I'm finally back to some sewing now after cleaning up my room today. Nothing too exciting yet, just fixed up Evangeline's wings to hopefully stop them flopping. I sewed channels onto the backs of the wings and then pushed in some electrical conduit we had lying around. They stand up nicely now when I'm holding them, I'll get Evangeline to put them on tomorrow and see how they do. This guy is often talking about how he needs new shorts. I thrifted this piece of linen with the idea of making him a pair of airy shorts for summer. And then I saw the Sew and Show call for the new @twigandtale Coves and knew it was meant to be. I love how these turned out. Big pockets, comfy waist and a couple of length options (this is the longer version). And then I whipped up a pair of matching Scouts for the little (paired here with the Monarch Wings). There are butterflies in my garden! 🦋 I was given the newest pattern from @twigandtale - the #ttmonarchwings to try them out and they've been on very heavy rotation in my family ever since. These ones were made with scrap linen and quilting cotton leftover from other projects. Our #ttlunamothwings were also made entirely from scrap. It's just a sweet way to keep leftover fabrics out of landfills.

Baby steps. A lot of times my sewing fits around work and family time, but even a few minutes on a project, usually between putting things in the oven and serving dinner can be enough to keep my batteries charged up. My sewing space is in the kitchen and the cutting mat is always out, so I make the most of every minute. I am so excited about these wings. I made these over the course of about a week, as part of @twigandtale’s Sew and Share team. The process of making them was totally different from most of the things I sew and really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I absolutely love the end result. These were part of one of my kids' Halloween costumes, along with a homemade wand and flower headband, which quite typically, are nowhere to be found! ; )These took some time but were ultimately a relaxing sew, though I went through a few quilting needles and a lot of thread with all that satin stitching! Progress has definitely been slow on this slow sewing project. Thanks to covid and some wayward fabric I have only just pulled together the ingredients for my next project - a harbour top for miss mookin. I'm wavering between free motion applique or boro style stitching for the monarch butterfly. I think I'm going to cut out the pieces and have a play with position before committing to anything. Tadah!! It took me ages but every moment was a pleasure and as you can see she is loving it too. This is my first harbour top and she has requested many more to come. Sadly she is modelling size 10, the largest of the childrens sizes so I'm going to be adapting the adult patterns to recreate her dreams before I know it. My smallest small is not so small anymore 😨 It will be emotional to pack away the children's patterns. Monarch butterfly in the garden 🦋👑 I love these wings SO much! The third pic is my husband's favourite, we have titled it 'Yoink'. 🍃🍊🍃 This is such an amazing pattern. I mean, all #twigandtalepatterns are but this one even had the differences between male & female monarch butterfly markings on it which is not something I even knew was a thing. Attention to detail just 💋👌 Pattern: @twigandtale #ttwings in M Materials: Black is satin from my stash, left over from a grim reaper costume I made my eldest son years ago. White spots are sparkly acrylic felt from the deep stash, orange is a cotton remnant from her fox petal tunic and a watercolour FQ I bought specifically because I thought it needed a bit of colour depth. I used 1600F interfacing (per the instructions for once!) and it worked really well for stiffening. All materials were originally from ye olde @spotlightstores. I'd have loved to have used black velvet, as monarch butterfly wings always look velvety to me, but I don't have any on hand and I was worried it might made it too thick to turn. I do not love working with satin but it worked out!
