I guess you already noticed it … … the Barefoot Dress that came with that Leaf Satchel. It was once a shirt my husband never wore and now - after years of loneliness in his closet - it gets a chance to be loved 🥰 For this upcycling project I really wanted to keep the button front and the curved hem. This dress sprung on me early this year (in all the best ways) and I am so chuffed with how it's turned out! Well, it's been a most horrendous start to the Lunar New Year so far 😆 Two weeks of heatwave, and then the little one (and I) got hit with a nasty bug which brought a lot of tears and fitful nights 🤧🤕 Thankfully I think we are past the worst of this malady, but we will have to get through another heatwave with a top forecast of 44C over the weekend 🥵 So I'm here to make the most out of the little sewing joys 🙂 A simple but most comfortable set of top and shorts made with a fabric gifted by a lovely neighbour from their travels 💙 I missed the opportunity for a photo but I was pleased to make a very cute #TTBarefootDress out of the same fabric for her 4yo too 💕 The top is the Scenic top from @twigandtale and the shorts are new to me - City Gym Shorts, a free pattern (in kids' and adult size) by @purlsoho 🌱 I decided to line the shorts (as the fabric is a lightweight cotton) and in the process realised that I could easily make the shorts reversible! It is Leaf Satchel Time 🍃 even here in Switzerland! After I noticed the call for the Satchel Sew & Show Team I instantly knew this could be the perfect opportunity to get our girl a new bag for her many forest adventures. That’s why I decided to use Oilskin and Dry Oilskin for the outside (because it’s water repellent) and a light cute cotton fabric for the inside. The small landscape version is perfect for our almost 6yo. Due to lack of enough outer fabric in main color I improvised and used a leftover hemp fiber strap and some brass hardware. I handstitched the leave veins with a simple chain stitch. Overall I really love everything about those items I was able to make during that time. Perfect for spring and summer. You can also see her wearing an upcycled barefoot dress out of my husband’s shirt (more about that one soon) and a headband (inspired by the T&T Gifting Set and adjusted to her size) embroidered with those cute berries from the T&T Woodland Alphabet. I am so pleased to to share my take on the lovely @twigandtale Barefoot Dress. This sew was so fun! When I found this preloved checked tablecloth I knew I wanted to make dresses for my littles which aligned well with the Storyteller theme of “Renew” for May. This is a lovely 100% cotton that was a dream to sew. The green gauze cotton has been in my stash for years and was the perfect compliment to the tablecloth fabric. For this project I also decided to give embroidery a go for the first time. I just love embroidery and I have wanted to try it for ages but convinced myself it was too tricky. I was so wrong. I I found it to be so slow and meditative which I loved. I enjoyed gathering my supplies and settling in to embroider. I’m really keen to learn more and practice with embroidery/hand sewing. My littles were patient with me while I learned a new skill and I’m delighted they are happy with their new dresses. As a member of the Twig + Tale Storytellers, I received this pattern for free to sew and share my experience. All opinions provided are my own.

This month’s T&T Storyteller theme is “renew”. I have been inspired in many ways by this theme. Creating new garments out of old clothes that are no longer worn, sewing with vintage fabrics and learning to embroider to breathe new life into old garments. My main project for this month I plan to sew the @twigandtale Barefoot Dress for my littles using a repurposed checked cotton tablecloth I purchased 2nd hand. I am also learning to embroider to add some sweet little details to the dresses. Such a fun little project that I am loving taking my time with.

hi! here is the #ttbarefootdress dress, my 5 year old birthday girl dreamed up. made out of omas old linen dress.. with the seashell embroidery as label, and the cute tulip pocket, out of the new pocket pack by @twigandtale the birthday girl decided the lace of an old pillow case with fit the dress perfectly.. so i started to unpick by hand.. wow, they sure new how to attach someting firmly in the olden day.. if it was not for me, that lace would have stayed put for an other 100 years.. as i embroidered the seashell label, our car broke down.. thus cancelling our annual beach holiday.. but by some great miracle, we got a wonderfull new car, big enough to carry all our plunder to the beach!! never been happy to see that seaside!
