Here is my new favorite skirt in action! This is the #ttmeadowskirt by @twigandtale , made out of a thrifted cotton sheet in ditsy floral print. I finished it two weeks ago and I have been struggling to wear anything else since! It started as the skirt to a dress pattern that I once loved but have since decided is not well drafted. After sewing for five years I know when a pattern is good and when it isn't. I detached the skirt from the bodice and added the Meadow Skirt waistband. I had already used the pockets from the skirt. The Meadow Skirt is an extremely well-drafted pattern! I have the inclination to make a closet full of these and wear only them all year long. They dress up or down and are comfortable to wear basically to anything. Today I wore this on a trail in the state park, with bike shorts and it was perfect. Swipe for the last photo to see how I crossed the creek in it. This is also how I "style" it to play soccer with my first graders. This skirt is a few inches shorter than I would traditionally make, as I love super long skirts. But I am glad about the length as it makes the skirt wearable for More occasions. I got this fabric at the thrift shop a long time ago and I’m so glad I finally got the push to make it into something beautiful for her! Party outfit of the middle child.. she wanted to look like mama.. so please a long skirt with bow.. luckily @twigandtale has got the #ttmeadowskirt in maxi length for the kids as well! made out of old bettsheets i gave the skirt a bit more volume (half the width of the skirt added.. (so 150%)) and added a bow.. (cut out as long as the dress, and as wide as the back waistband)(before you sew the front and back waistband together, add the ties on both sides) top is our forever favorite shrit galway the hand things.. Me made May Day 6: first time sewing a zero waste pattern from the lovely book by @birgittahelmersson which was a nifty origami/lego style challenge and I love the boxy relaxed vibe #zerowasteshirt #birgittahelmersson Worn with a #ttmeadowskirt in a linen I thrifted. #memademay2025 Also including an awkward fit video to show the neat details of the shirt - it has a deep pleat on the back and is finished with binding and a big facing on the back which looks pretty funky here because I haven’t ironed it 🤷‍♀️

With the recent time change and longer days of sunlight, I have found more energy to do the things I love. Each day after work, I sewed for about 30min- an hour. Sewing in small chunks can help you feel less overwhelmed on larger projects, I have found. These tiny little pieces of time add up- and they helped me to finish my second @twigandtale storyteller project. This is the meadow skirt. I added the faux placket panel which I adore-because I usually hate gaping button plackets. With the faux placket there is no worry. The twig and tale blog post made this so simple that I’m already dreaming up all of the faux button plackets in my future! Other details- I added 12” of length and a 2” hem for my 5”9 frame. I actually made this one last year but made the wait too tight.. it sat on my mending pile for a while before I finally found the energy to fix it. It ended up being a quick fix and I'm glad I did. I still don't know if I'm 100% sold.. I normally wear plain bottoms and patterned tops but this fabric just spoke 'skirt' to me. I still don't know what else to pair it with other than a black top!? goose Giselda hood is launching tomorrow!! pattern by @loparefur I love to go icebathing.. (do it more than once a week..)(actually, when you do it often, it does not really feel cold.. or well, it does.. but your body does not really mind..) These fotos where taken in the valley where we go.. it probably is the most icy place far around.. the sun just never reaches down. so snow and ice stay here, long after everything is starting getting spring thoughts.. I was thinking, i should take a foto of giselda goose, and me, swiming in the icewater.. but.. well.. my face just does not look so nice, when i am in that water😂 Giselda goose is accompanied by some woollie stuf.. my favorite #ttmeadowskirt made out of upcycled wool.. The festive season seemed like a good time to sew up a new #ttmeadowskirt or two. I left the pockets off to save some time and fabric, thinking I probably wouldn’t get *that* much wear out of these but even during the one day I’ve worn each, I’ve missed having somewhere to tuck my phone to free up my hands. #regrets

Now that it is June I figured it was a good time to finally post my #memademay /birthday make of the year 😭🤷‍♀️ This is the #ttmeadowskirt by @twigandtale that I made from a thrifted sari from @creative_reuse ! I absolutely love this blue shade and had fun figuring out how to cut up the sari so the beads would be where I wanted them. Sadly I had to cut out all the beads that were inside the seam allowances, otherwise I would have broken all of my needles. The last photo features me and my youngest dressed for school for Fancy Friday instead of using the day to wear jeans and a t-shirt which is how I would normally dress for a Friday at work. Though to be fair, even though this skirt feels fancy due to the long length and beading, it’s so comfortable I would gladly wear it any day of the week.

Me Made May Day 10 I wear me made clothes every day but I’m a chronic outfit repeater so I didn’t see a point in participating in posting most of my outfits so far since I’ve shared them in the past. Today I wore a new cropped Driftwood Blouse that I made the other day using an old tablecloth. I’m not super happy with how it turned out and I think next time I might gather the bottom before adding the waistband so it’s more fitted. I also wore my linen Meadow Skirt. @twigandtale patterns make the most beautiful bases for adding in details, and with the Storyteller theme being Details this month, it was the perfect time to make this double gauze skirt that I had been thinking about. Usually I go all out and add in so many things because ‘more is more!’, but I wanted to tone it down this time and focus on a few sweet little extras and a simple wardrobe piece. This dainty paper pieced heart, made from @shannonsstudio fabric scraps, made the cutest addition to the patch pocket. My daughter loves hearts, and knowing how much I love her, so this was the perfect little detail to remind her. The button front hack from the Twig and Tale blog is a simple way to mix up the pattern and use up buttons. I used some small white ones from a garage sale and added embroidery on top. Over the moon because I just completed my second quilt for the #finishitfebruary quilt along! I finished hand sewing binding and the label on this beauty this morning while listening to #catechisminayear podcast while everyone else was still sleeping. I am thinking about having my own trunk show in my living room this weekend, not for anyone in particular, but just for myself. I started using the #myquiltsapp by @kileysquiltroom earlier this year and I have been realizing how bad I am at documenting my projects. Since I just finished two quilts, which means I washed and dried them and had them laying on the couches, I felt inspired to go wash all the quilts that have been on beds for the last six months or so, which meant I also started counting quilts. We have 11 throw quilts in our house - 8 of which are utility quilts and three of which are display quilts. Then I started counting how many quilts I have given away and I can recall 18. So I have made nearly 30 quilts, if my calculations are correct. And I have given close to 2/3 of them away! So I am adding documenting my quilts to my list of goals this year. I am also going to keep more quilts. I am not one to hold onto everything I make, because I make a lot and I don't want to be a hoarder. But I also realized that I DO want to be one of those quilters with a trunk full of quilts to rotate out onto beds and couches at different times of year, and who has lots of quilts for grandchildren (if the Lord wills it) in the future. Work is finally winding down a bit for the year. I've managed to find time to finish the elephant maxi #ttmeadowskirt I started three months ago, and knock up another quick #PeppermintPocketSkirt in khaki Got the elastic wrong in both! Elephant is too tight 😬😬 and the pocket too loose.. I've unpicked and fixed the latter, it was a simple fix. But I'm hoping to avoid fixing the elephant, it's much more complex! I also didn't follow the instructions on the Meadow Skirt properly and the front is a bit too narrow... Totally my bad. I am so excited to be part of the @twigandtale Storytellers team for 2025! Our first project theme is Imagination. For me, sewing sparks my imagination in so many ways, my general view is that if something is made of fabric, it can made into nearly anything! I get the majority of my fabrics from thrift stores, and I sometimes come across items I can't bear to leave behind! One example was a vintage net curtain. I just kept imagining all of the neat things it could become. It just pulled me in, and for $2, I couldn't say no! My initial plan was to use part of it to add to the waistband of a Meadow Skirt, but then my imagination sparked, and I wondered if I would have enough to make an Overland Cloak as well. To add the detail to the Meadow waistband, I just cut an extra front piece and treated it as one piece during construction. The Overland Cloak is unlined, and I'm a sucker for French seams, so it is sewn together using French seams to give the inside a finished look. I also chose to use the front facing pieces of the lining to help stabilize the front, and hemmed the raw edges. I’m so pleased to share my final Storyteller project for the year: the Child Scenic and Meadow ensemble. For November the Storytellers explored the theme of “Connections”. This project was a full circle moment for me as I began this beautiful journey with a Scenic and Meadow ensemble for myself. It was such a fun project and I learned so much. As soon as I tried on my outfit my little squealed how pretty it was and pleaded that I make her one to match. It was the sweetest and cutest thing. I promised her I would try my best to make it happen. How fitting for my last project to be fulfilling my little’s request. I decided to sew this up in lightweight linen because I love it so! My daughter chose flare sleeves and a knee length skirt. I plan to do some slow sewing and add some lovely embroidery to the top in the near future. This was such a fantastic year being a part of the Storytellers group. What a inspiring group of makers! I have loved every minute! Thank you @twigandtale for having me! Rome: third 24 hours. A visit to St. Paul's Basilica, two massive statues of St. Peter and St. Paul that perfectly capture their characters, the discovery of Antoniazzio Romano and his incredible altarpieces, a chapel of reliquaries, a picnic lunch in the shade of a tree, an afternoon of quiet reading at home, evening mass at Santa Maria in Monti, a walk down to the Colosseum and the Forum for Kevin and Jack to practice their Latin, and drinks at the little bar just one unit over from our apartment. Rome is actually completely packed! It's a bit much. I just manage to take photos in such a way as to make one think we are here all on our own. During my summer holidays, I embroidered flowers onto my Meadow skirt pocket backs, whilst watching the tennis on the telly after evening walks on the sandy beach. The flowers I drew as I pleased, and fitted to the shape of the pockets. It’s a bit like having summer in your pockets all year round. I finished my skirt during my first month as a Storyteller, but in the busyness of first term, it hasn’t been shared. Perhaps the timing is better, as it perfectly reflects the storyteller theme of details. It’s a small detail, but it completely transforms this skirt. It’s an instant wardrobe staple, and is regularly worn with both printed and plain tshirts. The colour is beautiful, embroidery whimsical and it makes me feel elegant. Sewing for myself Starting 2025 with a project for me When I found this liberty fabric on sale at @spotlightstores I felt it would be the perfect this to kick me back into sewing for myself. My body has definitely changed a little since before having my girls so I think that was holding me back from sewing just for me.
