A few weeks ago we had a baby shower and I made a dress for the bump! It's a #givrematernitydress in a cotton jersey fabric from Spotlight which I've had in my stash leftover from a shirt I made agesss ago. I didn't have any clear elastic to bunch the sides and I didn't want to go to the shops again so I just used the smallest elastic I had and it turned out fine. I lengthened it by quite a bit and probably should have added a slit cause it means I have to take very small steps 😅 But overall I think it came out well! I also don't think I've ever posted about Issy's shirt! It's a #sandersbuttonup from @elbe_textiles just in a linen from Spotlight as well. Issy had the idea for a friend's wedding last year that they wanted a pink shirt with red hearts. And we couldn't find the right fabric print so I embroidered the hearts on instead. Hey mates, been a bit lax on IG while I get ready for my next shoot - if you have any burning or itchy questions, please feel free to email me as I check those regularly! Please admire my Sanders Button Up I just made for the shoot. It's made from a yarn dyed check (I want to say linen blend?) from @potter_and_co_australia I ADORE this fabric but it's a shifty one, so I made the executive decision to remove the panelling details and inseam pockets from this pattern. This way I didn't have to worry about pattern matching and just let the fabric do it's drapey thing. If you'd like to do this on your own Sanders, I have a tutorial on my website on removing the panels for a plain front and back. Handy, right?! Who wore it best?! 🤓 I rarely make things for my 🍯 because he is 100 feet tall and requires so.much.fabric. BUT he intercepted this lovely lilac corduroy from @longancraft and the rest is history - I get it, the color is divine and it has a luxurious drape and feel! I added 4-5” to the @elbe_textiles #sandersbuttonup and omitted the front yoke & pockets for a clean look. Little contrasting blue cord details throughout feel special 💜 Fabric gifted by @longancraft in exchange for content. TY!

I finally tried a new button up shirt pattern for my husband and I think it's the only shirt I'll ever make for him again! 😂 I usually make him the #FairfieldButtonUp which is, of course, very lovely but even with mods it tends to have more ease around the waist area than my husband generally prefers. (His chest to waist ratio usually means he falls across multiple sizes.) Finding something that fits at the chest usually leaves a LOT of excess fabric around the waist which isn't always as correctable as I'd like. However, the lovely princess seams in the back of this Sanders make that entire problem disappear! This is a size D at the chest, tapered to a C at the waist and the fit is just *chefs kiss*! Next time I'll add an additional 1/8 along all seams to ensure I can French seam the insides but otherwise I won't be making any mods on this. Even the sleeve length is perfect without changes (he's 6'1" for reference). I also want to mention that I splurged on this flannel and I'm so glad I did. It is delightful to work with and it has an ever so subtle sheen to it that makes it look fancier than a classic or brushed flannel. It's tricky to get a color accurate photo, but they described it as midnight which I think is pretty spot on. Don’t worry it’s not Chinese new year yet 😂😂 just wanted to take a photo because we are all in items made by me!! Latest make is an anniversary present to the husband. Swipe to see better views of the shirt. This is the @elbe_textiles #sandersbuttonup view C without pockets, in size C which is a size down from the recommended size. Fabric is an off white linen from @swafing via @sewgoodknits that I bought eons ago. I’m feeling super proud of this make because of all the lovely finishing with the faux flat felled seams and collar and buttons! I actually quite enjoyed sewing this up because the seams looked so good I attached the wrong side to the right side at some point and had to unpick 😂 I can now understand the satisfaction that people get from making shirts! There was however the great hurdle of cutting out all the pieces (soooo many!!!!) and interfacing them! Making me think twice before embarking on another shirt project 😅 Couple of changes I’ll make for the next one though. Because I sized down I’ll probably do a small broad shoulder adjustment for the next make so the shirt will sit back down better after movement. I’ll also hem the bodice pieces before attaching the button stand so I can try to enclose it and not have to double fold the button stand which is making it super bulky. Otherwise loving this pattern and the size down gives it a slimmer fit which the husband likes. I love it when people I make shirts for choose snaps. Because SNAPS! They’re so fast and easy. This is the Sanders by @elbe_textiles When I got to the pockets I realized after installing the cap set that the other set would only be on one layer of fabric so I had to reinforce it somehow. Sometimes I just use double sided fusible to glue a patch on there and I almost did that here but I know he’ll use the pockets and eventually little threads may come off the patch edges if it’s not stitched down. I made a tiny patch and also made sure it wouldn’t show when the flap was down, used the narrowest serge stitch to finish the edges, popped open the pocket facing and slipped it under. None of it was very hard. The most awkward was being able to see the edge when I serged it. And I would have just used an overcast stitch from my home machine if it had been set up. But my serger already had this green! Phew! I was pretty disappointed I hadn’t thought of this but feel better with this solution. I think I’ll add a wider fencing to this pocket since I love using snaps so much! I made Scott a shirt for our anniversary. That’s 2 years in a row. If I do it next year then I guess it’s a tradition and I will be locked in forever, haha. Pattern: @elbe_textiles Sanders Shirt Size Range: A-M/34-58” chest Version 1: Blue hemp chambray from @harts_fabric Version 2: 3d pipes quilting cotton from @missmatatabifabric Changes from muslin to v.1: Cut a larger size neck opening, smaller size shoulders and chest, larger size waist and hips; round back adjustment; brought in shoulders Changes from v1 to v2: The blue shirt turned out really good and he has had several compliments from strangers so that’s a win. V1 to v2 changes: All my v2 changes are of the nit-picky variety. Took in shoulders a little more, pinned out excess around the back yoke and center back seams, added more fabric to the center front for belly room, raised the sleeve cap, took out some excess under the arm V.3 - He picked out some Halloween cats fabrics so I really need to get on that. It will be long sleeves. I don’t have to necessarily make any changes but if I am being picky then I might pin out a little bit of extra fabric at the front and back. Work has kept me from sewing as much as I'd like to lately. With that said, I managed to finish up two new Sanders (just in time) for this guy's birthday yesterday! It has quickly become my absolute favorite button up on him thanks to the lovely princess seams at the back. This is a size D at the chest, graded to a C at the waist. No other fit mods. The orange version is made from a medium weight (6 oz) linen blend giving it a more relaxed finish complete with some white contrast topstitching. It is surprisingly heavy but the breathability of the fabric makes it easy to layer (or not) during Spring's moody temperature changes. The red version is a technically warmer (but still lightweight at 4.7oz) flannel with a matching thread. This flannel feels so good to the touch! As always, the amount of topstitching in this pattern is more than I think it's going to be when I start, but the end result always reminds me it's worth it. I decided to finally put (most) of the buttons on this #sandersbuttonup so I could get some photos. TBD if the last button makes it on… • After feeling a little burnout from my TNT mens button up pattern, I decided to try out the Sanders from @elbe_textiles. It has a fun pocket detail and beautiful seam lines, plus I’ve sewn enough of her patterns to know they will fit Cody well. • I made a size C based on Cody’s chest, grading out to a D at the hips because I’m married to a curvy guy. I opted for contrasting topstitching to highlight these cleverly designed pockets and the seams along the back that give this shirt a great fit. • This fabric is a Japanese Vintage Wash cotton from @saltlakesewciety. It is super soft and lightweight, but still keeps that crisp poplin feel. I may have already stashed some away for me to make the new pattern Lauren is currently testing. The only downside of this fabric is it tends to leave pin holes, so I find myself being extra cautious to avoid that. • I’m not entirely sure if this will replace the Fairfield button up in my men’s pattern arsenal (largely because I love the clean seam finishes), but it is definitely a nice addition and refreshing change. • Pattern: #sandersbuttonup @elbe_textiles size C at chest and waist, graded to a D at hips. 🌲 Sanders Button Up by @elbe_textiles 🌲 Fabric is Mammoth Plaid by Robert Kaufman from @harts_fabric 🌲 Mods: Front yokes are lined for seam finishing purposes, tons of fitting. Seams are flat felled. I modified the sleeve a little to have a slightly flatter cap with less ease so I could do that. When I fit him I kept this in mind since I wouldn’t recommend doing that without making other changes to not affect the sleeve mobility. I didn’t make a major change and it was still hard to flat fell it. But I can keep working on this and improve it! I really prefer flat fell seams on button up shirts at the sleeve and sides. I love how it came out. 🌲 Wish I’d fit Michael sooner! And now I’m going to fit his other shirt pattern. I’ll post before and after. One of the added benefits of this particular pattern is the shaping in back. I think it looks so clean. Some shirts can really be too full back there! Maybe next time I’ll put the yokes on the bias since there isn’t a back yoke pleat but I’ll see how he thinks it feel first! Live streams available for replay. Couple of things: 1. A few weeks ago I accidentally deleted my entire folder of photoshoots from the last 5/6 years of business. Good job, Lauren. I'd like to blame it on Mercury being in retrograde when it happened, but really it's because I'm a big ol' dingus. Hopefully I can find the hard drive I haven't updated in a year or two for the older shoots, and salvage the rest via emails. But hey 🤷🏼‍♀️ it's an excuse for more shoots. 2. At the end of last year I updated the Akerfeldt Coat pattern to be a layered PDF and also added 3 more sizes. Previous customers were sent the new files and I emailed my email list to let everyone know, but then my social media battery ran out and I didn't do a post. Sorry mates. New year, new me with a resolution to post more and not delete entire catalogues of important photos. Hey mates, so I'm a bit all over the shop at the moment - finding it really hard to focus on what to do next. I've never been someone who can work on multiple projects at once, I've gotta pick one, finish that, then I'm allowed to move onto the next. Which isn't great as a one-woman business. Right now I'm trying to work on updates to the Page Dress (adding 2 more sizes to get it to my current size range) but I've been procrastinating heavily because after that is done I have SO many options and it's overwhelming me to the point of inactivity. I know I've said this numerous times, but I'd love to focus on menswear. It's what I love and there's a big gap in the market in this home sewing industry. In saying that - according to IG stats my audience is 96% female/female identifying. My menswear patterns do not sell anywhere near as much as my womenswear patterns. I know what I need to do to make money (release the Weiland Tank I previewed a while back/release more dresses) but that keeps steering me away from my OG plan to release cool menswear patterns. Anyway. There's not really a point to this post except it being a brain dump and keeping you guys posted on where I'm at. I don't need advice (thank you in advance for understanding).
