#buckleytote by @elbe_textiles made from waxed canvas perfectly fits my laptop sleeve! Made this sleeve almost 10 years ago to fit a bulky 17” laptop bc cases that size are hard to find; since then it has comfortably fit all of my laptops with the charger. Fleece lined and looks like new - I made it from some kind of plastic fabric which I wouldn’t choose now but it is very wear- and water-resistant. Rainy afternoon for my #MeMadeMay pic. It’s another @elbe_textiles double day! With a #StaleyTop in @meetmilk_fabric self-stripe ottoman knit which is the slouchiest comfiest light jumper, and a #BuckleyTote in rust canvas. I’ve made two of these totes and they are a perfect practical size and a quick make. More @Seamwork #SeamworkMel joggers on the bottom in @mindthemaker umber sweat fleece. This umber brown is my new favourite colour. And peeking out the top is a #DressedMockneck in @mindthemaker stray lines jersey. Maybe next time I’ll look at the camera… we’ll see!

This Warner made in England oilcloth cotton is older than me! Purchased 2nd hand last month, expected date 1980. It's difficult to find coated cottons, tends to be polyester fabrics for raincoats tablecloths bags etc. I made this for Mr W as there were daffodils in the print and he was born in Wales. Somewhere they are there, I had 108cm and I think the pattern called for 110cm so I cut it carefully! I interfaced the oilcloth in heavy interfacing after cutting the outer in 2 parts to keep the print upright. I used light interfacing for the facings. I used 1/2 width heavy interfacing for the straps. I cut 4 of the pockets I'm #ladymcelroy cotton lawn and sewed them turned right side out, also interfaced the top of the pocket before doing do so they don't droop over use. Pattern is @elbe_textiles #buckleytote which is my favorurite bag pattern so far as it is simple to make and looks neat, I like the facing and lining, and the mitred corners, which make the bag fold nicely. A modified #buckleytote for back to school! 🪡 Pattern: I modified this @elbe_textiles #buckleytote to allow for some colour-blocking and to increase the sturdiness of the bottom of the bag with a more durable fabric. I did this by cutting off about 1.5 inches from the top of the main pattern piece and cutting a second facing piece in the contrast fabric, which I then seamed together with the main fabric along the top edge. I also cut a few inches off the bottom of the main pattern piece and cut it in my contrasting fabric to do the bottom of the bag. The other big modification I did was to make the bag quite a bit smaller! I took four inches off the width of the bag (both main fabric and lining) and a quarter of the width of the strap piece. This made it a better size for school books. This is the second time I’ve made this pattern, and I love it! The instructions are thorough, and the side panels on this bag make it more spacious than a basic tote. Fabric: Contrast fabric is waxed cotton canvas in tobacco from @blackbirdfabrics Main fabric is the cutest mushroom print cotton canvas from @joann_stores 🍄 Lining fabric is rust Breeze cotton linen blend from @twooninefabric.ca This was a fun and quick project to work on once I figured out the modifications. Two quick makes for spring, both are @elbe_textiles patterns, the #buckleytote and #serpentinehat. These are easy patterns that sew up fast and I love the design, so modern! I used the beautiful @atelierbrunette gabardine fabric in tangerine for the main pattern pieces and the antique wash linen in dove for the linings. Both fabrics are available at Stash! Recycle ♻️ Crafted for Mr R! Shopper, added a sew in brass magnet - wanted to go for rustic/minimal or hiking like osprey. Then I made a pencil case to go with it (from a cotton promotional tote with one non printed side, and a teatowel). Reused the teatowel loop so It can pin up instead of clutter a desk. But I guess it woud be better without pens as I didn't have waterproof fabric. 10oz rigid denim leftover from a denim jacket I made 3yrs ago! #MeMadeMay day 2. An improved photo location that doesn’t make my phone go all weird and wide-lens on me. Double @elbe_textiles (I’m a fan girl) today, repeating the #CornellShirt and a #WeilandTank in @meetmilk_fabric Derby Ribbed Jersey underneath. Repeating my floral #PomonaPants. All topped off with a #IlfordJacket in tencel from @merchantandmills. Had fun with contrasting topstitching and my first foray into embroidery on the pocket. I'm getting organised for the end of the year flurry and have just finished 2 tote bags to give my daughter's classroom teachers at the end of term. This pattern (the #buckleytote by @elbe_textiles) is a real winner. It's a straightforward project but with lovely details that make for a really nice tote bag. The fabric is some twill from my stash that I bought from @drapersfabrics last year. 2022 is my year of scrap busting and I managed to use every last scrap of fabric to cut these out. I found a sample fabric pack of this lovely cotton canvas at #remida recycling centre and turned it into a #buckleytote by @elbe_textiles . Fabric constraints necessitated the ‘design feature’ panel on the front, which I edged with some lining fabric. A #kylieandthemachine label finished it off. Tote / shoulder bag made from organic cotton twill. Thank you @minervadotcom for letting me review. The lining is 2nd hand from a quilting cotton bundle. - I interfaced all the fabric, except for the lining but I interfaced the top of the pockets. You don't need to interface cotton twill for totebags, but I like the structure and it prevents/lessens stretching over time. -I added a button loop and #PigeonWishes button. -I cut the outer fabric in 2 parts with a seam allowance as the print is directional. -I also added topstitching to the edges for extra structure. This @Elbe_Textiles #BuckleyTote is a beautifully simple, well-designed pattern. And Elbe sends all the proceeds from it to charity. When I looked at the bag pattern I thought ‘sure I could draft that myself’. But it was only $2.50 and for charity so thought I’d try it. It is a really satisfying make. It’s a simple lined bag with two interior, open pockets. I resisted the urge to add zipped interior pockets and to stay with the simplicity. The bag is cut on the fold, but because this fabric is directional I had to cut two opposites and add a seam allowance. I didn’t alter anything else and the straps are just the right length. This is a gift for someone not on Insta, and thankfully I have enough fabric to make myself a copy in the New Year! I include some pics of me wearing it so you can see the scale.
