A few weeks ago I celebrated my 40th birthday, and I decided I wanted to make myself something sort of frivolous to mark the occasion. Enter this top, which is girly and ruffly and outside of my usual comfort zone, but I like it a lot. I put it on today to take photos...will I ever wear it out of the house? I'm not sure! I know it's a very reasonable garment and I could of course wear it out and about but I'm just not sure I WILL, which is why it's frivolous. The pattern is the the #blpflor, but I modified it quite a bit, most obviously by trimming the ruffle so it doesn't go all the way down the front princess seam. I tried it as intended at first, but I just felt like I have enough curviness there already. Speaking of, I have a real love/hate relationship with wrap shirts and dresses. Anyone else? I love them in theory but always find them so difficult to fit. I got this one to work in the end, but it was a struggle! Anyway, I wanted to make something that was a bit new and different for me, something that made me feel pretty, and this does that, so I like it! I have admired the #blpflor dress for a while, and when I saw @blackbirdfabrics washed cotton poplin, described as being perfect for voluminous dresses, I knew I had a winner! Blackbird describes this fabric as holding gathers and ruffles beautifully. I’d say they were spot on! I chose a size 14 based on my bust and hip measurements, and made no modifications other than omitting the bottom ruffle. I thought a third ruffle would be too much for me, so I extended the dress by the length of the ruffle instead. There’s a small amount of gaping at the neckline, which bothered me at first but less as I wear it. As a small busted lady, I honestly need to start taking in the neckline at the shoulders on every wrap dress I make prior to even starting. This pattern was easy to make, thanks to thorough and detailed instructions. I made this #blpflor by @bellalovespatterns in the depths of winter and it’s been patiently hanging in my sewing room waiting for it’s time The pattern ranges from a bust 80cm/31.5” to 113cm/44.5”. It has three cup size options and is drafted for 5’4”. Based on my measurements I made a size 14 with a C cup. The only change I needed to make was scooping a little fullness out of the upper bust above the bust line but the princess seams make that super easy to do. 🍭Flor🍭 Nu de zomer nog in de herkansing gaat, kon ik het niet laten om nog met deze stof aan de slag te gaan 😁. Ik heb heus niet perse nog een jurkje nodig hoor, maar deze stof ligt me al de hele zomer aan te kijken en ik kon het niet langer aanzien 😁. Het model had ik al in mijn hoofd toen ik de stof kocht, maar een bijpassend patroon vinden, was een uitdaging. Vooral ook omdat ik eigenlijk niet onnodig geld wilde aangeven aan iets dat ik al ongeveer hetzelfde in mijn collectie had. En inderdaad; ik heb gewoon een patroon gebruikt wat ik al had 🙌. Ik liet de ruffles weg, voegde een dubbele vlinder mouw toe en verkortte de rok 20 cm. Wat mij betreft een tijdloos model, dat je zowel netjes als casual kunt dragen. 🎀✨ Party dress ✨🎀 Absolutely love everything about this pattern. The wrap, frill, ruffle and bow details make it feel so special especially in this gorgeous seersucker gingham… and to top it all off it has pockets! Perfect to dress up for a special occasion like my Mum’s surprise 60th birthday party! I printed a B cup because my measurements fit into the 2” difference between high and full bust category. Once printed and stuck together I cut out a size 14 because even though my hip measurements are slightly larger, the style of skirt fitted perfectly in a 14 when I made my toile. The only other adjustments I made were adding 0.5” onto the bodice length and 3.5” onto the skirt length. 💕 Loved making this #blpflor dress by @bellalovespatterns - so many ruffles! As someone who doesn't find sleeveless things flattering on me, the ruffles provide the perfect amount of cover while still being perfect for hot weather. I made a size 8 in a C cup and it's the first wrap dress I've made that sits closely to my chest (so no wardrobe malfunctions!) I'll definitely be making another! Only thing I will change is making the armholes a bit deeper so it's even more suited for hot weather. 🍂My first autumnal outfit this year. I loved wearing this outfit, it felt seasonal and cosy but still colourful. The skirt is actually a dress; one I made 2 years ago. I absolutely love it, the fabric, the style etc but it never felt quite like 'me' whenever I wore it and just looked odd. So, I finally pulled it out my wardrobe and put it on my alterations rail. I wanted to do something small to it so that I could wear it (add sleeves to balance it out, maybe remove the frill?). Anyway... On this morning I thought I would give it one last whirl to try and style it before the chop and BAM 😍 Loved it. I am actually covering the best bit of the dress under the jumper, but still loved it as a skirt. Sharing some photos of the day out. We went to Thomas Hardy's house (National Trust). Ventured out of the fog and took the opportunity to wear one of my fave summer dresses 🩷 I think I made this dress 2 years ago now. I’ve seen lots of discourse on the interwebz recently about longevity of clothes and rewearing them. I know those of us who make our clothes definitely have a different relationship with our wardrobes than those who buy their clothes, but I truly don’t understand the desire to never rewear clothes, or that it would be a faux pas to be seen twice in the same outfit. When I love a garment, I LOVE it, and I want to wear it for the rest of my life! Tie dye lounge set…nah I didn’t do the dying, though I wish I did. Made from #blpinterstellar sweatshirt and #blpluna joggers but made them shorts instead. The knit is super soft and thin which kinda works for sitting around at home. For the #blpluna joggers…I really love how the pockets are done here and have used the technique for every pocket install after this. It’s really good.
