Happy New Year’s Eve! I was able to create one last make in 2024 and it was on a whim 😀 While I’m not going out to celebrate NYE, I decided I could still dress up a bit for the night. I’ve had this crushed velvet for 5 years so it was aged well enough to put to use finally 😆 I used the @twigandtale Vista top pattern and lantern sleeve add-on which I think is a perfect look for this velvet top! And this was my first attempt at a blind hem and I’m super happy with the results. Please note: As a Twig + Tale Storyteller, I received the Vista pattern free to sew and share. All opinions provided are my own. So we finally had a day that wasn't either flat-out rain or wild cold wind, and was able to take a few photos of the @twigandtale Vista I finished a couple of weeks ago. It's such a pretty blouse, especially with the pleated sleeve from the Vista + Scenic add-on - the pleats are still beautifully defined in the super-light Swiss dot I chose, but it does soften the drama that a more structured fabric might bring. I'm so pleased with it. It wasn't quite warm enough for either capris or a light blouse today, despite the sun, but once summer sets in I have a feeling this will be a staple for me. I can wear it with skirts, jeans, loose pants, and even over tank dresses on cooler evenings. I sewed a size H blended to a J at the waist/hip with no other adjustments save for the hem - rather than a double fold, I cut strips on the bias from the leftover fabric. Bias facing is my favourite way to finish a curved hem - I usually use prepackaged single-fold tape but what I had on hand was neither light nor flexible enough. The pleated sleeve is very quick and easy to sew. There are notches for the pleats and the sleeve, where it attaches to the cap, is drafted so it folds into a smooth curve. And speaking of curves, the v-neck has a slight one, too, so it's not quite as sharp as it would be otherwise. I like that a lot. The original Vista pattern has fluffy sleeves in either elbow or bracelet length, and then the add-on gives six more variations from short cuff to lantern.

New top! It's the Vista by @twigandtale and fabric by @joli.e.boho! This pattern has been a struggle! The instructions are beautifully written and illustrated and you can feel the love Twig and Tale have for their brand. But the amount of ease in the pattern in combination with my body type have been a nightmare. This is my 3rd version and the first one that comes close to what I had in mind. I did an fba, lengthened the bodice, did a small shoulder adjustment and took out a lot of ease. The lovely fabric is a cotton plumetis with little lavender flowers. I ordered it thinking it was white but it's actually a creamy yellowwhite. One of the downsides of ordering from your mobile screen 😁 All in all, I am proud I didn't give up and made a nice summery top! ✨ Vista Dress ✨ 🇬🇧 Last spring I made a dress I knew I wouldn’t be wearing much until autumn was here. Now is the time. A Vista Top by Twig + Tale turned into a fine-ribbed corduroy dress was what I wanted at the time, as the weather was getting warmer and long sleeves were getting uncomfortable. Now it’s chilly and I’m wearing it happily. I have completed my first Vista top in a lightweight linen and it came together beautifully. The Vista top is a @twigandtale pattern, which I received for free as a member of the T+T Storyteller team. For the month of April the storyteller theme was color. I was so inspired by all the lovely ways the storytellers used color and decided to go outside of my comfort zone to make myself a top in a bright fabric. I originally planned to sew this up with a colorful cotton jersey knit but ultimately decided against it. I’ve never sewn with jersey knit and I wanted a fabric with a bit more drape for this pattern. I love sewing linen. It’s so easy and lovely to work with plus it’s so comfortable to wear. At the start of this project I was a bit intimidated by the V neck and long sleeves but I found the tutorial was so easy to follow along with that I found myself simply enjoying and trusting the process. I had a little hiccup with attaching the front and back which I turned to my handy seam ripper to sort out in no time. Finally got around to taking pictures of my second @twigandtale Storytellers project, a checkered linen #TTVistaTop 🩷💚🧡🤍 This pattern was gifted to me as part of @twigandtale’s Storyteller program in exchange for posting. May’s theme is Everyday Magic, and to me, the process of sewing a linen garment is as magical as it gets. My wardrobe is almost entirely natural fibers, and linen is my absolute favorite to wear. I don’t think I would ever find a garment quite like this in a store which makes it all the more magical! Pattern: Twig + Tale Vista top, size L with the bracelet length sleeve, curved hem, and no adjustments. This is definitely my new go-to v-neck bodice! This pattern has a really fun and clean way of finishing the neckline that I find soooo satisfying to sew. I have always had a special connection to whales. I think they are beautiful creatures, gentle giants and they have fascinated me. I discovered this cotton fabric at @spotlightstores a while ago and instantly bought it without actually thinking what I was going to make with it, I just knew I loved the whales on it. . Fast forward a month and a very special person to our family passed away. Turns out, our loved one also had a connection with whales which went to the forefront of my mind. I wanted to make something to show respect to her and something bright to remember her positive attitude by. Out came my treasured whale fabric. . I made the Vista Top from @twigandtale with the flared short sleeve and curved hem. I like my tops a bit longer so I always tend to extend the lengths of tops I make for me. I really loved making this top and took my time making sure it was just right. . I really enjoyed creating the new Wildflower Pinafore from Twig and Tale, the bunny I have embroidered on the front is from their embroidery collection too. I love sewing with Twig and Tale, their patterns are designed with upcycling in mind and this pinafore is no exception. I have used a bedsheet keeping the piping details to embellish the hem and bib front, this also meant I didn’t have to hem which is always a win. There is so much fabric in a bedsheet that I could have made two. I have paired this wildflower with a long sleeve Vista top also by Twig and Tale but it looks fantastic over their Scenic top too. This pattern was gifted to me as part of the Twig and Tale sew and show team, it has been amazing watching everyone’s creations come together. PS: It has pockets!!!! I'm just waiting on a packet of D rings to finish the belt on this #bernadetteskirt by #fridaypatterncompany with it's cute little belt bag. Already made a #ttvistatop by #twigandtale with the sleeve add-on pattern's cuffed sleeves to use the rest of this fabric. There's another Bernadette Skirt hanging behind it which I suspect will go to a slightly shorter young lady that I know.

Babywearing is getting more infrequent these days — especially with the big kid. But sometimes even a four year old just needs to be held. It doesn’t make sense for me to put time into babywearing specific clothes. When I saw the Overland Cloak design from @twigandtale, one of of my thoughts was that it would be perfect with or without a kid being worn, no alterations needed. I was right. This is made from a worsted wool I thrifted ages ago and a cotton lining. I made the knee length version in size 1 (I’m usually a size E in Twig and Tale’s patterns) and it’s perfect. I love how the pattern came together. This would be a great sew to get into outerwear making. And yes, it has pockets. The wrap is handwoven by @seawaterweaving. My April #TTStorytellers project - a Vista top using this beautiful floral cotton lawn 🤗. I used yellow thread for all the seams and topstitching, and a yellow hedgehog 🦔 label (🥺) which gives me SO much joy. I love the shape and the depth of the V-neck so I think this will by go-to base for V-neck tops. Oh and I used the included sleeve pattern this time because it’s dramatic as-is, but there’s also the option to use one of the #TTSprigSleeveAddOn sleeves in case you want to switch it up. I’ll be using one of those for my next storytellers project (a #TTFableDress) so you’ll get to see that soon! Speaking of sleeves - I made the elbow-length version. Because the hem is elasticated, you can adjust them to sit just above or just below the elbow, which affects the volume you get. Pulling them above the elbows gives a kind of fluffy bubble sleeve effect ☁️ (2nd photo). l am so delighted that I was chosen to be one of the testers for the Solstice Dress and Top pattern by @folkstead which is now available! I have been eagerly waiting for this pattern as Stacey, the creator, makes the most gorgeous dresses and tops from vintage and secondhand textiles which I absolutely love. This pattern comes with two versions - with French seams and without. I was pleased that the pattern not only has a print at home and copy shop options but also a projector file which is my primary method for pattern transfer to cut my fabric. I made a cotton/linen blend top with French seams. I had such a lovely time sewing this top. I found the pattern was a breeze to follow. Clear and concise with useful tips along the way. I have a couple vintage tablecloths I’m pretty keen to sew into Solstice dresses in the near future. ~ Color ~ This month the T&T storyteller theme is “color”. I have been so inspired by this month’s theme dreaming up a few fun projects with this lovely jersey knit fabric I bought a while back. I rarely wear bright colors such as these; I’m more of a earthy, muted tones kind of gal. I just love neutral and I can’t resist olive, blush and rust. I find them so warm and comforting. However, I do appreciate a pop of vibrant color as I find it to be fun and playful. I am thinking of sewing the Twig and Tale Vista top in one of these fabrics. I think it will be a bit outside of my comfort zone as I have never made the vista top nor have I sewn with jersey fabric, but I’m up for the challenge. On the last day of the month, I present to you my @twigandtale Vista Top made from a precious fabric that had been sitting in my stash for the last 5 years. The #preciousfabric24 challenge hosted by @tomkatstitcherycarmel was just what I needed to finally turn this beautiful silk viscose into something wearable. I love it! Especially those flouncy sleeves. They're part of a sleeve add-on you can get that works both for the #ttvistatop and for the #ttscenictop. I was afraid I could mess up the V-Neck because the fabric is so slippery, but I'm happy to report that there are no puckers at all. I could do with a few more centimetres in lenght, but that was all the fabric I had.
