I scooped up as much of this deadstock mustard wool from @corefabrics as soon as I saw it. It’s my fave colour. My first time working with wool and making a coat. I‘m a bit overwhelmed by holiday shopping for my kids (now 3 and 5) right now. Everything is in huge amounts of packaging and not necessarily designed to last. They do have some of those toys, but I wanted to throw something different into the mix. So I made them some slow-sewed stocking stuffers out of scraps I had hanging around (the bunny is even stuffed with the tiniest of fabric scraps). I tried to go for something that ties in with their interests and would have good play value – and I couldn’t resist some matching hats for dress up. All of the patterns are from @twigandtale. For the bunny set, I used the Evergreen Bonnet and Bunny patterns along with the Wildflower and Garden Posie embrodieries. And the doll set uses the Pixie Hat and Pebble Pocket Doll along with the Woodland Alphabet and Toadstool embroideries. ✨Everyday magic✨ can be found with children always. Is there anything more magical than seeing your children imagine and play? Waldorf dolls are created intentionally simple to allow children to develop their imagination and creative play. In a world where creative play seems to be disappearing, more toys that encourage the imagination to run wild and free are needed. I created the Pebble Pocket Doll from @twigandtale for my sweetheart and her baby dolls. Her babies needed a baby, so creating something their size seemed perfect. The fabric used displays leftover scraps from her Ren Faire costume that I made last year and Waldorf doll making supplies I already had on hand. In March, I was selected to be part of this year's @twigandtale Storytellers community and I got started straight away on my first project. I want to be more intentional and playful with my makes this year, and these Pebble Pocket Dolls were a fun start. I initially planned to make just one, but my daughter wanted to help and we together we sewed up a little family. Working with small parts was a bit fiddly, but N had so much fun helping me at my machine. All in all each doll came together quite quickly, and I was able to take advantage of scraps from previous projects. I did get stuck trying to decide on the perfect hairstyle for each one, but I managed to pick a couple from the tutorial. There are many! May's theme is Everyday Magic, and watching my kiddos incorporate my handmade toys into their play is magical.
