Happy Saturday! I have decided to make Saturdays my Sewing for Self Day. I do a lot of sewing, crafting and creating for the shop and clients. However, there are SOOOOO MANY things I want to make for myself. I feel the need to schedule it in! So Saturday is going to be my day to do that. Today, I made myself undies! It only took me about an hour! Basically, in less time than it would take me to surf the Internet or scour the stores in non-covid times, I was able to make myself three pairs out of scrap knit fabric I found in my stash. I have been saving little bits and pieces of knit fabrics from other projects just for this purpose. This is an idea I got from the amazing ladies on @lovetosew.podcast in episode 162. [Deep inhale] This pair of #munroebriefs by Orange Lingerie is my first attempt at sewing underwear. I loved this fig-themed cotton jersey. Decided I needed to sew something sunny during the gloomy January days. This is my first time using a rigid lace. For patterns on this threesome set I picked the #clothhabit #harrietbra and the #orangelingerie #montgomerybriefs and #munroebriefs The elastics and strap I dyed with Rit to match this butterscotch yellow and charcoal black lace. I was a bit apprehensive about using the rigid lace in the Munroe brief front and back panels, but there was enough remaining stretch in the side panels to allow for a decent fit. I made 2 small mods by shortening the height of the Munroe to a hip hugger and cutting the lace in mirrored fashion with center front and back seams to showcase the lace scallops. Worked out in the end - yay!

It’s taken a while but finally back to full speed spurred on by some great new pattern releases this week. The first is the #orangelingerie #munroebriefs designed to match the #lexingtonbra I made a few weeks ago. Whipped up in a couple of hours last night. The hardest part was choosing the size to make. According to the chart I have size 0 hips but an 8 waist then further complicated by the fact the lace had to be cut against the stretch so it could be used (picture included). So I went with the 4 and just works by using the length of waist elastic for the 8. No side seams and a high waist make for a very flattering shape. Love the little touches such as ribbon over the join of the waist elastic. For a test make pretty fabulous and a very glamorous retro feel using @evielaluve lace. This is my January bra and panties set. For some reason pale blue and ivory always equate to January in my mind. The lingerie on the clothes line reminded me of a scene from a vintage 1955 Sophia Loren movie "Scandal in Sorrento" (YouTube her "Mambo Italiano" dance scene - a classic). I could envision her glamorously dressed hanging her lingerie out to dry in front of the weathered stone and wood door of her small rented home.
