Fairy meets cottage core 🧚‍♀️🌿🌸 Something about this outfit makes me feel light and airy, just like a fairy. I'm surprised at how much I'm loving the silhouette of a peplum top with a tiered skirt. The top is made out of a remnant piece from my stash and the skirt is a rework from a linen dress I made when I first starting sewing 3 years ago. Dolly is modelling my latest creation: Pattern: @victorypatterns - Sofia Fabric: @ohsewcraftyltd Threads & Shirring elastic: @guetermann_creativ_uk Tuition: @sewingbstapleford I have to admit, I had a mini meltdown in my sewing class with this one as I’d shirred a whole bodice panel only for the elastic to be too tight so had to re-cut and start again so I was waaaay behind! Pretty in pink 💕 Inspired by Brogan @the_crafty_pie from @britishsewingbee I had a go at shirring with this very feminine #sofiatop and #sofiadress pattern from @victorypatterns I used a gorgeous cotton woven gingham from @sewingandcraftsuperstore. Although you can see from pic 3 it didn’t go entirely smoothly I got there in the end. Getting my Valentine feels on. Modified Sofia top by #victorypatterns Modifications: 1. I cut out the bell sleeve strap and then reduced it by ~2 inch in width. I attached per instructions 2. I copied the puff sleeve onto a new piece of paper and then traced bell sleeve head over the elbow length sleeves..matching it. 3. Reduced the width of the bodice by 4 inches 4. Just finished the Sofia from #victorypatterns but this time I went with the dress. I made a few modifications on the sleeves so that my bra wouldn’t peek out. Fabric: some kind of crepe that my sister picked up for me in Panama. Size cut: 0 Modifications: 1. I cut out the bell sleeve strap and then reduced it by ~2 inch in width. Do you ever sew something just because you can’t get it out of your head until you do? Today it was the Sofia Dress by @victorypatterns - this was an experiment and I made a sacrifice to the fabric gods of some cheap flax linen blend I picked up for $5 a metre. Print placement fail - this fabric has a monotonous medium-size print repeat that made tactful placement impossible! However, such a fun sewing project. Love those shoulder straps, make the dress bra friendly and they don’t slide off. #sofiadress #victorypatterns #victorypatternssofia

Catching up on the blog with a few of my favourite summer sewing projects while my sewing time is taken up with making baby clothes ready for the arrival of my niece! First up this @victorypatterns Sofia Top sewn up in a lovely embroidered cotton gingham which I picked up from the @fabricgodmother stand at the Stitch Festival. I mashed together a few of the variations as I wanted to use the shoulder straps on this version but wasn’t a fan of the bell sleeve that came with it. Turns out the other sleeves gather into the armhole just fine. I also continued the shirring down an additional couple of inches to the marking for the crop top. I much prefer the shorter peplum and where the waistline hits now. Hey hey, happy Thanksgiving 💗 . . . This is the @victorypatterns #sofiadress in all its shirred glory. I am so so thankful to the sewists before me who tried this pattern and wrote about it. I was nervous to try shirring because I don’t want to troubleshoot tension issues with my machine. But I look up to so many of you who figured it out! I had to give it a try, and my @berninausa handled it fine! No issues other than the learning curve of sewing with elastic thread. I have to admit, I held up the fabric I was working with many times throughout the process and wondered if it could possibly fit over my body 😂 —shirring is magic! . . . Fabric is a ditzy floral rayon from @blackbirdfabrics — it gave me such 90’s vibes that I knew I had to use it for a silhouette like this. My only mod was lengthening the hem a couple inches. The pattern instructions were incredibly clear and helpful. I really appreciated the hand holding! As soon as the sun comes out, my mind goes to all the summer makes, cute blouses, flowery dresses, brighter colours. I had a ready to wear top, that I loved and I wanted to recreate it. The @victorypatterns Sofia was perfect. I used the crop top version, but lengthened it by a few inches. The bodice is completely shirred, which does take a while to do. I chose the elbow puff sleeves, which have 3 rows of shirring. I used the shoulder strap which comes with the bell sleeve option, to ensure my bra straps were covered. I attached it as per the instructions, but gathered the sleeve head of my sleeve to ensure it fitted. I also took an inch off the width of the shoulder strap. Fabric is a viscose from @cousette which I got in a destash from @rach_stitched_up The Victory patterns Sofia, has a heap of options, lots of different sleeves, blouse and dress versions. I am planning a dress version, but need a break from shirring first.
