When I saw this fabric remnant at a sewing show back in March I couldn't resist it, it made a cute little romper for my littlest Granddaughter 🥰. Sewing for a little one who lives on the other side of the world is always hit and miss when it comes to sizing but it fits! I changed the pattern slightly and put button holes in the bodice and buttons on the straps so that they can easily be moved as she grows. The romper pattern includes lots of options, I went for gathered yoke front, broad straps crossed inside (and added button holes on front) ankle length with a cuff. Love this outfit! @twigandtale #barefootromper @twoweerascals long sleeved vest Lying on top of a me-made changing mat (the underside is PUL and is the side I use to change the nappies on), and another of my cosy comfy leaf blankets. He’s currently away out for a walk in the carrier with his Granny as I enjoy my morning tea in peace. He’s a happy wee boy exploring the farm this morning, although I’m pretty sure he’ll be asleep already! Carrier naps are the best naps. Sized up on my @twoweerascals vest to get as much wear out of them (I got several) as possible. There was a sudden urge to create in the latter weeks of my pregnancy, and I managed to finish these wee items for the baby. Writing a blog post was possible (link in bio or stories!) and I explain more about the making there. Lachlan was a big baby, and no longer fits the wee bonnet (@hey_mama_wolf_co #isobelbonnet ). I love it though so will try and find the time to make a bigger size. The dungarees (@twigandtale #barefootromper ) have had more snaps added to the straps but they are a bit big at the moment. I don’t mind: he’ll grow into them. And I’ve not tried the jumper vest (@hey_mama_wolf_co #wolfmoonsweater ) as it does look like it’ll be too big. But soon! #handmadebabyclothes #sewscotland

There has been so much sewing with not much sharing lately. But here is a Barefoot romper I made (checks notes) nearly 2 years ago. A size 3 for my then-nearly-2yo now fits my 2yo perfectly. I had to rummage around in a ‘not fitting now’ pile so it’s fairly crumpled. She scored it today because she was adamant we were going swimming and so kept running around with no nappy. She is very independent (yay) but she can’t get herself out of these (score) plus she was delighted with pockets and Bluey so thank goodness we have compliance. Made some matching #ttbarefootromper for my twin nephews. You can tell they are twins because it’s impossible to get them both to look at the camera. Fabric is a thrifted seersucker. It was weirdly narrow but that wasn’t a problem for toddler size.

I think one of my favourite things about Handmade is the longevity and stories associated with each item. ’Are you coming with us?’ I asked my uncle yesterday. ’I don’t know,’ he said, ’depends on where you’re going’. ’To my favourite place on earth!’ I answered. This really is one of my favourite spots, and I was so happy to visit again yesterday now that the snow is gone! Olle cycled there, 11km, and he was very proud 🌟 During april, the #ttstorytellers theme was color, and it made me think about my favourite color. I like earthy tones, rust, green, ocre, but apparently I like brown best, judging my wardrobe! I made a set in towelling fabric for Noah and when that was finished I got a bit jealous, so I made a set for myself as well. The fabric is vintage deadstock from @lusefine 🤎 This is the first time I made a shirt in woven fabric and it is very comfortable! It’s the #ttscenictop and if I make another one I will probably make it a bit higher in the front. I added a button on the back to match Noah. The pants are #ttcoastalcuffedshorts and I added 5 cm to the rise but that wasn’t really nessecary, I think I’ll make another one in linen and cut a straight size 14. I’ll share more photos of my outfit soon 💚 Linus is wearing a #ttbarefootromper and it’s one of the first things I have made for him! Time is just flying by and he is growing so fast, suddenly everything was too small. I hope to make him some more things soon! A Barefoot romper for our littlest. I finished it (and the crochet blanket) the day before she turned 3 months. Size 3-6 months, gathered front, spaghetti straps with anchor loop, full length as I hope it will last her until the cooler weather comes back next year. Are you all more perfectionists or are you able to embrace your makes to be perfectly imperfect? I have to admit that I have perfectionist tendencies and have always been more about quality than quantity, despite the time it takes. I have high expectations in everything I make and often get lost in the details. But that is also what I love about sewing and the reason why I prefer sewing more individual patterns over basics. Not only the result matters, but also the joy of creating. One thing I always care about is, that my children don’t have to feel my expectations. I plan all our photo trips carefully and include fun stuff like picknicks, so that they can just enjoy their time and their new clothes without it feeling like work. Especially because I want the images to be nice memorabilia filled with fun memories of their childhood, instead of just for Instagram. Aber das ist auch eine der Gründe warum ich nähen so liebe: nicht nur das Endprodukt zählt, sondern auch der Weg dahin kann einem viel Freude bereiten. Bei den Bildern war es mir schon immer sehr wichtig, dass meine Kinder meine Erwartungen nicht spüren. Ich plane unsere Ausflüge immer gut vor und bereite auch oft z.b. Picknicks zu, dass die Kinder einfach die Zeit genießen können ohne Arbeitsdruck zu spüren. What fun little "surprises" do you like to include in your handmade garments?⁣ ⁣ I was just talking with one of our Storytellers today about how I enjoy "hiding" a fun bias binding inside of a garment, to finish raw edges - even though I know no one else is likely to see it, it's such fun knowing it's there.⁣ ⁣ I love this idea by Storyteller @junamei_ as well - rather than trimming them off as waste, she instead made the eye-catching selvedge of her fabric a feature in these Barefoot Romper straps. Barefoot romper for my 2yo for daycare photos on Tuesday. Finished… at breakfast Tuesday morning 🤣 then worn ALL day. Size 3, gathered yoke front, ankle length, broad (shortened) straps crossed inside, blue love heart pocket (don’t look too closely 😳), made from a flannel sheet. The straps I intend to change to be fastened with snaps at the front. I have a friend who works with children at our local school. She contacted me regarding a little girl who has sensory issues and in her case she doesn't like fabric touching her lumbar or behind. Because of this she removes her clothes, therefore was unable to attend school. After considering lots of options, one thing I tried for her was the Twig & Tale barefoot romper being it is so light and airy. I made it with gauze fabric and without the back elastic so that it would be even more flowy on her. She'll be wearing it with the school uniform shirt. I wanted her to be able to match the other children as well as possible, so I made it in "uniform khaki". She came over to try it on and seemed very happy! She'll be trying it out at school next week, but I wanted to share incase anyone else out there encounters someone with a similar problem. @twigandtale #ttbarefootromper

Our family loves Bluey. I bought this material sometime last year and it sat around, waiting for a project. Our 4yo was ecstatic when I realised I would have enough to make 2 Bluey rompers. So here is the first (almost finished): flat front, side treasure pockets, broad straps, knee length 🤣 I made a size 3 for this tall girl and it should last her 2 summers I think. I was worried about the extra roominess in the crotch but it hasn’t bothered her at all.
