Reznor Skirt
The Reznor Skirt is high waisted, fitted knit skirt that finishes below the knee. View A has an angled box pleat and an asymmetrical hemline, while View B has a flat front and a straight hemline. Both views contain lining with an internal elastic waistband. Recommended for medium/heavy weight knit fabrics with good drape and recovery, with 30% stretch and above.

It’s #memademay! The best time of the sewing year (and the month that I always seem to end up making a list as long as my arm of patterns that I want to try! I’m kicking the month off with a tried-and-true favourite: my trusty #talcufftop, of which I’ve made so many I’ve entirely lost count. This one is made from a gorgeous autumnal pansy print fabric that I bought from @theclothshopivanhoe. It’s a polyester - which would normally turn me off buying if - but as the wonderful team at The Cloth Shop said: there’s polyesters, and then there’s POLYESTERS, and this is definitely not your typical plasticky polyester. It’s slinky and luxe-feeling, doesn’t make me feel sweaty, and has a divine drape. With these warm autumnal hues I’m unlikely to wear it over the warmer months, so the breathability shouldn’t be an issue (it hasn’t been so far at least!). Unusually for me I included the facing - the fabric needed the extra structure at the neckline - but I did my usual hack of cutting both front and back on the fold and lengthening the sleeves as long as my yardage would let me. I’m wearing it with the #reznorskirt from @elbe_textiles, which doesn’t get nearly as much airtime as it should because I love it (even though I’m still not 100% how to wear it) #reznorskirtplus #talcufftopplus #memademayplus #memademay2025 #40PlusStyle #PlusStyle #SustainableFashion #CurvyAU #SlowFashion #FashionOver40 #PlusStyle #CSCMakes #CurvySewing #Sewing #Sewcialists #CurvySewingCollective #MidFatSewing #MeMadeWardrobe

Thank you @elliscovefabrics for sending me this gorgeous navy/charcoal jersey to replace the grey that just didn’t work - this is perfect for my sister’s 2nd #ReznorSkirt and a bonus #LPLenne with 3/4 sleeves so she has a #fauxdress option 😊 The colour is a beautiful dark navy that reads almost charcoal. (I made her a bonus top since I can’t mail anything out yet, anyway and courier charges from here are way out of my reach!) Next, onto a few pieces for my nephew… 2nd photo: Crikey! These pyjama pants were too long for him at the end of August 😮 🤦♀️ #SewingGifts #ChristmasSewing #SewingForFamily #SewOver50December24

I guess I'm doing me made may? 🤷 @elbe_textiles #reznorskirt Go make this skirt. It doesn't get enough attention, and I want Lauren to make more cool, edgier shit. It's a great sew. I love pieces with interesting draping - and the pleat looks complicated but is not complicated to construct. This is an eggplant purple rayon from an etsy shop going out of business... 4ish years ago. I like to let pieces marinate in the stash! It's taken a bit of trial and error to figure out how to style this, but I think these two options are winners. Obviously, it pairs with the @eble_textiles #staleytop, a cropped tee / pullover. I've made at least 4 of them and dig the easy, oversized but not sloppy look. This is a really nice lightweight French terry from the aforementioned etsy store, and it's sooooo cozy. I just squeezed it out of a 1.25 (a 60" wide yard) remnant. Option 2 is another @sewhouse7 #skylinetee in a sapphire cotton from SH7s online store. I *****love***** this color. 💙 Fit notes: Reznor - size h waist blended to a size j hip. In my next version, I'd lengthen the lining a bit. Staley - Size H shoulder / Size I body. Sleeves I widened to K at bicep. Body lengthened 2". Forward shoulder 3/4". Still quite cropped. Fit notes for my skyline tee same as in my previous skyline post. #mmmay2024 #seattlesews #memademay2024 #memademay2024plus #memademay2024day2 #mmmayplus #sewtall #sewbusty

Our range of deliciously smooth and flowing Bamboo French Terry has a new addition in Olive Green, bringing the total number of available colours up to 6 gorgeous shades to pick and choose from. 🎋✨ It has more body and offers a little more warmth than our standard Bamboo Jersey, making it an ideal choice of fabric for in-between-season weather and feels like a second skin. But don't take our word for it; try it for yourself! Suitable patterns that love this drapey bamboo knit are the #ReznorSkirt by @Elbe_Textiles, the ever popular #KieloWrapDress by @NamedClothing and the #PleatsToMeetYouPants by @PatternEmporium_Kate. I forgot to share with my @elbe_textiles #reznorskirt on the grid. This was my first one and it turned out great and was much faster and easier to make than I expected! I would like it a bit shorter next time, which is a bit intimidating given that I use a projector and the pieces are a bit funny-shaped, but I can manage! This fabric is a double knit from @califabrics and it’s absolutely perfect for this skirt. It’s thick and stable with just enough stretch. I have to figure out what to use for my next one! This David Wolfson slinky knit @measurefabric is scoring the highest possible points for the #reznorskirt in my book, and that it’s a jet black is major bonus points added. This skirt/top combo is going to be fun as separates AND as a faux dress. That pleat in the front of the Reznor is one of those awesome details that makes it look far more difficult and complicated than it really is. It’s an EXCELLENT quick sew pattern, and will make you look designer. The way this knit just slinks and drapes is fabric gold. Also, I’m not ready to wear boots yet. Should have worn my flip flops, which would work too! Also, Pauline @sewuthinkucan is my style icon and I copied her earrings. She is the matching set queen so in a round about way she inspired this whole outfit, I’m certain. . . . Finding light to photograph a drapey black skirt when the shortening days mean I'm typically leaving work at sunset was not easy. I hope the pattern details are at least somewhat visible! This is view A of the Reznor Skirt from Elbe Textiles in cotton/spandex jersey from Blackbird Fabrics. I traced the pattern in a straight size G, which matched my waist measurement. The pattern is drafted for 5'7" and I'm a smidge over 5'3" so I wound up shortening the main pattern pieces by 3" and the lining by 2.5". It was a pretty simple adjustment for the back skirt panel and the lining pieces, but the angles of the front hem made it a little trickier. If/when I make this again, I'll probably change how I shorten it to raise the where the overlap meets at the hip & keep the original width of the bottom of the front panels. This was also my first time finishing a project with a coverstitch serger. I don't own one, but my library has one as part of its Library of Things collection. I pre-pressed the hems with Heat 'n Bond soft stretch fusible before sewing them, and the coverstitch made for a really beautiful, satisfying finish. If you have a local Library of Things or Tool Library, I'd highly recommend seeing if they have any sewing equipment! As for the rest of the construction, I assembled the pieces with a straight stitch and Gutermann Maraflex stretch thread, then trimmed & finished the seam allowance with an overlock serger. When it came to elastic attachment, the Maraflex was skipping stitches, so I did that with all-purpose poly thread and a medium zig-zag. I used 1.5" elastic instead of 1". I zipped through sewing this in a week of evenings (in large part because I had to return the coverstitch). In a sort of a funny parallel, the top is probably the first thing I sewed with knits using a pattern (there were some self-drafted things and t-shirt hacks back when I was in high school, nearly 20 years ago) -- it's the Grainline Studio Hemlock Tee from back when that was a one-size-fits-most pattern. I probably made it in 2016 or 2017. It's all done with a narrow zig zag and there are some places where I still haven't trimmed the thread tails...

#memademay2024 - Day 2️⃣0️⃣ Well, friends, winter seems to have arrived in Emerald finally! Time to pull out the second doona, close the windows at night, bring the bed socks out of hibernation, and wear some stockings! Today I'm wearing the double ponte layered #reznorskirt by @elbe_textiles, a cozy RTW jumper and some stockings I got for 20c from the supermarket. Their oversupply + the town's under demand = my gain! We are on the home stretch... ❄️

This is the #ReznorSkirt pattern by @elbe_textiles Made back in January, this was one of my planned #MakeNine projects for the year. This is view A with the front panel pleat. I made size J based on my waist measurement, with no grading or size adjustments. Made with The most perfect grey bamboo knit fabric I got in a remnant sale from @sitkafabrics Black mesh courtesy of Elyse Adjustments made during construction. I removed the lining as I generally have to wear shorts under skirts anyways to avoid upper thigh chafing. Because I left out the lining I had to change the waistband construction. Rather than the elastic being encased between lining and main fabric I attached the elastic to the wrong side of the fabric with a serger , then turned the elastic down and finished the waist on a coverstitch. Side seams of the skirt assembled with a serger and all hemming/finishing done on a coverstitch. The drape of the top front panel offers enough coverage that swapping the bottom panel out for mesh was a fun sexy option without being a completely sheer garment. Shown worn with a #LolaTank in matching fabric, a #GoodTiemesTee in matching fabric, and also layered under an @ElyseOnMars T-shirt Dress. 💛💛💛 . . #SitkaFabrics #HandmadeClothing #IndiePatterns #Sewing #Seamstress #SlowFashion #Handmade #MeMade #IntentionalWardrobe #TraditionalSkills #MindfulMaking #PlusSizeSewing

Some more workwear sewing from earlier in the week 🤓☕️ Skirt is #reznorskirt from @elbe_textiles in size D. I love this pattern and I’m convinced that this is a great workwear match for me. I removed 10cm to accommodate my shortness (I am 162cm/5’4). The fabric is a beautiful ponte from Fabric Box which is a little too thick (upwards of 280 gsm?) for both the folds and the self-lining, although I may feel differently in winter. I’m going to remake with a different lining fabric and keep an eye out for other interesting knit options. I’m a little unsure about my feelings for ponte/synthetic fibres….but when I look at my most worn and longest lasting clothes, they tend to have some element of synthetic stretch. Also, this kind of skirt is so practical to cycle to work in 🤔 Worn with @modern_sewing_co ‘s #mscaratop in a very sweet handblock cotton from @joans.finefabric I need to make more of these! #sewworkwear #worktober #patternmatching #sewcyling

#MeMadeMay2023: Happy #TearsOfTheKingdom day to everyone who celebrates! I had to wear one of my Breath of the Wild tees. Worn with my black #ReznorSkirt (pattern from @elbe_textiles). I love this skirt, it's cute and comfortable and fairly versatile. Swipe to see my unfinished #CloudBowDress. I have made a lot of progress, but the skirt rows are long. I'm hoping it will only take a few more weeks to get it done, but I'm loving it so far.

Adding a touch of subtle to statement pieces ✨ [swipe for the full outfit] As a lazy dresser, I like keeping things simple. But this jacket always makes me feel amazing even when I don't myself. Contrary to popular belief it is possible to style statement pieces for everyday wear without compromising their essence. The key is to balance out the intensity. Start with something basic - tops and bottoms that don't ask for attention but still make you feel and look good. Then elevate them with a talking piece and tie together with shoes or jewelry. For shoes I chose my green @wildershop booties. The green pops enough to stand out and balance the jacket but the shoes are subtle enough tk not take away from the whole outfit. BASIC BASE + STATEMENT PIECE + ACCESSORIES THAT COMPLIMENT THE STATEMENT PIECE The rest is up to you to wear with confidence. 🙌🏽 \\\\\ This jacket is OLD. I made it years ago when @shoplamercerie still sold fabric. Pattern #S8749 in a fabric from Skirt is also a few years old but is the #ReznorSkirt by @elbe_textiles in a bamboo jersey... I think came from @pdxsewingstudio

I’ve never allowed myself to wear a tube top, for reasons I won’t go into here, and turns out I LOVE it. With all the feelings trepidation to make/wear one I wanted to be particular about the fabric. Here is why the David Wolfson slinky rib knit @measurefabric makes my perfect tube top: it’s clingy enough to stay up and, well, cling. It’s stretchy and comfy enough not to make you feel like it’s too tight. It’s that divinely opaque and saturated black, but thin and breathable. It’s also drapey enough to make a #reznorskirt @elbe_textiles (wouldn’t that be so cute??), which I’m excited to make soon so the combo can look like a cool strapless dress for summer and fall. Today I’m wearing it with my altered military arctic pants that I will tell you more about tomorrow. . . . The 3 Little Wolfes (+ a Reznor) 📖 When I finished my tester version of the #WolfeTop by @elbe_textiles , I knew I wanted to make a coordinated set with the #ReznorSkirt (also by elbe). But why stop there? I’ve had these printed stretch meshes for a couple/few years now, and this felt like the right thing to do. Here’s the rundown! Tops: 1. Twist front cropped version with long sleeves, hacked using the slash-and-spread method to give it this wide bell hem. I can’t remember where the lovely navy-and-rust tropical mesh came from (somewhere on Etsy?), but it is very soft and silky. 2. Sleeveless twist crop. With my striped one (see grid), I added bands to the armholes, but with this one, I did a knit binding that’s turned under and topstitched. Both methods work well; just wanted to try something different. Fabric for this and the skirt is an AMAZING modal from @surgefabricshop . I got this with a gift certificate and holy bananas — if you’re looking for the perfect knit, this might just be it! I love everything about it: the weight, the colour, the hand, how it sews up…just a dream! A little heavier than your typical lightweight bamboo (so it feels a little less revealing), and slightly cool to the touch. I just love it! 3. Plain long sleeve tee version with no mods, other than shortening the length a bit and cutting the bodice and sleeve hems with a fresh blade so I could leave them unfinished. This mesh (which will make an appearance in another garment soon!) was from a @mmadalynne collection awhile back and it feels like air. It’s the softest thing I’ve ever felt, yet it doesn’t feel flimsy. Skirt: At first I thought the modal might be too slinky for the Reznor Skirt, but when I saw @andrea_djones ‘s black one out of seemingly similar fabric, I knew it would work. This is the asymmetrical drape-front view, and it’s so, so good. I want a black or charcoal grey one for the fall/winter. A quick and easy sew (DO pay attention to your layout and the instructions for when pieces are sewn wrong sides together, though!), it feels so effortlessly chic. Magic! ✨ #SewOver50 #SewOver50July24 #elbetextiles #sewistsofinstagram

[Reznor skirt] Catching up on some sewn project posting here… I’ve been a bit lazy lately so I have a couple of makes to share with you. This Reznor skirt is one of them. Lers first talk fabrics. I bought this fabric last year at @lescouponsdesaintpierre , the colours are very summery. It’s a stretch cotton, not a jersey. I guess I can best describe it as a stretch gabardine. It’s probably slightly too heavy for the pattern, a little more drape would have been better. Having said that, it does give a skirt a nice structure… Moving on to the pattern. I love pencil skirts and I love drape so it’s a match made in heaven. It’s a super fast and easy project… I made a size C and in hindsight for my fabric choice I think a D might have been a slightly better choice. It’s sits perfectly but getting in it is a little snug around the hips. The view I chose is meant to be asymmetrical at the hem. Not sure what I did but it turned out symmetrical… 🤷🏼♀️. I wonder if it’s the choice of fabric… It looks good to me though! As I sit here thinking about all the things I could make in 2025, it's probably time to post my #MakeNine2024 recap. I made 5 of the 9 as planned, and a 6th with the original planned fabric but a swapped out skirt pattern. The #SunriseSkort , @jessilous_closet , with plain linen shorts and linen viscose jacquard outer from @the.sewing.club . This one was made on Dec. 30th, so no photos worn yet, but this was my second make of this pattern and I'm looking forward to wearing it in warmer weather. #ThePortmanteauShacket , @frenchnavynow_ , in a 21 wale cord from @galafabrics with small bits of a novelty Halloween print fabric for some of the inner bits. A wonderful light weight layering piece. When the #BalletBowSkirt , @matchymatchysewingclub , was released I decided the fabric I had set aside to make a Henrietta Skirt was better used for this, a skirt with a slit side is always going to get more wear from me. Made in a cotton and linen twill from @blackbirdfabrics The #ddEucalyptus Jumpsuit, @deer_and_doe_patterns . I'm so glad I finally got around to making this one last month. Made in a sandwashed cotton, also from Black Bird The #JonesTrousers , @goldfinchtextilestudio . Another repeat sew for me, I made a linen pair in 2022 and wore then to shreds, they currently reside in my mending pile hoping for a replaced gusset and a patch or two. This version in a warmer and sturdier fabric has already gotten a few wears and I really should make some more. Made with a ramie and cotton twill. And the #ReznorSkirt , @elbe_textiles , in a bamboo knit from @sitkafabrics and some mesh. This skirt has gotten SO MUCH wear, and I already have some more fun printed fabric for a second. As for the ones I didn't get to. I have a beautiful fabric I intended for the #TrueBiasLora but still don't have the pattern yet, it may still come to be. I still absolutely have plans for a #ZadieJumpsuit even though I haven't picked up the fabrics or pattern yet. It is still very much in mind. I think I will always want a #ZWGatherDress , but it takes a lot of fabric in my size and I have such a hard time finding dark grey linen in the tone I like. Maybe one day.

I’m just tickled pink that I got my sister’s gifts in the mail to her today - they might even get there before her birthday 😮 I posted both tops earlier, but, today I finished her skirt. It’s a #ReznorSkirt from @elbetextiles Damn, I really do love an @elbetextiles pattern! This was my first time making the Reznor and I already want to try another in ponte for my sister, next! This is View A size F as per her measurements, with 2 1/2” added to length. Sewing for my sister is really #SewingTall The colour ended up blue gray and o doubt she’ll wear it, but, she might 🤷♀️ Just in case she will I added strips of fusible knit to all the hems to give them some support 🤞 @damselfly.ca I had lots of fun with #CovynTheCoverstitch adding the perfect hems 🤌 (2nd photo) #SewingForFamily #SewOver50November24 #SewOver50 #BCSews #CanadaSews

This week's #MeMadeMay roundup, or at least the outfits I remembered to take pictures/video in. First up this killer outfit in a much loved all grey colour pallette. The #ReznorSkirt in a bamboo knit and black mesh panel . A candle maker print tee from @septembershearth , cropped by me. And my ever faithful @johndieddesigns flannel. Next the #GoodTiemesTee in the same bamboo knit and black mesh. Worn with RTW wide legged jeans. Then a fully made by me outfit. The #HallonDress in linen. The #GilbertTop in sandwashed cotton. And my darling #MidwayJacket in reclaimed denims, slowly and lovingly being covered in patches. Next up, to nobodies surprise, another Hallon dress, this time in a fun printed rayon. And lastly, perfect for today's hot sunny weather, the #ZadieJumpsuit in feels like cotton? Made by @domestic.cats.domestic.crafts , not me, but now so joyfully a part of my wardrobe.

#MakeNine2024 #ZWGatherDress by @birgittahelmersson Carried over from last years plans. Here's to finding the right fabric and picking this pattern up this year. #ZadieJumpsuit by @paper_theory This one is interesting because although I haven't sewn this one before I did have one made by @domestic.cats.domestic.crafts passed on to me this year. The fit is phenomenal and has become a joy to wear. I think it's time to pick up the pattern myself and make a colourblocked version? #SunriseSkort by @jessilous_closet I made one last year and it's been a very fun addition to my warmer weather wardrobe. I have both the pattern and the fabrics ready to make another. #ThePortmanteauShacket by @frenchnavynow_ This brand new pattern caught my eye immediately, the design details on this hit just right for me. I think I have enough 21 wale black cord left to squeeze this make out of, but also am interested in a colourblocked version in heavier fabrics. #SWSHenrietta by @spaghetti_western_sewing I love skirts. I love skirts with fun details even more. I've already purchased a beautiful fabric with this skirt in mind, all that is left is for me to pick up the sewing pattern this year. #TrueBiasLora by @truebias I liked this dress on launch and it is a style and silhouette missing from my cureent dress options. I have the fabric ready for this make as well so will be good to go once I pick up the pattern. #ddEucalyptus by @deer_and_doe_patterns Wide legs! Strong collar! Fun open lower back!! I'm so excited to try this pattern and bought a beautiful sandwashed cotton to use for it. Now to just buy the pattern and toille the torso fit. #JonesTrousers by @goldfinchtextilestudio I made this pattern in black linen in June '22 and have worn them to the point of needing mending, mended them, and now continue to wear them. I love them. I've bought more linen in grey and green to make two more pairs. #ReznorSkirt by @elbe_textiles I recently picked out this pattern with a few possible knits in my stash in mind, but in particular a beautiful drapey bamboo I think will be perfect. Another one that I have fabric options and the pattern ready to go for.

Shifty 2.0 is finished 🥳 These colours give me so much joy! And it pairs perfectly with my beloved Reznor skirt. The yarn all came from @stephen.and.penelope making it a great souvenir of my trip to the Netherlands last year. It was so nice to get to visit the store with my mum, I think we were there for at least an hour browsing all the wonderful yarn. It’s lovely to share the love for yarn with my mum, if only we lived closer together! Pullover: #shiftysweater by @dreareneeknits Skirt: #reznorskirt by @elbe_textiles

Here is another #memademay A much loved #reznorskirt by @elbe_textiles in a merino blend from @wearethefabricstore I’ve made 2 of these skirts and wear them quite often. They are comfortable and make me feel good. It seems that I make most of Lauren’s patterns twice, they are so well thought out and the instructions are great. A self drafted top in a lovely fabric that I got at @crossandwoods when I visited the Netherlands last year. It was a remnant piece and only 135 cm square, so not a lot to work with. But I loved the print and the colour so I couldn’t leave it behind. And a firm favourite: the #marlosweater by @truebias in an Ochre organic cotton sweatshirting from @wearethefabricstore It is so SO comfortable and I wear it all the time. It’s also the only non knitted cardigan in my closet. Something that I might have to change. Doing #mmmay does help to think about the clothes I’ve got and what I’m missing. #memademay2023

I wish this skirt was just a fraction easier to photograph, because in pictures it looks deceptively ordinary, when IRL it’s really not! It’s the #reznorskirt from @elbe_textiles and it’s been on my sewing wishlist for YEARS. You hear me on a regular basis bemoaning the lack of unique shapes and draping on plus-size garments, and yes: that extends to size-inclusive sewing patterns too. The Reznor – with its angled box pleat and asymmetric hemline – bucks the trend. Available up to a 60” hip, it’s got a bombshell curve. Post c-sec I tend to avoid fitted skirts (especially those made from a jersey fabric) but the draped pleat at the front combines with the inner lining to create a smooth silhouette that doesn’t draw attention to my VBO but still allows me to enjoy a fitted shape. While the skirt looks like a wrapped shape it’s actually very secure, with the side seams from both the left and right side of the skirt front secured to the back piece. Combined with the skirt lining there’s three layers of fabric at the front. I managed to get my right and wrong fabric sides confused when I was cutting out the pattern, so my pleat falls right to left rather than left to right, but it wasn’t a biggie. The pleat is closed with an internal seam, helping it to keep its shape, even when sitting down. For the fabric I chose a slightly textured athletic jersey from @rathdownefabrics. It’s thin and soft enough to fall nicely around the fold, but has enough weight that I’m not conscious of the fabric clinging to me. #40PlusStyle #PlusStyle #SustainableFashion #CurvyAU #SlowFashion #FashionOver40 #PlusStyle #CSCMakes #CurvySewing #Sewing #Sewcialists #CurvySewingCollective #MidFatSewing #MeMadeWardrobe #styledseated #reznorskirtplus #reznorskirtfat #elbepatterns

#memademay2023 Day 30 wearing a new make the @elbetextiles #reznorskirt in stash ponte. It’s hard to see the details under the layers - plus it’s all in black. It’s a really quick sew, warm and comfy and I really like the front pleated detail. Also wearing @fridaypatterncompany #adrienneblouse in modal jersey @tessutifabrics #sydneyjacket and crocheted #murraycowl #mmmay23 #sewover50

If Me Made May told me anything, it's that a whole bunch of you have the Weiland Tank. But have you considered making it as a set with the Reznor Skirt? You probably should. Modelled here by the gorgeous Louise at @winkmodels Photo @catblackphoto Beauty @xs.rose Fabric is a mystery heavyweight knit that has been in my stash so long that I can't remember where I got it 😬 #weilandtank #reznorskirt both available to download on my website
