Would you believe this is the first bra I've made all year? But I couldn't turn down the opportunity to give this brand new @brabuilders kit a go when Sue reached out to me over the summer. This bamboo print jersey and the lace are gorgeous! This month I’ve decided to go through my drawers and start using those little bits of fabric that I have saved claiming “yeah I can make something out of this” this is the #devonshirebra by @orange_lingerie when I initially sewed it the cups turned out rather big because of the depth of the scallop so not wanting to admit defeat and create less waste I unpicked it all and removed about 6mm from the bottom of the cup. WHAT DON’T YOU SEE IN THIS PICTURE? I was so proud of this #magnoliadress I made last Spring, but my enjoyment was marred by worry about the ugly KT tape I used instead of a bra. In a fit of mania this week, I decided to whip up a bra with the v-wire I bought last year for this purpose…and it worked!! You can’t see it! And while you can see the edges if you peer right down the front, it’s pretty enough that I don’t mind flashing someone 😂 Thanks to miniguinea for her inspiration and beautiful step-by-step instructions ❤️ Pattern started life as a #devonshirebra with lift provided by @lilypadesigns -style slings that go aaaaaalll the way around the cup. 🌹🖤 Romance Set 🖤🌹 . I feel like I didn't do this lace justice when I made the Cocktail Hour set but I still had plenty of lace leftover so I made a new bra using the #devonshirebra pattern (modified for plunge wires) with the addition of an external powerbar/sling. I took inspiration from @sewingdart's beautiful version and used neutral elastics and materials to allow the lace to shine and I am so much happier with how this set turned out 😁. . 👙 #BRAugust2023 👙 . As promised, here are the better pictures of my most recent make: The Devonshire bra! . I made a tester bra first, in my normal RTW size, which usually works better for me as a starting point than following the bust/under bust measurement (that always puts me in a larger cup size than I am). But every pattern company is different, and the cups on the tester bra turned out slightly too big. So I went a size down for the cups on this one, and it fitted perfectly! . I only did some minor pattern adjustments. I added a little bit to the back band, because I don't like a tight band (even though I know it offers better support and is technically how a bra is supposed to fit). And, I narrowed the bridge to as narrow as possible, because that’s my standard, go-to adjustment. . One thing that I really liked about this pattern is that the projection of the apex (sort of the direction your boobs are pointing) is more towards the front than what I often find in other standard patterns. That is an adjustment I often have to do myself (moving the apex 1-2cm towards the front), because I often find that it otherwise looks like my boobs are pointing sideways. I did not have to do that on this pattern 🥳 So, if that is a fitting issue you are struggling with too, then maybe this is the pattern for you. . The sewing process was pretty smooth, as the instructions on Orange lingerie patterns are always super clear. I made a last minute decision to add a little V-shape detail when attaching the strap in the back, just to add a bit of interest to an otherwise simple bra. . I am really happy with how it turned out. Its super comfortable and I’ve already been wearing it a lot ❤️ . . . So I will be taking it apart, redesign the top of the cups and give it another go. Although the lace is kind of fiddly and the white fabrics were hard to see on my white sewing machine, it wasn't too hard to sew it. After I wore my last #devonshirebra by @orange_lingerie and few times, I really wanted to make another one - because its really comfy and fits so great! . I wanted to finally try some of my tulle lace I ordered from China some months ago. I changed the vertical seam cup into a dart cup so I didn't have to cut up the lace. It worked so well 😍 . To finish this luxe set I made a matching #montgomerybrief also by @orange_lingerie . I love that it's possible to use smaller remnants of the unelastic lace and make it into a perfectly matching set by using the same powernet for the back as for the bra. . Housewarming presents have been gifted so I can finally post them here!! I got this lace and the matching elastics and findings last fall from @emeralderinsews for both sets and I’ve been saving them up for a special day! The bras are the #devonshirebra pattern from @orange_lingerie and the panties with the simple legs are modified #montgomerybrief also from Orange. The terrific panties are the #mariepanties by @evielaluve using sheer bra lining for the side ties. I didn’t have enough of this lace to do the backs in lace so I used a scuba from @fabriclandwest on the pink set, and swim lining from @discoveryfabrics on the white pair. Both sets are utterly delightful to wear and neither are even remotely practical. As it should be, right?

So I ended up making some changes. 😅 Decided to go back to the #devonshirebra cups that I altered back in '22 and tapered the height of the upper band down. Also attempted a pair of matching #frankiepanties.

I got to try a new technique! First time sewing a bra with the wire tape on the outside! To make it look a bit prettier I covered it in stretch satin, as seen on @evielaluve. I love the look of it, although, it's a bit weird to see the bra guts so empty 🤔😄 Originally, I wanted to keep the bra completely unlined, because I always really like that look when I see it. However, while the lace is stable, it does retain some mechanical stretch, and is quite delicate as well... So in the end I decided to line it, and I'm glad I did it. I think it will be much more durable this way... I was so happy to have some more of this beautiful, beautiful @emeralderinsews lace. Every time I look at it, I am amazed by how pretty it is. Still have some leftovers, so I hope to make something else in the future 🤞 For the undies I also wanted to try something new with the satin band... My #makenine challenge for 2024. I haven’t done this in a few years and as a result I’ve been pretty terrible at sewing things because they are pretty instead of because I need them. So here it goes (and apologies for the terrible drawings!): 1. A swimming costume - no idea which yet, maybe #mncottesloe? But this item is desperately needed, and I’m stopping myself buying one because I want to make one… yet 2 years later I’m still wearing my old maternity one to take my daughter swimming every week, only to spend half the class worrying I’ll expose myself. 2. A bra - I made @orange_lingerie #devonshirebra a few years ago and found it really comfy. Unfortunately post-baby it no longer fits, and I’ve struggled to find a comfortable bra that fits well commercially. 3. @deer_and_doe_patterns #ddbruyere I’ve had this on my “to make” list for about 3 years now. Time to get on and make it. 4. Jeans. Skinny jeans are out apparently so I should really get with the times. Planning on making #mndawn by @megannielsenpatterns. 5. I’ve already started by making a toile of the bodice with a FBA. Downside is that it has some sun damage to the fabric so might need to do some creative dyeing. 8. A shacket. I’ve been wanting to make one for the last 2 years. This year I will make one. 9. @french_poetry_ #pleiadesdress. I fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it. It’ll be perfect to wear to a wedding.

Made this set a while ago after spending too much time admiring @sofialuzonlingerie designs 🥺 this particular bra was inspired by the Ondina bra, I really liked the idea of overlaying different laces and the play with color and contrast! I still had this beautiful copper lace from @smallbobbins and I'm really happy with the result. Originally, there was only one overlay on the cup, but it created a bit of a weird look, so I decided to add another layer that reaches closer to the top of the cup, to give a more natural looking style line and also create a bit of a gradient. Not gonna lie, adding that additional layer of lace was so tedious, but worth it in my opinion! I keep seeing all these amazing @atelierbordelle designs and have been wanting to make something inspired by it. But wow I totally underestimated how much material all these strappy details take, so I had to keep it it bit simpler than I planned 🤯 Also, since I normally use 15 mm strap elastic I used that one, but now I wish I would've used 10 mm instead... well, next time! After I made the first bra for September, Sue wanted to know if I'd like to have another go with the lace to make something that really let the lace shine, and look how much it shines with a silk base! This kit is called 'Princessa', which is quite fitting for this bra fit for a princess. My favorite feature is the silk rouching on the straps. What's yours?
