The Fran blazer, without a doubt the most involved project I've sewn so far. If you've been following on, you'll know that out of necessity I've also made it in only two days as I needed to finish it for an event. Looking back I really wish I had more time for this make. I especially rushed the setting in of the sleeves which resulted in slight gathering at the back 🥲 - I might actually try and dedicate some time to redoing this step. I am a huge fan of remaking trusted patterns, that have techniques I already know and can execute well. This pattern is the complete opposite but omg did I enjoy it. I learned so much and I am tempted to sew all of Bella's patterns. She so clearly knows her craft and makes it accessible for home, amateur sewists such as moi🙋‍♀️. The pattern instructions have 78 pages!!! Full of very detailed pictures, holding your hand through fitting, applying layers and layers of interfacing and bias tapes, hand basting and so much more. I've been trying to little by little define my style and so far I know that I can't go wrong with simple basics and casual tailoring. Both of which I enjoy wearing, styling as well as sewing. [Werbung] Fran Well, that took forever! I started preparing my #franblazer at the end of last year, slowly but surely prepared all the pattern pieces, interfaced what needed interfacing (which was a lot), and started sewing, basting, handstiching etc etc. I guess it is the most time-consuming as well as professional sewing project I have finished so far, at the same time it was so satisfying seeing this blazer turn out the way it did. The instructions by Bella @bellalovespatterns are simply spot-on, I believe anyone who speaks English is able to make a blazer just like it! Speaking numbers, I made size 8 for hight 170cm according to size chart and love the fit. I used a wonderful Italian wool from @maries_kit_fabrics and also used it for my selfdrafted mini skirt. The fabric was kindly gifted to me, thank you Marina ❤️. #blpfran , du warst ein Mammutprojekt. 78 Seiten Anleitung, schon nach dem Aufbügeln der unterschiedlichen Einlagen hätte ich kurz heulen können! Sobald es dann aber ans Nähen ging, habe ich es genossen und Schritt für Schritt diesen Blazer gemacht. All das Aufzeichnen, Heften und Handnähen haben mich richtig entschleunigt, ich habe viel Neues gelernt, musste bei der perfekten Anleitung von @bellalovespatterns aber eigentlich nie groß mitdenken. This baby is a love letter to good patterns, good fabric, and good notions. @bellalovespatterns RULES, her instructions are impeccable and you truly can't fail if you follow them. She's also one of the few out there getting us advanced patterns and I eagerly await every new pattern she puts out! This whole project start to finish took about two months of minutes snatched from nights, naps, and weekends. Swipe for a more realistic look at life lately 😉. Pattern: #blpfran by @bellalovespatterns Fabric: herringbone cotton suiting from @lyricalfabrics Notions: @biasbespoke Mods: various fit adjustments for a narrow shoulder / narrow back. Sizing is generous and I have a petite frame so I went with a size down and it still feels perfectly oversized.

Pågående syprosjekt. Når jeg sydde meg det matchende todelte settet i sommer, har jeg fantasert om en blazer i samme stoff. Jeg sjekket ut litt forskjellige mønstre, og endte opp med Fran Blazer av @bellalovespatterns. Den har flere elementer jeg ikke har vært borte i før, som lommer med flapp og passepoile, ermefisk og skulderputer. Jeg sydde først en enkel toile for å se an størrelsen, og jeg endte opp med en ren str 12 uten noen modifikasjoner. Den er stivet opp med en hel del vliselin, men jeg vurderer å forsterke skulder/ øverste del av forstykkene litt ekstra med et lag hestehårskanvas hvis det lar seg gjøre på dette stadiet i prosessen. Stoffet er tromlet lin fra @merchantandmills kjøpt hos @indigoindigo.no. Jeg gikk til innkjøp av jakkestoffet i etterkant av vest og bukse prosjektet mitt, og det er en anelse mørkere per nå. Det er virkelig et stort og tidkrevende prosjekt for meg, men jeg elsker den sakte prosessen og jeg lærer mange nye teknikker underveis. Dette håper jeg blir et plagg som blir værende i garderoben min i lang, lang tid. Work in progress. No, this is not a menswear ad for petite people — it’s me and my #blpfran blazer photographed and ready to be worn in the wild!!!! I’ve been wanting to sew a blazer for a while, and finally took the plunge with Fran from @bellalovespatterns (unfortunately the size range is not very inclusive with a max hip 46 3/4”) back in the fall. The cut was exactly what I had in mind — menswear inspired with a slightly oversized fit. AND the instructions for this pattern are SO DETAILED!! I’ve only ever made one lined coat before, so the step by mini step instructions were super helpful. I’m not usually a fan of photo instructions, but the depth of detail totally made up for the lack of drawings. By detailed, I mean 75 pages, plus a fitting guide. My measurements put me between a size 6 and an 8, and I went with the 6 based on the shoulder measurements. I knew I wanted the sleeve to sit at the very edge of my shoulder and not much further. I didn’t modify the pattern at all except for shortening the sleeves by 1/2” or so. For my next one, I will probably shorten the overall length of the jacket by 1.5” so it ends at my crotch. I purchased 3m of the fabric 2 years ago on sale at @rolypolygesa It’s a cotton/wool/polyester blend, and was relatively easy to work with. The notions are from @oraghaus of course — always the best service and advice!! Gathering notions for a jacket is a project in and of itself, but the fine staff at Orag have never let me down. I did encounter a few issues along the way, the first of which being the interfacing. You can see on some of the pictures that it some bubbling occurred. I’m not really sure why it happened — was it the fabric? Did I not press hard/long enough? I might try pre shrinking the interfacing next time… The next problem zone was the lining — iykyk. I would like to master that step at some point, but not this time. All in all I’m very pleased and am looking forward to making all my ‘retired man waiting at a bus stop’ looks come to life.

🔥THE CORSET🔥 A complete experiment which surprised me so much. I was looking for a perfect pattern for a while already, reviewing several options & every time there was something I didn’t like or wanted to add to the pdf patterns. So one day I decided to check how to make a corset pattern from scratch 😃 Few Youtube videos later I was already drafting my own pattern 😄 I wasn’t sure if it’s going to work, I thought if the 1st toile doesn’t look nice than I just go for a pdf pattern. I had the Fran Blazer from @bellalovespatterns on my ToSew List for a while, in fact I already cut it out of fantastic Italian herringbone wool just in time to notice… that the summer came. So spontaneously I went through my stash last weekend and cut another Fran Blazer out of heavyweight almond linen that I got from Blackbird Fabrics a year or two ago. It was exactly the kind of oversized summer jacket that I planned to make out of it and I definitely need something like this to wear in the morning or generally speaking in the office. Dear Bella, I know you didn’t recommend making this jacket in linen, but I ignored that line in the instructions and just went for it😅 I haven’t made Bella‘s patterns before and I must say the instructions and the attention to detail are fantastic😻I am definitely waiting for her to release the tweed jacket pattern, I already bought the fabric for it. As for this one: this is size 10 with no modifications and I absolutely love it. Planning to wear it with a pair of light blue jean shorts (still to be made) that are a little longer than these True Bias Dani Shorts, although I like this outfit with the Zoey Tank for going out on a summer evening. I also added a stripe of yellow silk piping for a touch of color (swipe to see). If the smug face alone isn’t enough to tell you I am so ridiculously proud of this jacket, you wouldn’t believe. This was a loooong time coming. I bought the fabric in London in April 2021 and the pattern in October. After that, the jacket got put on hold while I sewed up my wedding dresses, bought a new house, moved house and got married. I picked it up again in October, and finished it last night (28.12.23). It’s a straight size 8, no mods. I’m between and 8 and 10, but the ease meant a size 8 fits perfectly, even with winter layers. This pattern is no joke (75 pages of detailed instructions) but it’s worth the effort! I made a slight mistake when sewing up the welt pockets which is only down to me being sloppy when reading the instructions, so the welt opening is a bit bigger than it should be. Luckily no one can tell because of the flap. Speaking of flap: I embroidered the inside of the flap with my n ew initials, and also added a quote by my grandmother to the neck facing 😆😂 «Brændi & Marriekjeks» (if you know, you know). I love it! I bought this fabric in a wonderful textile shop in London in April 2021, and it has been lying in my stash ever since (moved house with me twice as well). I have been building up the courage and waiting for the right time to sew the @bellalovespatterns #blpfran blazer, which is finally underway! I am meticulously working my way through the 70-odd pages of instructions, and I’m currently stuck somewhere between the upper and the lower welt on the pockets, BUT in the meanwhile I managed ti squeeze this skirt out of the few remnants I had left. I had to forgo the waistband, and chose a side zipper just because I find it easier to get dressed with a side zip 😁 I really wanted a matching skirt to my blazer and I’m so happy I managed it by joining some pieces together in the back, hardly noticeable thanks to this great pattern. Speaking of pattern: very very happy with the pattern matched pocket 😎 I have hopes of replacing the zip with an invisible zip in the future, but this is what I had in my stash. #blpdulce

Stoffet er 260gr ufarget tromlet lin fra @merchantandmills som jeg har kjøpt hos @indigoindigo.no. Fórstoffet er en blanding av lin og viskose som jeg har kjøpt hos min lokale @garnogsybutikken. Jeg syntes det er vanskelig å finne riktig fór, jeg liker det ikke for glatt, det må være tykt nok til at ikke sømrommet sees igjennom, ikke være syntetisk, og det må ikke lage ekkel lyd🙈 Blazeren har tatt meg godt over 30 timer å lage, da regnet med klipping, påstryking av vliselin med et vanlig strykejern, og søm. Den er sydd i en ren str 12 uten modifikasjoner, og den har både ermefisk, skulderputer slik som beskrevet i mønsteret🌾 My Fran Blazer by @bellalovespatterns is done! Made in 260gr linen from @merchantandmills. I made size 12 without modifications.
