Please note: As a Twig + Tale Storyteller, I received the Driftwood pattern free to sew and share. All opinions provided are my own. Another @twigandtale sew? Yes! Do I love it? Also yes! Driftwood has two versions, and I almost sewed the blouse - but you all know I can't resist a cute dress, and I had just enough bright green recycled rayon-linen. Like all Twig + Tale patterns, there are some lovely options; choose between a v-shaped or teardrop cut-out, neckline ties or a button-and-loop, and raglan sleeves with either narrow bands or elastic. I sewed a size J blended to an L at the waist/hip, with the bodice shortened by 3 cm. I managed to forget the button-and-loop for the neckline cut-out until after I'd applied the bias binding, and I'm still deciding whether or not to go back and sew on a hook-and-eye instead. One thing I really like is that the cut-out has an anchored facing for an easy-to-sew, clean finish. I also really like that the skirt is gathered before sewing it to the bodice and inserting elastic, as it allows for more fullness in the skirt without having to match the width in the bodice. This dress is going to be great for our ever-changing September weather. I can wear it with a denim jacket on a crisp morning (swipe for a photo), with sneakers on a warm afternoon, or with a pretty shawl when it cools in the evening.

This is the newly released #ttwildflowerpinafore @twigandtale . My granddaughter designed and drew her own wildflower meadow onto the linen and then I went to work on the embroidery. I'll let you in on a little secret - I haven't bought bias tape in years! Don't get me wrong - the accessibility and convenience of pre-made bias tape make it such a wonderful option to have available. But I find handmade bias tape so much nicer to work with, and enjoy the process of making it, so I like to make it in batches to have on hand - the best of both worlds. Have you tried making it before? I find it a great use for some of those larger offcuts you end up with while sewing. You can make it to match your project, make a fun contrast, the bias-tape world is your oyster. Or, you can have extra fun with it and make scrappy bias tape like @alittlecorner.of.mei did here! 🧵 on the way home from The Yarn Bowl birthday market a couple of weekends ago, we dropped by @thenestcommunity to see what treasures they had in store. I found this stunning fabric with its selvedge stamped 'Made in Japan', and with its lovely light drape I had a couple of metres just drop into my shopping basket 😉 Closer investigation at home revealed a sateen weave and a burn test returned a very definite cotton fibre (as I suspected) so I've been able to sew up a lovely lightweight top ready for sticky summer days. There’s a new pattern in Twig & Tale town and I couldn’t be more excited about it! I admit: I wasn’t crazy about it at first. But it definitely had something that caught my eye so I just gave it a go. Was I wrong? Yes. Absolutely. This Lorien skirt was the whimsy piece of dreams that was missing in my wardrobe. It has a twirly skirt, beautiful pockets and an adaptable waist with beautiful lacing details. What do you need more? I used a lovely linen-viscose mix for my skirt, which makes it really flowy and twirly. The colour of the fabric made me think of sand at the seaside, so I couldn’t resist to embroider some seashells, starfish and seaweed on the skirt. For details, you can check my previous post! This skirt is not a quick sew, because of all of the details, but it’s so worth it! I paired the skirt with the a driftwood blouse, also from Twig and Tale, with 3/4 sleeves and the tie ribbon. The fabric is a linen-cotton blend if I’m not mistaken, and it holds it’s shape pretty well, which makes it a nice contrast with the flowy skirt. The Lorien skirt pattern was kindly gifted to me for the purpose of this sew and show. The Driftwood blouse pattern is one I was gifted as a storyteller for Twig & Tale. ↞happy to be chosen for the #ttstorytellers team this year! this month, i thought i would finally bring to life a button front blouse with pintucks (many inspo pics have been screenshotted or pinned on pinterest for awhile now). coincidentally, i found a good deal for a Bernina pintuck foot and got to put it to use for the first time with this project. all it took was a twin needle and some winging it hehe🫡 pintucks made easy! i used the button front hack from @twigandtale ‘s #ttdriftwoodblouse in size B made in @iseefabric ‘s washed slub linen in oat. i figured since the neckline is gathered, there’d be enough ease in there to accommodate for the pintucks. topped the blouse off with a sewing label from @cosyclubhandmade because let’s be real, sewing up something you’ve only ever imagined and collected inspiration for and turning it into a reality is definitely a super power. ↠

So good to get back to the sewing machine after 6 months away. This is a button up version of @twigandtale Driftwood blouse made out of a thrifted broderie anglaise doona cover. I have made several versions of the driftwood blouse and I was keen to try the button version. I also wanted to try shirring for the first time so extended the short sleeve by three centimetres and added three rows of shirring. It was surprisingly simple. I will definitely do that again. Another two #ttdriftwoodblouse ‘s for the wardrobe. Made simultaneously today, on day 8 of Covid for me. We’ve managed to avoid giving Covid to husband or the kids, so I’m continuing to more-or-less isolate, and I am still a bit too hazy to enjoy reading or get anything much out of working, but SO BORED staying in bed, so I retreated to the sewing room today. The blue is another plaid from Mother-in-law’s de-stash. The peacock feathers I picked up I don’t even know when with I don’t know what in mind. The plaid fits really well and I’m quite happy with it. The peacock material is a bit more stiff, and though it is the same size as the plaid it doesn’t fit quite so well. I also had difficulty with the sleeve gathers on that one, so the neckline isn’t sitting quite so well. Also because it is a thicker fabric it’s much too toasty for a beautiful sunny day like today is, so might be a winter blouse. I always cringe a bit cutting right across a swathe of fabric on the diagonal to make bias binding, so today I didn’t, and instead made the binding from several little pieces sewn together to get the length, from scraps left over from cutting out the rest of the pattern. It made the binding a little chunkier, but not too bad in the end.

Almost 20 years ago I was gifted some pillowcases that were hand embroidered by my late grandmother. Those pillowcases have been languishing in a box under my bed for years because I had no idea what to do with them. Until I saw the @twigandtale Wildflower Pinafore. I just knew the classic bib would be the perfect way to showcase such precious fabric. I made the size 3 for my 2.5 yr old toddler and used a gorgeous purple rayon linen blend for the main part of the pinafore. The embroidery is on a white poly cotton. I chose to use the patch pockets and opted to put the buttons on the inside of the waistband. Oh and I paired it with a ruffled Drftwood Blouse. Talk about dreamy! 😍 I was selected for the Twig + Tale Sew + Show team where I received a free copy of the pattern in exchange for sewing up a sample and sharing my experience. As with all Twig + Tale patterns, the instructions are amazingly clear with nice photos and a video tutorial. Happy 2025! I hope you will all have a wonderful year. Next week I’m starting as a textile-teacher (syslöjd) which is scary and exciting - I’m terrified of pre-teens and teenagers, especially if they don’t nessecarily WANT to learn sewing, but also very ready to be the weird lady with the handmade clothes. I’ve been wearing a lot of dresses over tops lately so making an actual pinafore felt fitting. I let Miss Almost 3 pick the fabric and she chose this pink cotton. I don’t usually reach for pink but am loving the colour. The pattern is the new Wildflower Pinafore from @twigandtale with the Driftwood Blouse underneath. I love the look and fit and how it all came together — I flat felled the skirt side seams and otherwise everything is enclosed for a top notch finish. The perfect amount of whimsy combined with a dash of vintage, usually that’s what describes my outfits. And this full Twig and Tale outfit is not any different! This outfit is one I can imagine myself wearing a lot. It’s a perfect skirt-shirt combination. The skirt is full, but not too full. I used the Wildflower pinafore, but I omitted the bib and added beltloops in the front. Easy to dress up with a collared shirt and heels, or dress down with a t-shirt, stockings and a pair of boots. The top is the Driftwood blouse. simple, but not too plain and can be combined with almost anything. A perfect basic, I really don’t know why I didn’t make this one sooner! I shortened the long sleeves with about 10 cm to have this elbow length sleeve. The daffodils were in bloom so I took the opportunity to make pictures in between the flowers. No daffodil was harmed in the process! Patterns: #wildflowerpinafore and #driftwoodblouse , both in size I without major adaptations, shortened a few cm for my short height. Batch sewing! Yesterday I cut eight garments - 7 are kid sized to get ready for summer. I love that I can repurpose fabric for baby sized items - one is made from a baby swaddle that was well used, and the others are offcuts. I've started with a few of the @twigandtale #ttDriftwoodBlouse - two blouses and one dress. Currently doing necklines on each, then just need a button and hem - and skirt for the dress. Next batch are some #ttScoutShorts and #ttfernwayculottes in breezy linens and muslins. It is quite a bit of time and detail for children's clothing, but I've sized up in hopes of getting two seasons out of them, even at this young age when they grow so quickly. It's worth it in the end - Norah picks her mama made clothes over anything else every time, and my heart grows three sizes. 🥰🥰 These pieces aren't really intended to be part of the Storyteller project, but I have to say that it has been a lot of fun to be part of this year. Here's my second entry for #sewaprilblouse24 ! I loved the one @juliaallissoncost made (last pic) so much, I've been dreaming of making my own ever since. I had all of the pieces except the back cut out for several weeks and then I ordered another piece to finish the back. The sleeve and front pieces are done in the large scale print and the back was done in mini scale. If I could do it again, I would have done the sleeves in mini scale instead of the back. Live and learn! I still love this blouse and am also really happy about the photo my son took of me while visiting my in laws in the Balkans. Experiment, parts 2 & 3. Experiments are about learning something new. I’ve learned a lot from this one, including that I have a lot more to learn about dyeing if it’s something I want to get good at. I’m not sure I have the time or capacity for that right now, but I can appreciate the art of it on a new level. These started all white. I posted previously about how my efforts to dye them with vegetables were less than stellar. So I got some Rit (readily available) and dyed them sage green. They came out okay but not super even and with a lot of dark splotches. I think this likely means I didn’t stir it enough, even though I felt like I was doing a lot of stirring! While I was super happy with the patterns and the garment construction, I wasn’t completely sold on the results of the dye, so I decided to continue the experiment, and set the kids up with fabric paint and instructions to paint their own shirts. Not having any rules or expectations of the end result was freeing and they had a blast. The beauty of experiments is that sometimes they don’t work out. I made this @twigandtale Harbour Top and Driftwood Blouse with cotton fabric and thread with plans to experiment with natural dyes. I used beet for the Driftwood and spinach for the Harbour. The other one (blue - I can’t show you the full garment just yet) is red cabbage. The image of the shirts being worn is before dyeing, the other two are after. I found a bunch of instructions that all matched up. I followed all the steps, but made the dye more concentrated than suggested. I let everything sit overnight. The results? Less than what I was expecting. The garments themselves are super sweet. @TwigAndTale Driftwood Blouse in 100% cotton deadstock “bone boho cotton lawn eyelet” fabric purchased specifically for this pattern in July 2023 from @LyricalFabrics. Worked hard to get the eyelet patterns to fall in the right places! ✂️SEWING NOTES: Size F. Lowered armpit by ½” following very helpful instructions on their blog (search for “Post-Mastectomy: Lowering an armhole”). Shortened length by 5”. Shortened sleeves by 8”. Used narrow 1/4" elastic in cuffs. Shortened the slit by half an inch. Next time, would sew ties narrower. Trimmed the facing off by three inches so the edge line wouldn’t show through across the bust as it has in past Driftwoods. I also didn’t overlock the raw edge for the same reason; just trimmed it with pinking shears. This was my third Driftwood. Getting the gathers right around the collar is key. Try it on before sewing bias binding, and then try it on again after sewing first side of bias binding. Thank goodness I never had to pick out any seams; with the embroidery around all the eyelets, it would have been impossible! #driftwoodblouse #ttdriftwoodblouse

My April #TTStorytellers project is finished. I had so much fun making this little outfit! I was originally worried that the fabrics I chose weren’t going to be very cohesive, but now I think they look pretty cute together. This was my first time playing around with appliqué on clothing. It took about 2-3 hours for me to do all of the appliqué and I am loving the result! I think there will be more appliqué in my future. I also chose to bind the keyhole neckline instead of facing it, so it doesn’t lay quite right with a button and loop so I just decided to leave it open. We spent an afternoon at the lake so this little outfit is well broken in already. It was a bit harder than I was expecting to take photos of my little lady wearing her outfit, but I think I got a few good ones. Patterns used are Twig and Tale Child Driftwood and Pixie Essentials. I have made several Driftwood Blouses and I still felt that I could use another because the long-sleeved ones I’ve made have gotten so much mileage. I've found that cotton lawn and voile are the best materials to make them with for the hottest summer days where I need my arms covered. (🦟+☀️) This time I finger pleated the neckline instead of doing gathers. I think the look might be a little more refined. I've been drooling over this fabric for a while and finally pulled the trigger and bought it from @cloth_edit! I got as much as I could out of 1 yard by cutting the sleeves in two pieces. I did have to add a little bit of gray fabric from my stash to the bottom back piece. I flat felled all of the seams to join the fabrics and did French seams for everything else (as the pattern instructions call for), so the raw edges are completely enclosed. @TwigAndTale Driftwood Blouse in Nani Iro Lei Nani cotton lawn in Scarlet B from @loomandstars. This fabric has a subtle pearlescent ink printed overtop some of the flowers (see final pic). It feels a little stiff, and I’m looking forward to it softening up with wear. Label by @kylieandthemachine. ✂️SEWING NOTES: Size F. Both of my girls have only ever known farm living. After their births they were brought home to our family farm; their point of origin, and mine as well. I spent my first handful of years living on this same farm but back then it was a grain farm. It had no animals other than a couple of dogs and a cat. I’m thankful that my girls get to grow up alongside the critters we care for. They get to love on them daily and it makes my mama heart so happy to see how gentle and caring they are. One day when Juliet is an adult and brings this little outfit out of her keepsake box, I hope it brings back memories of snuggling Todd the goose and all of the other fond remembrances of her farm origins. I made a #ttdriftwoodblouse that has a special meaning. I chose this @twigandtale pattern because I needed something nursing-friendly. The fabric is a crêpe de chine that I've had for several years. I think this colour is called mauve (between a light violet and a pale pink). I love the dandelion design and only recently learned that this flower is a symbol of letting go and of new beginnings. It's fitting because for health reasons I just had to make the decision to stop breastfeeding. This comes much earliear than I had planned and makes me a bit sad, but I'm trying to be as positive as I can about letting go of nursing and focusing on the ‘new normal’ for me and my baby. I love how the blouse turned out and I have to tell you that I'm very proud of the button holes I made. I took my time and it really paid off. I took this pattern and added a peplum ruffle at the shorten or lengthen line. I am deeply inspired by historical garments and currently obsessed with empire waist styles. I have been wanting a top like the #mmclover for a long time. Instead of buying the pattern, I decided to hack the #ttdriftwoodblouse and am so happy with the results. I put a drawstring casing in the neckline vs the gathered bound neckline in the pattern. I lengthened the sleeves, left off the elastic and widened the top at the hemline. It's a nice relaxed fit sewn up in linen. This top was the perfect canvas for the new #insectpatches embroidery pattern also by @twigandtale . I chose to embroider the hoverfly and the dragonfly in white floss so that they would pop against the blue. The new pattern includes illustrations as well as video stitching lessons. WIP Wednesday. Can you tell I am inspired by the new year and not having school lunches to pack or work to do? 🤣 My aim, at this early stage, is to finish an item per week. April 2023 makes part 1: Matching dresses for two sisters. These are #ttdriftwooddress by @twigandtale with modified neckline and made into A line dresss. What I loved about this pattern was the various options you can make, from blouse to dress, to different necklines and style. Look at how this @twigandtale Driftwood dress transforms from the perfect summer play dress into a magical leaf fairy ~ Every year for the Renaissance Faire, my daughter Sprout designs us matching costumes. It started as a “let's match at the Faire” and has turned into a full yearly tradition of designing, workshopping, and project management lessons. When she showed me her design, I knew that a Twig and Tale dress would be perfect! We made the Driftwood dress from an airy, hand-dyed linen. At Sprout’s request, I made a sleeve modification for sensory accommodations (the sleeve in its original instructions gathers into a sweet and charming bishop-style sleeve). After the Faire, she will use the costume parts for years in her dress-up box, and any of the base layers get added into her wardrobe until she outgrows them (at a rate that feels far too fast for my heart), so I like to build them to last! It's truly one of my favorite things, getting to collaborate with her, transforming her ideas into something tangible and beautiful, something we both get to play with and share! #TTStorytellers #TTDriftwoodDress #SewYourStory

Perhaps an odd question but...have you ever found your sewing practice inspired by scarcity? It can take lots of forms - not being able to find quite the "perfect" material. Limiting yourself to materials you have "stashed" away. Or, like this Driftwood Dress by Storyteller @serene.folk - not having "enough" fabric! While easy to let these limitations put a damper on the creative process, they can also ignite it, providing an opportunity for problem solving that sometimes, leaves you even more inspired than you were to begin with. All it took for @serene.folk was a bit of patience, and some time spent laying out the material, to realize that simply piecing the back skirt would give her just what she needed to create this gorgeous dress to stunning effect. Batch sewing! Yesterday I cut eight garments - 7 are kid sized to get ready for summer. I love that I can repurpose fabric for baby sized items - one is made from a baby swaddle that was well used, and the others are offcuts. I've started with a few of the @twigandtale #ttDriftwoodBlouse - two blouses and one dress. Currently doing necklines on each, then just need a button and hem - and skirt for the dress. Next batch are some #ttScoutShorts and #ttfernwayculottes in breezy linens and muslins. It is quite a bit of time and detail for children's clothing, but I've sized up in hopes of getting two seasons out of them, even at this young age when they grow so quickly. It's worth it in the end - Norah picks her mama made clothes over anything else every time, and my heart grows three sizes. 🥰🥰 These pieces aren't really intended to be part of the Storyteller project, but I have to say that it has been a lot of fun to be part of this year. A thanks to @etringita for sharing your Driftwood - I have switched to making fabric loops this time and won't look back (my machine loathes elastic) - and also thanks to everyone else involved. I have learned heaps, I've enjoyed the chats, and I feel like I've made a few friends, too. You've all been fabulous. A friend of mine threw me a baby shower yesterday so it gave me an excuse to make myself a dress and get a little dolled up! I had my SIL snap a few pictures for me even though it was a bit windy outside. This is a modified Driftwood Dress. I won’t share details yet, as I want to make another one to “perfect” it but I am pretty pleased with how it turned out! I made it with a thrifted egyptian cotton bed sheet that was a pale minty green. My goal was to dye it a burgundy ish color but it turned out way different than I wanted. I was going to go over it with brown dye to tone it down because this is not a color I’d ever normally wear, but my husband really liked it so I ended up leaving it as is. Me Made May Day 10! I did not wear this all day (I wore another me made outfit) but I just finished my first #TTDriftwoodDress so I wanted to take some pictures. The only alteration I did was add a casing on the waist to use a drawstring instead of elastic and sewed with a 1/2in seam allowance on the waist instead of 1in. I’m really happy with the result but I think next time I will raise the waist up an inch or so if I do a drawstring waist again and use the next size up cuff bands so the sleeves are a tiny bit roomier. A Ruby Red Shoes dress for my 4yo. I mean, that’s how it started. My girls all love @missrubyredshoes . DRIFTWOOD DRESS: A first-day-of-school collab! M started kindergarten this week. We decided to make a special dress to celebrate her first day. I picked the pattern - the lovely Driftwood dress/blouse from Twig + Tale - and she picked the fabric, the length, the oversized collar (here for #collardrama), and (of course) the accessories. Most T+T patterns come with several views, options, and ideas to try. There are a lot of fun interpretations out there! For this version, I hacked the sleeves to add small ruffles (a detail I picked up from @sewariasew). For the sake of comfort / personal preference, we omitted the elastic waist. Soaking up the days when she still wants to wear things I make for her. 🥹 This is my third project as part of the 2024 T+T Storytellers crew and our theme this month is transitions. I think I may have found my perfect dress. This is my absolute favourite colour. The material is beautiful to the touch and beautiful to sew. The dress is comfy enough for hanging out at home and chasing children around but I can also see it being worn … um, out? If I ever get out 🤣 It is child-approved as it has gathers and it twirls. It is easy to get on and off - so easy that I haven’t needed to undo the button so with my next one I may omit that feature. I didn’t do a great job on the skirt attachment so I may just redo that. But, all in all, I love this dress! A new dress for B and I'm really pleased with how it's turned out! I needed to fill up B's wardrobe more than ever (she's obviously fast outgrowing my sewing pace 😬) and was pondering my next sew when I heard about the new NZ flowers embroidery collection from @twigandtale ... Needless to say, I was instantly won over 🙃 I decided to stitch the beautiful and regal Pōhutukawa flowers. It was a joy to sew, using a few simple but quintessential embroidery stitches to create all the different textures and highlight the sheen of the threads. There is a good amount of sizes and design variations within the template, which makes it easily adaptable to any part of a garment/project. The recommended colours are thoughtfully put together too, and it was a easy decision to go with this deep blue linen in my stash 😍 (It did, however, took all the limited camera skills I had to photograph the dark colours, but that's story for another day 😂) I added a belt and some thread loops to this A-Line dress, which is an easy and fun 'hack' of the Driftwood blouse from the T+T blog, to make the most of this beautiful fabric 💙✨ I think T+T has done such a great job to create this embroidery collection of wonderfully unique flowers of New Zealand! 💚 It has been an absolute pleasure to sew this as part of the sampling team - I can only wish to see these amazing flowers in person one day ... So pleased to share my version of the Driftwood dress that I completed for the July Twig and Tale Storytellers theme of “work in progress”. I usually tend to work on one project at a time but as of late I have been having multiple projects on the go. I find that I generally like to focus on one thing at a time but I am learning to manage multiple projects. As of late, I’ve come to realize I am a bit more productive when I chip away at multiple projects at a time. While cutting out the pattern pieces for my driftwood I made an error with how much fabric I needed for the skirt and felt a bit stuck with what to do to correct my miscalculation. What I thought was going to be a quick sew ended up taking me a few weeks to sort out. If I hadn’t adopted the practice of multiple projects on the go, I would have likely made a rush decision to simply just move on which didn’t align. I enjoyed sitting with my mistake and letting the resolution take time to come to me. In the end, I decided to use off cuts of my fabric to make panels for the back of the skirt instead of one solid panel. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out and the dress is so fun to wear. This theme and this project and really allowed me to explore the joy of the process of sewing and pivoting if the need is there. No rush, just letting things be. Just finishing up my first project for @twigandtale Storytellers 2024! This is the #driftwoodblouse that I made out of a reclaimed curtain. This cotton is a little coarser and stiffer than I might usually choose, but it gives the project a very different character. My latest driftwood blouse from @twigandtale fabric is a cotton broderie anglaise remnant I picked up about 18 months ago from @drapersfabrics in Melbourne. Pirate or Poet? This is my Driftwood Blouse by @twigandtale in a rayon linen from @spotlightstores I wanted a loose light-coloured linen blouse in my travel capsule for the hot weather days, and the romantic explorer vibes of the Driftwood appealed to me. My first version in a pebble linen gauze from @theremnantwarehouse (see last pic) wasn’t hitting the mark. I didn’t cut the armscye correctly and it was too big, too long and too stiff and scratchy. So I sized down to size M, took 3” off the hem length and opted for a softer fabric with better drape. I also changed the sleeves, using the @stylearc Belle as inspiration. That is a set in sleeve and Driftwood is a raglan, so I kinda layered the pattern pieces over each other to draft it and then sewed in 5 rows of shirring space 1/4” apart. Somehow I sewed the shirring at completely different points on each sleeve length but once they are pushed up on my arms it’s not super noticeable. Welcome February and welcome to the new @seamwork pattern, the Dara Blouse! As a #seamworkambassador I get early access to patterns, but I only sew up the ones I want to sew. I’m really excited about the #seamworkdara because it’s a similar style to my much beloved #driftwoodblouse with some key differences. I love the deeper and wider neck of the Dara Blouse, and the fit resolves the one problem I have with the Driftwood - it doesn’t ride up in the front and shift backwards on my shoulders throughout the day. I remain devoted to the chemise style blouse, and I like having more neckline options in my pattern collection! Other differences include comparatively wider sleeves in the Dara and optional instructions for inset lace that I want to try! I sewed a size 12, but this is a pattern where I could have comfortably sized down, and I likely will in future. I ended up shortening the neckband some to make the neck opening a bit smaller all around. New top today. This is the Driftwood Blouse by @twigandtale in a beautiful rayon batik I got from @stylemakerfabrics The pattern was an easy sew and the results look great. I love a peasant blouse. I will say that I’m not a fan of tucking my top in and the length of this blouse feels a little frumpy as is. Nancy wanted to make a #giantflowertextile California Poppy blouse in bamboo cotton gauze similar to mine (last pic) but wanted to include both my large scale panel and the small scale poppies as well. She placed the large poppies on the front and sleeves and the small poppies on the back! Yet another beautiful #DriftwoodBlouse from @twigandtale. I did the short sleeves with a cuff. Added a little length (and now think it's a bit too long!) I am a little worried that I made the V a little too low 😬😬 Fabric is beautiful cotton lawn from @fabricdeluxe (which just reminded me, they're having a 30% off sale until midnight. I better get on that quick smart!)

@TwigAndTale Driftwood Blouse in Nani Iro Lei Nani cotton lawn in Scarlet B from @loomandstars. This fabric has a subtle pearlescent ink printed overtop some of the flowers (see final pic). It feels a little stiff, and I’m looking forward to it softening up with wear. Label by @kylieandthemachine. ✂️SEWING NOTES: Size F. Lowered armpit by ½” following very helpful instructions on their blog (search for “Post-Mastectomy: Lowering an armhole”). Shortened by 5”. Shortened sleeves by 1”. Used longer 8” elastic at wrists. Shortened the slit by half an inch, but would make it even shorter next time. Pattern notes: This was my second Driftwood. Getting the gathers right around the collar is key. Try it on before sewing bias binding, and then try it on again after sewing first side of bias bindind. The front facing doesn’t show through as a line across the bust in this cotton lawn the way it did in a heavier chambray. #driftwoodblouse #ttdriftwoodblouse #leinani

Why hello there 👋🏻 I often pop into stories but it’s an age since I dropped into the grid. It seems there are a lot of new folk here -welcome if that’s you. I’m Wendy the owner, chief fabric fondler and maker here at The Next Stitch , living and working on Wiradjuri Country. Here’s a few things about me: I have two pugs: Thelma and Joe, who will either be snoozing under my cutting table or barking at the delivery guy 🙄 I’ve had an almost life-long love affair with needle and thread. I remember embroidering with my Grandma on the back verandah and her being impressed by my neat stitches. She was quite the matriarch, so that little bit of praise filled me with pride and I was off and running. Later I was given a Semco pre-printed doilie kit for my 8th birthday, and this was well before then, so perhaps I was 7 at the time Before that, when I was 6 I worked a chicken scratch design on the pocket and around the hem of a black gingham apron for the Coonamble agricultural show. My older sister made a red on- I was sooooo jealous of that red 😂 For many years I knitted, crocheted and cross-stitched before joining a quilting class in 1991. I had just purchased a brand new Bernina and tho that I would be great to use it and make a quilt. It was a hand piecing class though! 😆 Fast forward 30+ years and different careers as an RN/midwife, project manager, public servant and people manager and here I am mKing a living in the quilting industry. To this day, I remain obsessed with all of the creative possibilities of both fixed pattern patchwork as well as the freedom of improv and narrative quilts. I’ve been endeavouring to make more of my own clothes for the past few years. I recently got an embroidery machine, and have been playing around with it. I was reminded of some blouses I had as a kid, white or dark blue cotton with puffy sleeves and large floral embroidery round the neckline, which my parents bought in Portugal. Here's my second entry for #sewaprilblouse24 ! I loved the one @juliaallissoncost made (last pic) so much, I've been dreaming of making my own ever since. I had all of the pieces except the back cut out for several weeks and then I ordered another piece to finish the back. The sleeve and front pieces are done in the large scale print and the back was done in mini scale. If I could do it again, I would have done the sleeves in mini scale instead of the back. Live and learn! I still love this blouse and am also really happy about the photo my son took of me while visiting my in laws in the Balkans. I've found that cotton lawn and voile are the best materials to make them with for the hottest summer days where I need my arms covered. (🦟+☀️) This time I finger pleated the neckline instead of doing gathers. I think the look might be a little more refined. I've been drooling over this fabric for a while and finally pulled the trigger and bought it from @cloth_edit! I got as much as I could out of 1 yard by cutting the sleeves in two pieces. I did have to add a little bit of gray fabric from my stash to the bottom back piece. I flat felled all of the seams to join the fabrics and did French seams for everything else (as the pattern instructions call for), so the raw edges are completely enclosed. Endelig kom jeg i mål med min Driftwood af @susiehaumann . Jeg har strikket on off på blusen over 2 år med meeeeget lange pauser indimellem m. Hvorfor ved jeg egentlig ikke, for jeg er stadig lige begejstret for blusens udtryk og syntes mønstret var nemt at strikke. Strikket i Saga fra Filcolana og dermed noget helt andet end i den originale opskrift . @TwigAndTale Driftwood Blouse in 100% cotton deadstock “bone boho cotton lawn eyelet” fabric purchased specifically for this pattern in July 2023 from @LyricalFabrics. Worked hard to get the eyelet patterns to fall in the right places! ✂️SEWING NOTES: Size F. Lowered armpit by ½” following very helpful instructions on their blog (search for “Post-Mastectomy: Lowering an armhole”). Shortened length by 5”. Shortened sleeves by 8”. Used narrow 1/4" elastic in cuffs. Shortened the slit by half an inch. Next time, would sew ties narrower. Trimmed the facing off by three inches so the edge line wouldn’t show through across the bust as it has in past Driftwoods. I also didn’t overlock the raw edge for the same reason; just trimmed it with pinking shears. This was my third Driftwood. Getting the gathers right around the collar is key. Try it on before sewing bias binding, and then try it on again after sewing first side of bias binding. Thank goodness I never had to pick out any seams; with the embroidery around all the eyelets, it would have been impossible! #driftwoodblouse #ttdriftwoodblouse

My April #TTStorytellers project is finished. I had so much fun making this little outfit! I was originally worried that the fabrics I chose weren’t going to be very cohesive, but now I think they look pretty cute together. This was my first time playing around with appliqué on clothing. It took about 2-3 hours for me to do all of the appliqué and I am loving the result! I think there will be more appliqué in my future. I also chose to bind the keyhole neckline instead of facing it, so it doesn’t lay quite right with a button and loop so I just decided to leave it open. We spent an afternoon at the lake so this little outfit is well broken in already. It was a bit harder than I was expecting to take photos of my little lady wearing her outfit, but I think I got a few good ones. Patterns used are Twig and Tale Child Driftwood and Pixie Essentials. This was the first @twigandtale #driftwoodblouse that I made.. but I was never very happy with the neckline - it was too big and gapey.. When I made my recent one I had the same issue (but not with all varieties). I decided to unpick the bias and start again. I matched it up with the button-up version and am much happier with both of them (I fixed the recent one too). Not a new sew, but satisfying knowing it may get more wear now #SewSheProcrastinates

I’ve been wearing a lot of dresses over tops lately so making an actual pinafore felt fitting. I let Miss Almost 3 pick the fabric and she chose this pink cotton. I don’t usually reach for pink but am loving the colour. The pattern is the new Wildflower Pinafore from @twigandtale with the Driftwood Blouse underneath. I love the look and fit and how it all came together — I flat felled the skirt side seams and otherwise everything is enclosed for a top notch finish. The perfect amount of whimsy combined with a dash of vintage, usually that’s what describes my outfits. And this full Twig and Tale outfit is not any different! This outfit is one I can imagine myself wearing a lot. It’s a perfect skirt-shirt combination. The skirt is full, but not too full. I used the Wildflower pinafore, but I omitted the bib and added beltloops in the front. Easy to dress up with a collared shirt and heels, or dress down with a t-shirt, stockings and a pair of boots. The top is the Driftwood blouse. simple, but not too plain and can be combined with almost anything. A perfect basic, I really don’t know why I didn’t make this one sooner! I shortened the long sleeves with about 10 cm to have this elbow length sleeve. The daffodils were in bloom so I took the opportunity to make pictures in between the flowers. No daffodil was harmed in the process! Patterns: #wildflowerpinafore and #driftwoodblouse , both in size I without major adaptations, shortened a few cm for my short height. Willkommen zu einem weiteren Tag „Karo näht cosplay und wird es mangels Gelegenheit nie tragen“ 😂 Im Sommer waren wir auf einem Mittelalterfest und mein Mann meinte zu mir: „Das du noch keine Gewandung genäht hast, wundert mich ja schon ein bisschen…“ Das konnte ich so natürlich nicht auf mir sitzen lassen und so hab ich mich schon kurz darauf auf die Suche nach passenden Stoffen und Schnittmustern gemacht. Das Schnittmuster für die Bluse hatte ich bereits, es ist die #driftwoodblouse von #twigandtale Auch der Rock ist von dort, das Schnittmuster #meadowskirt Für das Mieder wurde ich bei etsy fündig, leider war ich damit nicht ganz zufrieden und musste einiges anpassen und improvisieren.
