I successfully wore this bra all day without feeling uncomfortable, so I figured it deserved a spot on the grid. • Bra fitting has been quite the journey for me. For awhile, I have been convinced that underwire bras were not an option for my body type (flat chested, broad backed, wide set, etc) which is why I wanted to share this success. • This is the #lansdownebra from @orange_lingerie. Brace yourself for these pattern adjustments, folks. I removed 1/4” of cup volume from the outer cup. I added 1” of width to the bridge and added 1/2” height to the center front and 3/8” height to the underarm side of the outer cup to accommodate a 32 underwire (which I have found best fits my bust). I also took 1/2” off the cradle width to help adjust the band fit after adding so much to the bridge. I couldn’t be happier with the fit. It is comfortable with NO POKING from my underwire. • Lace is a stretch lace from @saltlakesewciety and this gorgeous color of tulle is from @emeralderinsews. Elastic and iridescent hardware also from my shop. I love this color and feel beautiful in this bra. The last time I posted a bra in Jan 2022, I decided that I wouldn't post any more unless I made some matching knickers. Well 20months later I've done it 😃🙂🙃😊 I actually made the #lansdownebra in Feb/March last year but the knickers were another story. I modified the #tillyandthebuttonsiris pattern and set to work, but the lycra fabric I'd bought for the back piece had a mind of its own. It refused to cooperate and eventually I threw it in a drawer 🤬🤬🤬🤬. I finally got fed up of wearing the bra without matching knickers and as I had finished all my other projects🤔🤔🤔 and the weather was so rubbish last weekend🌧🌧🌧I got them out again. I managed to tame🤺🤺🤺 the fabric this time by changing the tension, using tissue paper to stop it getting pulled into the machine and using lots of pins. This was a straight size test for the #lansdownebra from @orange_lingerie . I used a French dot material and left the bra unlined. I really like the shape of the cups. I need to go up a size on my next attempt, but the overall design of this bra fits my shape well. I did struggle to find a wide enough underwire to fit in the channeling, I'll either have to trim the ones I have or try to alter the pattern to accommodate my preferred wires. Adventures in bra-making, part 2. After friendly encouragement from @sewingchest (and my sister) I did make up the 32D as a starting point and it's not as completely off the mark as I expected, although the band is definitely too tight and if anything the cups are just a fraction small. It was a very quick and dirty version as I knew the fit would be off, but it was great for working out where the problem areas will be and where I need to slow down and be super tidy (not my strong points when sewing!) I'm not sure I love having the adjusters at the front - it's way more practical but not quite as aesthetically pleasing as having them at the back, but changing that might be a job for when I'm a bit more experienced... I subsequently made up the 36B as I had it cut anyway and it was also too small in the cups, so swithering now between a 36C or 34D as the next attempt at finding the goldilocks fit... I have the remnants of a migraine today, so I swapped my Saturday morning run + housework for a sewing session and a few episodes of Seachange. Now I have a bra that isn’t greyed (why do they all end up that colour…is it the nylon?). This is the #orangelingerie #lansdownebra

I actually made this set in March, but just not got around to photographing it. This is another Lansdowne Bra and Esme Panties set. I used navy power mesh for the back and nude lining for the cups, and I kind of wish I had used nude for the back mesh too, but I like okay as it is. The band in this one is a little tight. And I think I cut the cup lining incorrectly so the outer lace kind of puckers. It’s kind of the frustrating part of bra making. You can make a pattern multiple times and it works, but then will inexplicably NOT work one time, and there’s really no way to go back and fix it (bras are hard to take apart!). But this one fits enough and I’ll just wear it under heavier blouses so the fabric puckering doesn’t show. I gotta admit though, this kind of took the wind out of my bra making sails. Need to get back into it for sure!!! I have tons of beautiful lace! Oh and I think the lace and elastic came mostly from @surgefabricshop. . . This is my hacked @orange_lingerie Lansdowne bra and @evielaluve Honey panties for the #inspirejulychallenge pattern hack challenge week hosted by @themadcutters. I hacked the Lansdowne bra by: 1) converting it to a single piece darted cup; 2) lengthening the bridge piece; and 3) substituting the back band with strapping. #BRAugust2020 day 9: neon/pastel. I haven't actually sewn much in either, preferring bold and dark colours. However, I do have a neon project in the works (currently top secret as it's for a pattern test) and also recently finished this lovely pastel pink set! It's the @orange_lingerie Lansdowne bra and @ohhhlulu Claudia briefs in a light pink lace from @mintfroglace. The elastics are all dyed silver grey using a @dharmatradingco acid reactive dye. Guys, I just finished this bra last night and I am so proud of myself! Usually my sewing involves picking a commercial pattern, picking what fabric I'm going to make it out of, and sewing it up. My house is in absolute disarray at the moment because we're slowly redecorating our upstairs (where I work and sew 😭). But like everyone else on the internet I was inspired by #gbsb #greatbritishsewingbee the other week to turn my hand to bra-making and the pieces are so small that at least I can find space for the cutting! I'm *so* excited about the possibilities here - I find bra shopping so unbelievably stressful and if I can take the time to get the fit right then I might never have to do it again! I'm starting with the @orange_lingerie #lansdownebra as it's the closest shape I could find to my favourite RTW bra. The measurements put me at 32D (LOL NO) so I'm starting with 36B which is a more normal RTW size for me, and just have to accept that the first attempt will be more about learning the techniques than something that fits. Another version of the #lansdownebra this time I used powernet for the lower cup instead of bra tulle. This bra doesn't have projection in the lower cup, it's all concentrated in the center cup seam.

Creo que me enamoré de @sewnbyele en cuanto vi sus gráficos de #sewistdata2021. ¡A qué nivel de detalle llega! Y me dio por analizar mis costuras de 2021. Está claro que el año pasado fue EL AÑO DE LA ROPA INTERIOR. Con 5 #nixiebriefs, 2 #blackbeautybra, 2 #jordybralette y alguna cosa más, se me llenó el cajón. Y se vienen más sujetadores, estense atentos. Los vestidos, no podía ser menos, tuvieron también su gran trozo de tarta (aunque en 2019 fue un porcentaje aún mayor). #BRAugust2020 day 9: neon/pastel. I haven't actually sewn much in either, preferring bold and dark colours. However, I do have a neon project in the works (currently top secret as it's for a pattern test) and also recently finished this lovely pastel pink set! It's the @orange_lingerie Lansdowne bra and @ohhhlulu Claudia briefs in a light pink lace from @mintfroglace. The elastics are all dyed silver grey using a @dharmatradingco acid reactive dye. The triangle cutout feature at the back of the briefs was really just my lace not being wide enough, but shhhhh, no one needs to know! 😉 . Its been a little quiet here on the dress making front because I’ve been learning something new. I’m making underwear👙 and I must admit I am hooked. 😍 Now this is something I never thought I would ever make, but considering I am a difficult size when it comes to buying bras off the peg (I’m a 28dd) I thought why not give it a go. I decided as my first foray into bra making to go with @orange_lingerie Lansdowne pattern as I wanted a plunge bra with underwires (I know go hard or go home right), I also added the suggested extra foam padding too. The knickere are the Bella panties from @evielaluve . I was drawn to them as they are a lace knicker with no leg elastic. So I was intreaged to see how they would work and they are great and quick to sew. I had to make very few adjustments to the Lansdowne bra to get a good fit, but I did make the decision to work from my measurements and a bra I know already fits me well rather than using the chart given in her pattern. So I cut this at a 28 dd and it worked perfectly. But I did make a custom bridge as advised in Normas book which goes along side her patterns. I would strongly sudgest getting her accompanying book ‘Demystifying Bra Fitting and Construction’ to go along side the Lansdowne pattern. As they defiantly had all the extra hints and tips I needed to get a good finish. 🧵👙 So pleased with these and now I’ve got the lingerie making bug it’s onto something more vintage I feel. A 1950s strapless long line bra, self drafted suspender belt and a Merry Widow are on the cards next I feel. 👙 💋

I hacked the Lansdowne bra by: 1) converting it to a single piece darted cup; 2) lengthening the bridge piece; and 3) substituting the back band with strapping. #BRAugust2020 day 12: tropical/geometric. Don't let your eyes deceive you - this isn't a bikini, though it could almost be! Instead, this is just a tropical-feeling lingerie set, that makes me imagine holidaying in the Greek Islands. The bra is another @orange_lingerie Lansdowne bra, this one with foam cups - though I should probably size up if I use foam again as this came out a little small! The undies are another pair of @ohhhlulu Grace panties.
