Love a jumpsuit, hate being rudy in the toilet I made this faux jumpsuit from @twigandtale #fernwayculottes which is very much a tried and tested pattern for me, I’ve loved every pair I’ve made. Saturdays are for running errands, doing housework, and making things which means shorts for day 11 of #MeMadeMay2024 . These #fernwayculottes are one of my favourite pairs of shorts, they're very good for any situation that I need to fill my pockets because they've got ties and the little flower pattern has all my favourite colours in it for easy matching with one of my selection of political or good cause t-shirts. This morning I went for a walk to do some errands, then I came home to do some cleaning and put some food in the slow cooker first dinner and worked on my snot skirt replacement. Sophie did some baking and tidied her bedroom and Ollie did some cleaning and then cubing practice. A very productive day for all of us and I'm going to enjoy soaking in the bath while Sophie is at work tonight. #SewingSaturday

For day 5 of #MeMadeMay2024 I did some sewing! These @twigandtale #fernwayculottes have been in a WIP box for nearly a year with only the front pocket pieces attached. Today I spent two hours sewing them and it was a real joy to sew a pattern I know so well I can do it without much thinking. My pants and jacket are made with linen from @wearethefabricstore, and the labels on my pants are @kylieandthemachine with the back label a @_diydaisy one. The jacket is the #AmeliaBomber that I love for when it's not cold enough for a proper jacket and the colour of these pants is a perfect match, so I'm very happy. For #MeMadeMay2024 day two, I worked from home in my comfy linen pants. These pants are #fernwayculottes in a lighter weight linen that's at risk of wearing through in multiple places because I wear them so much. I went for a walk to the pharmacy to get a lecture from the pharmacist, whoops I mean to pick up my meds and wore my #kellyanorak because it has been raining on and off all day. The Kelly anorak is a very satisfying sew and it's the perfect jacket for a rainy day. In the post today I got my wonderful #intersexy tshirt from @intersexaotearoa and I love it so much. Sewing plans: When I got the fabric for my jacket, I also got some in black to make a rain jacket for @thesewingsophie so I think I need to put that to the top of the list. I would also like to make another Kelly anorak in a drill or something for dry days.

I had a vision with this top and culottes combo. Did I deliver ? Heavy cotton table cloth upcycle pants with pockets of course. Top light cotton with puffy sleeves, elastic around neck and sleeves.. Culottes waist flat 84cm, quite a bit of stretch best for sizes 10-14 Top best for sizes 10-14 as well underarm 120cm, raglan sleeve. Want to see a mid-Summer update on my #makenine2021 plans? I like to sketch my planned projects and then paint the sketches when each project is completed. As you can see, I’ve finished 4/9 so far! I’m not terribly behind yet, but I need to get sewing!! To be very honest, I don’t know if all of these plans will get completed this year. When I made the list, my wedding plans looked quite different and didn’t involve any additional sewing on my part. Now, I’ve taken on at least one big wedding sewing project (and maybe two if I don’t fit in my wedding dress again by November…). But I think that’s the beauty of sketching out sewing plans in this way. These are good ideas, and I still want to pursue all of them. Another colour blast for the weekend. Loose cut culottes best fit for sizes AU10-14. I have used parrot print cotton drill from 70s. Wide waistband with elastic at the back, pockets of course and 3/4 length. This style is the most comfortable thing to wear. I have them in so many colours. Flowy fernways - this was my airport outfit, both when I went to Rome and on my return flight home. Love my fernway culottes so much. It’s like a skirt but I don’t have to worry about the dreadful chafing and it’s like trousers but they’re nice and breezy. The viscose twill has the breathable element to it which makes it more appealing in this hot weather plus it’s a great drape. 150 years of Liberty's- so enjoyed seeing the exhibition. My sewing world has been tied to this institution for a third of that time so I had to wear a new me made outfit for the visit. Fernway culottes? Yes plea(t)se! Belgian weather has surprised us a few times already with very warm weather. And although I love all my skirts and dresses, sometimes it’s just more practical to wear trousers. The solution: shorts that look like skirts! The Fernway culottes are amazing. You don’t need a lot of fabric (I was very surprised) and they’re very comfy and loose. And they look cute! When I first got back into sewing, I made a pair of culottes that I never loved. It wasn’t the pattern’s fault — it was a combo of bad measurements (I was freshly postpartum and they were changing as I was sewing) and a paperbag waist hack that I loved the idea of more than I loved the execution. They’ve been sitting in a pile, waiting for a new life, until now. I cut them into a different pattern (Fernway Culottes) and embroidered some bumblebees and lavender for embellishment — something that matches my garden right now. The top is a freshly-made Scenic top. This fabric gave me reverse Joy Division vibes and I thought it would make for a good tee. All of the patterns (including the embroidery) are from @twigandtale. I’m part of the #TTStorytellers team and started the shorts in May when the theme was “Renew” — July’s theme is “Work in Progress” so it seemed like a fitting time to finish them. ✨ Scenic & Fernway ✨ 🇬🇧 I could not choose between colours… so I did not. I started with the orange set, in ramie fabric. I sewed the Scenic Top last year. It’s one of my favourite, if not THE favourite amongst all the top patterns I own. I procrastinated the Fernway Culottes a lot. I cut the fabric last summer and it took me about 9 months to get to sewing. As usual with Twig + Tale, it was a breeze. So I made one more set in charcoal linen, then one more in blue linen. After the first Fernway Culottes, I lengthen them so they would reach my ankles. I love that I can wear them in the same colours, and then it almost looks like a jumpsuit, or I can mix and match. They’ve been worn a lot already and they will be my uniforms this summer. . 🇫🇷 Je n’avais pas envie de choisir, alors je ne l’ai pas fait ! L’été dernier, j’ai cousu un top Scenic, en ramie orange. J’ai coupé le même tissu pour faire la jupe-culotte Fernway et… je l’ai laissé de côté. Pendant neuf mois. J’ai fini par m’y mettre et j’ai bien fait ! Comme souvent avec Twig + Tale, je me suis régalée. J’ai donc fait deux ensembles supplémentaires : le premier en lin gris, le second en bleu canard. Pour ces deux-là, j’ai allongé les jambes pour atteindre les chevilles, une longueur que je préfère. J’adore pouvoir porter chaque ensemble par couleur ou en mélangeant les hauts et les bas. Je ne vais pas les lâcher de l’été ! . Pattern: #ttscenictop and #ttfernwayculottes by @twigandtale. This is stiffer than poplin and holds pleats well. Less drapey than my OG duo in cotton linen at the bottom of my grid. This combo as a twinset is now my favourite, I could stop buying any more patterns but then I'll have to stop IG. This is my first time trying sleeves on the Ashton, not quite sure about the look as part of the twinset, might go back to sleeveless when I cut into my precious Nysakapas blockprint.

Identity I made this set of clothes for my mother. I am wearing it, and my kids are taking pictures.. I love that.. It's been so so long since i posted a new outfit. Reason being I have been just so busy with work! So I guess it's really apt I finally managed to finish and upload this set in September during @twigandtale slow sewing month! I've usually gone from pattern to choosing a fabric to completed dress in a day or less but this time round, I went the slow, mindful approach. I really wanted to use fabric i already owned so i took the time to unfold each woven fabric i own, trying to remember what I originally bought it for, thinking abt whether they suit the patterns i want to make then folding them again when my heart says no. It took me over a week to decide on these fabric and even longer to commit to cutting them. I took time to clean my sewing machine, my serger, clear my workspace, adjust the projector settings, change the blades of my rotary cutter. Each step taken during the short moments i find myself free between chores and work i brought home. ♥️ In the end, this outfit was sewn over a time span of more than a month. It's possibly the longest time i ever took on a piece of clothing i made, but I'm glad for it. I've already worn the bottoms out with another top. And perhaps i will wear the top out with a different pair of skirt instead. Batch sewing! Yesterday I cut eight garments - 7 are kid sized to get ready for summer. I love that I can repurpose fabric for baby sized items - one is made from a baby swaddle that was well used, and the others are offcuts. I've started with a few of the @twigandtale #ttDriftwoodBlouse - two blouses and one dress. Currently doing necklines on each, then just need a button and hem - and skirt for the dress. Next batch are some #ttScoutShorts and #ttfernwayculottes in breezy linens and muslins. It is quite a bit of time and detail for children's clothing, but I've sized up in hopes of getting two seasons out of them, even at this young age when they grow so quickly. It's worth it in the end - Norah picks her mama made clothes over anything else every time, and my heart grows three sizes. 🥰🥰 These pieces aren't really intended to be part of the Storyteller project, but I have to say that it has been a lot of fun to be part of this year. A thanks to @etringita for sharing your Driftwood - I have switched to making fabric loops this time and won't look back (my machine loathes elastic) - and also thanks to everyone else involved. I have learned heaps, I've enjoyed the chats, and I feel like I've made a few friends, too. You've all been fabulous. When I saw this fabric I knew I had another pair of culottes to make. I unfortunately forgot my lesson re: shorten the ties for short-length culottes, but it’ll be fine. Something funky happened to the length of the waistband (my dodgy cutting? My dodgy sewing?) so I had to add two extra pleats to the front, but very pleased with myself that that was an obvious solution rather than freaking out and making a mess of it as I probably would have a year ago. Stoked to have another pair, as we hide in the shade on another sweltering day. I adore the deep deep pockets on these. #TTfernwayculottes #twigandtale

Please note: As a Twig + Tale Storyteller, I received the Fernway pattern free to sew and share. All opinions provided are my own. It's been a long week, but this morning I managed to sneak outside and take some quick photos of the Fernway culottes I finally sewed after having them cut and waiting for an embarrassing length of time. I'm not great at words today (did I mention it's been a long week?), but these are a win in my books - the deep front pleats and elastic back waist are so comfortable, and the linen-viscose fabric I chose has plenty of drape and swish. It's rare for me to sew with neutrals, but I wanted something versatile enough to be able to wear year-round with all of my bright & patterned tops and cardigans (plus tights, in winter). I sewed a size I in the 14-38 range, and the only adjustment I made was to hem them below the knee instead of choosing the short, calf, or full length options included in the pattern. I love that @twigandtale patterns have such thoughtful details and simple, clear construction, and I was honestly surprised at how quickly these sewed up, too. I started them shortly after waking up in the morning and had them finished before noon.

A shirred romper for my little firecracker. I shirred a rectangle which was 1.5 x chest. I used the @twigandtale Fernway Cullotes and added around 5” to the top of it. Attached that to the bodice and added 4 ties. I really wanted to make a @smallmuseum_ @jessilous_closet Tate Romper for my littles but I didn’t want the fuss of zippers etc for toileting access. This was she can get in and out of it without issues! I would add more volume to the culottes for the next version. Thanks @nicnac.makes for sharing the super cute version of her mini!

Two for one today between pricking out our greenhouse babies. I've got charity shop flares and a knot dress. One of my favourite ever fabrics from being a sample Sewist for @42customfabric boy do I miss that fun! At the time I was gutted because it felt too tight because I wasnt in love with my tummy. However thanks to months of physio and healthier living I'm excited I can enjoy it now. The knot is really flattering and I'm thinking maybe i need some top length ones as well. She is wearing that rowan tee again this time paired with a skirt upcycled into twig and tale fernway culottes.
