Yesterday was a dark day... Our house flooded and 95% of my patterns were ruined 😥 (I store them in expanding folders, which happened to be on the bottom shelf of a bookcase) Some were hard copies, other's I spent hours printing, cutting, grading and assembling. Either way, can we say a quiet condolence for my patterns... Harry Potter on the Quiditch field, Goku from dragon ball Z, and Zym from the dragon prince I made all the costumes. ZYM used a hacked onesie pattern from @gooberpeadesigns as the base. Harry Potter I used the hacked robe pattern from @radpatterns , for goku I hacked the belevedre waistcoat pattern from @threadtheorydesigns and didn’t hack the #rainhavenpants from @twigandtale #halloweensewing #dragonballz #thedragonprince #harrypotter #costumes #sewing

I finally made a few things! I made some other pants which I have not yet documented. The process was exciting but as they neared completion I realised they were way too big. I needed a palate cleanser and something that would feel successful, and I have been talking about making these for a year, so the same evening I finished the failed pants, I quickly whipped up these rain pants afterwards. By "quickly whipped up" of course I mean I suffered 4.5 hours of the great heaving agony that only sewing gore-tex can induce. This is a simple pattern. I used clips instead of pins. I seam taped all the seams with dyneema tape (possibly overkill). I lined the pants with green ripstop which makes them cozy but not at all slidey over clothing. They are perfect but I wish I had not bought orange. My desire to be seen and not run over was cute but now I would like sleek black rain pants. I used a new 90 needle, all the micro tex ones were too weak and couldn't get through the fabric. Teflon foot Fabric @ripstopbytheroll It's very very thin which is why I wanted another layer under it Pattern is by @twigandtale it is the rainhaven pants I'm glad these are done, now some big upcoming projects will feel easy. Sewing gore-tex, like root canals, can be prepared for and is always worth it in the end. Sometimes I feel like I’m channeling my inner Play School presenter 😆. Testing the waterproof-ness of the fabric that I’ve just waxed. I’ve been showing people in the #rainhavencollection #sewalong how to waterproof their own cotton fabric. I used a waterproofing balm that I made using beeswax from my own bees 🐝 😁. Finished my own pair of upcycled Rainhaven Pants! Lines and colours don't match because I was cutting from leftovers of the tent fly I used for the boys' overalls, but I do love that the two-colour bits are there. The fit is so much better than I was expecting (I cut a size 44 Reg with no mods) ☺️ and I think they will get a workout this week/weekend and that they will help keep me warm and dry when we're exploring outdoors. I added some inner cuffs, not sure if they are a good addition but I thought they might keep the pant closer to the leg without elastic. I made these overpants a couple of weeks ago to take with me on bush kids adventures with our homeschooling friends. They're made with softshell to keep me nice and warm and dry. Today was the first day they got used, though not by me, another Mum fell in the freezing river and got soaked up to her chest! Last week the weather turned and it felt like summer was truly over, so I made these wet-weather pants for Emilia for kindy. Fast forward to this week, and the sun is out and the temperature is back up, so I'm yet to get a modeled photo of these! In fact, I don't think she's even tried them on... I loved sewing these! The finishing details are great, and I'm pretty bloody proud of my seam matching (IYKYK). It was my first time sewing with fabric like this - I used nylon twill for the main body (burgundy), and the patches and pockets are made with ripstop nylon for extra sturdiness. I couldn't find any seam sealing tape in NZ, so the seams aren't sealed, but I'm hoping she doesn't frequently sit in puddles wearing them - they should be fine for general rainy garden and sandpit play and bush walks! My son’s nursery staff suggested I get some trousers for Christopher that are loose at the ankles, so he can take them off more easily. Christopher said he’d love them to be RED trousers with a pocket for treasure. Their wishes are my command! Christopher loves the pocket; it’s already been filled with all sorts 😍 including a small dragon! The pattern is actually for rain trousers, but the instruction booklet includes the ease given so I sewed a smaller size (since they aren’t over-trousers) going by the chart. They’re made from red cotton/linen blend from Stoff Kiosken...I’m willing to bet I’m the first person in the #rainhavenpants hashtag group to have sewed these out of a linen blend 😄 The pattern is by @twigandtale. They last until the age of 10, so I can see I’m going to get a lot of use out of this pattern 😀 both as trousers and rain trousers.
