My favourite make of 2024 has to be my #ttforestercoat from @twigandtale patterns. I think I've never worn something as often as this coat. This was my first attempt at outerwear and I was pretty intimidated but the end result was so good... especially for my sewist's ego 😊 I love it because it kept me warm and cosy both during pregnancy and afterwards with my baby. Everytime I put this on I feel like someone is giving me a huge hug. i am sitting on the couch, enjoying some peacefull sundayafternoon knitting. My 5 year old passes me. On hands and feet. A Cord knotted around her waist, at the other end of the cord a stepsstool attached. so she passes by while singing a new, self composed song: Foxes have a sweet and good life!! I sit there, thinking i probably have fallen down some kind of rabbithole.. and entered the miraculous wonderland.. Now enough about my crazy life.. At the @twigandtale storytellers, this moths theme is texture.. (such a cool theme!) I have had the wish to combine knitting and sewing for at least 10 years.. and so i did it.. and in doing so, i gave my husband his coat, on which he was also waiting aprox. 10 years.. it is the #ttforestercoat and it fits perfectly! i knitted the collar, and i added also knitted handcufs (not part of the original pattern) he loves his coat, actually he wears it al the time, even inside😂 the coat was made out of 2 euro thirfted woolen fabric. What can I say: baby is comfy, mommy is comfy, it's a win-win situation 😊 The only 'problem' is that it's getting warmer, so I'm already planing on making a lighter version of the coat. 😎 No more half-zipped coats around here! I finally did it: my first coat! It took me a while, but I finally made outerwear. Soon after I found out I was pregnant, I planned to make the #TTForestercoat from @twigandtale with the nestledown add-on. I managed to make the coat a few months ago, but I wasn’t able to make the baby carrying panel until now. I’ve worn this coat everyday for the last few months and didn’t expect to love it this much. It’s a bit too big for me (especially post partum), but it just feels like a warm cuddle. I like garments that speak to me and this one tells the story of a very pregnant belly that had all the space it needed to grow and always felt warm and cozy (this was not the case during my first pregnancy, where I was uncomfortable and felt constricted in my store bought jacket most of the time). The outer fabric is a wool blend that I got from a local fabric market and for the lining I used a children’s bedsheet that I bought at a local charity shop a few years ago. I’ll post photos with the baby carrying panel soon. Overall a great pattern with great instructions that I will be making again and that I would recommend for sewists of all levels. What's this? A @brushesandbiertjes OOTD? The jacket was planned before I got him his @community_clothing beanie for Christmas and I am very pleased with how the colour matches the orangey threads in the plaid. Speaking of which, the matching across all the 7 body panels is really pretty darn good I think. My fiancé’s @twigandtale Forester Coat is done, just in time for the new year! I’m so pleased with how it turned out. The outside is a dark khaki green wool blend that I underlined in an old flannel sheet for stability and warmth, and the lining is a lightweight flannel. After making two toiles the final size is somewhere between a 40 and a 42. I had fun adding some extra details, like a tag and a hook for hanging. I’m glad I took my time with this one…the directions were super clear, and I definitely learned some new skills! #ttforestercoat #twigandtaleforester #sewing #sewistsofinstagram #handmade #menswear

Work in progress with my helper Louie…can you spot the error? This is the @twigandtale Men’s Forester coat, a belated Christmas present for my fiancé. I wanted to make sure I really perfected the fit for this one, so I sewed up two toiles before cutting into my main and lining fabrics. I wound up shortening it by 14cm at his request, but didn’t think through the length of the pockets, which hang below the hem. Whoops! A coat for M! (And additional thanks for sending me these photos to share!) In waterproof softshell with a cotton lining. Zip opening with windflap, internal and external pockets, and a detachable hood. Custom modifications to make her coat more suitable for wheelchair use include popper fastenings on all the pockets, two-setting sleeve tabs including the option to cinch them tight around her wrists so the fabric doesn't brush against the wheels, longer sleeves to her required length, and a shorter coat length relative to her height (although this one I can't really take any credit for - normally I'd have lengthened the pattern to account for her height, but in this case I left the body as it was and only adjusted the sleeves.) It's taken some time but I have finally finished my @twigandtale Forester coat and I love it! 💕 I had bought the lining fabric online but it wasn't suitable for the shirt I had planned (the graphics were bigger than expected) but I thought it would make a great lining. Then I found this old blanket on eBay and it was perfect! I made it a bit difficult for myself because I wanted to keep the blanketstitch edge but it worked out in the end. I probably would have done a longer lining in hindsight, and I wished I had topstitched the body seams. The lining is attached by a buttonhole chain at each seam to allow some movement. #ttforestercoat

"I'm a beekeeper. I protect the hive." Anyone else see @beekeepermov? I felt like, as a beekeeper (not a Beekeeper-beekeeper though), I was kind of obligated to see it, and after a month of planning and sewing, I managed to sew up a jacket similar to the one in the movie! This isn't a jacket I'd use for actual beekeeping because it's completely impractical (too heavy, too many places for bees to sneak in), but it's warm and comfortable, so you can be sure I'll be wearing it nonstop until summer. I really enjoyed this project and figured you'd get a kick out of seeing what your beekeeper gets up to in the winter when the beekeeping work slows down dramatically. . Nitty gritty details in case you want to sew your own: The pattern is a modified Forester Coat from @twigandtale. The fabric for the outside is a 10oz cotton canvas from @nickoftimefabric, the lining is a quilting cotton from Joann, and there's a 1/16” fusible cotton batting fused to the canvas to add warmth. Added handknit cuffs and made the pockets 2" wider (I like big pockets and I cannot lie), and of course modified the front pieces to add the flaps and buckles. The buckles attach to the flap with snaps so they're more practical too. Added one additional snap to the other side of the flap to keep it from shifting around too much. The pattern was a pretty easy sew despite there being a lot of pieces and it feeling super intimidating at the start, but everything lined up perfectly, and the video tutorials helped a ton. . #ttforestercoat #forestercoat #thebeekeeper #thebeekeepermovie #beekeeping #beekeeper #sewistsofinstagram

I had a super fun finish this week. This is the @twigandtale Forester Coat. My daughter needed a new coat for this year and I had been saving this teal corduroy for her. This pattern was SO EASY to follow. In fact, the hardest part of the whole thing was seeing the toggles on at the end 🤣 They really wanted to slide and shift on the corduroy. The pattern comes with a child’s 12/14 as the smallest size on the women’s version. Although it’s large on her now, I’m hoping she’ll get a good 2-3 years out of it. As promised, here is my second #TTforestercoat and this time it's an upcycle. The theme of the month of May on the @twigandtale storytellers group was 'renew' and that is one of my favourite aspects about sewing. I love to repurpose fabric and give old garments a new life. I'm not a fan of fast fashion, so this is my way to handle our resources as mindfully as I can. This make fits right into this theme, as I made the coat out of a flanel duvet cover that I bought for only 2€ at my local charity shop. I used the same material as the outer fabric and as the lining. As a member of the Twig + Tale Storytellers, I received this pattern for free to sew and share my experience. This morning was a great morning to get out my @twigandtale Forester Coat 🏔️ This former woolen blanket was picked up from the side of the road in Perth, Western Australia by my brother. He looked at it and knew I would want it 😉 A couple of washes, a plane ride, and a few more washes later, it is now one of my favourite jackets and has many years of life in it.
