#2502 1925 Zig Zag Dress
A loose fitting, sleeveless pull over dress with a rounded or V-neck line. The shoulder seam falls forward on the Front Bodice with gathers instead of a bust dart. The eight-gore skirt has a pointed top creating a zig zag line at the hip where it attaches. Recommended for dress weight fabrics in the fiber of your choice.

Made this dress for a 1920’s themed ball. The main fabric is #africanwaxprint / #ankarafabric that my husband bought in Niger. It has a shiny print on the awesome quartz crystals in blue. The dress pattern is from #decadesofstylepatterns and is the #1925zigzagdress While I figured most would wear flapper fringe or heavy rhinestones, my pedantic side kicked in and I looked for something that involved poring over old patterns and drawings. I altered it by shortening the dress and adding a second layer of flouncy material at the original length to get some real movement out of the fabric. I also made a tape from the Ankara fabric to sew along the zig zag both to clean up the edges and highlight the waist. This time period doesn’t really work well for me since the drop waist style could also involve breast binding, which I wasn’t going to do and the sizing was based off breast size. If I pulled in the waist, this would have been more suited to my actual shape but I decided historical accuracy coincided with comfort (for once!) and stuck with it. Maybe floating around all the sparkle I looked like someone’s aunt/chaperone, but it’s the most comfortable I’ve ever felt at a special event. Even though my face looks a little weird in this picture, I think it shows the confidence I felt in successfully pulling off this look I imagined - combining the area of focus for my husband’s work and the theme of the night. Can we do 1940’s next? #sewing #1920sfashion #dropwaistdress

My latest sewing project definitely falls into the category of “how to look good while being comfortable during work from home”! It’s also my first real foray into 1920s styles...it hasn’t been my favourite fashion era, but I’m slowly coming around. This is the 1925 Zigzag dress from @decades_of_style, fabric is a cotton voile from @blackbirdfabrics that has been in my stash for an eternity. My only regret with the fabric choice is that the busy print hides a lot of the fun design details, so I got a couple of closeups while the dress was on my dress form. #1925zigzagdress #vancouversews #vancouvergarmentsewists #vintagestylenotvintagevalues #vintagestyle #vintagesewing

So much progress was made on my @decades_of_style 1925 zig zag dress at work today that I had to share here as well. 😍Fingers crossed I get the sleeves on and hemmed tomorrow so it's finished!🤞🏻#decadesofstyle #1925zigzagdress #1920s #flapper #missroyalvintage #gatsbystyle

The new sewing machine did actually cooperate with the whole "two layers of cotton in straight lines" thing (we're still getting to know each other) Skirt part of @decades_of_style's #1925ZigZagDress

We have a 1920’s themed event coming up and I have nothing like that to wear. I decided that I would lean into the simple 1920’s shape, but use outstanding fabrics to try to bring it to a fancier level. This is my #wearabletoile to see if I could execute the idea. This #1925zigzagdress from #decadesofstyle fit the bill. Directions on facing were not the best, so I’m glad I had a first try before the real one. I also put stiffer fabric at the bottom since the patterned fabric I plan to use is stiffer, but I think having something lighter and more flowy will both be more time accurate (even if the fabric print isn’t) and look fancier. Having the stiffer skirt makes it feel more tennis dress than dancing dress. So the stiffer fabric will be the body. This version uses a bedsheet and fabric I bought 20 years ago. I’m hoping I have time to do a cloche hat as well, but it’s coming up fast. #decadesofstylepatterns #1920sfashion #sewing #summerdress #learningbydoing #toile #wearablemuslin

BTW, there's a reason why very few sewing patterns contain the direction "topstitch skirt to bodice. Holy Gewumpel, Batman! #1925ZigZagDress

I’ve felt like my sew-jo has been seriously lacking this year, but looking back, it’s actually been a lot better than I thought. I'd love to highlight the gores of the #1925ZigZagDress, so I tried an ornamental stitch. Looks good, but at 8 gores with 1,5m edges, that's 12m of ornamental stitch /o\ And it's basically a wearable muslin anyway... I'm thinking about getting a fabric marker and drawing some fake topstitching along the edges...

The #1925ZigZagDress will be very... tall. I wonder what it will look like on stout little me? (apparently, "stout" was the 1920s word for plus-sized ^^)
