Howerdel Skirt
The Howerdel Skirt is a midi length skirt that is fitted at the waist with an invisible zipper in the side seam and a lined top tier. View A features asymmetrical gathered tiers and View B has straight gathered tiers. Designed for medium weight woven fabrics like rayon, silk, washed linen, and soft cottons, this pattern is suitable for intermediate sewers.

I’m going to get back on the #makeninechallenge bandwagon. I didn’t do it in 2023 and I didn’t do a #makenine2022 round up either (but you can swipe to see). For my #makenine2024 list I have: 1. #avenirjumpsuit 2. #howerdelskirt 3. #ttdriftwooddress 4. #wwwonderundies for the kids - such a good scrap buster 5. #vernazzatwopiece 6. #nettiebodysuit 7. #misusucuddlecardigan or another oversized cardie 8. #peppermintbardondress 9. Oversized sweater, pattern tbd

When I saw @Bayhaus7023 newest post I found myself inspired to give these two new patterns by @elbe_textiles a go. The skirt has fun ‘swishy‘ vibes & the twist in the top is so clever! Pattern: #wolfetop & #howerdelskirt Fabric: Wolfe Top-lightweight bamboo jersey from @knitwitfabrics . Skirt-cotton voile -print designer @hollysanders_art & sourced from @neridahansenfabrics Construction & Mods: Wolfe Top, view A , Size D ( my usual size in her patterns) My bamboo knit was lightweight. I doubled it in the front and back because I didn’t want any transparency. The instructions are clear and the pattern is well illustrated . I did have to shorten the neck binding a bit as bamboo knit is so stretchy. I also did a FSA . The top is designed to be cropped so you may want to add length if that’s not what you’re after. Mine frames my belly button … so I’ll lengthen it a bit next time 😂 Howerdell skirt. View A also size D. .. I managed to get the skirt out of 1.7m but had to cut crosswise & patch a bit to get there. The pattern suggests 2.1M. Lauren suggests medium weight fabrics & voile isn’t. I lined this for 2 reasons.. because I didn’t want it see through and to add some weight to the first tier so the weight draped it down at the sides . I wasn’t after a ‘poofy hip’ look. The contoured waist has an invisible zipper giving it a lovely shape. I used a stabilising tape around the waist . It doesn’t have side notches so if you don’t pay attention you could attach the 2nd tier wrong & have to unpick all that gathering 🙄 Styling : I’m wearing puka shell earrings. Given to me ( & made by ) @smune .. thank u Sandy 😘 #elbetextiles #sewover50july24 #sewover50 #dopaminesewing #neridahansenfabrics #modernsewist #memadeeveryday

Yet another entry into #magamjelousjuly I do envy people who have curated coordinated wardrobes. Here are some of my attempts to get more ‘together’ outfits. These latest makes are predominantly from patterns designed by @elbe_textiles #howerdelskirt in a cotton batik. I may omit the bottom tier next time. A great fit around the waist. #wolfetop in a cotton jersey. I like the twist detail. At first I thought the fit might be a bit snug but I think it’s because I’m used to loose tops. The instructions were 👍and easy to sew. #fremantlepants these are not a new make, but have been dyed from white to blue. Much more functional for me! My most technical sew for a while is the #cornellshirt in an organic poplin cotton. I think I have mastered the art of button plackets! I will shorten the length and button placket on my next make. A versatile layering piece. I have a few #millerwaistcoat which go well with the shirt. Thanks to @suestoney @sewing_in_spain and @hportemanteau for hosting this challenge 😊Apologies for the squinting in the photos, the winter sun was so bright 😎#elbetextiles #magamsewalong #sewover50 #sewover50july24

Those of us in the SH are in Tee Shirt Season =Summer 🌻A subset of the current MagamDopamineDecember challenge is a #teeparty. Which are such quick, fun sewing projects. Thank you @SueStoney @Sewing_in_Spain & @HPortmanteau for such a practical & versatile theme. Although I plan to make a few tees this month, I recently made this bright white Staley Tee for a summer layer. I’ve paired it here with another #elbetextiles pattern , but you can really wear this with anything. Patterns: #staleytop worn with the #howerdelskirt . Both designed by Lauren of @elbetextiles Fabric: a beautiful rib knit by #iseefabric . The skirt deets are in a previous post. Fit: I think I cut the D because I did for the previous one I made in grey and I love it so much . No mods needed. It’s great for a quick layer. #elbetextilespatterns #sewover50december24 #sewingchallenge #so50teeshirt #sewover50 #MagamDopamineDecember

As a serial outfit repeater, I really struggle to mix and match pieces to produce new combos. It feels like a big stretch out of my comfort zone whenever I do, but here I am trying and I think it worked out for me!! Top: @elbe_textiles #CornellShirt over a #JaceTopHack Skirt: #HowerdelSkirt Hat: hacked @properfitclothing pattern Purse: #crosstowncrescentbag Shoes: @birkenstockusa This skirt doesn’t get nearly enough wear - so I’m glad to find a styling combo I like so hopefully I reach for it more often! Details for each of these makes are back on my grid, or just ask! #memade #mmootd #ootd #sewing

As soon as finished my tester version of the Howerdel skirt I knew I wanted to make another one omitting the bottom ruffle because as much as I love the skirt, deep down I am not a ruffle person and keep trying to tone down the girly energy every time I wear it. Many months later, here is my simplified skirt and I am honestly obsessed. The curves, the soft gathers, the colour, the simple fabric…. Third day on a row wearing it and only finished it on Tuesday! After taking the photos I am considering shortening it a little bit, what do you think? • Skirt: #howerdelskirt by @elbe_textiles (up to W:50; H:60.2) in cotton poplin from @minervadotcom (fabric gifted as Brand Ambassador). Size L at the waist grading to size M at the hips. I did I full bum adjustment lengthening the back yoke at center back by 3.5cm blending to nothing at the side seams and adding elastic to the back waistline. I omitted the bottom ruffle but wanted to keep the lenthgh so I lengthened and straightened the midlle tier by the length of the ruffle piece. That’s it! I might have created my dream gathered skirt 💚 Top: #atraxtop by @munaandbroad (up to B:64; w:60; H:71.5 but they will grade up if needed) in thrifted knit. Size E at the bust and shoulders grading to size H at the hips and with delft drafted arm facings. I think this pattern is one of the hidden gems of the sewing world. Basic and simple but resulting in a super cute and elevated little top that is a joy to wear. • Current measurements: B:47; W:46; H:58; 167cm tall #torontosews #canadasews #curvysewing #plussizesewing #plussizeootd #memadeeveryday #imakemyclothes #plussizesewingpatterns #fatsewing #handmadewardrobe #imakemyclothes #sustainablesewing #thriftedsewing #mmootd #imnot2d #imperfectsewing

Tomato Girl 🍅 I was inspired by the beautiful skirt by @lisasaysgah and wanted to make my own with this gorg fabric from @lyricalfabrics So of course I asked the amazing sewing community for similar pattern recs and I came across the gorgeous @elbe_textiles #howerdelskirt 💗 I didn’t add the third tier instead I made the second tier longer and I made a size G but I feel like I could’ve size down for a more tighter fit. I also wanted to point out that the invisible zipper instructions were so clear and easy to follow that this is my best zipper yet! lol I’m already working on a black one 🖤

The #sewfrugal24 challenge was the impetus I needed to finally cut into this beautiful Ankara fabric that I bought in 2020, so thank you @frugalisama and @theyorkshiresewgirl ! I’m really happy to have done the giant print justice! Pattern: Free(or pay what you want) Peppermint magazine Maxi Dress design by @elbe_textiles Fabric: dovetailedlondon plum flower garden (incredibly easy to sew and press!) Size: E (my measurements placed me between D and E) Alterations: cut front piece on fold instead of as 2 pieces, lowered side slits by 12cm How it was to sew: Generally the construction went very smoothly. I managed to french seam the pockets inside out (don’t know how that happened!) and the front facing seemed too narrow for the dress width (although I’m not discounting that the error was mine). The pattern is very clearly written. You make the whole thing using a straight stitch, with all raw edges hidden in French seams and double-turned hems and facings. I particularly love the pocket construction and will try to crowbar it into other garments with side seam pockets. I’d like to make it again to have a do-over on the pockets. I would probably size down as even at the fitted top there was plenty of room. Part of the rationale for #sewfrugal24 is to use free patterns to explore new (to us) pattern companies. Based on my experience, I definitely would recommend the @elbe_textiles paid-for patterns. I particularly like the look of the #howerdelskirt #sewfrugal24 #peppernintmaxidress #ankarafabric

when i first saw my extremely talented cousin-in-law @sandeepsalter/ @salter.house’s incredible cotton wrap skirt (last slide), i couldn’t get it out of my head!! as you all probably know, i looove a good skirt with a yoke and the wrap + yoke combo was just 😵💫🫠🥰 incredible to my lil brain! with sandeep’s permission, i started the process of making my own version! i initially tried to draft it all from scratch as i’ve done with my other skirts, but i couldn’t get my head around the wrap component. instead, using lots of cotton from @fleishmansupplies, i (very extremely) hacked the @elbe_textiles #howerdelskirt and took cues from the construction of the wrap waistband from the #peppermintwrapskirt overall i really love it and am excited to style it for all seasons (the pictured styling is a dream outfit for warmer weather 🌷🌱)

Congrats Lauren @elbe_textiles on the release of the Howerdel skirt! I was lucky enough to test it and it finally comes out today! I loved the asymmetric lines as soon as I saw it (ps. They've been accentuated a bit more since I tested it, even better!). Such a great skirt. It has a side invisible zipper but other that that it's a simple make. People! The Howerdel Skirt by @elbe_textiles is now available! I was lucky enough to test for Lauren and I made this skirt in an evening, including sticking all my a4 bits of paper together. It is so much fun, I feel like a summer sorbet. I’m going to be wearing this make a lot. I made a size H, used some linen in the stash from spotty and literally whipped it up. I have a few more fun ones planned. I think it will be great in a heavier fabric for winter 🤔 and so many opportunities for colour blocking (cream and navy anyone?) and pattern clashing. Don’t you think it’s cute? #elbetextiles #howerdelskirt #summerdressing #imadethis #newpatternalert

#makenine2024 report back (while I wonder whether I should try to whip up a #vernazzatwopiece before tomorrow): reasonable success. I didn’t make the #howerdelskirt but did make a different skirt and I did make a sweater but not an oversized one. #misusucuddlecardigan has not been photographed (it’s black) but I love love love it. A lot more sewing was done that was not recorded or reported on but that is okay. My favourite makes of the year are #twigandtale for sure. I might attempt more woven in 2025 once my cut pile (large and growing and exclusively knit) has reduced.

I made this dress at the begging of last summer and I have to confess that I haven’t worn it out even once. Not even to my back patio to take photos of it. There is nothing wrong with it, it’s quite lovely, but I just don’t feel it. When I saw it this morning hanging in my closet I decided to “force” myself to wear it today and think about why I was not wearing it. I think the dress is beautiful and the fit is great. The fabric is gorgeous and a dream to wear but it just doesn’t work for me, even though o got a handful of compliments this morning while going around the neighborhood running errands. Has something like this ever happened to you? I was about to change out of it when I had the idea of trying it on with my favourite garment at the moment and… instant love! I now have a new top that I am low key obsessed with, made out of a dress that didn’t spark joy! I am so happy that I found a new way to love and wear a garment and it only required a pair of scissors and 5 minutes at the sewing machine. • Dress: #sundazedress by @les.perlines (up to B:55; W:48; H:60) in lovely Japanese cotton from @wearethefabricstore I made a size L at the bust with a small bust adjustment and grading to size N at the hips and the fit is spot on! The shirted back is amazing for ease of fitting and wearing. Skirt: #howerdelskirt by @elbe_textiles (up to W:50; ah: 60.2) in soft cotton poplin from @minervadotcom Size L at the waist grading to size M at the hips, bottom ruffle omitted, back yoke lengthened by 3.5cm at CB grading to nothing at the side seams and adding elastic to the back waistline. • Current measurements: B:47; W:46; H:58; 167cm tall #torontosews #canadasews #curvysewing #plussizesewing #plussizeootd #memadeeveryday #imakemyclothes #plussizesewingpatterns #fatsewing #handmadewardrobe #imakemyclothes #mmootd #imnot2d #imperfectsewing #howerdalskirtplus #howerdelskirtfat #sundazedressplus #sundazedressfat

#MeMadeMiercoles Sara vs Rain edition. I was about to give up on taking photos today because it was too sunny and bright this morning and it was pouring rain when I got home. But just after dinner the rain stopped and I run outside because I love my outfit today and wanted to share it. Also fan girling @elbe_textiles patterns. I’ve just finished this gorgeous skirt and I’m loving it so much. (Swipe to the last pic to see my true feelings 🤣). It’s the #howerdelskirt by @elbe_textiles and it was a dream to sew. I made size C, graded up to size D just at the waist - this corresponded to my measurements and the fit is perfect. The instructions were great - and check out my invisible zipper, the best I’ve ever done! Of course, the skirt is only as nice as the fabric itself made in, and this is a lovely double-sided double gauze from #atelierbrunettefabric that I bought from @maaidesign. It was a match made in heaven, as soon as I saw the skirt pattern and fabric i just knew that I needed to combine the two. Of course, it’s taken months to actually find the time to do the sewing… but I’m happy that I did.

It’s no secret that I love pants. I feel most like myself in a well-worn pair of jeans and a t-shirt, so skirts are always way outside my comfort zone. But I like the *idea* of skirts, so I keep making them whenever an interesting design comes along. That’s why I volunteered to be a tester for the new Howerdel skirt from Elbe Textiles. Two things caught my eye about this design: the smooth, non-elasticated waistline and the asymmetrical tiers. I’ve seen similar designs in luxury RTW lately, and both elements give the design a modern edge that bring it out of the cottage core realm and into a more wearable silhouette for me. Lots more details and thoughts on the testing process in my latest blog post. Link in bio for more. Details: ❤️ Fit: Howerdel has 1 inch of ease at the waist, and sits at the belly button for me. There’s no elastic, just a side zip. So the waistline feels quite comfortable and not as “firm” as a waistband would. My waist is 32” and I made a size E ❤️ Fabric: I chose a rayon/linen blend from @matchymatchysewingclub . To accentuate the design lines, I intentionally chose a stripe, but a plaid would also do nicely here. ❤️ Construction/Mods: I omitted the bottom tier and lengthened the middle one. 3-tiered skirts are not my jam, and I’m digging how the top tier reads more like an asymmetrical yoke here. #howerdelskirt @elbe_textiles

• Howerdel • [german below ⬇️] Let me introduce to you Howerdel - the new skirt pattern by @elbe_textiles . I’ve been one of the lucky testers and this one was a breeze . Of course it has gathered tiers, just what I love. The top is fitted and has an invisible sip. It’s considered a midi length skirt but I’m so short that it ended up pretty long 😅. I made View A with asymmetrical tiers. Congratulations to Lauren for this lovely skirt pattern 🎉🤍! Hello #howerdelskirt by @elbe_textiles I tested this lovely pattern by Lauren a few weeks ago. I made a muslin and decided to size down, but Lauren has removed some ease from the waist as well as adding fullness to the tiers and accentuating the curves more. It's such a cute and fun pattern. I did add darts to the back yoke- I always need sway back adjustments, so this is not unusual for me. I used a @merchantandmills linen I've been hoarding for a few years and some bright ricrac for sass. Mumma chicken accessories my own.

I’ve been waiting to share this skirt and it is finally time! I was so happy to help @elbe_textiles test the new #HowerdelSkirt I made a size K in a linen/rayon blend from @madewithharmony and I love the way it fits! My current measurements are Bust: 49 Waist: 44 Hip:54 and I made no fit adjustments to the pattern. #madewithharmony

Coming back from sewing hibernation with the same pattern I made back in November for the only reason that it was right there on top of the table when I returned into my sewing room. I had not planned to stay away from sewing and from Instagram but that is what happened and my sharing and sewing mojo are bursting! Vest: #jpfrejavest by @just_patterns (up to B:57.5; W:49.5; H:60 but they will grade up if needed 🤎) As my previous one I made size 52 at the bust and shoulders grading to size 56 at the hips but gave myself a bit of extra room at the waist. The fabric is a linen/cotton from @minervadotcom that used to be a dress but the fabric was way too heavy for it and it feels so much better on its vest form. Skirt: #howerdelskirt by @elbe_textiles (up to W:50; H:60.2) in beautiful crinkly silk from @oursocialfabric I made a size L at the waist grading to size M at the hips and lengthening the back yoke by 3.5cm at CB blending to nothing at the side seams. I also lengthened the middle tier and omitted the lower one. This skirt is super light weight, fun and incredibly warm. Tee: #tfsfogtee by @wearethefabricstore (up to B:59; W:52;H:63 but they will grade up if needed 🤎) size 22 ant the bust, shoulders and sleeves grading to size 28 at the hips in merino knit from @wearethefabricstore aka the best merino jersey. It was a very pleasant surprise that the first two garments I made this year paired so well together. The longer hem of the vest hides a bit the beautiful yoke and gathers of the skirt but somehow I really like the silhouette and proportions of this outfit 🤎🤎🤎 • Current measurements: B:47; W:46; H:58; 167cm tall #torontosews #canadasews #curvysewing #plussizesewing #plussizeootd #memadeeveryday #imakemyclothes #plussizesewingpatterns #fatsewing #handmadewardrobe #imakemyclothes #mmootd #imnot2d #imperfectsewing

I made this skirt back in the fall when I tested the pattern. I instantly fell in love with the asymmetric and curved lines and the fact that is a pretty original and stylish twist on a basic gathered skirt. I loved the final skirt but there was an issue with the fact that there is only one pattern piece for the front and back yoke and that caused the skirt to sit higher on the back. I thought about rehemming the skirt to visually correct the issue but ultimately I knew that what I needed to do was a full bum adjustment and create different pattern piece for the front and back. I couldn’t find a tutorial to make the adjustment without darts and I wasn’t sure I wanted to add them. The issue was not having enough length to go around my bum so I increased the length at center back by 3.5cm blending to nothing at the side seams and trying to follow the same curve as the original. (Will post a picture on stories) To fixed the gaping at the back created for the lack of darts I decided to stitch 1cm elastic between outer and lining stretching slightly while sewing it with a zigzag stitch. Happy to report that those simple adjustments worked like a charm and improved the fit and the joy! • Skirt: #howerdelskirt by @elbe_textiles (up to W:50; H:60.2) in linen from @wearethefabricstore Size L at the waist grading to M at the hips. Still out here trying to be a skirt girlie ✨ I’ve been eyeing this pattern since it was released, and if we’re being totally honest I only signed up to pattern test a pair of pants for Kevin because @elbe_textiles compensates testers with her other patterns and that was incredibly motivating 🤗 Pattern: #HowerdelSkirt by #elbe_textiles in view A size B (corresponding to my current 26.5” waist and 36.5” hip measurement) Fabric: Thrifted 100% cotton duvet cover from savers! Truly such an amazing find, and this is from a KING size duvet, meaning there’s so much more where it comes from! This pattern was super straight forward and came together in about three hours. Gathering the two tiers took a LONG time, and I kept trying to get them evenly dispersed but that just wasn’t in the cards for me. @thecrookedhem made a version in which she omitted the bottom tier and lengthened the middle tier, and I really like the look! So, I may try that out with my next version, but in the meantime, I’ll be twirling around in my three-tier skirt as I think you’re required to do in such a garment 💃 #elbetextiles #saversthrift #thriftflip #sewing #handmade #handmadewardrobe #handmadecloset #handmadeskirt #skirtgirlie #sewsewsew

↞highlighting one of my favorite local brands, @mohalaeyewear ❤️ these are the Malia frames in spiced tea that reminds me of a pair from gentle monster (and cloy iykyk), but more affordable, doesn’t slip down my low nose bridge or hit my eyelashes/cheeks. also peep the monogrammed case option 👀 ✨ the added bonus is supporting a locally, AAPI, women run business that promotes diversity in a largely dominated Eurocentric market and gives back to the community🫶 for a discount, use my code “RUMER” which is an affiliate code but i’d still be singing their praises because i love this brand so much. ↠ ootd: #psmila top by @petitestitchery in knit fabric from @kaulumaika #howerdelskirt by @elbe_textiles in a crisp khaki cotton from @fab_scrap double swirl slides in sand from @portlandleather earrings from @pepperandpinkco #memadeeveryday #memadewardrobe #sewistsofinstagram

I hit a bit of a sewing slump recently, and decided to do something I don’t do very often anymore. I signed on to test not one but two sewing patterns. I was hoping it would give me the motivation and focus to get something sewn. Good news is, it totally worked, and I’m feeling excited about all the things I hope to make this winter instead of overwhelmed (well, still a little of that 🙃 but in a good way😂) The first of the two patterns is out today, The Howerdel Skirt by @elbe_textiles I loved this tiered skirt the second I saw it. It’s a simple three tier, with a twist. The panels have these fun gathered curves, and there is an invisible zip to keep it clean. (There is also an additional view with more traditional straight tiers) I usually opt for elastic waist patterns, but I love the clean lines on this one and think it looks slightly more dressy. I sewed the size C for my 28” waist. Sewn in Linen Rayon Noil in “Natural” from the shop, I love how swishy this fabric is in this style! Surprise! It's also a dress! I like my skirts to sit on my natural waist and this one is a bit wider so I added straps to wear it as a dress, I can easily tuck them in if I want to wear it as a skirt. Swipe to see the lining! I loved the idea that the outside and inside would be opposite (negative 🎞) of each other. Both fabrics are by @m_o_l_l_y_m_o_l_l_y . And the label is by @insidevoiceslabels . This is the only black and white label I have (I wanted to stay in the theme). Trans-tasman baby I tell you! Happy release day #HowerdelSkirt ! If you have been here for a while, you know that this is an @elbe_textiles super-fan account (I would compete with @naomi.joy.creates for number 1 fan but I don't stand a chance 😘). I have been wanting a pattern with curvy tiers for a while and when Lauren needed testers I jumped! The curves have been a bit accentuated in the last version, which I LOVE and can see another one in my near future. Mods: I removed 4" from the middle tier and added 1" to the bottom one Fabric is the amazing @m_o_l_l_y_m_o_l_l_y and shoes are from @radicalyes which is also influenced by Shelley 😁. Also you can't see but I am wearing #StevieKnickers @paper_theory You could say that it's a trans-tasmanian-baby outfit 💕 Grab yours now and if you make it, tag me so I can see it! . #sewist #SewingPatterns #sewing #SewSewSew #SewistsOfInstagram #SewingProject #MillenialSewing #HandmadeWardrobe #Handmade #AsianSewist #AsiansWhoSew #POCWhoSews #AucklandSews #NZSews #IMadeThis #IMakeMyOwnClothes #ISewMyOwnClothes #SewQueer #SewNonBinary #b39w35h45 #SewnShownSeated
