PRETTY IN PINK 🌸 LEILA SHIRT This is my second Leila shirt and boy do I love it. I used a lovely pink cotton from @wovenstoriestextiles and it pairs beautifully with this pattern - it's light, soft, breezy and oh so pretty 😍. Like last time I made a 4 as the fit is oversized. This time I shortened it by 5cm and took that length out of the top part, and may have snuck a little extra off the bottom with a bigger hem turn. Sleeves also were shortened by 5cm. I've been lurking for a long while and decided to join in with #memademay2023 👋 Here's my @modern_sewing_co #msleilashirt in the most joyful cotton from @leonsfabrics_mcr I made a size 10, though my measurements would put me at a 14/16. It is plenty oversized, would even be tempted to make an 8 next time. Worn with @stylearc #sabarrywovenpant in cotton canvas. Made a size 14 but tinkered with the waist to get rid of the dreaded folds at the crotch. I took it in about 3 inches. I find the side seams and pockets sit very far forward. Is this due to my tinkering or part of the pattern? Advice welcome!

The @modern_sewing_co #msleilashirt is a perfect cover up for a walk along the beach. Especially if made in a gorgeous lightweight floaty linen like this one from @fabricgodmother . The shirt has lovely details like the extra long sleeves - perfect for rolling up - and a cute gathered back. This is the most involved make I sewed for this holiday but I took my time and used the Modern Sewer online overshirt course to remind me how to to the cuffs and placket. I think I must be waving my arms about from the excitement of wearing 2 new things. Or perhaps it was that I was off to Eastbourne. Anyway: @modern_sewing_co #leilashirt lengthened dramatically and no cuffs or buttons. I added hand warmer pockets. I really like the way this pattern has a flat collar band and is gathered at the back but not the front. Wafting around Greece in the #msleilashirt and #msworkertrousers 🇬🇷☀️ This Leila shirt is made from a super fine, lightweight cotton which is so lovely to wear in the heat. I love the look of the sheer fabric doubled up around the neck facing as it makes this simple curve pop a bit more. It works perfectly over a bikini, especially just after a swim! The shorts are the Worker Trousers (minus most of the legs) in a cream hand weave which is similar to a thick but very soft denim. I made these a few years ago and they’re my most trusty summer shorts! 🤸🏼‍♂️🍋🍻

Back again for #memademay2023 with another #msleilashirt This was the first version I made after loving the blue gingham version on the pattern photos. I did not realise the collar and button placket were separate - such good pattern matching from @modern_sewing_co on that sample! - so I added the placket to the bodice pieces and tweaked the collar to have a facing and topstitching. It sits a little higher than intended but not annoyingly so. Also wearing my #msworkertrousers made in 2022 and matching #paolaworkwearjacket made in 2021 for Hilary pant suit vibes. Not mad about it

#msleilashirt #modernsewingcompany Done. Finally. The pattern company needs more tutorials and better illustrations/instructions. Go at least a size down from what size the measurements tell you. It's very roomy.

#hotoffthemachine , a new #msleilashirt by @modern_sewing_co in an @atelierbrunette cotton gauze. (Purchased from @metermeterdk). . I made a size 18 based on my measurements, but I wish I'd sized down. Unfortunately, I have the size range that bottoms out at 18, so that's not actually an option 🤦‍♀️ . I was drawn to the back gather detail on this shirt, and the grandpa collar, but I'm a little over/under-whelmed by how oversized it is. And with the very dropped shoulder, the sleeve head also seems a bit too curved-- you can see the extra volume at the shoulder seam in some of the pictures. But the biggest problem for my body is the sleeve length. Comically long, and I don't have short arms. I don't really know how to test for sleeve length without toiling when there is a dropped shoulder. I would remove about 3 inches. For this make, I'm just turning up the sleeves one turn, to make them usable. . [Edit: I now see in the product photos that the models also have the cuffs turned up. So I guess this is how it's designed to be worn. Whoops!!] . I'm on the fence about it right now-- but sometimes less than perfect makes become surprisingly useful and beloved with time.
