't be adjusting it.

A cute spring look. Started switching my cold+warm weather wardrobe this weekend, and I'm happy that I didn't put *everything* away. Nothing new to share, just some cold weather faves. My jacket is a cropped #TN31Parka in a jacquard/quilted cotton. Both my turtleneck and hoodie are modified #SaywardRaglan in fabrics previously gifted by #TheFabricStore . The turtleneck is made in their ZQ merino and the hoodie is made from their organic cotton. The hood and pocket pattern are taken from the #TFSCloud My pants are #SelfDrafted in a cotton corduroy.

A new merino for Cyrus too! I love how these two colors turned out together. We are ready for hikes/runs/&hanging out 🏔 ☀️ 🪑 TNT (for cyrus) #saywardraglan by @threadtheorydesigns in merino from @wearethefabricstore (purchased a couple years ago). Ad. Fall colors for (false?) spring. Fabrics used here were gifted by @WeAreTheFabricStore #TheFabricStore I used a printed stretch cotton twill to make this #SelfDrafted shirt-jacket. It has double pockets at the hip, obviously. The color reads brown in these photos, but it's more of a deep red. My hoodie is a modified #SaywardRaglan with the #TFSCloud hoodie and front pocket tacked on to it. I used Organic Cotton Sweatshirting fabric along with the matching rib knit in the color "Ochre." Big fan of "hoodie under a light jacket" in this weather but I'm wary that spring is really here. Knowing how the weather is, I wouldn't be surprised if we got one last snowstorm in April/May. My jeans are rtw. I made a matching pair of self-drafted sweatpants from the same fabric as the hoodie. Swipe to the end to see me falling in them.

🌸 My jacket is a #SelfDrafted quilted linen piece, lined with flannel. I made it last year for a previous ad with @WeAreTheFabricStore and I still haven't put buttons on it. I used a mix of cotton batting or wool batting because I was trying to use up all the batting I had at the time. My hoodie and turtleneck are both modified #SaywardRaglan and both are sewn from knits purchased from @BlackBirdFabrics . The hoodie is a cotton+poly+spandex blend and the turtleneck is a bamboo+spandex blend. #BlackBirdFabrics #BFKnits My pants are self drafted from a linen+cotton canvas, made with fabric that was also gifted by #TheFabricStore

@_donnyq swag on a thousand per usual. #dopemensew ・・・ PROJECT DETAILS 👇🏽 Enjoying some old (and new) stuff. I made this #SelfDrafted shirt from #NaniIro linen about two years ago, and the fabric has worn beautifully. It's so soft compared to recent linen makes. It's only been on my grid once before, but it feels like a warm weather staple considering how often I've worn it for a few summers now. My tshirt is new. It's a #SaywardRaglan made from a tencel+modal+spandex rib knit that I purchased from @CoreFabrics . I've made several rib knit layering pieces since I got more confident with sewing knits on my machine. They're such an easy way to add texture to an outfit. My pants are #PomonaPants from earlier this year (or late last year?) that I made with olive gingham linen that was previously gifted by #TheFabricStore

Ad. How I feel in brown: 😎 @WeAreTheFabricStore gifted me merino jersey as part of their brand ambassador program, and I made *another* turtleneck. The pattern is modified from the #SaywardRaglan . I lengthened the neckband until it was turtleneck length. I also added a couple inches to the body and arms. This is #TheFabricStore 's ZQ merino jersey in the color "Acorn." It's my 5th turtleneck in merino jersey (3rd one made with raglan sleeves). My hoodie is a #TFSCloud made with organic cotton sweatshirting and rib knit, gifted for a previous ad. Please don't mind the coffee stains, if you notice them. My coat is a #MMSeptember that I made last year, from a wool, nylon, and alpaca blend that I purchased from #TheFabricStore but has since sold out. This pattern goes up to a 48.5 inch (123.5 cm) waist. I recommend checking finished garment measurements for sizing. I made a size 8, but would be a size 12-14 based only on body measurements. Two sizes down and it's still oversized enough for me. I lengthened the coat below the back vent. The coat is lined with cotton flannel for warmth and heft. My pants are #SelfDrafted in cotton corduroy. I made them a few years ago. Easily a favorite pair of pants for cold weather.

It's cold, I'm cozy. Brought out my cropped #TN31Parka that I made a couple years ago. It's made from a #MerchantAndMills jacquard cotton and lined with cotton lawn. I still think the pockets are a little too small for my hands (that's what I get for not making a toile), but I've got plenty of pockets elsewhere. My shirt is made with my usual #SelfDrafted pattern from a Merchant and Mills brushed twill. It's a black, brown, and cream gingham. The hip pockets are double pockets, but I forgot to take pictures showing that off. I have a few tops with the same detail posted earlier on my grid (around July/August) if you're curious about what that looks like. Pockets and cuffs were cut on the bias for funsies. My turtleneck is a modified #SaywardRaglan made in bamboo+spandex rib knit that I purchased from @BlackBirdFabrics in the color "Ecru". I lengthened the arms and body by a couple inches. My jeans are rtw.

Ad. I made a #KaleidoscopeQuilt. Fabrics used here were gifted by @WeAreTheFabricStore I purchased this pattern from @warstowe which has a couple variations, but I chickened out and went for a standard block with straight edges. Some of the seams are very wonky so they're curved anyway. 🙃 This quilt is made of ~10 inch blocks. I used heavyweight linens in the colors "Vanilla," "Cream," "Chestnut," and "Vintage Blush", and midweight linens in "Buttercup" and "Celery." This quilt started off as a way to use up scraps along with some gifted fabric. I didn't have enough of the "Cream" color, and was luckily able to buy some extra from @maeve.makes . Even after that, I purchased more yardage, because I kept wanting a larger and larger quilt. This quilt is ~90x100 inches, so about queen sized. I started hand-quilting the topper to a layer of cotton batting and wide cotton flannel for the backing, but lacked stamina for the entire thing, so I switched to ditch-stitching. There's some puckering on the backing. Luckily, this is the kind of imperfection that I'll forget about. Edges are bias bound, which was finished with hand-stitching since I prefer the look. I was unsure about this project until I washed it. The texture is so fun! This is my first big quilt and I'm pleased overall. Definitely room for improvement, but I now have more confidence to try other quilting projects. My hoodie is made from an organic cotton sweatshirting with matching ribbing, also from #TheFabricStore . It's a modified #SaywardRaglan with the hood and pocket from the #TFSCloud tacked on. My jacket is made from gingham linen in the color "Vintage Blush" from a couple years ago. It's #SelfDrafted and quilted to cotton or wool batting - I think I was piecing in whatever batting scraps I had at the time. This jacket technically belongs to my roommate now but I borrowed it for the photo. My pants are rtw. shoutout to my roomies for holding up the quilt while I took pics.

I made a #MMPaynter jacket. I was drawn by the hidden button placket and bellowed hip pockets - which were not constructed how I thought they would be!

My boys 💙❤️🤍💙 . Two years ago I made matching shirts for the baby, the two year old, and dad (swipe to see them in July 2020). This year I made one more 4T shirt and they can all match again - the perks of unintentionally having a third boy with identical age spacing, all the matching sets can be passed down 😂 and their dad humors me with matching them on special occasions even though it’s maybe a little cheesy 🥰 . #PortlandSews #RaspberryCreekFabrics #BrindilleAndTwig #BrindilleAndTwigRaglanTee #ThreadTheory #SaywardRaglan

When we first layed our eyes on this Sumac Toucan Stretch Cotton Drill, this is exactly how we envisioned it being sewn up! Donny has made a smart self drafted shirt jacket in this special completely opaque, sturdy fabric. 🦜 @_donnyq also wears a hoodie comprised of the #SaywardRaglan and the #TFSCloud patterns, sewn in our Ochre Organic Cotton Sweatshirting and matching Rib! 🧡 #TheFabricStore #DeadstockFabric #MeMade

Missed last year's Halloween sew but we're ready for this one! Pattern is Thread Theory's Sayward raglan, which is turning into a solid TNT, great for this big shoulders/small bust shape. I'm also very happy with the @jsterndesigns "unisex shirt fitting: prominent tummy" adjustment. #sewOver50 #so50tnt #sewqueer #threadtheorydesigns #saywardraglan #jsterndesigns #pfgendermore #curvysewing #handmadewardrobe

Ad. Layers and layers of olive. Fabric used here was gifted by @WeAreTheFabricStore My duster is made from olive gingham linen. It is modified from my standard #SelfDrafted shirt pattern. Initially I was going to put on patch pockets at the hip, but I wanted a cleaner looking front so I made inseam pockets instead. I wanted lots of volume, so I added width to the back piece for pleats and volume (slide 5). I also extended the width along the side seams as I lengthened it. The back panel is nearly the entire width of the fabric at the bottom edge. My vest is also self-drafted from linen gingham with a larger scale. The linen is hand quilted to some wool batting using sashiko-inspired embroidery, and lined with cotton flannel. I referenced "The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook: Patterns, Projects and Inspirations" by Susan Briscoe and stuck with the simpler patterns. I had a lot of fun planning out where the different stitch patterns went. I'm wearing another #SaywardRaglan made with merino jersey, in the color "olive" also from #TheFabricStore . I lengthened the neckband into a turtleneck and extended the arms by 2 inches. The Sayward feels like my go-to for knit tops, considering how many I've made the past fewl months. My hat is the Alpine Knot Hat by Twig and Tale. It's made from scraps of merino jersey in the color "vanilla". I lengthened the ears on it for more floppiness. My pants were made a year ago from a linen+cotton blend, also self-drafted. Ad disclosure: I was provided fabric and payment in exchange for this post, as part of The Fabric Store's brand ambassador program.

My first #saywardraglan tee shirt for my lovely husband. I still need to top stitch the neckband, but he’s pleased with it. Cyrus is about 6ft - his sayward is a size medium but lengthened in the arms and body to the largest size. #threadtheorydesigns #makemenswear #handmadewardrobe #merinowool #sewing #sewistsofinstagram

_donnyq

Ad. *Another* raglan. Fabrics used here were gifted by @WeAreTheFabricStore in exchange for this post and payment. I made a cropped #MMSeptember (up to 69 inch or 175 cm waist) using organic linen in the color "Caper" and it's lined with cotton flannel, which is interlined to cotton batting for some heft. I added some hand stitching details for fun. My hoodie is a modified #SaywardRaglan(46.625 inch or 118.3 cm waist) made in organic cotton sweatshirting fabric, with matching ribbing. My tote bag is self-drafted, using upcycled cotton denim also from #TheFabricStore . The quilt detail is made using denim scraps I had. My pants are rtw.
