Something different ✨ After making a couple patterns on repeat it definitely felt good to sew something new! The new Solberg Jacket from @elbe_textiles was a lot of fun to sew. Turns out sometimes it’s nice when there’s no buttons/collars/cuffs/zippers. Who knew. It’s a fairly simple sew but with enough details to keep it interesting. I ended up hand sewing the facing and hems to make it feel a little bit fancier. This pattern is drafted for a taller human than I am and I meant to make adjustments before I started sewing but… I forgot. I think the size works here, but I’d like to play around with a slightly more fitted look if I try it again.

This jacket taught me to accept that handmade things are never going to be perfect- and there is beauty in that! I’ve spent the past two months making the @elbe_textiles #solbergjacket. I hand-dyed the heavy-weight linen, stitched the front design using a traditional Japanese embroidery method called Sashiko, and bias-bound the seams inside. The final step was to give it one last wash; something I had already done twice in the process of making it. Well…the washing machine completely ate it up. There were holes and rips everywhere. After a brief pity party, I used another technique, called visible mending, to make the damage look intentional instead of trying to hide it. Winter sewing is underway! This is the #solbergjacket from @elbe_textiles in size A. The jacket is unlined (and I only have white overlocking thread right now 🙃) so I decided to bind the seams before sewing them flat - Lauren has a reel on her IG showing how to do this along the back seam with a pleat. The layers of fabric did get a bit thick but I was able to get it reasonably smooth by grading the seam allowances and pressing every seam and hem before and after sewing. I also used the selvage along the outside edge of the facing. Fabric is a chocolate brown wool I picked up at a fabric market in April. Floral bias binding is @libertyfabrics I bought years ago. I’ve once again had the privilege and pleasure of pattern testing for @elbe_textiles This go ‘round was for the #SolbergJacket. This is a unisex piece with two views. The floral piece is view A, the Ankara mix is view B. The fact that the front drapes the same over a sleek chest as it does over an I cup is simply amazing! And there are little details like the back pleat and topstitching that take it from “cool jacket” to “I think I’m going to make five of these.” This is a fun garment to sew and it goes well with anything! Say hello to my new pattern - the Solberg Jacket. I like this one. I like all of them... but I *like* like this one. I hope you will too. It's been drafted on my menswear block (lower hip to waist ratio and a flat chest) but this will suit a whole range of bodies without too much, if any, alterations as it's designed to be an easy fit. Had the privilege of pattern-testing the #solbergjacket! This came together smoothly, a process made all the more enjoyable by little unique details like the business-y back pleats and the front construction. Really love the view B asymmetrical front but opted for view A as I wanted to wear this open. Here’s the same piece on me (oversized) and on Mr wonky (for whom this would have been 1 size down by chest measurement - more fitted than drafted for but wearable). I’ve thrown this over at work just about every day since its creation. Happy to have a layering piece that is just the right amount of cozy for tropical weather aircon. It’s autumn! My favourite time of year inspired me to sew up another light jacket, @elbe_textiles #solbergjacket 🍁 It’s a relatively quick sew. I cut it out yesterday and the sewing only took 2.5 hours. Just in time to wear it to my hair appointment! Even have time for a few quick Insta snaps! It’s a mens pattern so the body is a bit long for me. I shortened everything by 2.5”. I also interfaced the facing. I love the pleats at the back, such cool details! The fabric is Lara linen in papaya from @potter_and_co_australia . I matched it with In the Folds #collinstop today. It’ll work very well with my knitted garments when the weather gets cold. New pattern alert! ✨ Elbe Textiles has just released the Solberg Jacket. I really enjoyed sewing this, details like back pleats and understitching give it a crisp and polished feel, but the jacket is still casual enough for lounging at home. I used a cotton drill fabric from @spotlightstores and made view A in size E. The bodice is lengthened 4cm and the sleeves adjusted to be full length. Not planned but Mr Leopard Street's entire outfit here is designed by Lauren 🙂. Shorts are his oldest and most loved pair of #triggshorts in olive linen from @wearethefabricstore. This is one of the patterns I've been working on. I've finished drafting and sampling and onto the instructions but I'm in a slight pickle with the name. I originally went with Solberg Robe (named after Einar Solberg of Leprous) but 'robe' doesn't seem quite right. Robe feels more post-shower lounging. And it's not really a jacket, considering it's lack of jackety function. It's a layering piece for when you want to be warmer but cooler all at once 😎 What's a garment name that encapsulates that!? I'm still open to using robe if enough of you tell me to. Because I am a people pleaser. Edit: I should've noted there's a plainer view without the wrap part. So while I am loving all the Solberg Wrap suggestions, it wouldn't work with the extra view!! #solbergjacket
