It’s pattern release day! It was fun being a pattern tester for these Decades of Style Peaks and Valleys Pants. I absolutely love them. So cute & comfy. They are easy-to-make pull-on pants designed for stretch wovens. Because of my long torso, I added an inch to the rise & got a good fit, even though my hips are two sizes larger than my waist. For my next pair (and there will be a next pair, soon!), I will probably do a full butt adjustment because these pull down a teensy bit at the back waist. But they still fit well as-is Also, I want to thank @decades_of_style for helping me get my sew-jo back after my cardiac arrest. (Lingering neurological stuff made sewing difficult.) I’m finally sharing my full length Peaks and Valleys pants from @decades_of_style, with some assistance from Chenille, of course!They’re made out of the 10 oz stretch denim from @blackbirdfabrics, using the wrong side of the fabric as contrast. For this version of the pattern I cut a size 20 with a slight full tummy adjustment, no other alterations. In terms of the fabric weight, the 10 oz denim is about as heavy as I’d want to go for these pants - I know it’ll soften up with wear and washing, but right now with the wide legs it feels a bit stiff and heavy. That’s a minor complaint, though, overall the pants are fantastic, especially now that it’s actually cool enough to be able to wear them, at least for the next day or two, and I love the contrast details. #PeaksAndValleysPants #DecadesOfStyle #BFDenim #VancouverSews #VancouverGarmentSewists

I was a tester for the new pattern from @decades_of_style - the Peaks and Valleys pants! This is my first make from the pattern…I decided to make the shorts view as a wearable muslin. I cut a straight size 20 and the fit is generally good, though I did make a couple of minor adjustments for the full-length pants. The pattern is designed for stretch wovens, and I used a rayon/poly/spandex blend from @dressew. The shorts come together really quickly, and even though I’m not really a shorts person I’ve practically been living in them since I finished them. Our Stonemountain & Daughter team recently completed another Spotlight, and we're looking forward to digging in and sharing even more info about the Lady McElroy fabrics our talented sewists chose!  For her project, Amy chose to work with Sovereign Stretch Twill in a sunny saffron yellow. Sovereign is a midweight cotton/tencel blend with a fine twill weave and just enough spandex to give it a bouncy stretch. It's a great fabric choice for the #DecadesOfStylePatterns #PeaksAndValleysPants. Amy sewed the pattern as written, adding a bit of length for an ankle-length hem. You can sew up a pair of these everyday, easy-wear pants in all one color, as Amy did, or select a contrasting shade for the lower leg panels. I didn’t intend to wear these two garments together but I think it works... #peaksandvalleyspants by @decades_of_style and #pscozijacket by @patternscout Both quite easy and straight forward makes. The fabric is a super soft but sturdy brushed cotton twill from @skroten_tyg The contrast pieces is the same fabric with the wrong side out. The rise of the pants is quite low, I had to add a little to the back instead of taking away front and back ad I usually do. I added a little to the length too. They are super comfortable, I’m so glad @sewsewlive made me notice the pattern! I added a nifty windshield inside the jacket zip, as I could see straight through the zip. As a bonus it acts as a zipper stop for my shortened zip. A great autumn jacket! #hillevihandmade #swedensews #sewover50 #memadeeveryday

The contrasting fabric that I used is a nonstretch lighteight denim though and I bet if I sized up a little I could get away with using a nonstretch main fabric as well. Overall, I’d say these are both very comfortable and look great. I took an inch out of the inseam and wish I’d added a tiny bit to the back rise because that’s the shape my body is. I also got rid of the back pockets. Now, watch it on that bench in those clogs!😬😬😬 Railroad stripe stretch denim and black lightweight denim from @boltfabricpdx

Finally get to post my Peaks and Valleys pants and shorts as it’s the pattern release day! These pants are super comfy (feel like wearing pjs as they are elastic waist) and you can have fun with patterns and colors. Plus roomy pockets which are a must. Only pattern modification was raising the back rise which is a standard thing I need to do on pants, and I didn’t adjust the inseam for my shorter legs so they hit me as full length pants rather than slightly cropped as intended.
