He found a new home at oma and opa.. they live near the see, so he is happy. What a stunner! I could keep this for myself. 💛 I am very grateful for my returning customer Cass. This is the 4th garment she has custom ordered from me. (I am doing something right💛) This time Cass provided her own blanket for a long coat. She wanted duffle buttons & after discussion decided on the loop closures , which were also stitched in to anchor the buttons. No stitching to rip and come undone. As usual I was pedantic with pattern matching on the front button extensions. All time consuming, but so worth it. Pockets are hidden inseam. This fabric combination is a definite winner. You may recall seeing it recently as a Size 8 Custom. So as I try to avoid repeating exact combinations and style I need to change several details to avoid exact replication. This version is a Custom Size 2 for Lisa and it varies in that it has 2 side seam pockets added, a purple ribbon Locker Loop and honey toned flower carved buttons. Its turned out so divine and I am super pleased with how all my plaid lines met perfectly. Be still my beating heart… these photos of my beautiful little customer simply took my breath away. This Peacock Coat evolved after a beautiful cashmere shawl sustained some damage. I hope I get the story correct… this dear girl is wearing the Custom Coat I made as a special request by her Grandma… using her Great Grandmas shawl that the Grandma sent for me to assess its suitability. It did come with some challenges due to the open weave of the shawl but the result was just so fabulous and I am so glad I gave it a shot. My first instinct was to say no but @lisa.22028 trusted me and I think the outcome was pretty darn special. Thank you all ... I have had many messages about my latest Peacock Coat ... its caused one lady to go searching the internet to find some special peacock fabric for a custom coat for her daughter !! I think it deserves some more space on my feed so please scroll through to enjoy some more pics and a video (colour is more accurate in the last few slides, the wool is a candy pink not salmon) I love that my customer thought to attempt to repurpose the shawl after the fringe was damaged in the wash. It was originally owned by her Grandmother so it had much sentimental value. After messaging me and discussing the possibility of repurposing it with me we decided to give it a go. She posted the shawl to me just before Christmas for me to inspect and assess and here we are just a few weeks later with the most wonderful little one of a kind coat. It was a challenging make due to the open weave of the shawl and it required interfacing for stabilisation and protection. I am thrilled to share my first official Custom make for 2025. Its a cracker colour combo and so unique in that the lining is a cashmere shawl. A treasured heirloom of a much loved family member ... its now on its second journey in life. The combination of Peacocks and cherry blossom is hard to beat. The pink wool outer is a Waverley blanket, brand new from the packet ... yet goodness knows how old it actually is. Pristine wool is hard to find. They are a match made in heaven. Closed with 2 of my favourite blossom flower wood buttons, a Peter Pan collar and 2 hidden side seam pockets lined in gingham. Its the perfect coat in a size 4. It came with sewing challenges and it's delicate but I am thrilled with the results. The story behind this little coat is so very special. I made a coat for a beautiful family last year, they had one son and didn’t expect another. Then they reached out again recently for me to make them a little matching coat as God had answered their prayer for another baby after many years of trying. One of those TIFU moments… but it all turned out good in the end. My daughter stopped napping months ago, so when her daycare blanket appeared in her locker, I figured it was being sent home. Since we didn’t need another crib size blanket, I started cutting it into a coat for her to stay cozy this fall. Queue the email from daycare saying “some parents” took the blankets home and to ensure your preschooler has one for school. Whoops. We swapped in another blanket (which was net by a few protests from the kid) and I kept going on my coat project. I used the @twigandtale Pixie Pea Coat and omitted the hood and pockets because I didn’t have enough fabric. I also omitted the lining and bound the seams and edges. I think it turned out so cute. Another Pixie Coat is complete, part 3 of 5 for my customer Myra's little man. Its a Size 2 with the sweetest Peter Pan Collar, side seam pockets and 3 red wood toggles for closure. As in all my Coats and Vests there is a Locker Loop for hanging. Myra chose a Navy and Raspberry Red wool and she supplied the gingham lining fabric. What a darling little coat it turned out to be. I always aim to match the front panels and in pic. 6 if you look closely I pattern matched the side seams also, and they worked out beautifully 😍 I don't usually do this as it can lead to fabric waste. What a dear little coat this is ... the combination was chosen by my lovely customer Alice for her grandson. I adore grey wool and this is a lightweight wool remnant from my stash that is the perfect weight for Queensland winters. Not too hot and heavy but still has the ability to be layered underneath to increase the cozy factor if required. The flanelette fox lining is perfect and definitely unisex so its very versatile when it comes to handing this coat down the line. Front closure is with 3 of the funkiest retro 3D buttons. There is a fully lined feature pocket in a plaid wool topped with Mr Fox .. perfect for storing treasures. A round hood for extra warmth is on hand and a Locker loop for hanging it away safely on a Coat hook if desired. Another little pixie pea coat. This little one has been two years in the making but so worth the procrastination. I was gifted the embroidery pattern as part of the Twig and Tale storyteller team and it was a perfect little project to inspire me to get this coat out of the UFO pile. I’ve been learning long and short stitch and these little woodland bunnies turned out better than expected. This dear little Size 1 Coat has come together beautifully and was the brainstorm of my customer Myra. She loved this blue wool so much and I only had the teeniest piece left. No way could I make an entire coat or even a Vest from it. So ... she asked if I could add some grey wool, two infact. So the Pixie Hood and sleeves are a dark charcoal wool and the back panel is a lighter grey. The 3 wools work so nicely together and are the perfect companion for the Winnie fabric. Another must have for Myra, I was out of stock so she purchased some and sent it to me. Another custom detail is that the back panel, sleeves and hood are all quilted with a wool wadding. This was done to add warmth as the grey wools are very light weight. Its gives a lovely feel to the coat and hopefully some cozy comfort too. Finished with 3 grey vintage buttons from my stash and a Locker Loop. That's it for the details but it's definitely a smashing little coat. I know it’s a win when @dietrichfriesen puts it on as soon as I put the last snap in and has been wearing it since. I thrifted this piece of wool a while ago and knew I wanted to make him a coat for the transition to cooler weather. The September #TTStorytellers theme was “transitions” and while I didn’t get this finished last month, I planned to — because it’s a great transition piece. Up until now autumn has been quite mild around here. A few weeks ago we celebrated my son’s baptism. I was sure we would all be wearing jackets, thick fabrics and rain boots, but when summer decided to come back for a final round, I decided to make my son a new outfit. With sunshine all around, my fabric of choice was a light blue/greyish linen I’ve been hoarding for a while, waiting for the perfect project to come along. Linen is usually not the kind of fabric you would expect for mid October in Germany. That's climate change for you. 'do you call mama, meemee? She conferms.. I ask her: 'when the mama is meemee.. how do you call papa?' (evil smile to my husband) She takes her time.. and then full of love and devotion responds... Hi everyone, Mary from @embercraftcompany taking over the @aurifilthread account this weekend! We are talking all about quilty wearables this weekend, and I had to include the ubiquitous Quilt Coat to the list! A quilted coat is on many a quilter’s bucket list of garments to make for themselves, and I hope this post inspires someone to jump in if they haven’t already! To make the idea of cutting up a perfectly good quilt a little easier on the heart, I decided to make a whole-cloth quilt using a cheater print – this one is a home décor weight from the Americana collection by @beelori1 for @rileyblakedesigns. I get the look of a vintage, hand-pieced heirloom without all the effort and much less heartache if I were to cut something wrong. I’m using the Pixie Peacoat pattern by @twigandtale for this. It’s such a great pattern and fits so well! Now, this pattern is not made for quilted fabric and binding, but I have put together a blog post with an overview of the steps I took to make it – comment “COAT” for a link to the article directly sent to your inbox! I used 12 wt. Aurifil thread in 2845 (Light Juniper) to sew on the big buttons and hand-stitch the binding down around the outer edges of the coat – swipe for a closer look at this sweet detail! It pulls in the turquoise and teal from the fabric and is just a fun little touch you might not otherwise notice. I think quilt coats are here to stay. Have you ever made a quilt coat?
