Rupert Double-Faced Coat
Rupert is an unlined hip-length coat with a scarf permanently attached to the neckline. This pattern was designed to work with double face splittable coating fabrics. It features a loose-fitting straight cut with a dropped shoulder line, one-piece sleeve, front neck darts, front patch pockets, side seam slits and a single breasted closure at the centre front. The scarf has a centre back seam.

Final winter project finished: the Rupert coat (@bellalovespatterns) made in super soft cashmere/ wool double face (bought @bara_studio). Most of the preparation and sewing is done by hand for invisible seams, which was exhausting for my hands and wrists but was so worth it! I made no modifications in the design, I think it’s perfect and the fit forgiving. A timeless piece 🤎 #blprupert

🧥Double face fully reversible Rupert scarf coat With multiple style options! 🧥Swipe to see the other coat views! Y’all I am so excited that I don’t know where to start! I swear I am so in love with this coat! I know I say that often, but when I started sewing the #blprupert by @bellalovespatterns I could never imagine it could turn out so good! As you might remember last year I took the double face #mulberrycoat course by @thepatternline where I was taught the double face techniques and applied them on the mulberry coat (on the grid). I became so hooked with this slow making process that immediately after finishing it, I started imagining and planning my next double face projects. At that time Bella released the Rupert pattern, which I fell for immediately. I had already bought this beautiful plaid/beige double face wool from @thefabricsales with another pattern in mind, but eventually landed on the Rupert. It’s a simple oversized coat pattern with plenty of ease and I like the fit a lot! It’s also the perfect length for everyday wear. Construction wise, I didn’t really follow the instructions because I was already familiar and more at ease with the techniques I know (and have successfully applied) from @thepatternline course. But they seem very detailed! I made a few modifications to the pattern in order to adapt it to the course techniques and these involved mostly reducing the seam allowance, a different technique for sewing the dart really flat and other extra steps for reinforcing certain areas and ensure even edges. I made it reversible by sewing buttons on both sides, but the plaid side doesn’t have pockets on the outside because the area was too bulky, but it has a wonderful front pattern matching, doesn’t it?😅😅 Worn with my tnt @daughterjudypatterns #brierpant Which one is your favorite look of the coat? #doublefacewool #doublefacedcoat #luxuryessentials #plaidcoat #reversiblecoat #sewingcourse #doublefacecoat #slowfashion #handstitching #greecesews #millenialsewing #thanksimadeit #sewing #handmadewardrobe #sewinglife #sewistsofinstagram #sewingpatterns

Well here it finally is! This coat pattern caught my eye as soon as it was released and I bought it before I realized just how much work would be involved lol. But, over two months and countless hours spent hand sewing was totally worth it for how much I love the end result!! . . . This is the @bellalovespatterns #blprupert and it utilizes a specific type of bonded fabric for construction, so if you want to make this you have to use a specific fabric type (pattern gives good suggestions). It’s a fairly simple coat pattern on its face but what I didn’t realize was that like 95% of this is a hand sewn pattern. If you don’t like hand sewing or if it is hard for you for whatever reason, would not recommend. Otherwise it was a very good challenge for me to do something I haven’t done before. . . . I used a wool blend double cloth coating from @moodfabrics that is olive green on one side and charcoal gray on the other. Worked perfectly for the project, but it was labor intensive pulling apart the bonding and cleaning up all the little strings. It’s a truly beautiful color and not super heavy weight so that made it easier to work with. I’m glad I went with such classic colors because I don’t think I will be able to make another one haha. . . . So after all the work, I did make one heartbreaking mistake at the very end. I basically sewed the scarf on the wrong way (I sewed right sides together when attaching scarf to coat without thinking. And when I finally realized I did it wrong, it was already all done and there was no way I was taking it apart at that point. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️But honestly I still think it works great and I can finagle the scarf to either show olive or gray really, it’s just not exactly how it was supposed to be. I have totally made peace with it though and am very proud of the final product! . . . #bellalovespatterns #rupertcoat #moodfabrics #thankyoumood #memadeeveryday #handmadewardrobe #sewing #sewistsofinstagram #newsewingpattern #handsewing #handsewingproject

I started this year off with learning new techniques! 🪡 The Rupert coat #blprupert by @bellalovespatterns looked so good when it was release, I got the pattern right away. I certainly did not know how much hand sewing a double-faced coat would involve then. Time seemed to have slowed when I got started on the project. It felt like a knitting project with no end date. And then I got used to the steady pace of basting, slip stitches and taking away the basting. I have to say, now that I’m nearing the end of finishing it, I miss the routine. It feels right to post the WIP photos of this undertaking. It’s a special one! 💕#sewsewsew #basteit

✨Double-face magic✨ I dove into this coat head first when I first saw its release. I was drawn to the relaxed fit and elevated look. Something about double-faced wool that delivers luxury. I knew nothing about this type of fabric, and the instructions were excellent. I was very impatient with the hand sewing in the beginning, but I embraced cuz it was a lot like knitting! Also, I learned a tailor’s clapper is key to make clean seams with this kind of material. This is a size 8 in 160cm height group. I’m 165cm. Lengthen the front and back, sleeves and scarf pieces by 3/4”.
