Trying to clear a rather large backlog of sewing projects here. This Hannah dress by @victorypatterns has been cut out since October and thanks to half term, it's finally done! This is my first time sewing with double gauze and I'm not sure it's the ideal fabric for this pattern as the pattern requires super-precise sewing! I've found out that double gauze changes its shape a lot after cutting thanks to all those bumps and crinkles! 😂 This pattern is a complicated make which does involve a lot of fabric origami, and because of that, it's so much fun to sew! This double gauze fabric came from my very first @sewhayleyjane subscription box and I used the wrong side as a contrast for the cross-over back, hidden button placket and neck binding. I also used bias binding from another box to bind the arm holes. This is the second time I've made this pattern. I literally wore my first one until it fell apart. BUT The pivot point of how the pocket attaches to the side panels, yikes!! Quilting finished!!!! Super quick photos of the pinned-together #hexiecoat before David had to head back to work after lunch. We'll do a proper photoshoot (hopefully on location somewhere picturesque around Otepoti Dunedin) when the coat is totally finished, but for now I was just so excited to share the milestone! Pics 1-3 front, back and flash! Wearing a #so50reworn dress which is a hybrid of the #stylearcautumndress and #victorypatternshannahdress Pic 4 - the much considered pockets! I was careful to avoid quilting over the slit I had left in the patchwork but basted shut for quilting. After quilting I removed the basting and cut the batting and backing leaving a nice slit, which is just bound with pocket bag sewn in. Easy! Pic 5 - the left front, finished this morning. 801 pieces. Pic 6 - one day last week I spent a solid 10 hours quilting, getting to this point. That enabled me to calculate an estimate for the whole coat -187 hours for just the quilting! Piecing the hexies, then assembling them into garment pieces took way longer. Finally finished! I may be in love with this #hannahdress by the lovely @amywinwoodfashion who not only answered any questions I may have had within seconds during the testing period, but also saved me from multiple foolishnesses (Is that even a word? There was definitely more than one foolishness on my part, be it printing but just throwing out part of the waistband or attaching the bodice the wrong way round, but Amy saved me from all mistakes I could’ve made). When I saw the pattern and the fabric, I wanted to use green piping tape and get that Farm Rio feel and look, but I was a bit too anxious to try with a new pattern. I did use the green zipper though and now looking at it, I kinda wanna believe in my original idea and try again with the tape. The color combination is just divine 😍 Thanks for letting me test this pattern, Amy, it is amazing and the instructions are very clear and though out. I’m especially loving that it really is beautiful inside and out due to the lining. This is the @victorypatterns hannah dress. Such a smart and sophisticated dress design! It has easily become my favourite summer dress. I’m in between size 2 and 4 according to victory patterns size chart. After reading a couple of reviews, I have decided to make a size larger, size 6. It was a good call indeed. I also lengthened hem by 2”. Trying to clear a rather large backlog of sewing projects here. This Hannah dress by @victorypatterns has been cut out since October and thanks to half term, it's finally done! This is my first time sewing with double gauze and I'm not sure it's the ideal fabric for this pattern as the pattern requires super-precise sewing! I've found out that double gauze changes its shape a lot after cutting thanks to all those bumps and crinkles! 😂 This pattern is a complicated make which does involve a lot of fabric origami, and because of that, it's so much fun to sew! This double gauze fabric came from my very first @sewhayleyjane subscription box and I used the wrong side as a contrast for the cross-over back, hidden button placket and neck binding. I also used bias binding from another box to bind the arm holes. This is the second time I've made this pattern. I literally wore my first one until it fell apart. Fashion shoot in the sunflowers at @sultansanctuary which was way busier than past years when we’ve gone. I finished my dress at lunch time today (4th or 5th session for this project) and then bought, cut, and sewed mini’s while in a virtual meeting. That’s unusually fast for me. Maybe the fastest purchase-to-seen ever.
