Today, I want to piggyback on a post @johassler put up today about a recent ageist article promoting those stifling “rules” that tell women how to dress. How many articles have you read like “ how to dress 10 pounds thinner”or about “dressing your age” ? A lot of this kind of nonsense came from my mom and other women. Well seriously that is 🐂💩! So, here is a post of me breaking the rules. Bright Florals, Silly ankle socks, Loud color, Conversational prints with little cute animals, Muumuu styles, bright lipstick, granny glasses, obviously dyed hair, mixed prints, horizontal stripes, baggy over baggy, oversized, and trendy. I would not call my style “too young“ or “unflattering”. my style is bold, playful ,unconventional and expressive. So F you rules! Hi! Quick re-introduction: I’m Cris, I have sewn since I was 10 years old- making clothes for my Barbies. I love fashion and all it’s trends, vintage clothing and it’s history. I’ve had this #CrisWoodSewsWaterfall dress in my mind’s eye, just waiting for the right fabric combination to come along. These viscose fabrics from @merchantandmills are a color match made in heaven! 🥰. The dress is half and half on both sides, with a thinner belt than the pattern calls for. Hacking my own patterns again! This is is a mix and match of the Dewdrop tunic and the Waterfall Gown. I removed the elastic from the Dewdrop, and added the placement of the Waterfall’s belt openings only in the front – and the belt, of course. I gotta say, I’m pretty in love with this dress.💗 The fabric is viscose from @stonemountainfabric purchased a year ago. I recently made a #criswoodsewswaterfall with a fabric from my stash. I didn't have enough to make it as wide as @criswoodsews recommends in the design instructions but I really felt this slightly see-through blue cotton from @dubai.centre would make a perfect waterfall. I really love how it came out, so much so that I nearly decided it didn't even need a belt (swipe to see it without a belt). I went with a belt in the end because my family called it a sack-dress. I think I like sack-dresses personally. This weekend I made 2 (TWO!!!) new dresses using @criswoodsews no-waste, no-paper patterns. I am a slow sewer, I take many, many breaks at every stage, and yet… 2 new dresses that are seasonally and weather appropriate!
