#memademay2023 day 12 & 13 Me in my natural habitat of a completely messy space😭🥴 I skipped day 11 and almost forgot day 12 aswell as I had some unforeseen work coming in that needed immediate action (for those who are interested: panicking artist just before her exhibition opening in a very damp exhibition space) so I dropped everything, even the kids hahaha, to attend to those artworks. Anyway, today is weekend and I can do my homework 😄 Yesterday I was wearing my beloved first version of the #criswoodsewsdaydream by @criswoodsews in a green mystery fabric that was given to me a long time ago. I can't tell you how much I love her zero or near zero waste patterns, it's a joy to make and wear them and I love the size inclusivity - you use your own measurements to calculate the pattern pieces. Spent the last week in the UK for my brother’s destination wedding and I made the Daydream dress (@criswoodsews) for it! It’s meant to be an oversized pattern to begin with, so I should’ve taken my exact measurements or decreased them for a more fitted look (totally forgot about this and sized up without thinking!). I added an elastic waistband to cinch in the dress a bit, which thankfully I had enough on hand from my last Joann run 😆 I might redo the elastic to pull it in a little more or could make them separates now? I might wear them more as a top/skirt situation. But the oversized look is growing on me and adds to the overall dreamy vibe. I finished my #criswoodsewsdaydream dress a couple of weeks ago but didn't get around to taking a photo 'til today. It is a voluminous floaty dress, particularly as I sewed it from organic cotton double gauze (from @themakehousecoop) that I had in my stash for ages! Made some modifications to the bodice for my shorter torso and had @giraffasews cut me a high-low hem. (She just takes out a rotary cutter and freestyles the shape 🫣!) This dress is great for such a lovely spring day as this! I was so shocked I couldn’t even roll out from under the table to confront her. Fair is fair - she did an acceptable job reading to your class for #bookweek2023, endured endless interruptions, and tolerated grubby fingers pulling at her hem… BUT her posture was absolutely shocking (I am NOT a bendy crayon 😒) AND I did not appreciate her Pantone-spouting PERIWINKLE! LILAC!LAVENDER! AMETHYST! PLUM! HELIOTROPE! when the educator asked her what colour she was sporting. Like anyone cares the other fifty shades of purple exist. PURPLE IS PURPLE. Anyway, at least you are colouring me quite well within the lines, and letting me upstage yellow and orange as the sun sometimes 😌 Your very neat (but VIOLETLY outraged) friend, The ONE AND ONLY Purple Crayon Cotton fabric from deep stash (two rectangles sewn at the shoulder seam and a neckline), and the beanie was a lucky op shop find. My first zero waste top! This is the #criswoodsewsdaydream top. I was initially intimidated by the concept because it required that you draft the pattern pieces that you use. But it’s super easy! For those of you that are newbies to the concept like me, the process isn’t complicated. The pattern pieces are basically squares and rectangles that you draft based on your own measurements. And because the pieces are such basic shapes, you don’t waste fabric. For my top, I used linen twill that I found at @boltfabricpdx in a rust color that is even better in person. This was originally a midi dress, but I decided I would probably wear it more as a top. And I was right! This little top was “self drafted”, using a few of my patterns. The square neck of the Daydream is turned 90 degrees to become a diamond shape, the Casita yoke is lowered slightly and the lower portion gathered on both sides. The sleeve is the Parasol sleeve with elastic at the hem. ☺️👍🏼 If you have a few of my patterns, feel free to combine them!
