✨ Grove Coat ✨ 🇬🇧 When I started sewing, about 5 years ago, I never dreamt I would one day make a coat. It felt so out-of-reach it was not even a goal. Two years ago, for the first time, the thought popped in my head: maybe I’ll try sewing a coat, one day? Around that time I found a great deal for some bright yellow wool and I impulsively bought it. I did try a first pattern, but that project is on the work-in-progress pile and I haven’t found the will to pick it up. Then Twig + Tale released their pack of collars for their Grove Coat. It was love at first sight for the funnel collar. So I took the bright yellow wool from the closet and I jumped in. As always with T+T, it was easy and stress-free. For the lining, I chose a fabric I got a while ago, not knowing it was a reference to the Naruto manga. It earned me some knowing look in the streets, that’s a bonus! Now I can’t wait to make more coats! . 🪡 pattern: #ttgrovecoat by @twigandtale / fabric by @tissusferrari . 🇫🇷 Quand j’ai commencé la couture, il y a quasiment cinq ans, je n’imaginais pas une seule seconde que je ferai un jour un manteau. Ça me paraissait surréaliste et complètement inatteignable. . #ttstorytellers #sewingproject #sewingaddict #sewingcoat #yellow #jecoudsmagarderobe #jecoudspourmoi #couture

I have a new winter coat, and yes… it kept me warm these last few days where the windchill was almost-40C! It was surprisingly easy to sew. I took the time for some hand embroidered flowers on the collar and chose to use the statement collar (which I hacked to have the scalloped edge). Some beautiful floral buttons really make me happy 😊. Speaking of happy, this orange colour is happiness itself!!! I did add an extra liner of thinsulate because it gets down right chilly here in Alberta! #ttgrovecoat #twigandtale #fabricville

Happy new year. The weather in the uk has been wet and windy for what feels like forever, dark too. So the minute there was a break we made the most of it with a walk in the woods and mr bombles let me take some pictures of his new coat. He loves the duffel vibe and insisted on reusing the buttons from his last coat. This one is boiled wool I was gifted from Minerva, he chose the taupe colour, and I lined it with some suiting from my stash. The grove coat is a firm favourite with him, and he is looking grown up in this, the smallest mens size. #minervamaker #minervamakes #minervabrandambassador #ttgrovecoat #sewingforwinter #sewingforboys

#outerwearcoats for #sewapril2024 I made this @twigandtale Grove coat #ttgrovecoat 1,5 years ago and I’ve worn it a lot. It was a great sewing experience to make it because the pattern came together so well. There is a video tutorial for the whole process and when I watched it I didn’t even have to read the instructions. And I didn’t have to tweak a thing! The coat is really nice to wear, with a good length, good fit around the shoulders, big pockets and a comfy and cute hood. Try it! The burgundy wool is from my stash (may originally have been from @tygaffaren ). The pink cotton flannel that I used for lining is thrifted from @rodakorsetkungsbacka. Have you ever completed a project, stepped back, and thought "Wow - I did that!"? That's the story @lismel shared about this Grove Coat - when she started sewing, she didn't even know to think it possible to make her own coat, and now here it is! And, oh, does it look extra-cosy with the added Funnel collar from the Collar Add-on. 💛 What about you - what was your "I did that!" moment? I'd love to hear below! ⬇

I spent Sunday making a Grove Coat (#ttgrovecoat) in Size 5 for my littlest chick. I enjoyed creating a Mermaid inspired Grove Coat - completing some ocean themed embroidery on the front and hood. I opted for press studs over buttons so little miss can take the coat on and off herself (coloured studs chosen by Kailey of course). . The exterior blanket was one I found in an op shop for only $6!! I love the cool colours in it, which matches so many possibilities for a lining fabric. The lining is a satin The Little Mermaid fabric that has just been sitting in my stash. . I chose to make the Sea Shell Pockets from the Kea Pocket add on by @twigandtale to keep with the ocean theme and they definitely did not disappoint. . It is so cute when I make something for Kailey now she wants to do a modelling session - this time, in the rain. Even though she wasn't feeling well, she still wanted to jump around in her new coat in the puddles and miserable weather. I can see this coat getting lots of wear come winter! . Now to get cracking on Frankie's coat as requested but I may have a few other projects to finish first! . . . #twigandtale #ttkeapockets #sageandrosedesignsau #sageandrosedesigns #handmadeau #handmadewithlove #blanketcoat #childrenswear #kidswear #upcycled #sustainable #thelittlemermaid #embroidery #sewing #australianmade #outerwear

Sustainability matters - and so we love finding ways to make garments both durable and earth-friendly. However, when it comes to waterproof outerwear, that feels a bit more difficult to accomplish! Waxed canvas can be a great option, but can occasionally be difficult to find exactly what you may be looking for. So, how about making your own? We've shared all about how to waterproof your own natural-fiber materials on the T+T blog, which can be applied to your outerwear projects to make them more weather-friendly. Come on over and see how! Link in bio 📸 A fantastic waxed cotton Grove by @spokes_sews

Need some extra "cosy" for your T+T coat? Interlinings can make your coat more wind-, cold-, and water-resistant, depending on what you use. But, what exactly are they? Many in our creative community have asked just this - and so, we've shared more on the blog! Visit our bio link to learn more about interlinings, how they are created, and what benefits they may hold for your next T+T outerwear project. Need help keeping winter's chill out of your T+T coats? While it may seem like a small detail, adding knit cuffs inside the sleeves, also known as storm cuffs, can dramatically improve the warmth and cosiness of a coat. What's more, they can help keep sleeves pushed up and out of the way when needed, especially helpful for wheelchair users, or for other everyday activities. We share all about how to add them to your Pixie and Grove Coats on the blog - I'll pop a link in our bio so you can check it out!

My Grove coat was once a Kanthe quilt, and was once 3 saris. Wearing it I feel connected to the other women whose hands have worked on this fabric, and those who have owned it in the past In a world where we often seek new things and too readily discard perfectly good items it is good to embrace the old and used and find a way to breathe new life into what already exists. #ttsewandshare #ttgrovecoat #tttexture #ttstorytellers #upcycle #renew #kanthaquilt @twigandtale

A few weeks ago, I was offered a place in the @twigandtale Storyteller 2025 community. I was delighted! The Pixie hat is my first project. Whenever I find myself lacking inspiration, I try to remind myself why I enjoy sewing in the first place. I was never really into fashion and clothing, but since starting to make my own clothes, I realized that clothing and dressing are as much of a creative expression as any other art form. And I love expressing myself creatively. When I decide to sew something, I ask myself the question ”would a hobbit wear this?”, and if the answer is yes, I make it. I am highly inspired by imaginary worlds, and I like to pretend I’m part of those worlds. Often, I feel more like a whimsical forest creature rather than a human being. And I like to express that with my clothes. Bringing that essence of whimsy into my daily life makes me happy. The pixie hat makes me feel like I’m a tiny creature living in a hollowed out tree. And isn’t that something we’d all like to be sometimes? I made it using boiled wool, using scraps from when I made the Grove Coat. I added a blanket stitch to the edge of the hat for an extra touch of personality. The March Storyteller’s theme is Imagination. The pattern for the hat was gifted to me. The pattern for the Grove coat was purchased by me last year. #TwigandTale #TTpixiehat #TTstorytellers #SewYourStory #TTGroveCoat

🌹 A Coat For Frankie Rose 🌹 . Frankie Rose, my eldest daughter who is entering double digits this year. A gorgeous, honest, loyal human being who made her entrance into this world at 36 weeks 5 days gestation as a little rose bud. . Throughout her life, Frankie has shown so much strength, resilience and love and it has been a pleasure watching her grow into a beautiful girl, just like a rose which is her middle name. . I have wanted to make a warm coat for Frankie to match the one I made for Kailey and Twig + Tale's new pocket pack couldn't come at a more perfect time - to feature a Flora and Tulip pocket design - perfect for a coat for Frankie Rose! . I made the coat with Frankie's favourite colours in mind (of course it had to feature mint!) and subtle floral fabrics to keep with the overall floral theme. I stamped Frankie's name on the inside of her coat to really make it hers and hand embroidered a small message on the inner Tulip pocket. . I loved making this coat and view it as a celebration of Frankie's growth. Especially since this is now the largest size of the children's patterns before I start making her adult size clothes 🥲 the days may seem long but the years are definitely short and I treasure each of these moments with my children. . I received the Pocket Pack #2 Tui Collection Pattern complimentary in exchange for joining the Twig + Tale Sew + Show team and helping show how the pattern works on a variety of different bodies. All opinions provided, however, are my own. . . . #twigandtale #ttgrovecoat #ttpocketpack #handmade #handmadeau #handmadewithlove #sewingenthusiast #madeinaustralia
