#memademay - it was warm this morning, and then it rained and got chilly. Thankfully, I brought emergency ruffle pants to school as spring weather in Canada is nortoriously unpredictable. This is my second #duplantierdress , sewn in a striped linen from @blackbirdfabrics paired first with the #douglascardi in the classic little dress big sweater pairing, then with this free bloomer pattern from @sewtinagivens made in a washed brown linen. I made the ruffle a single, longer layer with the raw selvedge for the hem for extra rustic flare.

I’ve made a few other clothing things over the last few months but just haven’t felt like posting ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I’ve also been spending a lot of time on @threadloop.app and totally recommend it over this here platform if you’re at all interested in sewing. Go check it out! (I’m also the.present.stitch there). Anyway, this is the #duplantierdress by @elbe_textiles in a very soft double-sided double gauze from @lyricalfabrics. I think @lookauey is right that I’ll wear it with tights and boots come cooler weather. It’s also bike friendly!

I made this #duplantierdress by @elbe_textiles in August last year, but it is only just making it onto my grid now. I was prompted by Julie of @the_seams_i_sew who recently posted a lovely, coordinating set in exactly the same fabric (a viscose from @wearethefabricstore). It was my first time making the Duplantier Dress, and it came together easily and quickly. In fact, I made it in a weekend, which is truly miraculous for this slow sewist. I lengthened the dress and added a gathered ruffle at the hem. I was hoping that the back ties would give me some shape (which they sort of do), but it still feels a bit 'maternity' looking on me. For this reason, the dress has been relegated to weekend and holiday wear only. But even though I don't love the style on me, as a casual dress it is SUPER comfortable and those sleeves are 👌. The #duplantierdress has been on my list to make for SO long, pretty much when it first released, ha. When @elbe_textiles posted their top hack, somehow that was the push to finally make it ☺️ I made a size B (for current bust size 33”) and I love the fit on me! The underarm is close fitting - I still have plenty of movement as is - but I could size up for more ease there if I wanted. This was a really fun make and I love the style lines, although they get lost in this printed fabric. If I find the right trim, I may add it in, like @elbe_textiles did in their version. I shorten the skirt panels 10” from the bottom, but may play a little with the length and see how it looks shorter. The instructions were straight to the point and flowed really nicely! This cotton block print from @matchymatchysewingclub is so pretty and nice to work with! It’s perfect for flowy tops with gathering like this one. ☺️ . . . Double free dinner weekend! We had my work's awards night on Thursday and Sams annual work dinner tonight, so we doubled down on our dress and suit, because wearing your clothes over and over is cool. I rocked my space #duplantierdress sample that I bought from @elbe_textiles both nights and took my Vincent the cat bag along for the ride.

Here's one of the maternity dresses I made myself earlier this year. I started with the #duplantierdress bodice (my favorite!), then heavily hacked it to have a horizontal bust seam like the #bubblefrock, a scoop neck, and a lace-up back like the Good Threads Studio version of the #bubblefrockhack. I’m so happy with this dress that I figured it deserves a place on the grid. It’s the @elbe_textiles #DuplantierDress, I lengthened the bodice by 2cm and lengthened the skirt by 5cm. I used French seams and rolled hems. The fabric is double layers of a beautiful silk chiffon from @newcrafthouse. A make from last year that I didn't ever wear due to the cool summer, so as I am wearing it today I figured I would share the details! It's the #duplantierdress view A in a size E, C/D cup. Modifications were to lengthen the bodice by 3cm and the skirt by 40cm. Fabric is a linen viscose from @selvedgeandbolts . Only aspect that I am not keen on is that the inseam pockets end up quite far back when the waist ties are tied. the white dress! @elbe_textiles #duplantierdress from an IKEA queen top sheet photographed at the East River Park, where the gig took place I needed concert white for this gig which was a problem for a few reasons: 1. I never wear white skirts/pants 2. The gig paid $100 so I wasn’t about to spend $50+ on a new garment 3. My standards for clothing are now too high so the thrift store (or buying and returning something ill fitting) wasn’t going to cut it 4. I didn’t want to spend a lot of time making something because of reasons one and two Enter — one of the only patterns in my stash I haven’t sewn yet, a $14 100% cotton IKEA sheet, and stash thread. I had to self-line everything because the sheet was, as mentioned, $14 and basically translucent. The bodice of the Duplantier is lined already so no hack there. For the skirt, I added a second tier to make a little event of it and I love the added detail. Lastly, I kept the sheet hems for the bottom of the skirt to save time. Now I have to figure out how to dye this to make it more wearable — I’m thinking either hammered flowers, dying it dark and painting it or something else, idk. Also the princess seams on this bodice are beauuuutifully drafted and it was a pleasure to sew. #memade #memademay

This dress is giving such spring and summery vibes! 🌱🌞 I’ve been wanting to make the Duplantier Dress for so long and really I don’t know what I was waiting for. It’s such a cute dress pattern with a flattering fit and unique style lines in the bodice. This is definitely not my last version - thinking one in linen next ☺️ I’ve actually made this pattern but a top version with the longer sleeve view. I made a size B like before and shortened the sleeves 2” and added 1.5” to the skirt length. This rayon fabric* is silky soft and cool on the skin, but pretty lightweight so it was a little finicky to work with at times. I went ahead and lined the whole bodice and used a super lightweight cotton voile to line the skirt as well. This ended up adding a bit more volume to the skirt which was nice since rayon tends to hang straight. *This lovely rayon from the @suzyquilts Evolve collection was kindly gifted from @agffashion in exchange for content. It’s so flowy and soft and perfect for this dress! (with some careful sewing) . . . Adding a pop of 🔵 to my me-made wardrobe! Very very belated post as this dress was made for Chinese New Year which was almost two months ago now. How time flies 🫨 it's my second iteration of the Duplantier Dress and I love how the pattern pieces come together in a sweet and comfy fit, without any zippers or notions. It's become my unofficial work uniform and I'm already thinking of the colourway for the next one! 💠 PATTERN #duplantierdress by @elbe_textiles 💠 FABRIC A very lovely and lightweight Kokka fabric from @xadagadfabacead7964 that was on sale for $8/yard pre CNY. I managed to squeeze the whole dress from 2 yards! Lining is from there too. 💠 MODS Extended the front and back bodice pieces by an inch as my first version (as yet unposted... 🟠) had a slightly maternal feel which I liked on that fabric but didn't want to replicate. A tale of two @elbe_textiles #duplantierdress that I made this fall. I saw this bright pink and orange and yellow Ellie Whittaker fabric from @blackbirdfabrics back in July and immediately fell in love with its whimsical houses and thought it would be perfect for a #maternitysewing outfit for my brother in laws wedding. Around that same time I had stumbled upon the Duplantier dress, which means this was one of the rare times when I would purchase fabric and be able to immediately know what I was using it for and have the motivation to get it done! I also had the green and cream crinkle cotton that I bought from Blackbird last summer and never got around to sewing into anything. I decided to use it to make a wearable toile in a slightly different pattern variation, using the gathered sleeve option rather than the flutter sleeve, and I added a second tier to the skirt. It’s been a fun fall dress! It’s lightweight for warm Texas weather, while also having enough coverage to keep me warm in my freezing AC office. For the second version using the fun pink and orange house fabric I ended up changing the sizing slightly and also hacked the skirt to make it more of a circle skirt design rather than the straight gathered rectangle skirt. It twirls so well! We failed at taking pictures of the dress back in September when I wore it for the wedding, but I was able to wear it again this weekend for a holiday party and it still fits great with my growing bump!

Our Winter Deluxe @dahlia_sewciety box "Belladonna" was a sewists tribute to the ethereal queen of rock, @stevienicks We found this stunning viscose twill Ayurveda boho paisley and knew it was destined for this box! I made the gorgeous @elbe_textiles #duplantierdress and lengthened it as well as lengthening the gorgeous bell sleeve (very Stevie) Inside the box was a gorgeous pair of bird earrings from@laceylouhandmadesparkles and what a match it was!
