I’m away skiing this week and I always need more pockets - I made this @elbe_textiles #daviscrossbodyvest with extra pockets front and back to wear under my ski jacket. I’ve lengthened it 3cm and used the utility pocket templates and tutorial on the Elbe textile blog for the front. For the back pockets I just added another layer of fabric to the lower half of the pattern piece, hemmed it and stitched it down the centre. #daviscrossbodyvest updated! Today I wore my vest out for the first time, and after wearing it, I realised it could use some modifications for optimal use. I took out a few cm at the waist and added D-rings to make it more adjustable. I liked the vest a bit tighter for when I'm wearing a t-shirt, but also want to be able to wear it over a sweater. D-rings are ideal for this! I also added an embroidered patch that I bought a while back on @etsy from @doodlepeoplexo 💙💚 Very happy with the adjustments and looking forward to wearing it a whole lot! #memadewardrobe #madebyme #sewing

The days of “where did I put my scissors? They were right here!” are gone 😅 This vest is a collaboration with @orimono_imports The fabric for this vest was kindly gifted to me to make a fun project with. This print is an exclusive print they made in collaboration with artist @naoyahata and it is so cute! I love the cat at the vintage sewing machine and the mice playing with the thread. The fabric is a cotton linen blend and was a dream to sew with. Orimono is an importer of Japanese fabric, so you’ll likely see this fabric at your favorite fabric stores soon! The lining fabric is cotton and also from Orimono 😻 More about the vest: I do different sewing tasks at different locations around my apartment and I am constantly spending time searching for the tool that I swear was just in my hand. I’m hoping this vest allows me to keep everything organized. I had seen some folks make really cool tool belts for the same use, but I cut my patterns on the ground and am always moving from sitting on the ground, kneeling, sitting in a chair, and standing so I thought a vest would be less cumbersome than a belt. On a roll of trying to finish my unfinished projects before diving into new ones! This is a reversible #daviscrossbodyvest from @elbe_textiles! To make it reversible, I added the chest zipper to both sides and marked the edge of my pocket lining from the outside of both interior and exterior, then top stitched once they were sewn together being sure to catch both pocket lining edges. Thanks to some stitch witchery tape holding the pocket linings in place, doing this accurately was no issue. This front pocket is large enough for cash and cards, but too small for a phone. I may go back and add an underarm zipper for a phone pocket. I also shortened the vest by two inches because I’ve got a short torso. 😉 The exterior is a lovely, thick black melton wool, and the interior is a really fun japanese cat and moon fabric that I picked up from @harts_fabric. These beautiful, heavy weight zippers are from @zippervalley. I’m really excited to wear this while traveling, at concerts, and camping or mushroom hunting! It’s the perfect solution to bring things while keeping your hands free of a purse. Finished my first #daviscrossbodyvest from @elbe_textiles ! I wanted something to use when I have my birds on me. I used water resistant fabric to easily wipe off messes. Added padding at the shoulder for Jasper to grip and a loop to attach a toy. I'm hoping the back is wide enough to protect my clothes or I'll have to make adjustments. Sometimes my ideas come to fruition. Meet "hopefully I stop losing my snips everywhere now" tool crossbody vest 📄 @elbe_textiles #daviscrossbodyvest ✂️ Block 1 Size B. Added a bust dart, rotated out a back armscye dart (rounded back) and just went wild with pockets from top to bottom we have: - D ring on shoulder to hang a pin cushion - double layered chest pocket total of 3 compartments - 5 elastic loops - 2 box/3D pockets on the side with snap closure - single scissor pocket with tab for clips - mini box pocket exactly thimble sized - retractable badge reel on the side D-ring for embroidery scissors I wore the toile while making this so I can confirm it was effective in not losing shit everywhere. The thimble pocket was a last minute addition from this field test. My only concern was with how low the snips hang because of the retractable reel. It didn't seem to be a problem in this first field test but nonetheless if you know of smaller sized retractable reels hmu I'm so pleased with this. The crossbody form factor is absolutely the perfect compromise for wearability, simplicity and action. Everything is static and close to the body that it's not affected by the constant sitting, standing and leaning involved in sewing. #brisbanesews #sewingtoolbelt

My April selfless sew! It's a good friend's birthday this month and I wanted to make her something. She spends a lot of time outdoors and I thought she would like something that would be rugged enough to go with her wherever she went. Who says she can't have a cute phone sling to look cool whilst she's doing her thing. This is the @elbe_textiles Davis cross body vest. I loved the design of this and thought it was so much cooler than the bumbag I was going to make her. I used some remnants for this make. The main fabric is the green waxed cotton I used to make my eden coat and the lining is leftovers from my colourful blazer. I tried it on and it's definitely not made for my curved body shape but hopefully it fits her well. These two recent makes look so cool together! Both these patterns come from @elbe_textiles and were both very fun to make but in different ways. The harness vest came together quickly and was a satisfying sew. The dress is zero waste so it took more brain power than I’m used to devoting to following instructions - a nice change of pace! Outfit details: Dress: #MaynardDress designed by @elbe_textiles in a 100% hemp from my shop @sewnfabricstore. I made a straight size C and added the optional shoulder gusset. I had no clue how I would go about adjusting this pattern so I was lucky to fall into a straight size and it’s drafted for a 5’8” height - close enough! Vest: #DavisCrossbodyVest also designed by @elbe_textiles. This was made in a deadstock natural bull denim from my shop (now sold out). Ok maybe not this shirt under it, but! Started and finished today in between errands. I bought this @elbe_textiles pattern, the #daviscrossbodyvest , when it was first released but only finally just got to it. This fabric is mystery fabric that I got in a bag of fabric castoffs for $20 off Facebook. The lining is material I found in s bin in an old apartment. @patchhalifax came through twice with bits and bobs I needed last minute. I quite like this and think it's pretty cool. The pattern is offered in three blocks (a/b cup, c/d cup, and flat chested) which is great for fit, though I still probably could have done with a full bust adjustment. I only wanted to learn one thing at a time (this pocket was my new skill learned!). I haven't settled on how I want to do the closure so I have some temporary velcro in place. . #isewwhatiwear #sewing

Trying to catch up on posting my makes, here is my beloved #daviscrossbodyvest by @elbe_textiles. I made it in a black cotton canvas from my stash, no clue sorry. I think I made a straight size H? In the B block from memory. The only alteration I made was to use two different placements for the press studs on the under arm strap- so I can wear it more fitted or looser, depending on the vibes of the fit. Next time I’ll lengthen the front piece above my bust. It’s a perfect pattern: the drafting is clean, the instructions are so easily understood and it’s a swift make. I feel sure Tim Gunn would say grid fabric is out, but with the #MenilDrawingInstitute opening “Hanne Darboven—Writing Time” this week, I couldn’t miss out on matching Hanne’s love of grids and beautiful mark making. This grid is wobbly, and while I attempted to pattern match, it was impossible to match perfectly. I can live with that. Greatly shortened, my fabric rectangle after washing was a perfect 92” long (the zero-waste pattern calls for a 102” rectangle) that mostly came out of the skirt length. No pockets, but I plan to sew the @elbe_textiles #daviscrossbodyvest in black to help me out ☺️

Instagram isn't letting me share multiple photos for some reason, but behold my first #DavisCrossbodyVest from Elbe Textiles. . I opted to use scraps and my zipper is an inch too long, but nylon teeth mean it was perfect. I made a frankensize of H at the shoulder, I for the dart and width of the pattern on the dart side, and J on the length end for the closure. . Next time I'd add 3/4 inch in length for the shoulder and probably stick to just the I dimensions for width. I also might shave a half inch off the shoulder width and increase the pocket size to fit my long wallet. I'll also add the hanging loop. . Morel hunting season is in high gear! We foraged over 26 ozs of mushrooms this morning in central Iowa, as well as made friends with this sleepy little tree raccoon that was surrounded by morels. My #daviscrossbodyvest was perfect for holding the my water bottle and mushroom bag while venturing through the woods. I whipped up a leek and mushroom risotto that we topped with butter fried and panko fried morels. Absolutely delicious ☺️ Happy spring, all!

This is a little different from other things I've made before. It's the #daviscrossbodyvest from @elbe_textiles. I used 2 different leathers that I got in LA in 2022 (again, thanks to @kikipurty for taking me fabric shopping at FIDM). The "vest" has a small zipper pocket on the front, a hanging D-ring tab, and a side snap closure. Making this was my first attempt with leather and I'm mostly happy with it. When I saw the #DavisCrossbodyVest I instantly loved it, but of course it took me forever to get around to making it. I used a scrap of green denim from @blackbirdfabrics that was left over from making jeans. It’s a great item when you want to carry your phone, keys, cards, etc but don’t have pockets and don’t want to carry a bag. It’s much more comfortable and less obtrusive than a regular crossbody bag. I’m wearing it here with an old make I hadn’t worn in a while, the #SunnyDress (by @fridaypatterncompany, I think the pattern is discontinued now) in a deadstock knit from @stonemountainfabric . Vest finished 6/21/23. Cost approx. $35 in materials and 3 hours in labor. A little #memademay travel wardrobe! It was the perfect spring weekend in NYC (except for one day where we were entirely rained out) with temps in the 60s and plenty of walking. My priorities were to have comfort, flexibility, and breath ability to swap between the breezy spring temps and the humid warm subway stations. Rust corduroy @maisonfauve #pantalonbelem pants pulled their weight. The elastic waist was comfortable and they held up well in the dozens of miles of walking we did across both a sunny and rainy day. @closetcorepatterns #amyjumpsuit was a quick make to wear on this trip and it was perfect! I wore it one day with this grey @papercutpatterns #coppeliacardigan and on our flight back layered with a RTW navy wrap shirt. Lastly, I squeezed in this #coletteprudence midi dress for late night drinks and to wear under a sweater as a skirt if needed. The rain got in the way of this plan, but I may do it in the future! Last but not least, the workhorse of the trip was the @elbe_textiles #daviscrossbodyvest. Right before leaving, I added a zipper patch pocket under the arm to fit my phone into. This meant that, with the front zip holding a mini cash and card wallet, I could be hands free with no bags to keep track of while running around the city. Nobody asked, but I'm gonna tell you anyway. My plans for the next few weeks: 1. Update the Akerfeldt Coat pattern (adding a few more sizes and making it layered. After this, it's just the Somerfield Coat left to be updated! Huzzah). 2. Write some blog posts, make some video tutorials - any requests?? TELL ME. 3. Keep working on the two menswear patterns I have in development. One's halfway done, the other one keeps changing it's mind on what it wants to be. But I'd love to release both at once. 4. Entry 3 #sewupcycle23 A holey too tight pair of trousers became my first #daviscrossbodyvest by the wonderful @elbe_textiles Lauren's fabulous drafting means even though I used stretch denim cut in patchwork and on the cross in parts, it's sits so well. Eagle eyed will spot I reused the back pocket too 😁! Thanks Karen @sew.little.time and Becky @notes_from_the_sewing_room for providing a bit of a push to get inventive!! There's supposed to be a D ring too but I forgot 😂 I have ideas for more of these !

I made two #DavisCrossbodyVest in the past two days, and already have a few ideas for more. Pattern by @elbe_textiles . The first is made with the 200g/m Black EV linen from @purelinenenvy , with a broadcloth lining. The second is made with a cotton fabric from @sheenarae_designs Watercolour Sunflowers collection on @spoonflower , with a broadcloth lining. I had to buy the zippers as I don't tend to keep extras around, but all other hardware and fabric was from my stash. I printed a Size K, in block 2, to get the height from shoulder to underbust I needed and altered to fit from there. Taking in 2" from the side seam, and adjusting the armsyce to accommodate the difference. Very slightly lowering the bust point. And taking 2" length off the snap side overlap. I had the pleasure of testing the #daviscrossbodyvest by @elbe_textiles ! Congratulations on the launch, Lauren! It’s taken me a little while to get some proper photos done (thank you @therealsethrogen ). I made mine with some linen scraps and it came together so quickly! I omitted the D ring strap as I didn’t have any on hand. I just saw her added 3D pockets to her latest one, too! I love anything that leaves my hands free. If I make another one, I might try to make the shoulder narrower, as I am quite petite and it feels a tiny bit wide for me. But I like the loose fit as it still feels like a bag and not a full on vest. there’s also the #Davisbelt Lauren’s already launched. I’m totally eyeing that one out now👏
