🪡 WILDFLOWER PINAFORE 🪡 We are currently reading The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett so I sewed a pinny so my daughter could dress up as Sara Crew as a Victorian scullery maid for World Book Day. Obviously I could have self-drafted something but I love a pattern. I've wanted to try @twigandtale for a while anyway. I sacrificed an old linen bed sheet which is actually a lovely fabric. I went a little rogue on the instructions for the side straps to save time so it's not the neatest. I really want to make the adult version and so I'll take more time then but I stopped myself from redoing it as this is just a costume - although I hope she does use it afterwards as the pockets are amazing! There are three pocket types included and you can do none or one or all. I chose to do just the "collecting pockets" which go across the width of the skirt and have an elasticated top. I really love the whimsy of Twig and Tale. I made a little rat too called Malchisedec from the story using a free template from YouTube. Another pinafore! I loved my Wildflower pinafore from @twigandtale so much I wanted a second one soon. Here it is! I used a dark blue linen I had in my stash for forever. It’s a bit less structured in comparison to the green one. For this version I went for the button straps and added a ruffle. To add the ruffle, I took 10 cm from the length of the skirt and added a ruffle of 15 cm, that’s about 1,5 times the width of the skirt. Instead of the plain patch pocket I added a pocket from the Tui pocket pack, the sunset pocket. I added a bit of embroidery on the pocket, which makes it pop! So excited to finally be able to share my latest sewing project, the Wildflower Pinafore! I was gifted this newly released, beautiful pinafore pattern by @twigandtale as part of their Sew & Show team. It is the perfect layering piece that can be worn in all seasons! The pattern has so many options for customization including different lengths, tie or button straps, several pocket choices, and is available in both children and adult sizes. I used a mid weight dusty blue linen fabric with two different floral accent fabrics in the pockets and bib. I couldn’t decide which pockets to make so I added them all: embroidered front patch pockets, a gathering pocket with a button loop closure, and inseam pockets. It was a pleasure to sew and I can’t wait to make another! I highly recommend #twigandtalepatterns as they are very thorough and easy to follow. When I saw that Twig and Tale had designed a pinafore I knew I needed one in my life. I was delighted to be chosen to be given the pattern to make for the Sew and Show. It was hard to chose from the different options so in the end I made two, a plain soft washed cotton one and this version from Liberty floral poplin. Both have their own character, this dress fabric has more structure and so was perfect for the large patch pockets, the classic bib and button straps. I’ve been wearing a lot of dresses over tops lately so making an actual pinafore felt fitting. I let Miss Almost 3 pick the fabric and she chose this pink cotton. I don’t usually reach for pink but am loving the colour. The pattern is the new Wildflower Pinafore from @twigandtale with the Driftwood Blouse underneath. I love the look and fit and how it all came together — I flat felled the skirt side seams and otherwise everything is enclosed for a top notch finish. We went to the river just after I'd finished my daughter's new #wildflowerpinafore . She grabbed a basket so she could search for mushrooms. 🍄 Her baskets ended up full of usnea from some fallen branches. 💛 I grabbed the camera and caught just a little of her sweetness. Her requests when I started sewing her new dress was to embroider it with a luna moth and a wreath of roses. 🌹 I used a lovely pattern (modified) from @the_anxious_stitcher for the luna moth. I absolutely loved being a small part of the testing process for @twigandtale again. It has been so long since I've sewn and it felt wonderful!

The perfect amount of whimsy combined with a dash of vintage, usually that’s what describes my outfits. And this full Twig and Tale outfit is not any different! This outfit is one I can imagine myself wearing a lot. It’s a perfect skirt-shirt combination. The skirt is full, but not too full. I used the Wildflower pinafore, but I omitted the bib and added beltloops in the front. Easy to dress up with a collared shirt and heels, or dress down with a t-shirt, stockings and a pair of boots. The top is the Driftwood blouse. simple, but not too plain and can be combined with almost anything. A perfect basic, I really don’t know why I didn’t make this one sooner! I shortened the long sleeves with about 10 cm to have this elbow length sleeve. The daffodils were in bloom so I took the opportunity to make pictures in between the flowers. Wildflower Pinafore. Énorme coup de cœur pour ce nouveau patron de Twig + Tale @twigandtale que j'ai adoré coudre pour ma merveilleuse. Si j'imaginais, au départ, une version dans un lien ou coton lavé, j'ai très vite opté pour un denim brut. Parce que ça se porte plus facilement, que je l'imaginais parfaitement avec des broderies fleuries sur les poches et la bavette, que les doubles surpiqûres, c'est beauuu et SURTOUT parce que j'ai bien l'intention de me coudre la même version pour moi 😬 Ce patron est génial et est, comme tous les patrons @twigandtale, d'une qualité irréprochable et avec des finitions qui me comblent. This is my 'little'. She's growing up fast, and has discovered clothes shopping the last couple of years. So I've had little need or desire to make her anyway. But when she saw the line drawings for the new Wildflower Pinafore, she asked me to make it for her straight away, so how could I refuse?! She's into the adult sizing chart now, albeit the teen sizes. This is size B with the shaped bib and simple crossover straps, buttoned on the outside. Like all Twig & Tale patterns, it's detailed and simple to follow. First finished garment of 2025! This is the @twigandtale #wildflowerpinafore made with a side seam, collecting, and bib patch pockets (cause one needs 9 pockets). I made this out of an IKEA duvet cover and some linen blend I had on hand. I believe the top is a size M and the skirt an O. Next make will have a slash and split skirt to have a wider hem for going over bigger skirts.

With all the chaos of my eldest being home on leave, I almost forgot to share my latest sewing project! I was lucky enough to join @twigandtale Sew + Show group for their Wildflower Pinafore. My best model and princess at heart approves of this design fully. I was nervous to tackle some of the elements, as I still consider myself to still be a beginner sewist, but the patterns @twigandtale creates gives thorough step by step instructions and video support that I was able to complete this beautiful piece. I chose to a mid weight linen from @fabricsstorecom and the most adorable @rubystarsociety ice cream quilting cotton from @fabricpop for the pocket lining (you can't see it, but its citrine, pink and purple and absolutely to die for). Can't forget the little handmade tag, I love sneaking them in every project for her. What is even better is there room for growth, I can add additional holes for the button to extend the straps, and in the hem to let down the length. It would be a bit more complicated, but I could also seam rip the waist to extend the elastic. Thanks for indulging my personal sewing project.

As it’s the last day of April, it’s also the last day of the storytellers theme ‘Details’. Every little choice you make when making a garment is a detail, and each choice can change the looks of the feel of a garment. Even when you use the same pattern! I chose to go for a very simple and basic pattern, the Scenic top. It’s a very good and scent basic that belongs in each wardrobe. But it can be so much more! One of the tops I made is the basic Scenic pattern with a simple 3/4 sleeve. I opted for a very light creme-coloured cotton with embroidery-like details. I used flat felled seams which I flat felled by hand to have a minimal amount of visible stitching. I chose a lovely lace ribbon to finish the sleeves. The second scenic top is made out of a lovely double gauze with stripes, which immediately makes it feel completely different. I wanted a more airy sleeve, so I chose to make the pleated sleeves from the sprig add on pack. To show the difference in look and feel between both options of course I needed a new Wildflower pinafore and of course I added some options I didn’t do before. I added tulip pockets from the Tui pocket pack, cut the straps end in a point and added a little tulip flower embroidery on one of the straps. Curious about the outfits? Check out my next posts! This month’s theme for the #ttstorytellers is ’details’ ❤️ I am making a pinafore and decided to embroider on it, I haven’t done such a big embroidery piece before. @ourhomeonthehill inspired me with her embroidery and through her I found @kasiajacquotembroidery and fell in love. Me being a very impatient person who loves quick projects, this was quite a challenge, I’ve been working on this dress for about a month now! And to make it even more challenging I decided to make the back of the embroidery as neat as I could. No one will see it, but I will know! A LARP commission: an Alice in Wonderland dress! This was such a fun thing to figure out. The customer expressed preference for a cotton-elastane dress for stretchy comfort, so I used the @sinclairpatterns Valley dress with puffed sleeves and a circle skirt. Then for the 100% cotton apron I did some modding of @twigandtale's Wildflower pinafore - added ruffles and tulip pockets, and kept their back lace-up effect without the back skirt or elasticated waistband by extending the front waistband a little around the sides. Then a ruffled collar and a commercially-bought tulle petticoat for volume and that was that! I was able to deliver the outfit to a nearby town myself (bike delivery for the environment!), which was great because I could see it being worn 😁 I definitely always worry about hypotheticals when I post clothes off! I feel like this Wildflower pinafore is just right for sliding in right at the end of the Twig and Tale Storytellers 2024, and for the theme of Connection. I was feeling pretty bittersweet putting the last stitches in this pinafore a couple days ago. 2023 was my first year as a Storyteller. I started as a bit of an overachieving speed demon when it came to sewing, wanting to do it all and do it quickly. I have ended 2024 by completing more hand sewn things than ever before, and being happy to work on them slowly. The connections to sewists in the Storytellers community have been instrumental in training me to slow down and savor every stitch. And this pinafore was the perfect culmination in that process. I sewed a new substrate, fulled wool, and did some serious embroidery which took a good deal of time, and I enjoyed the challenge. And now I have a toasty warm and beautiful addition to my winter wardrobe. Since a few years my husband and I get invited to an amazing Halloween party. Since I’ve been making (almost) all of my clothes myself, I try to make my costumes for dressing up as well. After coming across the Acmella hat from @stitchmaiden I wanted to make a cute witchy outfit. Although I probably won’t be wearing the hat regularly, I always try to make or use garments I can use afterwards as well. One that already was on my sewing list, was the wildflower pinafore in a more fall-appropriate fabric. Found this beautiful babyribcord at @destoffenkamer so that became the base of the outfit. Added a shirt I made last year, drafted by myself, and some accessories and boots, and ivy from the garden. I really felt good in this outfit and I’m definitely wearing it again, probably with less makeup. So excited to finally be able to share my latest sewing project, the Wildflower Pinafore! I was gifted this newly released, beautiful pinafore pattern by @twigandtale as part of their Sew & Show team. It is the perfect layering piece that can be worn in all seasons! The pattern has so many options for customization including different lengths, tie or button straps, several pocket choices, and is available in both children and adult sizes. I used a mid weight dusty blue linen fabric with two different floral accent fabrics in the pockets and bib. I couldn’t decide which pockets to make so I added them all: embroidered front patch pockets, a gathering pocket with a button loop closure, and inseam pockets. I’ve been wearing a lot of dresses over tops lately so making an actual pinafore felt fitting. I let Miss Almost 3 pick the fabric and she chose this pink cotton. I don’t usually reach for pink but am loving the colour. The pattern is the new Wildflower Pinafore from @twigandtale with the Driftwood Blouse underneath. The perfect amount of whimsy combined with a dash of vintage, usually that’s what describes my outfits. And this full Twig and Tale outfit is not any different! This outfit is one I can imagine myself wearing a lot. It’s a perfect skirt-shirt combination. The skirt is full, but not too full. I used the Wildflower pinafore, but I omitted the bib and added beltloops in the front. Easy to dress up with a collared shirt and heels, or dress down with a t-shirt, stockings and a pair of boots. The top is the Driftwood blouse. simple, but not too plain and can be combined with almost anything. A perfect basic, I really don’t know why I didn’t make this one sooner! I shortened the long sleeves with about 10 cm to have this elbow length sleeve. The daffodils were in bloom so I took the opportunity to make pictures in between the flowers. Almost 20 years ago I was gifted some pillowcases that were hand embroidered by my late grandmother. Those pillowcases have been languishing in a box under my bed for years because I had no idea what to do with them. Until I saw the @twigandtale Wildflower Pinafore. I just knew the classic bib would be the perfect way to showcase such precious fabric. I made the size 3 for my 2.5 yr old toddler and used a gorgeous purple rayon linen blend for the main part of the pinafore. The embroidery is on a white poly cotton. I chose to use the patch pockets and opted to put the buttons on the inside of the waistband. Oh and I paired it with a ruffled Drftwood Blouse. Talk about dreamy! 😍 I was selected for the Twig + Tale Sew + Show team where I received a free copy of the pattern in exchange for sewing up a sample and sharing my experience. As with all Twig + Tale patterns, the instructions are amazingly clear with nice photos and a video tutorial. I really enjoyed creating the new Wildflower Pinafore from Twig and Tale, the bunny I have embroidered on the front is from their embroidery collection too. I love sewing with Twig and Tale, their patterns are designed with upcycling in mind and this pinafore is no exception. I have used a bedsheet keeping the piping details to embellish the hem and bib front, this also meant I didn’t have to hem which is always a win. There is so much fabric in a bedsheet that I could have made two. I have paired this wildflower with a long sleeve Vista top also by Twig and Tale but it looks fantastic over their Scenic top too. Usually, my least favorite part of a project is the hand sewn finishes. By the time you get to the hand sewing, the project is usually so close to being finished that I just don’t have the patience for it. I've been trying out pinafores! I didn't really know whether they'd work on me, but they definitely do. This is the Wildflower Pinafore from @twigandtale, and their patterns continue to never disappoint. The octopus one is cotton canvas (with a Cameron cotton button-up shirt underneath) and the purple one is corderoy - I really like it over my knitted jumper!
