A fairy princess #geraniumdress and @twigandtale #TTwoodlandspritewings for my girl's birthday. I was inspired by @sewliberated 's amazing geranium dress that she posted a while ago. I used @wearethefabricstore linen and a layer of silk chiffon for the dress, which makes it a big step-up from the usual Disney-style nylon confections. The wings were made using some Japanese linen from my local fabric store. The wings were quite fiddly but I am going to be making another pair soon for my younger daughter's birthday.

This was the only sewing I did for Christmas. A pair of adjustable fairy wings. This was my first time using a walking foot, doing applique and adding snaps to an item. It was a really fun project. These fairy wings are going to be a gorgeous surprise for a pair of sisters this Christmas! Now that my nieces have opened their Christmas presents, I can share the four fairy wings I made. I used the @twigandtale Woodland Sprite Wings pattern and mostly fabrics I had already. I'm glad to have kept my prettiest scraps as they were perfect for this project. I love the elastic and adjustable snaps on the straps as they make it fit really well. It was certainly a time-consuming project, but worth it to see pictures and videos of my nieces loving them. We peaked too early on sugar yesterday to manage proper Halloween costume photos of the Autumn Fairy, but here we are nonetheless! I used the #oliverandspatterns tutu skirt but did an elasticated waist rather than ties so she can manage putting it on by herself. The #twigandtalewings nearly broke me, so much topstitching and layering and topstitching. Did I mention the topstitching?! But it’s a beautiful pattern and I’m so pleased with how they turned out. Had the best time creating a pair of @twigandtale woodland sprite wings for one of my wonderful little niece’s Christmas present. I actually didn’t realise I forgot to take an all finished picture, so this will have to suffice. This project was perfect for our busy life at the moment as it was easy to pick up and put down as I wanted to. For Christmas, I gave Lily these fairy wings that I made for her. They were probably my most challenging sewing project of 2021 and I finished them just in the nick of time on Christmas Eve, but it was definitely worth it. Lily adores the wings, they’ve inspired so much imaginative play already, and I’m so pleased with how this project turned out. The wings pattern is from @twigandtale. And the fabric is from @craftsouth + @annamariahorner.

Day 1 of annual leave and the rugrat’s wings are finished just in time for school pickup! Yippee! We picked the appliqué fabrics together from my stash and chose their arrangement. The main fabric is a glittery gingham from @spotlightstores that I bought blindly from their website during lockdown. Was hoping it wouldn’t be one of the more gaudy glittery ones that have come out of late and was happy to see it wasn’t. Bonus also that it sheds very little glitter as well. Win! Pattern was well written and easy to follow. Only deviation was that I appliquéd both sides of the wings so the prettiness is seen in face-on photographs as well. Highly recommend. Machine sewed through the thick layers like butter, which made it an easy sew. Can’t wait to see them on her shortly. It’s time for a break… (and a sale) my little shop will be closing at the end of this week as my focus and direction alters. I don’t know how long the break will be - maybe its just for winter, maybe longer. I said the other day that the winds had brought a feeling of change, and the calm that followed a doozy of a storm has helped me think through my priorities and what I most want out of the next few months.
