#BRAugust2021 day 16: Experimentation . At first I struggled to think of something for today, but then I realised I experiment and try new things all the time! One of my recent experiments was with applying my elastics and channeling externally, which I've seen a few other makers do with great success. I wanted to try it with a gothic arch, so the Berkeley bra from @orange_lingerie was a great candidate for the experiment! . The embroidered tulle was from AliExpress, and I loved the idea of pairing it with black to bring out the black lines in the embroidery and contrast with the soft pink tones. For the underwear, I started with the Betty panties by @sucobysusana, adding a crossover front detail to mimic the gothic arch of the bra. . I call this experiment a great success and look forward to incorporating this feature into more pieces in the future! . But I think one of the things I love about bra making is that the way they are constructed generally makes for fairly neat and pretty insides! Starting off 2023 with a brand new icy set for January! The Berkeley bra has been my favorite TNT for months now, and I wanted to try it out in stable tulle to see if that would work as well as the stretch lace for which it was designed—and it absolutely does! I made no changes to the pattern other than just slashing the cradle and using power net for the back wings, and the fit remains just as perfect. For the lining and notions, I used a bralette findings kit from BraBuilders in "Ink," to which I added matching sheer cup lining and power net. The bright pink pop of color in the underwire channeling is there for a fun surprise! I’m calling this the “strawberry crush” bra. Loosely based on the @orange_lingerie #berkeleybra it’s a sort of clone of a marks and Spencer bra that only comes in boring colours. It’s the start of Saturday Morning Bra Sewing season. This year I’m kicking it up a notch with matching (or coordinating) undies. These are two new to me patterns, the Berkeley Bra by Orange Lingerie and the Vera Panties by Studio Costura. They both were a bit of an experiment, the bra guts show the leftover findings I used. The stretch lace came from the Tailormade Shop. I cut this project out back in... like... April, but got sidetracked by leggings and my sequined dress and forgot about it. I found it a few weeks ago while tidying my sewing space and finished it up, though, so here is a very spring-y set right in time for Halloween 😛 Pattern: Berkeley Bra from @orange_lingerie with a split lower cup (in the lining only) to accommodate my projection at the wire line, and the MyFit undies from @apostrophe.patterns. Lace from @emeralderinsews and other fabrics and findings from @brabuilders, dyed to match by yours truly. . Stretch lace is always so comfortable so I bought both a bra and underwear kit from @emeralderinsews . I was going to make a Black Beauty that the kit was intended for but decided to try the @daydreampatterns #blossombra as it looks such a great shape. I’ve adjusted for lace over foam cups and continued the lace over the back band. Just love it. The fit is amazing. Obviously it had to be a #wednesdaycheekies for a set. Love the fit. I still had quite a bit of lace left so I decided to try and fit an Orange Lingerie Berkeley which is another very comfortable fit. Wanting another set I thought I could use another DayDream pattern called the #noraknicker. I had some copper mesh that worked well and brought in the copper straps to tie it all in. All fits beautifully and a great use of kits. A case of not everything is a success. Construction instructions are excellent. Sizing info is strange/wrong/idk? End result is pretty. Regardless, it’s not the right shape for me. Long story long: For the green version, I followed the sizing instructions (see last picture) and omitted the elastic on the upper cup because I needed 1 cup size bigger than the pattern goes and since it’s stretch lace I figured it can stretch to accommodate. The size 30 band (my measurement and RTW size) was ridiculously small. The bridge was also too wide for me (apparently always the case for me). For the purple version, I went up 2 band sizes to 34 (which would make sense if this uses the +4 method but that’s not what the instructions say) and narrowed the bridge and changed the back strap attachment. The band fits but the shape of the cups is all wrong … too wide and shallow .. going up a cup size might help the shallow but it’ll just be wider. So I’m calling it quits with this pattern, it’s just not right for me without more mods than I’m interested in doing. Good news is I found another pattern that I think will be a better fit. . #berkeleybra from @orange_lingerie. Stretch lace, powernet, findings, and plunge wire from @emeralderinsews. . #KMadeGoods

Made this for my sister but fit was off. A friend who was impressed at the idea of a homemade bra decided to try it on. We were thrilled to find that the cup and wire are a perfect fit. #braugust Hello my name is Angela and I’ve been obsessively sewing lingerie for around four years. Although I have a marketing degree I qualified as a chartered accountant but now looking forward to pursuing my many hobbies full time. My goal is to get as many people as I can to try making their own beautiful well fitting underwear. So when the #thegreatbrasewingbee asked me to present a class on recreating inspirational panty looks from commercially available patterns I thought it would be right up my street. Having finished recording the class I just had to make bras to match the four different styles I made up. This one is a t-shirt bra to match the no vpl I did for the class. I can’t replicate the moulded fabric shown in the centre picture but having the super soft and stretchy microlycra from @brabuilders is a great start. I used the @orange_lingerie #mysticbra and adjusted for a lace edge one piece side band from the #berkeleybra I also moved the strap adjustment to the back for a smoother front. If you are interested I’ve added the other classes I’m involved in as well as some detail on the event. This is the Berkeley bra from #orangelingerie made with lace and findings I'm pretty sure I bought from @nelliejoans a few years ago. Its a white lace backed with a pale pink stretch mesh and it's very pretty. Unfortunately it doesn't fit. Initially I thought it was just that the cups were too small (I already sister-size for a cup larger than what the pattern provides). But then I wore it and found after a couple of hours that I was profoundly uncomfortable. Orange lingerie bras seem to be designed to suit wide and shallow profiles. This is the opposite of me. This bra is so wide the straps are almost tucking into my armpits and the lateral point of the under wire is further back on my torso than they should be. I did have moderate success with the Davenport bra in 2022 so perhaps I won't give up on this designer just yet. I was disappointed that the #berkeleybra didn't work for me but probably I should have seen this coming. #sewinglingerie #Asiansewists #brisbanesews
